00:00Despite the rain, it was a warm welcome for Brazilian President Lula da Silva at the
00:05Elysee Palace in Paris on Thursday.
00:08The visit was meant to be about trade talks.
00:12But during a speech at the palace, Lula struck out at Israel and its ongoing onslaught on
00:17Gaza.
00:18It's important that the world powers put an end to this immediately.
00:23We cannot continue to have the UN calling for a ceasefire and not have a ceasefire respected.
00:29So people, we are still seeing genocide in front of us every single day.
00:35Every single day.
00:36Yesterday, 95 people died, all innocent and civilians.
00:41Not a single one was a Hamas leader.
00:43But then, honestly, I don't even speak as the President of Brazil, I speak as a human being.
00:49We cannot accept a war that does not exist, but rather a premeditated genocide by an extreme
00:56right-wing leader was waging a war, including against the interests of his own people.
01:05It's not the first time the Brazilian leader has claimed a genocide as being committed in
01:09Gaza.
01:11He's been a frequent critic of Israel's offensive and last year compared it to the Holocaust.
01:16Today, everyone is interested in peace.
01:23Ukrainian people are not interested in war either, and neither are the people suffering
01:27in Haiti.
01:29In other words, well, excuse my emotion, but it's sad.
01:34It's sad to know that the world remains silent in the face of a genocide in which the greatest
01:39victims are not soldiers at war, but women and children.
01:45So honestly, the day I lose the ability to be indignant, I don't deserve to be the leader
01:50of my country.
01:52So I apologize.
01:55Brazil has joined South Africa in accusing Israel at the International Criminal Court in
02:00The Hague of violating its obligations under the Genocide Convention.
