Oregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning Reveals Best Nick Saban Advice

00:00You and Nick Saban go way back.

00:01What's some advice that maybe he's given to you that you think about or is some of your favorite advice?

00:07I actually visited with Coach just the other day and more than anything, I bounce a lot of thoughts off of him

00:14and see if he has any insight because this guy has a ton of experience and he's the best coach to ever do it.

00:18So more than anything, I think he has an unbelievable ability to look at things from a backseat approach,

00:25big-picture view, see how it affects the program, and then stand his guns on certain things that he thinks are non-negotiables.

00:32And I think he's done a good job, for me at least, detailing, hey, what are your non-negotiables?

00:37Oregon football looks like this, dot, dot, dot, what's it look like?

00:41And me figuring out, okay, I have to be Dan, I can't be Nick, I can't be Kirby or Mike Norvell,

00:46but be you and then figure out what your non-negotiables are and then be ready to adapt.

00:51And he was always great at adapting to how the game might change.

00:55Great at adapting to your ability to recruit, what that might look like.

00:59Great at adapting to how you coach your players.

01:01I think he just always did a phenomenal job of that.

01:03Yeah, how does he do it in retirement?

01:05I think he's enjoying it.

01:06I think he's enjoying it that he still gets a great taste of football,

01:09but maybe he doesn't have to deal with some of the day-to-day that exists.

01:12Yeah, he does a great job on game day.

01:14Yeah, he's phenomenal.

01:15Oh my gosh, and him with McAfee is like, it's perfect.

01:18Yeah, it's great TV.
