00:00Castle Castle
00:00I really am ruggedly handsome, huh?
00:02Every writer needs inspiration, and I've found mine.
00:05I'm Detective Kate Beckett.
00:06Beckett!
00:07Beckett?
00:08Could you get some backup, please?
00:10And thanks to my friendship with the mayor,
00:11I get to be on her case.
00:13Do I look like a killer to you?
00:15Yes, you kill my patients.
00:16And together we catch killers.
00:18I hate this case.
00:19I know, isn't it great?
00:25Mom?
00:27Mom?
00:31Mom, are you here?
00:52Come on.
00:53Come on, Mom, answer.
01:00Oh, hello.
01:23Shouldn't you be in school already?
01:25School doesn't start for another hour.
01:27Yeah, if you're hoping to do the Walk of Shame in private,
01:29you're out of luck.
01:30Oh, don't be silly.
01:31I just didn't realize how early it was.
01:33I have been a bit distracted this morning.
01:36You mean distracted or hypnotized by that giant rock on your finger?
01:40Wow.
01:42Did Chet Pelliburn propose?
01:43Alexis, I think it's about time we start calling him Uncle Chet.
01:46Oh, no, wait a minute.
01:47Wait a minute.
01:48You two, I am not engaged, all right?
01:50Yes, Chet did propose last night and I told him I needed time to think about it.
01:54And he insisted I keep the ring while I make up my mind.
01:57Hmm.
01:58Smart man.
01:59Diamonds can be very persuasive.
02:01I can hear it now whispering,
02:02Keep me.
02:03Keep me.
02:04Unfortunately, now that Chet is up the ante, as they say,
02:09I'm going to have to decide whether I'm in or I'm out.
02:13I thought you loved Chet.
02:15Oh, I do love him, darling. I really do.
02:18Well, you know, it's just that for me it's...
02:20The thrill is gone.
02:22Yes, and it's been gone for quite a while.
02:25Although this little fella did bring it back for about ten minutes.
02:29If he's not the one, then I guess you shouldn't marry him.
02:32That's never stopped her before.
02:33And we miss having you here all the time.
02:35Don't we, Dad?
02:38Dad.
02:41Saved by the bell.
02:42Ah, it's back in the castle.
02:45Hey, did I hear you right?
02:48Our victim is Vivian Marchand, the psychic medium.
02:51Have you heard of her?
02:52Yeah, she was very popular in certain Manhattan circles.
02:55Matter of fact, she did a reading for me at a society party about eight years ago.
02:58It was pretty extraordinary.
03:00Extraordinary?
03:01She got everything right.
03:03You know what?
03:04Come to think of it, she told me that a beautiful woman would one day move into my loft and stay with me forever.
03:10She neglected to mention it was my mother.
03:13How did she die?
03:15Stabbed in the back of the neck with an ice pick and then stuffed into the sofa.
03:20So she didn't see that coming.
03:22When'd she die?
03:23She's in full rigor.
03:24I'd say yesterday afternoon is the approximate time of death.
03:27I got a maintenance worker said he saw a man leaving the back door of Vivian's office around 2.30 yesterday afternoon.
03:32Description?
03:33Tall, Caucasian and tough looking.
03:34All right, Ryan check Vivian's calendar and let's interview her clients from yesterday.
03:37Maybe one of them saw the guy.
03:39What I don't get is why put her on the couch?
03:41She was alive when she went in.
03:43These scratches on her face indicate that she tried to move.
03:46I'm gonna get her back to the lab.
03:49She's got a notation here for 3 p.m. yesterday.
03:52It just says TJ.
03:54And nothing else?
03:55Nope.
03:56Maybe TJ was a ghost coming to visit.
03:57Mediums are the ones that can see ghosts, right Castle?
03:59Yes, psychics can tell the future, mediums can tell the future and talk to the dead.
04:03That's like saying that psychics are con artists and mediums are con artists and charlatans.
04:08I mean in the end they're all just fakes.
04:10You sound pretty certain of yourself.
04:12That's because when I started as a cop I wasted a lot of time on clairvoyance calling tip lines with information that never led to anything.
04:19I mean I'm surprised you're so gullible.
04:21I'm not saying I can speak with the dead, I'm just willing to admit that there are people in this world who are more sensitive than me.
04:27Now that's not hard to believe.
04:29Walked right into that one.
04:31Ms. Marchand, do you know of anyone that might have wanted to harm your mother?
04:35She was a very spiritual person, she didn't have any enemies.
04:39A witness saw a tall dark haired man leaving here around 2.30 yesterday.
04:44Does that sound like anyone your mother knows?
04:46When was the last time you two talked?
04:48Around one o'clock.
04:50She said she had her last client of the day and then she was going to spend the afternoon in meditation.
04:56Do you know the client's name?
04:57No.
04:58It was a mother and a daughter, their names should be in her book.
