00:00The Enchanting Enigma
00:30Light appeared in the sky like a giant kaleidoscope. With my family, we went to see them every night, making bonfires, toasting marshmallows, and telling Viking stories. Those are my most cherished memories. I say memories because those times end abruptly. Your father and I are getting a divorce. I'm in love with my business partner Hans, and we're moving to Argentina. That wasn't even the worst part. Astrid, you're coming with me. You're too young to be without your mother. But mom, I want to stay with Alina. It's not up for discussion. Pack your things right now. Growing up, my little sister Astrid,
00:59idolized me. She was two years younger and thought everything I did was amazing, especially my magic tricks. For my next trick, I'll make a piece of gold appear out of thin air. Wow. Okay, technically, it was a chocolate candy with gold foil, but Astrid still loved it. She was my biggest fan, even when I didn't believe in myself.
01:17So, I was devastated about her leaving, but mom's mind was made up. And just like that, she left me with my dad and my big brother Frederick. Of course I love them, but let's just say they are...
01:27Vikings? Not the word I have in mind. Immature? They spent all their time playing Vikings like children.
01:33Check out the spoils of our last hunting trip, sis.
01:35Frederick, shut up. You bought that from a grocery store. You're not a real Viking.
01:40Tell that to the village we just raised to the ground.
01:42Good one, son! Still, I always had fun with them. They even went to some Viking battle reenactments. It was better than staying home alone.
01:49We still went camping under the northern lights from time to time, but it wasn't the same without Astrid. I wish Astrid was here, too.
01:56Me, too. Fast forward nine years later. I was a senior in high school, and after a lot of training, I finally started getting magic shows.
02:03At first, I'd put on shows in backyards for my classmates' birthday parties. For my first trick, I'm going to pull a rabbit out of my...
02:09Uh-oh. Bunny? Where are you? Oops. Yeah, sometimes things go wrong, but eventually I got really good.
02:14And every time I looked out at the audience, a part of me was hoping to see Astrid sitting there clapping and laughing, like she did when we were kids.
02:20She was still all the way across the world. She grew up to be a full hippie, completely in love with nature.
02:25For the first two years, we talked every single day, even despite the time difference.
02:29Did you watch the last MSA video? Of course! It was amazing!
02:32She is my new favorite main character. At least until tomorrow.
02:35But then we started talking only once a week, then once a month.
02:38Over time, Astrid grew colder and colder, until one day, she snapped.
02:42First, I was pulling this really long handkerchief from my mouth. Suddenly, a kid from the audience grabbed the end.
02:47Before we knew it, we were both rolling up in it, turning into a giant handkerchief burrito on stage, and...
02:52Oh, God! Can you stop talking about that? There are bigger problems in this world. Who cares about stupid magic anyway?
02:59Then, she hung up. Rude.
03:00I tried calling back a million times, but Astrid ghosted me.
03:04Well, she was a teenager, after all. They all have mood swings, right?
03:07But when a few months passed since Astrid had gone radio silent, I started getting worried.
03:11I called my mother and Hans, but neither was helpful.
03:14She can't come to the phone right now. She's playing football.
03:16Isn't it like midnight there? Yeah, I'm so late. Oh, good night.
03:21Oh, that, Elena. Right. Not... Your sister's not home. Bye.
03:25But, with no other choice, I got a plane ticket to pay them a surprise visit.
03:29I only sent Astrid a DM, so she knew I was coming, but again, there was no reply.
03:33Okay, guys, see you when I get back. Try not to burn the house down.
03:36I can't promise that. I'm still saying don't go.
03:39It's okay. Have a safe flight, kiddo.
03:41When I got to the airport, I didn't even have time to step into the security line before I had the shock of a lifetime.
03:47Hey, sis. Excuse me? Who are you? Astrid? You look so different.
03:51What are you doing here? I was just about to go see you.
03:54I know. I read your text when I took back my phone in the middle of my escape.
03:57Luckily, they didn't know how to work Instagram, so they hadn't read it.
04:00Escape? Who was they? What's going on?
04:02I need you to hide me. Nobody can know I'm here. Not even Dad and Frederick.
04:06Before I could ask any of the million questions I had, Astrid took us outside and put us in a cab.
04:10What's with all the secrecy? Did you rob a bank or something?
04:13Of course not, sis. Why would you ever say such a thing?
04:17Astrid kept looking nervously at the taxi driver.
04:19A few minutes later, he dropped us and Astrid pulled me into an alleyway.
04:22Tell me what you know.
04:23About why you're here?
04:24Nothing. I called you non-stop for months. Tell me what's going on before I call Mom.
04:29No, don't call her. Mom changed a lot after we moved.
