00:00In the market presently, Arsenal is not even going for a victory.
00:02That's the truth.
00:04So it's in between Giocares and Cesco.
00:06Is that a sign of a lack of ambition or something?
00:08No, no, no.
00:09No.
00:10About three years ago, when I saw the Arsenal team,
00:13and I felt like they need a goal putter,
00:15they need somebody who can score goals any day, any time,
00:18from any part of the field, as long as it's in front of the box.
00:23And at that time, we never knew who Giocares was.
00:26But we saw Cesco coming in, you know,
00:29from Aubrey-Leipzig, and we saw that this guy can actually do this.
00:32And I advised them that if I were Arsenal,
00:35and Arsenal brought that we're going for this guy.
00:38As at that time, it was even not worth up to this now.
00:41I think it was in Salzburg.
00:43Salzburg, yeah, before he moved to Leipzig.
00:46And I said, this guy should be someone they should be going for.
00:49And I believe that if you were to be in the team for the past two seasons,
00:53Arsenal should have lifted the trophy.
00:55We should cut, you know, Arsenal's up slack.
00:57What do I mean, you know?
00:58After six trophy-less seasons.
01:00The 2024-25 season is now done and dusted.
01:04And we are in the post-season.
01:05Clubs already showing ambition ahead of the 2025-26 season.
01:10And we'll talk about all of that right here on the show today.
01:12My name is Ayam Nishutubo, and this is The Nutmeg on Guardian TV.
01:16The Nutmeg on Guardian TV.
01:18The Nutmeg on Guardian TV.
01:19The Nutmeg on Guardian TV.
01:20The Nutmeg on Guardian TV.
01:21The Nutmeg on Guardian TV.
01:22Yeah, most certainly, of course, the guys are here to join me in this conversation.
01:26And Manchester United, well represented by Ogan.
01:29And, of course, the Gunners from the North London.
01:33And, of course, they are represented by K.
01:35Great to have you guys on the show after the season we've had.
01:38Amazing.
01:38Glad to be here again.
01:39Yeah, thank you very much.
01:40It's good to be back on show, you know.
01:43Well then, today's edition of the show is focused on the ambition that teams are showing in the market.
01:48And maybe we can talk about your size first.
01:51Arsenal, why haven't you made a signing?
01:53Well, it looks like you're trying to put me on a knife edge or something.
01:58I know it's quite early, but you can see there's the first phase of the transfer window between the 1st of June to the 10th.
02:06Yeah, like you said, I think it's still quite early.
02:08But at the same time, we're seeing clubs already, you know, making signings and all that.
02:12But from my own point of view, I feel, alas, it's not really about the signings per se or how you get them.
02:18It's about the effectiveness.
02:20We could see what Chelsea were doing, you know, past season.
02:23They were signing 6-7 players, but alas, they couldn't even achieve anything until recently.
02:28Really?
02:29But they won the conference league.
02:30No.
02:31Until the conference league.
02:32But what I'm trying to say, in essence, is that it's not about how fast you were in signing.
02:35It's about the effectiveness of this player we are bringing in.
02:38What we need is a striker.
02:41And not just any other striker, striker that can give us numbers.
02:44So you don't just expect that they just go on for any other person and all that.
02:48So this is the market is just opening.
02:49And I think, you know, as much as possible, it should be the time.
02:53Yeah, but I feel that your signings is not just the only striker you're doing.
02:58Of course.
02:59Because you have other positions.
03:00Yeah.
03:01You need a backup plan for Sakai.
03:03Sure, sure.
03:04You need a starter for the right player.
03:06And even Odegaard.
03:07Even Odegaard.
03:08Even Odegaard, you understand.
03:09Even your defense.
03:10Because for the past two seasons, and I remember two seasons ago, Saliba went on injury and that
03:14was the end of Asna's campaign.
03:16Yeah.
03:17And last season, too, Gabriel had the same thing.
03:19And Kirill could not fit into the shoes and many more of that.
03:23I want to disagree with that.
03:24You know, this is not to take it away from anyone.
03:26But when you look at what Kirill did coming in for Gabriel, for me, he did absolutely well.
03:33It's not so easy.
03:34He's not been playing consistently and then coming in in some of those critical matches against Real Madrid.
03:40Fantastic performance.
03:41You know what, guys?
03:42Let's take it down this route.
03:44Both sides now.
03:45Manchester United and Arsenal.
03:47Oh, goodness me.
03:48They need a striker.
03:50Both teams.
03:51And now there are two strikers available on the market that, of course, certainly the big clubs in Europe are looking at.
03:57Victor Gagares and then Victor Osman.