05:02Well there was a notation in her calendar at 3, the initials TJ.
05:08Does that mean anything to you?
05:10No.
05:11I'm sorry, I can't be more helpful.
05:13Hey, I remember this case.
05:16A guy's wife goes missing, he seems genuinely distraught and then the cops find out he had a girlfriend and that his marriage was on the rocks.
05:22Yeah.
05:23Did your mother help on that case?
05:24Yeah.
05:25She had a vision of him at a local bar with this pretty blonde named Amber.
05:30So she went to the police with the information, that's when they started looking at him as a suspect.
05:34And then what happened?
05:35He went to prison.
05:36That case really put my mom on the map.
05:38Did your mother continue offering the police help after that?
05:41Yes, all over the country.
05:42My mother helped put away over a dozen people in the last ten years.
05:46So here's a list of all the people that Penny Marchand claims her mom helped to convict.
05:51Let's see if any of them are out of jail and still holding a grudge.
05:54On it.
05:55Vivian's one o'clock Monday clients are here.
05:57They say they got a good look at the dark haired guy who was in her office.
05:59Names are Paula and Marina Casillas.
06:02Casillas.
06:03That's a good name.
06:05Hard to possess if pluralized though.
06:07The Casillas' car has broken down, so they will be late for the symphony.
06:11The Casillas' β€” Casillas' β€” they're waiting for you in the lounge.
06:15All right, thanks.
06:18Usually we're her last clients on Monday.
06:21But when we left, there was a man there waiting for Vivian.
06:24She seemed surprised to see him like he wasn't expected.
06:27Oh, and he seemed upset. I could tell.
06:29Could you describe him?
06:30He's wearing dark clothes.
06:32He had black hair going gray at the temples.
06:34Oh, and he had a scar on his face.
06:36I think she called him Alfred.
06:39Or was it Albert?
06:40Okay.
06:41Well, thank you both. You've been very helpful.
06:43How long had you been going to see Vivian?
06:45Four months.
06:46My husband, Emilio, passed away in April.
06:49We both miss him so much.
06:51So she was helping you get closure?
06:53Yes.
06:54Even at our first session, Vivian already knew so much about my Emilio.
07:00Like what?
07:01Well, she knew he made vitamins for a living.
07:04She knew he loved aros con pollo.
07:07She also knew he was a workaholic.
07:09And that he even died at the office.
07:12Vivian said she thought daddy had something very important to tell us.
07:15She was going to commune with his spirit last night.
07:20That we'll never know.
07:22You're not going to believe this.
07:25Vivian's daughter is pretty sure that Albert is Albert Moreno.
07:30Albert the Blade Moreno?
07:31Former muscle for the Spilano crime family.
07:33So Vivian helped put him away?
07:35Mm-mm.
07:36He's her client.
07:37Vivian told Albert that if he invested in a New Jersey real estate deal,
07:40true happiness would be his.
07:41The deal fell through a month ago.
07:43He lost everything.
07:44Ouch.
07:45You give a guy like that bad advice, he'll see to it you are sleeping with the fishes.
07:49Or you get stabbed in the neck with an ice pick and stuffed in a couch.
07:54Whoa.
08:04Albert Moreno is sure a living large for a low level mobster.
08:09Well I guess mob money goes a little farther when you don't have to pay taxes on it.
08:13And yet for Albert, not quite far enough.
08:16Bluene Carter from Real Smart Real Estate.
08:18This house is a Tuscan jewel.
08:21And it's perfect for a young couple.
08:23We're here for Mr. Moreno.
08:24Yes.
08:25I went to see her.
08:27Three months ago Vivian told me I should invest in some real estate deal.
08:31She knew that I had quit my day job.
08:36I was looking to set myself up for retirement.
08:38She told you the investment would bring you true happiness,
08:41but instead you lost it all.
08:43I was upset.
08:46And then she cancelled our last appointment and stopped returning my phone calls.
08:51And then you decided to pay her a visit yesterday around two o'clock.
08:54I told her I'm on my way to meet my broker.
08:56I'm selling my home because I can't pay my mortgage no more.
08:58And then what happened Mr. Moreno?
09:00Did you get angry?
09:01Did things get physical?
09:02No.
09:03But I was mad.
09:05And when I'm mad sometimes people get nervous.
09:09She begged me to let the universe sort itself out.
09:14And she said she was late for an appointment uptown.
09:17Did she say with who?
09:18No.
09:19By then I was late to meet my broker so I left about 2.30.
09:23And just like that, the universe, it sorted itself out.
09:35I'm sorry.
09:36I don't understand.
09:37Turns out my broker's partner is Laureen here, my high school sweetheart.
09:42We broke up in 82, but we never got over each other.
09:47The minute I laid eyes on her again, I haven't left her side.
09:51And I've never been so happy.
09:53So Vivian was right.
09:55Investing in the real estate deal brought you to bankruptcy, which in turn brought you to Laureen and true happiness.
