00:00...along to the season finale for Formula One this season.
00:03We started on July the 5th and in 161 days we packed in 17 races and so much excitement.
00:10Here we are in Abu Dhabi then for the 12th world champ number of Valtteri Bottas.
00:14As we have five lights for the final time ahead of the drivers, it's lights out.
00:19And away we go, Verstappen ahead of Bottas.
00:21Norris getting a good start but behind Lewis Hamilton, Sainz and Albon neck and neck going into the first corner.
00:26Verstappen leads from Bottas, he once again gets all squirrelly out of the first corner.
00:30Bottas ahead of his team mate Lewis Hamilton, there's Norris, Albon, Sainz and then Danny Kriat.
00:35Charles Leclerc ahead of Sebastian Vettel, the two Ferraris.
00:37Now he's leaving Ferrari moving to Racing Point and talking to Aston Martin.
00:42But talking of this team, oh Sergio Perez what's happened here?
00:46It looks like to be, just press the button, open the clutch and push that.
00:51It should be recoverable quite easily without needing a full safety car but you can just see the frustration there for Sergio Perez.
01:01In his last race with Racing Point, could be his last race.
01:04Perez and the Racing Point team as well.
01:08His number one mechanic Mikey right at the front of the crew there.
01:11He paid tribute to him on the radio going to the grid.
01:13And the engine just completely went on him.
01:18Oil pressure kill that says on his steering wheel.
01:24Absolute heartbreak and sporting tragedy for the Racing Point team.
01:28Otmar Satna, the team principal, will go to the most.
01:31I love you.
01:32The engine's off again.
01:34Oh, I'm off.
01:37Ferrari made a mistake here.
01:39This aero looks good.
01:40Yeah, yeah, I'm talking Ferrari.
01:45Not Mercedes, but Sens could have split them.
01:47But, sorry, I segued in something else there.
01:50It looks to me as if Ferrari made a mistake.
01:53Unless, of course, the leaders run out of tyres towards the end.
01:57See what happens.
01:59And that is the scene in the paddock at the moment.
02:01Sergio Perez making his weapon already.
02:041.3 seconds clear of Valtteri Bottas out in front.
02:08Yeah, that's crucially good, isn't it?
02:10Build the gap.
02:11It's very Mercedes-esque, isn't it?
02:13Build the gap so that you can't give the DRS to the man chasing you.
02:18And just you can see where the car's touching the ground there.
02:20And look, it's puffs of blue smoke as the underneath the car's burning for Carlos Sainz.
02:26But a fairly technical go of the throttle and does slow down the car behind.
02:30I didn't realise that there was a position change because of it.
02:34And there might be a position change here as well.
02:36Because Pierre Gasly has gone down the inside of Lance Stroll.
02:39And he has forced that out for Tauri.
02:40Past the racing point.
02:42They did touch as Gasly went through.
02:45And Lance Stroll down into 10th now with Gasly up in the 9th.
02:48It was a bold move.
02:49Are you saying, Anthony, that once he got into the speed limit zone,
02:53he slowed down again and backed up the racing point?
02:59Anthony, race control.
03:02Yeah, yeah, he definitely did.
03:03Yeah, so he slows down initially to get the car into the speed limit.
03:09And then he slowed down even more after that.
03:12I'm sure we'll see the clip.
03:13And eventually that Antep race control has been at a party too.
03:17Yeah, absolutely.
03:18He's made that happen by stretching that first stint over.
03:23If Max is starting to lose tyre,
03:25and Lewis Hamilton has now had two track limits at 21 consecutive laps,
03:29but if Max is starting to lose tyre temperature,
03:32that means he's losing the tread, the meat of the tyre as well,
03:36with 15 laps to go.
03:38There's still plenty of jeopardy here, yeah?
03:40Charles Leclerc on Kimi Räikkönen.
03:44The brakes so much later than Kimi Räikkönen Carney,
03:46and he dances around the Alfa Romeo that then fights back.
03:49Kimi Räikkönen, the most experienced driver on the grid,
03:53the oldest driver on the grid,
03:55the only canniest driver at times on the grid as well.
