00:00Hello Sonia, welcome to INS. Congratulations.
00:04We've been released, Dhafshay Kumar, several other stars of the film industry.
00:07What's the mind's face like?
00:11Very happy, nervous, excited, thrilled, everything together.
00:17Just very happy and excited.
00:19It's very good, it's positive.
00:23I'm scared too.
00:25That's the feeling you get from the exam.
00:30And Houseful Five has come like a breath of fresh air for TV, in the cinema.
00:35In the cinema particularly, the film has ensured everyone in the industry,
00:42all the artists from top of the world.
00:45Working in a tentpole like Houseful Five, how does it shape up an artist for a long time?
00:51I think it's a brilliant platform and opportunity for a newcomer like me for sure,
00:55because it's an ensemble cast.
00:58Almost 14, 15 main lead actors.
01:01And you get to share the screen space with the stalwarts of the industry,
01:06where you have only seen them witness the performances and everything.
01:11And you get to share the screen space and you're performing with them now.
01:16So, I don't think anything can get better than this for any newcomer or for any actor,
01:22at any given point of time.
01:24Because if there's nothing else, you can learn and evolve.
01:28And I think it's a brilliant position to be in.
01:33So, very very feeling blessed and privileged to be part of such a big franchisee.
01:40And you share a superstar direction from our audience.
01:43You see it all.
01:44He's done all for the time in his career.
01:46He is known for his discipline and the lack of what works in the market.
01:50He's one of the actors who has the best business sense in cinema.
01:54Working with him, jamming with him,
01:57how did it help you evolve your craft as an artist and also in the commerciality of the industry?
02:02Commercial?
02:03Yeah.
02:04This is my first film.
02:06So, like a legit first big film.
02:08So, commercials come definitely.
02:10They're very important but they do come later.
02:12But having said that,
02:14I have worked with Akshay sir previously in a controversial Goodka ad,
02:18that Vimal ad.
02:20But I think it's the legit time spent on like a set.
02:26And to learn from him, to work with him is a different space altogether.
02:31And not just Akshay said the entire unit, you know.
02:34Yes, he's very very disciplined.
02:36He's very punctual.
02:38And the way he becomes a different person altogether in front of the camera
02:42is something you have to learn from him.
02:44You know, he's just so quick with his transition.
02:47It shows that how brilliant he is with his craft and his work.
02:52Toh baut maza hai hon ke saath kaam karke.
02:55Or hamesha se unhne kaha hai ki,
02:57bas karte roo kuch chota bada kaam nahi hota.
02:59Kaam kaam hota hai.
03:00That's what he's always told me.
03:02So, I'm still learning.
03:04This is my, like a small baby step in a bigger way.
03:08I've been manifesting.
03:10I've been asking for something really, really great coming my way.
03:14So, be it the household five.
03:16And studied at the National School of Drama.
03:20And also I've done a workshop at the Lee Strasberg Institute.
03:23Please correct me if I'm missing.
03:25Yeah, no.
03:26I had just done a small workshop at NSD,
03:28which was like kind of an outsourced thing.
03:30But I studied at Lee Strasberg Theatre in Los Angeles.
03:33And I did an acting course at NYFA, Los Angeles.
03:38So, when you transition from,
03:40when you transition between different mediums,
03:42stage and then cinema.
03:44In what ways really cares about TV?
03:48Honestly, I'm yet to discover and learn everyday as and when I face the camera and I go.
03:56But having said that, I think theatre is a different form than camera.
04:00When you perform in theatre.
04:02In whatever small experience I've received and performed in theatre and camera.
04:09Is that one on one is there with the camera thing.
04:13But theatre mein aapko you have to reach till the last person sitting on the seat.
04:17So, you have to be a little more exaggerated version of every emotion.
04:21How you perform and of the character.
04:23So, it's both a different mediums.
04:25Emotion is the same.
04:26But it's just a different way.
04:29But yeah, definitely.
04:30And this is a house full.
04:32It's a very different film altogether.
04:34It's not that it's very high on different form of emotions and everything.
04:39The constant emotion is happiness.
04:41Fun element.
04:43So, which is like day to day.
04:45But yeah, more to come.
04:47As in when I do more work.
04:50Because you are better at work.
04:53Acting.
04:54I mean, you don't do it.
04:55You don't do it.
04:56You don't do it.
04:57You don't do it.
04:58So, the more you perform, the better you get.