10:02Extraordinary.
10:05So what do you think?
10:08Well, I think it's possible he might have killed Vivian before the universe righted itself.
10:13Not about that.
10:14About them.
10:15Albert and Laureen and star-crossed lovers reunited by fate.
10:18You mean reunited by coincidence?
10:20Oh, let me guess.
10:21You don't believe in fate.
10:22Soulmates?
10:23No.
10:24Unicorns?
10:25Fairies?
10:26Double rainbows?
10:27Didn't you ever think your dolls used to get up at night and play with your toys?
10:30Sorry.
10:31Hmm.
10:32Let me guess.
10:33You were one of those annoying six-year-olds who stopped believing in Santa Claus because
10:37you figured out he couldn't travel faster than the speed of light.
10:40I was three and we didn't have a chimney.
10:49How'd it go with Moreno?
10:51My gut says it's not him, but we still have to look into his alibi.
10:55Oh, so you don't believe in fate, yet your gut has magical properties.
11:00That's cool.
11:01Scully?
11:02She got calls out on most of Vivian's dirty dozens and she'd hear back tomorrow.
11:06Meanwhile, we've been going through her client files.
11:08Trips to the Hall of Records, internet searches, even got a hold of some autopsy files.
11:12Pretty intimate stuff, too.
11:13You see, Castle?
11:14Research.
11:15That's how she made people believe that she has a gift.
11:18And I bet that she even looked into you eight years ago when she went to that party.
11:22And I bet she looked up Paula Casillas as well.
11:24That's how she knew that her husband, Emilio, had a vitamin business.
11:27Is that also how she knew that Albert Moreno would find true love through bankruptcy?
11:30She got lucky.
11:31Oh.
11:32Or maybe it's just that she couldn't get everything she needed from her abilities alone and needed
11:37to do a little extra digging.
11:39I have a fantastic imagination, yet I still do a ton of research when I write a book.
11:49Surrounded by skeptics.
11:50Call being a cop, bro.
11:52Oh, great and powerful spirits.
11:57Tell us, should Graeme break up with Chet Palomar?
12:02This thing must be broken.
12:04Well, luckily, I don't need the spirits to tell me when it's time to say goodbye.
12:09Goodbye, my love.
12:11What if you're being too hasty? Relationships take work, right?
12:14No, no, no. Love is not about work. Trust me, it's about passion. It's about chemistry, romance.
12:18It's about your heart pounding faster because you can't wait to see her.
12:22Can either of you look back on a relationship that ended because the thrill was gone and admit
12:26that maybe you gave up on love too soon?
12:28Dad, you're back with your ex-wife.
12:30Ooh, no, she's right. Yeah, with Gina. The thrill was long, long gone.
12:35Now, it is back with a vengeance.
12:38Of course, it brought along its friends high maintenance and shopaholic.
12:41No. I'm sorry, honey. I'm sorry, but it's just, it's over. I know it.
13:00Hey. Any news on the Dirty Dozen?
13:03Well, most are still in prison, but we're thinking this line of investigation may not get us anywhere.
13:09Why not?
13:10I called around to a couple of lead detectives just to check out the level of Vivian's involvement.
13:14They say they've never even heard of her.
13:17She exaggerated her involvement in these cases in order to build her reputation back up.
13:22Or maybe the cops didn't want to admit that they had a psychic actually helping them.
13:28I mean, what police detective would willingly acknowledge that a lay person is as talented at solving crimes as she is?
13:39Vivian Marchand is not a psychic. I bet my badge on it.
13:43Don't throw those dice until you take a look at this.
13:46You're a commissive division detective squad. It's from Vivian Marchand.
13:51You had a ride this morning. Postmark Monday, the day she died.
13:55That is her letterhead.
13:56To whom it may concern, I feel that my murder is imminent.
14:04And although I have no idea yet where or when this event will occur, I have had a vision of my death.
14:09In the vision, I could not breathe.
14:11I saw a man dressed in black, the number 7518, and I could hear a furious pounding from what seemed to be far away.
14:18I'm sorry, I cannot be more specific.
14:20The psychic predicted her own murder!
14:25Or the killer wrote this in order to throw us off.
14:28Run it. Maybe we'll get lucky with the prince.
14:31Do you think she really...
14:32No.
14:33Yeah, me neither.
14:34Hey, Lainey. What do we got?
14:36We've got cause of death. Blood loss and asphyxiation.
14:39And I'm officially putting the time of death between 5 and 7 p.m. on Monday evening.
14:43So that rules out Albert Moreno.
14:45What else?
14:46There were no scratches on the ice pick blade.
14:49It was brand new. Probably bought special just for the occasion.
14:53And her cell phone was in her hand.
14:55She may have tried to dial for help before she expired.
14:58The digits match the beginning of her daughter's phone number.
15:011-7-1-8-5-5.
15:037-1-8-5?
