00:00Hello, I am Chitra Rajguru from Nashik, you are watching Lokma Tanks.
00:16Leopard spotting or leopard attack are not new for Nashik, but what happened in Dindori
00:22in recent time has shaken the residents.
00:25Twenty-year-old pyre Chauhan was working in her farmland when she was killed in leopard
00:31attack.
00:32A five-year-old boy, Rudresh Zadho, was taken from his own house premises by a leopard and
00:39later his lifeless body was found in a nearby farm.
00:44These back-to-back heartbreaking incidents have frustrated the residents and the angry
00:49residents were now demanding for the permanent solution for leopard attack situations, acting
00:56upon which Nashik's Forest Department has come up with something new.
01:01For spotting the leopards in a particular area is quite a task for the Forest Department,
01:07and hence, to combat this issue, Nashik Forest Department's East Division has come up with
01:14AI warning system to spot the leopards.
01:17Since Dindori is a leopard-prone area, it becomes difficult to spot the leopard and catch it
01:24in a particular timeline.
01:26This new AI system will now help the department to spot the leopard and alert the residents
01:33or farmers who are nearby in 2-3 km radius.
01:38Lokmatimes.com spoke to Umesh Wawre, who is Deputy Conservator in Nashik Forest Department's
01:45East Division.
01:46Let's hear from him what exactly is this system and how it will help the residents.
01:51Basically, this system is called as a leopard adaptation system.
01:56Now, this is being installed in Dindori range of East Nashik Division.
02:01So, the basic purpose of this installation of this system is that to make aware of the existence
02:07of the leopard.
02:08This is a kind of early warning system.
02:15So, this is why the leopard also goes on and people get on the early warning system of
02:22people.
02:23This means that they can take care of their children and care for themselves.
02:29They can take care that they can protect their children from their own.
02:35This is why they have built this system.
02:38Sir, recently, in the particular area,
02:42there are 2-3 deaths in recent times.
02:46What is the reason to install this system?
02:49One of the reasons is that
02:52in this division, basically,
02:54we have seen a lot of crop patterns in the crop pattern.
03:03This system was the general division.
03:08We are trying to replicate this system in this division.
03:13We have put two systems in experimental basis.
03:17We have identified two locations in two villages.
03:29One in Vaanarwadi,
03:31and the second is in Nirobande village, in Dinduri, Talokan.
03:35How this AI-based system actually works?
03:38When a leopard passes near a pole fitted with a special camera,
03:41the system instantly detects the animal.
03:44It then activates a loud siren around 120 decibels
03:48that can be heard up to 2-3 km away, even at night.
03:54At the same time, a halogen light turns on capturing leopard's image on the camera.
04:00And that's not all.
04:02A warning message is also sent immediately
04:05to forest officers and staff linked to the system via mobile.
04:10This modern alert system runs on AI chip
04:13that holds around 1.5 lakh patterns of leopards,
04:18from their tail to their jaws,
04:20helping it detect them with high accuracy day or night.
04:25This is largely modern.