03:57Looked like he'd been passed there by Leclerc,
04:00but he found a way to keep that Alfa Romeo ahead,
04:04to hang on to 12th place.
04:05Nothing heard about his poor indiscretions on the track limits so far,
04:10are there, with Charles Leclerc?
04:11And the stewards, I wonder, saying,
04:12well, look, you're exceeding track limits,
04:14but you're not necessarily gaining advantage.
04:19There's nothing, you're right,
04:21on the screen at all about that one.
04:23It's the tracks, you know, the corners...
04:27There you go.
04:28Finally, Martin, black and white flag for Charles Leclerc.
04:30There you go.
04:31So that is his third one, isn't it?
04:33So...
04:34The corners in the same place every lap.
04:37So there's a track limit.
04:38No surprises.
04:40Max Verstappen, with the Dutch vote going his way at the moment,
04:4520% leading the driver of the day polled.
04:48Yep, that looks pretty much the same infringement,
04:53just going over that white line.
04:56Big cop.
04:58I think so.
05:00Charles Leclerc,
05:02didn't run right of its hair,
05:04but it did 12 months ago.
05:06There's Lauren Meckis, by the way,
05:07who's taken over trackside duties
05:08in terms of running that Ferrari team this weekend.
05:11Mathieu Bonotto, watching back at Marinello,
05:14didn't travel to Abu Dhabi,
05:16not Covid-related,
05:18but wasn't feeling too well.
05:23Look at Max's lead, look.
05:26Now, 11.
05:27He's not a run all the way through.
05:28He's looked absolutely imperious
05:30and has not been the greatest race.
05:32That is a fact.
05:34But for Max Verstappen,
05:36it's another fantastic feeling
05:38as he rounds the final corner.
05:40The checker flag's in sight.
05:42Verstappen wins the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
05:45and rounds off the season
05:46in perfect fashion
05:48for himself and for Red Bull.
05:51Verstappen victorious in Abu Dhabi.
05:54Mercedes,
05:55the Constructors' Champions,
05:57playing second best
05:58under the lights here tonight.
06:00Bottas finishes ahead of Hamilton
06:01in second and third.
06:03Alex Albon's late charge
06:04sees him stay in fourth
06:06but only a second and a half behind.
06:09And the fireworks start to take effect
06:12in the night sky
06:13as we look down
06:15to see who's coming next.
06:17It'll be the two McLarens.
06:18Time is some donuts, I think.
06:21I was going to say,
06:21are we going to see some donuts?
06:23Yes, we are.
06:24The world champion
06:26in the world championship winning car
06:29for the seventh consecutive season.
06:31Mercedes, world champions
06:33for the seventh time
06:35in his Formula One career.
06:36Lewis Hamilton, world champion.
06:39Donuts, as is traditional now
06:42on the grid at the final race.
06:45Valtteri Bottas joining him
06:47on that grid as well.
06:51Whilst Mercedes
06:52did their donuts,
06:55it would be wrong
06:56to not let Kevin Magnussen
06:58join in the fun as well.
07:00For the first time in a while.
07:02It's the first time in four races
07:04we've seen now
07:04from Bottas on the podium.
07:06And for Max Verstappen,
07:08well, it's the first time
07:10since that 70th anniversary Grand Prix
07:13at Silverstone
07:14that we see him
07:15and his Red Bull winning a race.
07:17Of course, you know,
07:18they've missed out
07:19in this crazy year we've had.
07:20They've missed out
07:21on the races
07:21where Red Bull tradit all.
07:24But, you know,
07:25well done Formula One.
07:27That's all I'll say.
07:28Formula One
07:29has started its season
07:30on July the 5th.
07:32It ended
07:33in the middle of December.
07:35It saw Mercedes
07:36clinch both titles
07:37once again.
07:38It saw Max Verstappen
07:39and Red Bull
07:40leave their
07:41most dominant performance
07:42right until the very end.
07:43He got 17 races in
07:46that celebrate Formula One
07:48in 2020
07:49as Verstappen
07:50celebrates another win
07:52under the lights
07:53here in Abu Dhabi tonight.
08:01I think the word
08:02a beauty in this regime.