15:06Those are the numbers from the letter.
15:08They're in a different order, but those are the same numbers.
15:12Oh, go on.
15:14Go on. Say coincidence.
15:15Coincidence.
15:17I'm just saying it's irrefutable, that's all.
15:19It is not irrefutable, Castle. As a matter of fact, it is completely refutable.
15:23Okay, go on. Refute me.
15:26Okay, how about this?
15:27Vivian is dialing her daughter's number.
15:29Our killer comes in, stabs her in the neck, picks up the phone,
15:32drops it into the sofa after her,
15:34and then puts the numbers into the letter along with the rest of the fake predictions.
15:39Refuted.
15:40No one types a number into a cell phone anymore.
15:43The preliminaries on the letter aren't giving us much.
15:45There are no usable prints and no DNA.
15:47And the pickup at the mail drop in Vivian's building is 6 p.m.
15:51Time enough for the killer to have written it and mailed it after she was dead.
15:55But why? Why go through all that trouble?
15:58To keep us spinning wild theories and chasing after men dressed in black instead of following hard evidence.
16:04I mean, come on, Castle. The letter's not even signed.
16:07Actually, I talked to Penny Marchand about that.
16:10She says it's possible her mother would type a letter and not sign it in case the prediction was wrong.
16:14She wouldn't want anybody selling her mistakes on the internet.
16:17But we still can't prove that Vivian actually wrote the letter.
16:20Until her other predictions come true.
16:23Yeah, I'm just...
16:24Good. You're back. I think I got something.
16:27Remember Vivian's first big case?
16:29Yeah, the guy with the missing wife and the blonde girlfriend named Amber.
16:32His name is Steve Adams. Unis are bringing him over right now.
16:34He never found his wife's body.
16:36He did seven years for second degree.
16:37They released him two months ago on parole.
16:39Only after he agreed to wear an anklet with a tracking device.
16:42So, I call his P.O. and he sent over this.
16:45The GPS readout puts Steve at Vivian's address Monday afternoon.
16:52So, Vivian finishes with Paula and Marina Casillas at 2.
16:56Albert Moreno exits out the back door at 2.30.
16:59And now it's time for her 3 p.m. with TJ.
17:02Steve Adams was there from 1.36 to 2.48, waiting for his opportunity.
17:08So, he waits there until she's alone, jumps her, stabs her, and then stuffs her in the couch.
17:14This is harassment!
17:15Take it easy.
17:16I haven't done anything wrong!
17:19Right through here.
17:20Ah, he's wearing all black.
17:23It's gotta be a coincidence.
17:26All black is the new guilty.
17:35I didn't kill her.
17:36You were the last one to see her alive.
17:39The GPS on your anklet indicates that you were at Vivian's office for over an hour the day that she was killed.
17:44Yeah.
17:45But it's not what you think.
17:46Last week, I got a call from a guy named Cody Donnelly.
17:49He's a reality TV producer.
17:50He said he could help me clear my name.
17:52How was he gonna do that?
17:53The day after my wife disappeared, Vivian Marchand told the cops she had a vision of me in a bar with my girlfriend Amber.
17:58Which was true.
17:59That I was there?
18:00Yeah.
18:01But then she started saying she had other visions.
18:03Visions that I murdered my wife, which I did not do.
18:06But she was right once about Amber, so everyone believed her.
18:10Only Vivian had lied about that too.
18:12What do you mean?
18:13Cody Donnelly told me you had proof that Vivian was a customer in the same bar where I took Amber that day.
18:19So she saw me alright.
18:20With her own eyes.
18:21There was nothing psychic about it.
18:23Nothing.
18:24So you figured if you could prove that Vivian was a fraud that maybe people would believe that you hadn't killed your wife as well.
18:29I'm an innocent man.
18:30But thanks to Vivian, everyone in the state believed that I killed my wife.
18:35She got a book deal.
18:38I got seven to ten.
18:39And what was in it for Cody Donnelly?
18:41He wanted me and Vivian to be in his reality show, You've Ruined My Life.
18:44Oh, I love that show.
18:46It's where people unleash their righteous fury against those who have wronged them.
18:50Usually ends in tears and a hug.
18:52Cody and me, we went to her office with the camera crew.
18:54We sat outside in the van for almost an hour.
18:56When she finally came out, I confronted her.
18:58I called her a fake.
19:00Cody told me to make it big, so I did.
19:02And what did Vivian do?
19:04Mostly she freaked.
19:05Then she got in the cab and took off.
19:07Cody dropped me in my apartment on 2nd and 45th and I never saw her again.
19:10GPS puts Adams at his apartment at the time that Vivian was murdered.
19:17Find me some witnesses that can verify that.
19:19You don't trust the GPS?
19:21No, those things can be tampered with.
19:23So Vivian told her daughter that she was going to be at the office all afternoon
19:27and then at 2.45, she takes a cab and leaves to see TJ, whoever that is.