04:32She does whatever Hans says and he's a monster. Like, a real one.
04:36Months ago, he took my phone and kept me locked in my room.
04:39Are you for real?
04:39I can't tell you more than this for now. The first thing I did after escaping was get a ticket here.
04:44I need you. You're my last hope, sis.
04:46Astrid's story was disturbing. I had to help her. She was my baby sister.
04:50So we went to the mall to give her a makeover. New clothes, new hair color, different lenses.
04:54But I didn't know if her disguise would fool anyone.
04:57You really think Dad's not going to recognize his own daughter?
04:59I don't think so. He hasn't seen me in person since I was seven.
05:02Plus, Dad and Frederick aren't exactly geniuses. No offense.
05:06I was a little offended, but she wasn't wrong. As we got home, I almost fainted from the smell.
05:11There was trash everywhere. Food smeared on the walls.
05:15Alina, you're back. Dad, Alina's back.
05:17Thanks, Thor.
05:19What the heck happened here? I've only been gone a few hours.
05:22I told you we'd be lost without you. Who's your friend?
05:25Dad looked at Astrid in confusion.
05:27You remind me of someone.
05:29Probably some international superstar or model. I get that a lot.
05:32Frederick, Dad, this is...
05:33Ruby, love your place.
05:35Thanks, Ruby. You're a gem.
05:37Good one, Dad.
05:38I rolled my eyes and pulled Astrid upstairs.
05:41Then my phone rang.
05:41It's Mom.
05:42Please, sis. You can't tell her I'm here.
05:44I picked up the phone, and when Mom asked me if I'd heard from Astrid, I denied it.
05:47Your sister is in serious trouble. Please tell me if you hear from her.
05:50Before I could say anything, she snatched the phone from my hand.
05:53Dear customer, your coverage is currently out of range. Please try again later.
05:58I felt weird, but I shrugged it off, and later I talked to my dad about Ruby staying with us for a little while.
06:03Dad was so happy I hadn't gone to Argentina that he agreed right away.
06:07Thanks, Alina. You're a lifesaver.
06:09Hey, I can book some magic show for tomorrow.
06:11You know, I'm a really big hit here, so you can come.
06:13Actually, I wanted to check out this new environmental facility nearby.
06:16Oh, okay. I guess we can do that.
06:18When we got there, it was just like a normal, boring factory site.
06:22But then Astrid broke a window, opened its latch, and started crawling in.
06:26What are you doing? Breaking in?
06:27Hush! Either come with me, or shut up and stay here quietly.
06:30Feeling totally weirded out, I reluctantly followed her as she moved down the corridors.
06:35When she reached the office, she started going through the drawers and took several documents.
06:38Astrid, this is illegal!
06:40Don't worry, I know the owner.
06:41Then she grabbed some spray paint from her bag and started painting the walls.
06:45She wrote something in really big, sloppy letters.
06:48Dentures?
06:48It says destroyers.
06:50Oh, right.
06:50Oh, what?
06:51Just then, sirens wailed in the distance.
06:53Run!
06:54I thought you said you knew the owner.
06:55I do. He's my arch nemesis.
06:57What? I never said we were friends.
06:59We raced out of there as fast as we could and make it home without being caught.
07:02Why would you do something like that?
07:04Will you tell me what's going on?
07:05Can't.
07:06And don't be so uptight, sis. It was just a little fun.
07:08Thankfully, the next few days were less crazy.
07:11Astrid still avoided coming to my magic shows.
07:14She was really busy with her plan.
07:16But every time I asked about it, she would change the subject or run off who knows where.
07:20I decided to find out the truth.
07:21So I started going through her things.
07:23In her purse, there were some huge piles of cash.
07:25There must be a logical explanation.
07:27Maybe she subscribed to MSA and won their amazing weekly prize of $10,000, right?
07:33What? You haven't subscribed yet?
07:34What are you waiting for?
07:35Remember that this only works on YouTube, not on other low-end platforms such as TikTok.
07:41As soon as Astrid came back, I confronted her.
07:44Astrid, where did all this money come from?
07:45Oh, that.
07:46I saved up a bunch from working at a restaurant in Buenos Aires.
07:49Then she started a long and passionate speech about the environment.
07:53I was angry and confused, but also a little proud of her.
07:56She had so much passion and knowledge, she kept talking until we both fell asleep.
08:00In fact, I think she kept talking even in her sleep.
08:02The next morning, my dad was scrambling around the house searching for something.
08:05My savings!
08:07I kept all my cash in random cereal boxes, but it's all gone now!
08:10I told you to open a bank account.
08:12Then it hit me.
08:13Oh no.
08:14Astrid.
08:14I ran upstairs to confront her.
08:16You need to give that money back.
08:17What are you talking about?