05:00And there's no end to it.
05:02So, yeah.
05:03Both are different platforms.
05:04But any which way you learn.
05:06And it's said that cinema is the toughest genre.
05:09Oh, yes.
05:10Yes, yes.
05:11There are genres you can manipulate a scene using lights.
05:14Correct.
05:15Like the camera is placed and now everything is on your shoulders.
05:18Yes.
05:19Working in household business, which is essentially one of the biggest comedy franchises of India.
05:23Yeah.
05:24What did it teach you as an artist?
05:26And what was your biggest takeaway?
05:29A biggest takeaway is don't take yourself too seriously.
05:32Everything is very good.
05:34Everybody was so happy on the sets and the like when we were shooting that it never felt like
05:40that I'm working, working per se.
05:42It felt like so at home.
05:44We were on a picnic.
05:45We were on a picnic.
05:46We were on a picnic.
05:47We were on a picnic.
05:48I already was made to feel that I'm already a superstar.
05:53I have arrived.
05:54I am there already.
05:55I'm part of the industry very much.
05:57So, all my co-actors, my producers, my director, all the technicians were so nice and warm to me.
06:05I didn't feel like I'm the newest one on the block and I'm not part of the industry.
06:14So, that's a great thing.
06:15That's a great thing.
06:16Look how good people are.
06:17There are so many whims and fancies, notions and things about the industry.
06:24But it defies all of them very unlikely of what we hear outside.
06:29And the takeaway is that, don't go seriously and go with the flow and if it's written for you, it will come to you.
06:40I'm a classic example of it.
06:43Film has actors schools of comedy or sense of humorism.
06:47On one hand, Tej Deshko, on the other hand, Raksha Kumar.
06:50Yes.
06:51The rest of the comedy time is in the film industry.
06:54Yeah.
06:55Did any of their craft rub up on you as artists in terms of comedy?
06:59No.
07:00Actually, they perform so well that you're having a conversation with them.
07:06So, like I said, the transition, Beat, Akshay sir, Beat, Ritesh sir, everybody.
07:12It's so, so phenomenal and organic.
07:15Organic is the right word.
07:17It's seamless.
07:18It's effortless.
07:19And I've said that it was a very fun film.
07:22I mean.
07:23So, it was a fun film.
07:26It's a real film.
07:29We're seeing it, experience it.
07:31It's so much fun with you.
07:33What has the experience been like?
07:35How do you define him as a director?
07:37Is he a very heartasmister?
07:38Ah, see, I'm sure it was very tough for him to handle such great actors.
07:44Everybody together on the same time.
07:47Yeah.
07:48Same timeline.
07:49So, it's been different.
07:51But he's very good.
07:53And he's been a stronger, I would say,
07:55I would say a pillar to help me shape you know as a character my Lucy's character because it
08:03wasn't easy to perform in front of such good actors you know so at times I would just get
08:09nervous or dar lagta hai wo jo butterflies in stomach ote hai wo bhi tha ki ap exam likhne
08:15jare ho so yeah I mean I remember my intro shot we were rehearsing I am Fardeen sir and other
08:24actors and I were rehearsing he didn't realize this we were sitting and he just usme hai that I
08:30sit when you see the film I sit on the chair he just happened to pull the chair and I was sitting
08:36and I fell before my mahoor had shot and I was in splits I turned red and almost this and it was
08:44so funny and then he came running and was like are you okay okay get back to work he didn't
08:48he was exactly like that I I will never forget that I was so embarrassed the majeep sa ho
08:59gaya tha kyunki sab log te vaha par but yeah but it started on that note but I would say
09:05ki he's really good with whatever he's done humko sabko tape karge raka hua tha pikni ka mall
09:11he's the captain of the ship so definitely you know it was a laughter ride for us
09:21okay and we almost saturday is over this sunday the first test is still yet to be completed
09:27is your headspace like very chittery at the moment oh now at the moment no but it was I
09:36didn't sleep the whole night subha utke mandir gai puja ki apna dipak lagaya wo jo ek general
09:44humara hota hai subha prayers ki aur bola ki bas kuch achau then numbers aane lage so I was happy
09:50so hopefully we end up giving like great numbers because it's an ensemble Akshay sir everybody great
10:00production house great storyline all the collective great artists together so hopefully we will
10:06excel excel and Hindi cinema in particular dramatically in the last seven eight ten years