19:34Let's get a hold of Steve Adams' producer, Cody Donnelly.
19:36I want to see him and his footage of Vivian first thing in the morning.
19:39You got it.
19:40I am so glad that you are home.
19:53You would not believe the day I had.
19:55Oh, I think I got you beat.
19:57I wonder what's wrong.
19:59And why are you still engaged to Uncle Chet?
20:02Oh, Richard.
20:06Chet is dead.
20:08What?
20:10How?
20:12Went to his apartment this morning and his kids are there, Boomer and Lottie.
20:18They said he'd had a stroke in his sleep.
20:22I mean, God, I...
20:24He was so young and...
20:27Mother, I am so sorry.
20:30So...
20:33Boomer and Lottie see the ring.
20:35Naturally, they assume that their father and I are engaged
20:38and now they're worried about how I'll handle the news.
20:41And, uh, I spent the whole day with them, receiving visitors.
20:46And they kept telling me how happy their father had been
20:51since we'd been together and how I was...
20:57The love of his life.
21:01And there I was, about to break his heart.
21:06And now they want me to give the eulogy.
21:09I don't think I can.
21:11Oh, Richard.
21:13I know.
21:14I know.
21:15I'm just so...
21:19There she is.
21:20All right, I see her.
21:21Go get her.
21:22Give me my son.
21:23You remember me?
21:24You told the cops you had a vision of me in a bar.
21:26Is that the footage from Cody Donald?
21:28Yeah.
21:29He's waiting for you in interrogation.
21:30Where's Castle?
21:31We had some personal issues he had to deal with.
21:33What do we got?
21:34This part's going just like Steve Adams says.
21:35Vivian comes out.
21:37Gets in her face.
21:39She gets in a cab.
21:40And we get a partial on the license plate.
21:43I'll run it down and see if I can find out where the taxi dropped her off.
21:45Turn it off.
21:46Turn it off.
21:47Detective Beckett?
21:48Hi.
21:49Penny.
21:50What are you doing here?
21:51Is there somewhere we could talk privately?
21:53What's wrong?
21:54Did you remember something?
21:56No.
21:57It's not that.
21:59I'm afraid I wasn't completely honest with you the other day.
22:04The fact is, I have a little bit of what my mother did.
22:08Sometimes I have dreams that are meaningful.
22:11Last night I had a dream about you.
22:14Okay.
22:15And I can't really explain why, but I feel very strongly that I'm supposed to tell you something.
22:19Something important.
22:20Are you ready?
22:21I'm ready.
22:22Alexander.
22:23Alexander?
22:24Alexander.
22:25I don't know who he is or what he means to you.
22:26I don't know any Alexander.
22:27You will.
22:28You will meet an Alexander.
22:29And he will be extremely important to you.
22:32At some future date, he may save your life.
22:35Okay.
22:36Um, good to know.
22:38Thank you, detective.
22:40Thank you, Penny.
22:47Candid reality gold, mate.
22:49Cody Donnelly presents, famous mystery writer, follows a tough but beautiful New York
22:54up around for research.
22:57She'd never go for it.
22:58She's a real bit-
22:59Mr. Donnelly, I appreciate you coming.
23:01What are you doing here?
23:03Uh, for the record I was going to say big rule follower.
23:05I was not discussing the things, I swear to God.
23:08Uh, Naked Heat comes out tomorrow and Cody here was admiring the billboards.
23:12Is that your smoking hot silhouette on the posters then?
23:14No.
23:15So, Mr. Donnelly, where did you go after you left Vivian's office?
23:18After we got all that great footage, I dropped Steve off at his place around, uh, 3.30 or so.
23:24It was just before Vivian Machon called me.
23:27Really?
23:28And what did she want?
23:29To save what was left of her career.
23:30I mean, she knew the film I had on her was damaging.
23:32She said if I buried it, she'd give me something better.
23:35Better like what?
23:36Better like murder.
23:37You see, Vivian said she was hot on a killer.
23:40She said it was bigger than Steve Adams.
23:42This time, it was a body.
23:43She was going to let me film the moment that she confronted the soon-to-be-accused.
23:47She said that she had to confirm one last suspicion
23:50and that I had to be ready to go at a moment's notice because we were going to catch a killer.
23:53And when was this confrontation going to take place?
23:55Straight away.
23:56I got an urgent text about two hours later.
23:58I gathered up my crew, including security, thinking this was it.
24:01And when I called her back, no answer.
24:04I'm guessing she was already dead.
24:13Any news on Vivian's hunt for a murderer?
24:15Well, she had several clients who came to her because of unsolved crimes in the family,
24:19but the ones that we talked to said that their cases are just as cold now as when they first came to her.
24:24Hey, I found the cab.
24:25The driver says he took Vivian to a residence at 112th and Riverside.
24:28Dorman says he remembers Vivian going up to apartment 2C.
