00:00When asked what Belgium is known for, the common response is beer.

00:06The country counts more than 400 breweries and produces more than 1,600 types of beers.

00:12However, over the past 10 years, beer consumption has been declining.

00:16According to an annual report of the Belgian Brewers Association,

00:21total beer consumption fell by a further 2% in 2024.

00:26The association claims the drop is the result of high costs,

00:29reduced competitiveness, changing drinking habits, and geopolitical instability.

00:35I think there are a lot of measures that incit the citizens to consume more and less alcohol,

00:44in a general way, especially those that have related to the road security.

00:50I've lived in Belgium for 12 years, and I have the impression that the price of beer has doubled.

00:55It's also a question of health, I think, and of the taste.

00:59Because there are a lot of people...

01:01For five years, there was one beer without alcohol, and now there are six.