10:13huh earlier while the outsiders in the industry they were not breaking in as much as they are currently
10:19mm-hmm that has changed for the good in our cinema as a fresh artist on the block what expectations do
10:26you have from the industry and the ones for the show see my expectations are like any other actor that
10:31I should flourish and become a superstar famous everything right from the time I thought ki
10:37mujhe actor benna hai toh singing or dancing hum hindu sani ke underna koot koot ke bhari hui hai because we are
10:42born and raised like that we are rich in culture we are rich in music we are rich in we are like larger
10:49than life people we Indians are larger than life people toh hum ko naach gaana sab pasand hai toh wohi
10:55hamisha se tha toh I always wanted to be loved I always wanted to be famous I always wanted to be in
11:01front of the screen aur mujhe hamisha se wo main sochthi thi ki loog dusre cheheron mein ya kisi dusre
11:08profession mein kaise woh zindagi jeet hai toh mujhe hamisha se tha ki main is ki life mein jaanke dekho ki kya hai what it takes to live
11:15a certain person or a character or a life toh I think ye ek woh medium hai toh express yourself to get
11:23into that zone and mein joot nahi bolongi above all I just wanted to be super famous and a very big star
11:30I always thought of it you know ek hota hai ki bachman say you are so thrilled to be seeing all the big stars
11:35on the screen aur aapko screen pe aana hota hai apko bhi famous hona hota hai toh wohi feeling thi it started
11:41with that and eventually when I was growing started learning dance I'm a trained vocalist classical
11:48vocalist toh fir uske pehmane badal gay phir samajh me hai ki craft kya hota hai acting kya hoti hai
11:54aapko karna kya hota hai deliver kya karna hota hai toh ye it's exactly like jab aap bachpan
11:59bachpan bachko badao ke kya banna hai toh bacha ho lega doctor banna hai engineer banna hai toh tab toh bada
12:04fancy lagta hai ki doctor engineer naam kya a gay you know a white coat pannao ke doctor I am a doctor too
12:09iske liye mein bol pa rhi ho ho feeling phir aapko pata chalte ki haa exam dhena hota hai
12:14padhai karna hoti hai chaar sal ye karna hota hai phir internship karna hota hai phir patient
12:18karna hota hai same for acting toh mujhe lagta hai craft janna zhururi hai aur baqi
12:24karte karte ap seekte ho toh wohi meera eek tha hamesha se and god is so so so kind I feel so amazing and
12:32privilege ki ham is baray mein aaj baat kar rahe hai baat ke aur film release hoi hai house full five
12:38and continuing that further you know I want to see that I like you already
12:44would you like to diversify other mediums of cinema let's say a parallel cinema or anything beyond the
12:50realm of course yes cinema cinema work is work you know be it any medium any platform and any part of
12:56the world any language language and all this is not a barrier for uh work and cinema for your craft
13:02for your art it's an art form so definitely I would love to do various languages various uh different
13:10art forms and you know like you said different platforms I would love to do all of that and last
13:17two questions first of which you know you said that as well yeah as an artist on a very basic level
13:23what is it that inspires what is it that ignites your creative process in day-to-day life
13:29I think I get inspired by anything and everything around me because there's so much around us
13:36hum unko choti choti cheezo ko jeena bhol gaya in today's world of digitization today's world of
13:44fast fast life I would say I think just sense of wonder has sense of discovery has sense of living
13:51life ever peachy choti gaya hai thoda to shayad ye ek wo zariyaa ban gaya hai he bolne ke liye apne
13:58aapke saath rehenne ke liye ki oh I want to be this so I think I get inspired by everything around me
14:04matlab I get inspired by you also it's not just someone who's like you are also an achiever in your
14:10parameters so is everyone so joe maine hai achieving ke or inspiration ke sabke alag hai to but aisa
14:19kuch merko koi bhot fancy answer yaad nahi a raha yaa maine se kuch socha nahi ki maa
14:23apko bol doongi ki wo ek headline bane but mujhe lagta hai ki you get inspired by anything and everything
14:29kisi ki success story sunke bhot acha lagta hai kisi ki emotional quotient life ki struggle sunke
14:35aapko acha lagta apko lagta yaar isne achieve kiya yaa kisi ka bhot acha saf dil hona bhi
14:39aapko inspire karta hai so I am that person mujhe choti cheezo mein sukun milta hai so
