00:32:24Another one that I conducted earlier today with Vince Russo.

00:32:27A very honest and open interview with the man in charge of creative here at WCW.

00:32:31Well, Tony, we're assuming, and I know you know,

00:32:33that this interview will pass legal and management muster here on Nitro.

00:32:37But I want to hear what Vince Russo has to say.

00:32:39We haven't seen this interview yet.

00:32:41We don't know what's going to come out of his mouth.

00:32:43But there are a lot of unanswered questions that we need to ask Vince Russo.

00:32:46Whatever Vince Russo says goes double for me, guys.

00:32:49He's been the voice of reason in his company since he came here.

00:32:52I think every single thing he says on this interview,

00:32:55hey, you may not agree with it, you may not like it, but it will be the truth.

00:33:40But there will come a time, there will come a place when I will tell the entire story of what happened at Bash at the Beach.

00:33:53You came here, it's been less than a year, but when I found out you were coming here from the World Wrestling Federation in September of last year,

00:34:01my first thought was why would Vince Russo want to leave the WWF and come here?

00:34:06You had a lot of success there.

00:34:07Why did you come here?

00:34:08Well, Tony, there are a lot of reasons, but I think the main reason was because it was a great, great challenge.

00:34:13I mean, in the WWF, I was writing the television, the ratings was six, nine, seven.

00:34:18And at that point, I felt that the WWF had really peaked.

00:34:22And if you look back at WWF now, in the last ten months, they've been exactly where they were when I left.

00:34:28I looked at WCW as a great challenge.

00:34:31And what I saw here was I saw a whole breed of a new blood that was stuck somewhere in the middle because, for whatever reason, they couldn't break that establishment.

00:34:42This talent couldn't break through.

00:34:45I strongly felt that if I were able to help them get through and to help them break the politics, that WCW could give WWF a run.

00:34:55And, you know, to this day, I believe that.

00:34:57You know, you said for whatever reason, but you and I both know what that reason is.

00:35:01And it's that same reason that after three months here of taking our TV and turning it in a direction that you wanted to see it go in, that you were on the outside once again.

00:35:10How did that make you feel?

00:35:11Well, Tony, it's all about politics.

00:35:12And again, there was an establishment in WCW.

00:35:16You know, there was a guard that didn't want to let the Hungry Lions through.

00:35:21I mean, let's face it.

00:35:22You know it.

00:35:23I know it.

00:35:24And it wasn't benefiting WCW.

00:35:25What it was doing was it was benefiting the individuals.

00:35:29Well, you know, I think we've eliminated a lot of those individuals.

00:35:33And I think now you're finally starting to see the new blood of WCW come through, working their asses off in the ring.

00:35:41And finally, WCW is getting to a place that it needs to be.

00:35:45Did you feel it would be this tough, breaking through the establishment?

00:35:48No.

00:35:49I honestly didn't, Tony.

00:35:50I mean, you know, let's face it.

00:35:51You know, three months, my first time here, I take the rating from a 2-8 to a 3-4 in three months.

00:35:573-4 was the last show I did.

00:35:59Next thing I know, you know, I'm home watching Sigmund and the Sea Monsters with my daughter.

00:36:04It blew my mind.

00:36:05But again, it's the wrestling business.

00:36:07It's politics.

00:36:08But for that new blood and for those Hungry Lions, you know, I made a promise to them.

00:36:15And the promise was that I was going to see through it that the right thing was done.

00:36:19You know, for the longest time here, when I was in the WWF, it was a joke how WCW was an ATM machine.

00:36:25There were high-priced players who didn't perform in the ring, who went through the motions and collected their paycheck laughing all the way to the bank.

00:36:33That wasn't going to get WCW anywhere, and it didn't get WCW anywhere.

00:36:37Where it was getting WCW was deeper and deeper and deeper into a hole.

00:36:42You know, now, with Booker T as the champion and guys like Booker leading the way,

00:36:48WCW, after ten months of me being on this job, is finally in a place that it needs to be.

00:36:54But it hasn't been an easy ten months for you.

00:36:56You came back after three months, and then you're on the outside.

00:36:59April 10th, you come back, and you form the new blood, and we're back on the direction that you want to be.

00:37:04But you've had to be involved more than just behind the scenes.

00:37:07You've been involved physically in many angles.

00:37:10Well, Tony, you know, again, I was so bitter with what happened and sitting home for the three months.

00:37:15When I came back to WCW, I came back with a vengeance.

00:37:18And I came back really willing to do anything I possibly could do to help this company.

00:37:24If it meant, you know, climbing to the top of a steel cage with Ric Flair, then so be it.

00:37:29You know, I did what I had to do.

00:37:31And, you know, as I said, it's not about me.

00:37:34It's about we.

00:37:35And if me being in front of the camera was going to help this company, you know, I had no problem with that.

00:37:39You told me when you came back or after you made your run and after you had the match against Ric Flair that you would never be in front of the camera again.

00:37:48You still feel that way?

00:37:49Well, Tony, yeah.

00:37:50I mean, you know, I don't want to be on TV.

00:37:52You know, I'm not one of the boys.

00:37:53I like working with the boys and making them the best they can be.

00:37:57But the reality is I know Ric Flair has a receipt with my name on it.

00:38:00And, you know, one thing, and again, work or shoot, I'm shooting with you.

00:38:05And this is the first time I've ever said this, and I truly mean this.

00:38:09You know, coming from Long Island, you know I'm a New Yorker.

00:38:11I've got my eye on Starcade, which is in December, at the Nassau Coliseum, my backyard.

00:38:16As a matter of fact, my radio show started at the Nassau Coliseum almost about ten years ago.

00:38:21I would love nothing better, Tony, than in New York, Long Island, my backyard,

00:38:27than to get John Rocker in the middle of that ring at the Nassau Coliseum for Starcade.

00:38:33Whether Rocker wants to work or shoot, I really don't care.
