A man, accused of kidnapping and raping a two-and-a-half-year-old girl, died of gunshot injuries following an encounter with police in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow on Friday, June 06. A habitual offender, 26-year-old Deepak Verma allegedly raped the toddler after abducting her from near the Chandanagar Metro Station. Police identified him after checking CCTV footages. Later, following a tip-off, police intercepted Verma near Devi Kheda in Cantonment early Friday, June 06. He allegedly opened fire at cops in a bid to escape and sustained injuries in retaliatory firing. He was admitted to Lokbandhu Hospital, where he died during treatment. The minor girl is undergoing treatment at the King George Medical University, where her condition is stated to be critical.