14:45woh bhi mujhe inspire karta hai ki yaar dekho kitni sachai ye iske man mein he or she is such an
14:51honest person in today's time you have to be truthful to yourself and last question since you mentioned
14:56that you know haach na hai nahi shush karna bhol hai now observation is the basic currency for any actor
15:03the more you observe the more observant you are the better your craft will become at the end of the day
15:08in routine life you know when you're simply imbibing from your surroundings observing things
15:13of their hold in real time there's also a duality which comes you know the actor who is also at work
15:19and the human being is also at work yeah what do you want to say about that duality
15:23duality as a person and as a professional I think it's almost pretty much the same when you are at
15:32work you're working or jab aap ghar pe ho toh ghar pe ho matlab at least for me I am not someone who
15:37will switch my personality mein jasi ghar pe ho mein waisi bahar bhi ho toh bas haa ye ki kaam ke prati
15:45aapka dedication hai toh aap kaam ke jaga pe kaam kar kea ho hai ghar ki jaga pe aap chill kar rho
15:49but haa kaam demag me rehta hi rehta yaar it goes without saying I don't know about others because
15:54I think of work quite a lot and abhi mahi ho stage mein ho life ke ki jaha pe
15:59me re liye work bohat important hai aapne aapko prove karna hai mami papa ko bhi khush karna hai
16:05aapne aapko bhi khush karna hai you know itne saal ho se aap mehnat kar rho
16:08ho phir woi culmination ho ta hai so aap muha lagta hai ki dono chise zaroori hai dono ka balance hona
16:15zaroori hai personal life and professional life and they are directly proportional to each other
16:20aisa nhi ho sakta ki aapke professional life fantastic hai aur personal life achi nhi hai toh
16:25aapko sukoon hi nhi milega and vice versa toh aapke paas aapne loog bhi honne chahi hai
16:31us safalta ko share karne ke liye so aur rahi baat changing personality is professional
16:38yehi aapka suwaal hai na if I am right right toh muha lagta hai ki atleast I am not that
16:44versa jase se bhoat loog mehne sunha hai bholta hai I am different as a person at work place
16:48aur phir mera switch hota hai mera asa kuch nai hai koji switch nai hai koji button nai hai
16:53mein jo hoon, mein hoon kaam pe bhi aasi hoon, ghar pe bhi aasi hoon, I am always fun, I am always laughing
16:58muha lagta hai when you love what you're doing then it's not work then you're living your life
17:17you know I am very happy when you calling me all this because I think it's all people the audience
17:23you all guys who have loved me so much for this and I think everybody was good in the song everybody's
17:30performed very well but wo jo ek reckoning value hai, wo jo ek relatability ho gai, wo jo logon
17:37ne dekh liya pata nii what achha lagra hai, I just feel amazing I feel good I feel blessed
17:44achha lagra hai, koji bolte hai lal pari saundar hai, so it's good
17:49On the contrary, I have to wear white
17:51It's akin to what happened at the time when Malaika made a blast in the industry with Burundi
17:58Oh wow, I mean they are phenomenal performers
18:01Both the people you mentioned, they are my seniors
18:03So that will be a big deal
18:05But I think it's just the beginning
18:08It's already started
18:10I hope you can eat it without thinking of calories
18:13I hope I get to perform more, I get to work more
18:17And I love much more
18:19And I love much more
18:21So please pray for me
18:23And I love your compliment and title
18:25And you want to be a complete package performer
18:27Like how Michael Jackson was singing, acting, dancing
18:29Of course
18:31Of course
18:33My mother loves Madhuri Ma'am
18:35And I am a great ardent fan of Madhuri Ma'am
18:37I love Shridevi Ma'am, Vajanti Mala, Madhubala
18:39So I always look up to them
18:41You know, how great performance is
18:43So I always look up to them
18:45You know, how great performers they were
18:47They were feminine
18:49Yet soft
18:51Yet great actors
18:53And
18:54Ji
19:15Very seamless
19:16Very effortless
19:17Toh
19:18I mean
19:19It depends person to person
19:21And Akshay sir is leading this film
19:23And everyone is
19:24But
19:25To be part of this film
19:27And witnessing
19:28Everyone perform
19:29And learning
19:30All of that
19:31Is such a great feeling
19:32Perfect
19:33So on that note
19:34Thank you so much for that
19:35Thank you
19:36It was a pleasure
19:37Thank you
19:38Thank you
19:39Thank you
19:40Thank you
19:41Thank you
19:42Thank you