08:18You stole dad's money.
08:20What?
08:20No, I didn't.
08:21You're just mad because I didn't go to your stupid magic show.
08:24I'm sorry.
08:24I'm just too busy saving the world.
08:26She stormed out of the room.
08:28She was out of control.
08:29First, she'd almost gotten us arrested, and now she was stealing from our dad?
08:33And even calling my magic stupid after everything I did for her?
08:36I'd had enough.
08:37Knowing she wasn't telling me the whole truth, I called mom right away.
08:40You did the right thing calling me, sweetie.
08:42Astrid needs help before she ends up in prison.
08:44I went to school, but when I came back, all of Astrid's bags were gone.
08:47Then Frederick appeared dragging a wooden boat into the kitchen.
08:50Check it out, sis.
08:51A real Viking boat!
08:53That's a canoe, Frederick.
08:54Frederick?
08:55How did you pay for that boat?
08:57I found a bunch of money and a box of Cocoa Puffs.
08:59So cool!
09:00Oh no.
09:01So it wasn't Astrid who'd taken the money.
09:03What if she was telling the truth all along?
09:05My sister had come home for the first time in years, and I totally betrayed her.
09:09I needed to find her.
09:10I called her over and over, but again, no response.
09:13Then I decided to tell dad the truth.
09:14When he found out that Ruby was Astrid, his face lit up again.
09:18A part of him already knew.
09:19Still, the rest of the news wasn't that good.
09:21Just as we were about to jump into our car to look for Astrid, an all-black car with
09:25a chauffeur pulled into our driveway.
09:27Out of it came Mom, Hans, and a huge bodyguard.
09:30Where is she?
09:30Mom?
09:31We need to find your sister right away.
09:33She stole my money from me, and she vandalized my construction project.
09:38I knew you helped her, Alina.
09:39If you don't help me find her, you are gonna end up in jail, just like your idiot sister.
09:44Don't you dare talk to my child like that!
09:46Dad tackled Hans, but then the huge bodyguard came for us.
09:49Frederick let out a Viking war cry and lunged at him.
09:52Soon, our front yard became the scene of a fierce battle.
09:54But don't panic.
09:55We have a weapon up our sleeve.
09:56My magic.
09:57As dad and Frederick were trying to beat the bodyguard, I decided to catch Hans.
10:01So I grabbed my magician coat and hat, and with a wave, cards flew straight at Hans' face
10:05like little arrows.
10:06Then I threw my rabbit at Hans, who is quite a fierce little biter.
10:10Then I pulled out my handkerchief, magically turned it into a rope, and then managed to
10:13tie up Hans with it.
10:14Just then, help arrived.
10:16But it wasn't the regular police.
10:17It was some kind of secret service, and they immediately arrested Hans and Mom.
10:21Turns out their new factory that Astrid had broken into was located in a zone and used
10:26certain chemicals that could lead to an environmental disaster.
10:29They had falsified the safety tests and all the permits.
10:32When Astrid found out, she tried to go public, and that's why they were keeping her locked
10:35in her room.
10:36After escaping, she came here to collect more evidence before presenting the story to the
10:40authorities, who quickly located the people responsible.
10:43Yep, my mom and Hans.
10:44However, Astrid was still nowhere to be found.
10:46She was gone.
10:47About a year later, I had my biggest magic show yet, and I nailed it.
10:51Towards the end of it, I dedicated the show to Astrid.
10:53My sister is my favorite person in the world, and I miss her.
10:56Wherever she is, I hope she knows how proud of her I am, because she grew up to be this
11:00amazing, brave person.
11:02And after the show, I went to my favorite viewing spot to see the Northern Lights, since
11:05it was the season for them.
11:06I kind of felt closer to Astrid in this spot, too, because if you think about it, maybe
11:10the lights wouldn't be here if she hadn't fought for the environment.
11:13It was like I could hear her there.
11:14Alina!
11:15Alina!
11:15Like, she was right there with me.
11:17Alina, are you deaf?
11:18Can't you hear me?
11:19Wait, Astrid?
11:20I looked around, and she was really there.
11:22I leapt up and hugged her.
11:23Oh my god, you're here!
11:25I decided I should check out that magician that everybody keeps talking about.
11:28I thought magic was so stupid and not real.
11:31I used to think that, till I heard that magic kicked Hans' butt.
11:34Since then, it's my second favorite thing, right after nature.
11:36We both laughed for a second, then we apologized to each other and hugged.
11:40Remember, guys, siblings should stick together.
11:42That is the first rule of families.
11:44I called Dad and Frederick to join us.
11:46So, after all these years, we were finally seeing the Northern Lights as a family again.
11:50And that was the most magical moment ever.