04:01Who would you rather have in both?
04:03Well, that was a tight one.
04:05If I were to be the technical director for Arsenal, definitely, you know, I would be looking at Victor Gagares.
04:12Not because of just the numbers, but I've seen the guy play and I've seen the kinds of goals he scored.
04:19I'm not taking away from Osimei.
04:21He's my guy.
04:21I love him any day, any time.
04:23But then I feel somebody best suited to Arsenal.
04:27I feel Gagares will just be the guy for us.
04:29But that's my opinion.
04:30But the funny thing is that in the market presently, Arsenal is not even going for a victory.
04:34Going for a victory.
04:35That's the truth.
04:36So it's in between Gagares and Cesco.
04:38But is that a sign of a lack of ambition?
04:40No, no, no, no.
04:43I said this about three years ago when I saw the Arsenal team and I felt like they need
04:48a goal putter.
04:49They need somebody who can score goals any day, any time from any part of the field as
04:55long as it's in front of the box.
04:57And at that time we never knew who Gagares was.
04:59Oh, yeah.
05:00But we saw Cesco coming in, you know, from RB Leipzig and we saw that this guy can actually
05:06do this.
05:07And I advised then that if I were in Arsenal and Arsenal bought that we're going for this
05:11guy.
05:12And I said this guy should be someone they should be going for and I believe that if
05:24you were to be in the team for the past two seasons, Arsenal should have lifted the trophy
05:29during those times because it's a goal putter.
05:31And I'll still say the same thing for now too.
05:34Yeah.
05:35I'll still say the same thing that right now is in between Gagares or Cesco and I would
05:40tell them that they can go for any of them, but they will be suiting best.
05:45You know what guys, because we don't have a lot of time.
05:48All right.
05:49Let's look at the wider side of things.
05:51Liverpool, Man City also showing the ambition.
05:54I personally feel that the league is always one in this period because you see the big boys
05:59going for the best players.
06:01Man City already closing in on Tijani Ranginas.
06:04And also Liverpool, Florian Vest, they're following him.
06:07Trent Alexander, Arnold left and then, you know, Jeremy Frimpong.
06:11On the same day that Arnold left, Frimpong was announced.
06:14Manchester United too are here and there, got Brian Mbobo.
06:18They are planning to get Brian Mbobo, the Cameroonian forward.
06:21And then Matheus Conia has been announced.
06:24But if you're looking at how these things are moving, which teams, with the
06:29the current pace now in the market, which teams do you think will be in the ascendance
06:33when the season starts?
06:34Well, like Karadeh said earlier, it is too early for us to determine who does well or
06:42who do not do well.
06:43It depends on how these players are able to get into the team.
06:47Integration, yeah.
06:48Integration into the team and how they are able to do well.
06:51But I know definitely that all these clubs, they've gone for these players because they
06:54believe that these players can actually suit it into the team.
06:57And not just going to buy for panic safe or the likes.
07:01And that is where I have issues with Arsenal right now.
07:04Ah, they're not seeing anything.
07:06They are too...
07:07It is too early.
07:08But however, you know that in the market today, we have few players who are actually very
07:13good that can suit it to your team.
07:15And by the time the market is going to the latter end of the transfer market, these players
07:21become very expensive.
07:22Pressure mounts.
07:23Pressure mounts.
07:24And by the time you start dragging from one club to another, dragging from one club
07:27to another, the pressure is now on them.
07:28When they come into the team and enter into the team preseason and all, the pressure is
07:33there.
07:34And before you know anything, look at how many goals Nunez scored before he came to Liverpool.
07:39Yeah.
07:40And look at the season he came to Liverpool.
07:41Look at what happened to him.
07:42I believe that it was based on the transfer dragging between two different teams and the
07:47amount that he is in buying them.
07:49And you now want to have them as much.
07:51Well, we have to go.
07:53But I'll take your final take.
07:55I'll come definitely just to react to what Ogan just said.
07:57From my hand, I think we just, we should, we should cut, you know, our snaps of slack.
08:01What do I mean?
08:02You know.
08:03After six trophyless seasons.
08:04Wait.
08:05Wait.
08:06This is a new guy in town talking about a new sporting director.
08:09Andrea Bertha.
08:10I want to look at what he's going to do.
08:13What he's going to bring to the team.
08:14But the experience is there.
08:15We could see what he did with Atletico Madrid.
08:18And so I want to believe that we have somebody who is capable.
08:21So I just want to wait and see until the transfer window officially opens.
08:26Well, we'll see if your belief is rewarded.
08:29We have to go on this episode of a nightmare.
08:31Thank you very much for watching.