24:31It's rented to Nick and Tony Johnston.
24:34Tony Johnston.
24:35TJ.
24:36If Vivian came to see Tony Johnston the day she died, it had to have been about something important,
24:45like this killer she was chasing.
24:47But you'll probably say it was just a coincidence.
24:49Castle, why is it so important to you that I believe all this stuff about fates and psychics and Santa Claus?
24:58Because if you don't believe in even the possibility of magic, you'll never ever find it.
25:04Can I help you?
25:08Tony, I'm Detective Kate Beckett and this is Richard Castle.
25:12Oh my God.
25:13Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, oh my God.
25:17I'm so stressed out.
25:19I can't believe this is happening.
25:21So you know that Vivian was murdered?
25:23When I saw the paper yesterday, I nearly puked up my oatmeal.
25:27Why did Vivian come to visit you on Monday?
25:31Look, this is all very personal and private and it involves my sex life.
25:36Will you promise to keep it confidential?
25:38Absolutely.
25:39Okay, earlier this year I did a terrible thing.
25:43I had an affair with my husband's boss.
25:45Very discreet, no one ever knew about it.
25:48That's why Vivian called me.
25:50She knew about the affair?
25:51She called me out of the blue.
25:52She knew we met at the company Christmas party that we used to rendezvous at the Starburst Hotel.
25:58Everything.
25:59Extraordinary.
26:00I know, right?
26:01I mean, my mind was totally blown.
26:03An affair?
26:04Miss Johnston, did Vivian ever talk to you about murder?
26:07No.
26:08She just told me she knew how I had cheated on Nick, my husband.
26:12And then she asked me a lot of questions about him.
26:15What kind of questions?
26:16She asked if he had a temper and if I felt safe.
26:19She was sure Nick did know about the affair.
26:22Vivian said the spouse always knows.
26:25Did she ever say how she knew all of this?
26:28All of this incredibly personal information, the details of which could not be readily found at a hall of records or through an internet search.
26:34Oh, yeah. The guy I was cheating with? He told her everything.
26:38You know, I'm gonna have to speak with him.
26:40Oh, you can't. I mean, you can't. He's dead. That's why we stopped seeing each other.
26:46He died last April. Heart attack.
26:49You're telling me that your dead lover told Vivian about your affair?
26:53That's right. She said Emilio came to her in a dream.
26:56Emilio?
26:57Emilio Casillas.
26:58Your lover was Emilio Casillas?
27:01Emilio Casillas' autopsy file makes for some very interesting reading.
27:14But do you think he was murdered?
27:17According to the ME's notes, in addition to the cause of death, which was massive heart failure, Casillas showed signs of alopecia and his fingernails within him.
27:24Which means what exactly?
27:27I'd have to exude the body and run some tests, but it could be toxic overdose of selenium.
27:32And what's selenium?
27:33It's a mineral that's naturally found in the body and in small amounts is good for you.
27:37They even sometimes add it to diet pills, health drinks, but too much of it can be wiseness.
27:43Health drinks. Maybe it was also in the vitamins that the Casillas has made. So that would mean we'd be at the factory.
27:51Vivian told Tony that her husband knew about the affair with Emilio Casillas.
27:55So Tony's husband, Nick, works at the Casillas' company. He would have easy access to the selenium and to Emilio.
28:01And didn't the Casillas' daughter say that her father died in the office? That's probably where he received the fatal dose.
28:06So Nick Johnson figures out his wife is sleeping with his boss and he poisons him.
28:10And then Nick discovers that Vivian's on to him and kills her too.
28:14Hey, so I just spoke to Nick Johnston's foreman. He said that Nick clocked out early the day that Vivian died, at five o'clock.
28:25But his wife said he didn't get home until at least seven.
28:28Well, that would have been plenty of time for him to get to Vivian's office, murder her, write the letter, all before the mail was picked up.
28:35But how did he find out that Vivian talked to Tony? Tony wouldn't have told him.
28:39Oh, Tony didn't. But Vivian did. The foreman said that Nick asked for the time off after he was visited by a woman.
28:45A woman who looked a lot like Vivian Marchand.
28:47So Vivian was putting her plan into action. She'd bring Nick down to her office and she'd call Cody Donnelly, have him bring his camera crew.
28:54She would confront Nick about Emilio Casillas' murder, capture it all on film.
29:00Vivian was about to solve Emilio's murder.
29:03And then be returned to her former glory as New York's most famous psychic medium.
29:08That's a pretty bold move.
29:10How did she get on to Emilio's murder in the first place?
29:12How many times do I have to say it? She was a...
29:16I'm sorry, what? Psychic.
29:19Or...
29:23Maybe just very intuitive.
29:25According to Vivian's notes, Paula said Emilio had been working longer hours in the months before his death.
29:31She wrote a fair question mark.
29:33Chelsea wrote this.
