00:00A tragic incident, and again from Kerala port, a merchant vessel has caught fire.
00:05Shocking visuals on your screens coming up.
00:07This is, we are told that Coast Guard ship is headed for firefighting as well.
00:12This is a merchant vessel.
00:14This is the Virangam port in Kerala that has clearly caught fire.
00:18We're not yet aware about the kind of cargo, the packages that are there, the luggage on the vessel.
00:25We'll try and get more details on that, but this is disturbing, remember.
00:28This is as much about how, what happened about a few days ago.
00:32Shibimul K.G. will be joining me for the latest on that.
00:36Shibimul, go ahead, because barely a few days ago we were discussing about the containers of the seashore
00:42and how possibly that could impact the sea life, and now this happens.
00:46What are you picking up about this detail?
00:49Well, Pooja, what we know is this is a cargo ship that was traveling from Colombo,
00:54that departed from Colombo on 7 June, and it was traveling to Mumbai with estimated arrival on 10 June.
01:01It has caught fire.
01:03What we know is it's a Singapore-plugged container ship,
01:06and also there were more than 40 people inside the containers, what we know, inside the ship.
01:11And out of the containers, around 40, in the initial information, 40 is likely to have fallen into the sea.
01:19But as of now, the state, you know, the priority here as far as Coast Guard and Indian Navy is concerned
01:24is to rescue the people on board the ship, because there are still many people, you know,
01:31that needs to be rescued from the ship.
01:33So that is the first priority.
01:35As of now, the State Disaster Management Authority is informed that there's nothing to be concerned
01:39as far as the cargo is concerned.
01:41The containers that are falling into the sea is concerned, because, like you pointed out,
01:46a few weeks ago, we had the coastal line in Kerala was put on high alert
01:50after a Liberian container vessel fully sank off the Kuchik coast.
01:54So we're still recovering from it.
01:56So that's when this incident has taken place.
01:58It has caught fire off the coast of Bapur and Kohikor.
02:01So pretty, another prominent port in Kerala, as far as Kerala is concerned.
02:05But as of now, there are around more than 40 people on board the ship,
02:09and rescuing them is the priority.
02:11Keep tracking all the latest developments coming in from Kerala port.
