00:00There's been everything from spear making to weaving to a new Indigenous fashion show
00:08at this year's Virunga Festival. The extraordinary red flag dancers from Numbulwa in Arnhem Land
00:14took to the stage here yesterday evening. But this festival is also a place which has
00:20a long tradition as somewhere where powerful statements from Indigenous Australia are made.
00:26And this year was a strong example of that. The Jarwin Traditional Owners who host this festival
00:33unfurled a large banner yesterday which said that they stand with Yundamu and they demand justice
00:40for Kumonjai White, the young Wolperi man who died in police custody in a Coles in Alice Springs.
00:48Jarwin Traditional Owner Lisa Mumbin said she was personally very disappointed in the Northern Territory Police.
00:54She made reference to a number of her family members who have worked with the Northern Territory Police
00:59in the past. And she said that the Jarwin people from up here in the Big Rivers region near Catherine
01:05were standing side by side with their Wolperi cousins further to the south in the Northern Territory.
01:12You know I feel so disappointed. I work with the police. Many times I support the police, our law. And here we are we still got our police force that is supposed to keep us safe. We know they deal with many hard things in life. But what took place just wasn't accepted at all.
01:39So a strong message that was delivered in front of thousands of people here at the Barunga Festival alongside all of the culture, music and art.
01:49So I think that's the only way we can start the battlegrounds on the way.
01:50That's why I believe I chose the first two of us.
01:52Until now I love the of the person who is ever a couple of us.
01:53But when we are still alive, I hope to be a little one of us.
01:54We are really involved in a thought that's the only thing that is a good idea about the others.
01:56Bod Caravan is a really good idea about the brothers and sisters and sisters,
01:59I feel like that I feel like that.
02:00When we come back to this man, I feel like that's what we are, I feel like that and I feel like this is the pain in the United States.
02:01The Third Man was a little bit for a lesson that is a very important thing and I feel like that I feel like that's another one of us..