29:35Starburst Hotel.
29:37It's the closest place to Emilio's office that rents by the hour.
29:40The manager there said Vivian came by last week.
29:43He confirmed to Vivian that the Lovebirds had been regulars early this year.
29:47And she gave him 200 bucks for his trouble.
29:51Okay.
29:52But how does Vivian go from affair, in general, to affair with Tony Johnston?
29:58That, my friends, is a pretty big leap.
30:00Yeah, uh, that is until you see the picture.
30:03This is from Vivian's research.
30:06This is Tony in the red dress and Emilio next to her at the company's last Christmas party.
30:11Pretty cozy, huh?
30:12Where did she get this?
30:14Well, there's a bulletin board at the Casillas' vitamin factory where employees post pictures.
30:19She could have taken it from there.
30:21So Vivian suspects that Emilio is a cheater.
30:25She gets a hold of his autopsy file, starts thinking that maybe his cheating got him killed,
30:30and she starts doing her usual research to prove her theory.
30:34And all of this investigation leads her right back to Nick Johnston.
30:39She had it all worked out.
30:41Right up until that awkward moment where Nick Johnston stabbed her in the neck with an ice pick and fed her to the couch.
30:47You got the wrong guy. I didn't kill that psychic.
30:50We know she came to see you.
30:51Yeah, she said she needed to talk to me in private.
30:53Said it was urgent, had something to do with my wife,
30:56so I punched out early and went uptown to her office.
30:59And what did you do when you got there?
31:00Nothing. The door was locked.
31:02I pounded on it for ten minutes.
31:04Nobody answered. I figured she was blowing me off, so I went home.
31:07That's a pretty convenient story.
31:10It's the truth.
31:11Okay, why don't we start talking about Emilio Casillas?
31:14What about him?
31:16You knew that he was sleeping with your wife.
31:18They thought they were being so careful, but yeah, I knew.
31:21So what did you do?
31:22Nothing.
31:23Seriously, Nick?
31:25Do you actually expect me to believe that you just sat by and let your boss take your wife away from you?
31:31Do you think I'm that dumb?
31:32She's not that dumb.
31:34I guess it doesn't matter now.
31:36When I found out, I went to Emilio, and I asked him to stop seeing her.
31:41And what happened?
31:42He said no. He was in love with her.
31:44I threatened to tell his wife, and he just said, do what you gotta do.
31:48So I decided that I wasn't gonna do his dirty work for him.
31:51If he wanted to leave his wife of 30 years, then he should just be a man and do it himself.
31:56But I wanted to save my marriage, so I kept my mouth shut.
32:01Two weeks later, Emilio was dead.
32:03And you did nothing to help that along. Is that what you're saying?
32:07Help what along? He had a heart attack.
32:10The stress of being a lying, cheating asshat finally did him in.
32:14Penny Marchand is here?
32:15She says it's urgent.
32:18Penny? What is it?
32:20Detective, I have something important to tell you.
32:23Oh, Penny, is this about the mystery man? Because I really don't know any Alexander.
32:27Alexander?
32:28Yeah, I'll tell you about it later. Penny, I'm in the middle of a very-
32:31Detective, you have to listen to me. I know who murdered my mother.
32:40So let me just get this straight.
32:44You're telling me that you had a dream that your mother was murdered by the Freemasons.
32:50In the dream, I was having dinner with my mother in a Masonic hall. She was very concerned. She kept pointing to men around the room and saying, ask the Masons what happened. That's the only way you'll get closure.
33:05Where are we?
33:08Steve Adams' alibi checked out. What about Nick Johnston?
33:11Well, I told him not to take any trips out of town until we got this sorted out.
33:14Well, the good news is, with this Freemasons lead, we have a whole new crop of suspects.
33:18Freemasons.
33:19Ignore him.
33:21So Paula and Marina Casillas, if they knew that Emilio was cheating, that would be motive.
33:26Maybe they found out that Vivian was investigating his dad.
33:28But they were Vivian's clients. Why would murderers go to a psychic for closure?
33:32They also have an alibi for the evening Vivian was killed. Uniforms canvassed the restaurant where they were dining with friends. They were there from 5pm till after 7pm.
33:41Was this restaurant anywhere near Vivian's office?
33:43Yeah, around the corner. New place, uh, Mason's.
33:47Ask the Masons and they will give you closure.
33:51Let's not get carried away.
33:52Ask the Masons, please. Just this once.
33:57Believe.
34:00You know what's going on here?
34:01No, not really.
34:02Me neither.
34:03No matter what happens, we will never speak of this again.
34:15Hello, this is Detective Kate Beckett with the NYPD. Could I speak with the owner, please?
34:20Hello, Mr. Mason.
34:21I have a couple of questions to ask you.
34:24Mrs. Casillas, whose idea was it to go and visit Vivian Marchand in the first place?
34:29We have had a very long day.
34:31Please answer the question.
34:32It was my idea.
34:34Mother thought it cost too much, but I missed Daddy so much that I was willing to try anything.
34:39And when she knew so many private things about your father?
34:41It was almost like being with him. Like it was in the room with us.
34:43The night that Vivian Marchand was murdered, the two of you went to dinner with friends at Mason's.
34:48That's right. It's a new place. My mother wanted to try it.
34:52The waiter confirmed that you were there from 5 until 7.30.
34:57How was your meal?
34:59Did you order wine with dinner?
35:00Yes.
35:01No, I mean they don't have a liquor license yet, so you bring your own.
35:05So you brought your own bottle of wine with you then?
35:07No.
35:08Mother went out to the liquor store and brought us a bottle. She was gone about 20 minutes.
35:12And what time was that?
35:135.15 maybe? What's this all about?
35:15Paula, we went to the liquor store. You didn't buy that bottle of wine at 5.15. According to this receipt, you bought it at 3.12. And at the same time, you bought an ice pick.
35:27I don't understand.
35:28You bought that bottle of wine and then you put it aside. And then at 5.15 you left the restaurant and went straight to Vivian's office and murdered her.
35:37Then you went and you retrieved the bottle of wine. You returned to the restaurant. You had dinner with your daughter and your friends.
35:43That's crazy! Mom, tell them! Why would she do something like that?
35:48To cover up another murder. Your father's.
35:52Did you figure out that Emilio was cheating or did he tell you?
35:57He told me that he had met someone. That she was young and beautiful. And that I was just a boring old lady.
36:13I took some selenium from the factory and every morning I put a little bit in this coffee.
36:20My God! Mom!
36:22When you wanted to go see Vivian, I went along to humor you. But she knew things that she shouldn't have known.
36:33And then when she told you that Emilio wanted to tell you something important.
36:36And she said she was going to spend the evening communing with his spirit.
36:40The cheating son of a bitch was going to tell on me. After everything that he had done, I couldn't let that happen.
36:49I had to kill her to stop him!
36:52Mother, stop talking. We want a lawyer.
36:55Paula Casillas is lawyered up. He's already trying to suppress her confession.
37:03Will that work?
37:04You know, I doubt it. But Paula's done talking.
37:07Did you ask her who wrote the letter?
37:09No, I didn't get a chance. I guess it'll have to remain a mystery.
37:12Uh, actually not quite. Do you remember the last clue? The sound of knocking from far away?
37:19That would have been Nick Johnson. He said he pounded on that door for quite some time
37:22before he finally gave up and went away. Vivian was already dead.
37:26Yeah, but Paula could have still been in the office waiting for him to leave.
37:29She would have heard the knocking, just like she saw the phone, just like she saw Albert Moreno,
37:33who was probably dressed in black, so she just put it into the letter to throw us off.
37:36Hmm. Only according to your timeline on the murder board, by the time Nick got to the office at 545,
37:43Paula was back at the restaurant. So the office was empty. Except, of course, for Vivian.
37:52Oh, before I forget, what did Penny say about Alexander?
37:56Oh, nothing. Just some silly stuff that didn't really make any sense.
38:01Why?
38:02Because my middle name is Alexander.
38:04I thought your middle name was Edgar.
38:06Been perusing the personal section of the Richard Castle website again, have we?
38:10No, I changed my middle name to Edgar for Edgar Allan Poe back when I changed my last name to Castle.
38:15My given name is Richard Alexander Rogers. What a coincidence, huh?
38:27Well, I think that was a lovely service. And, if I may say, your speech was the best.
38:33Oh, well, thank you for writing it.
38:36Phew.
38:37And I think, you know, between the two of us, we managed to capture the essence of Chet.
38:41Yes.
38:42And Boomer and Lottie, very, very gracious about taking the ring back and the whole...
38:48Oh, God. I feel terrible.
38:52You know, you really have nothing to feel guilty of.
38:56Oh, Rich.
38:57No, if anything, by telling Chet you wanted to think about getting engaged, you gave him one more day of hope.
39:04But now he knows.
39:06He's up there, I assume.
39:08And he knows everything.
39:09He knows he gave his heart to a woman who was shallow and a little cowardly and...
39:15...didn't really deserve him.
39:21Come over.
39:22What?
39:23Come here.
39:24Oh, honey, I...
39:25I don't have...
39:26Now you can ask Chet anything you want to know.
39:34Chet.
39:36Darling, do you forgive me?
39:41There. Yes. Now you know.
39:43Oh, you moved it.
39:45Yes, I did.
39:47And let me tell you something else.
39:49Chet was nobody's fool.
39:51He knew you. All of you.
39:52All of you.
39:54And he loved you.
39:56And I'm sure wherever he is now, he still does.
40:04Come on.
40:05Get some sleep.
40:06Richard.
40:07Richard.
40:08Whatever mistakes I've made in my life, I raised a good man.
