00:06OMG!
00:08WHOO!
00:14If you are beautiful in the RIC
00:16then you will be happier
00:18when we're going to go.
00:20Because it's just a few minutes
00:22that's what's going on.
00:24Hello, I'm Ann Dumaliang,
00:28managing trustee of the Masungi GRVServe.
00:34The conservation efforts in Masungi started
00:36in the 1990s. It was led
00:38by my dad who had a project
00:40here during that time and
00:42for the last 25 years
00:44have devoted a lot of his time to
00:46making sure that the place is
00:48restored from a
00:50barren landscape that it was before
00:52to what it is that we see
00:54here today.
00:58MASSUNGI
01:06Tara guys! Suot na.
01:08Ganun pala yan.
01:10Ha, echo!
01:12Echo!
01:14Ha!
01:16Again, the key features of Masumi is to carry it with many species of flora and fauna.
01:22Other things are here for Masumi Matatagpuan.
01:45Or also known as Kuwago.
02:34Because we are responsible tourists.
02:36Here in Masuni, the dry season runs from November to April.
02:46While the wet season is from May to October.
02:49January naman is often the coolest month while May is often the hottest.
02:53So choose your booking date wisely.
03:01Nasa kabilang bunok na tayo.
03:03Talaga ba?
03:10Para tambayan!
03:21Let's go!
03:222015, 2016, that was when we created the Masumi G Reserve.
03:27And we did that with the intent of creating an experience that will allow people to love the place the way we learned to love it as we were growing up together with it.
04:24OMG!
04:26Totoo nang save the best for last dahil di ko in-expect kung gaano kataas at ka-extreme ang final bus.
04:32As the final route natin, nabayawak.
04:36Wait lang!
04:38OMG!
04:40Kasi medyo may fear of heights ako.
04:42Kunti lang naman.
04:43Pero, kinabahan na ko sa mga gamit ko.
04:48Wow!
04:50Grabe!
04:52Slowly but surely.
04:55Oh my!
04:57Kasi yung sapatos dumidikit siya dito.
05:00Pag tinatanggal mo siya, mahirap siya tanggalin mo yun sana.
05:05OMG!
05:06Okay!
05:14Isa-isa lang ba ito?
05:15Ito!
05:24I survived!
05:26Thank you, Lord!
05:27Ito!
05:30Kuya Romeo, grabe ang hirap nun ah!
05:33Yun na ata yung pinakahirap na ginawa natin today, no?
05:35Pero, yeah.
05:36I will definitely climb it again.
05:39Because it's a challenge.
05:42Okay!
05:43Sobrang lapit na natin sa snacks.
05:44Tara, kuya!
05:45Tara!
05:46Kung pupunta kayo sa Masungiji Reserve, i-expect nyo na may masarap na snacks at the end of the trail.
06:01So, there is always light at the end of the trail.
06:06Tara, kain tayo!
06:07We want a fully rewilded Masungi landscape that is free from all of these threats of its existence.
06:19We hope that it is a landscape that will survive past our lifetimes and one that will inspire other people protecting other landscapes.
06:48The Masungi Geo Reserve is a good example of how nature protects us and that's why it's important that we protect it pa.
06:58Not only does that, but we're notDEA!
07:07Hi! Hi, Karine! Did you enjoy it?
07:11Okay naman!
07:12The last one was a killer
07:13Because of the height
07:14But like the merienda was so good
07:18Like the Banana Saba and everything
07:20Like the icing of the cake
07:22That's how we bait people sometimes into going on and continuing on
07:25The merienda
07:26The merienda.
07:27Yeah, the merienda at the end of the trail.
07:29Yeah, free merienda.
07:33So, what are your tips for everyone who wants to hike or travel as a beginner?
07:38What I advocate for when it comes to visiting places and locations would be
07:43and choose destinations that actually care about destination stewardship,
07:47meaning places that actually showcase the geographical character of the place.
07:52It causes people to love or understand why that place is worth protecting.
07:56So, normally these are also locations that would care a lot around the impact that they have
08:02on the community surrounding the trail or the activity that they run.
08:07And then they would also be wary or careful around carrying capacity.
08:11So, a lot less on mass tourism, but more on low-value, high-impact approaches or experiences.
08:21So, you don't stress the landscape for the sake of profiting out of it.
08:26If you want to push it a bit more, then,
08:29so then, tangkilikin yung mga destinations that put in a lot of work when it comes to regenerative tourism.
08:36Basically, like in Masungi, parang widen pa what is restored in a certain place.
08:41And that's it. It's a wrap. Thank you so much.
08:44Anything else more to add?
08:46Yeah, we invite all of you to please come over and see the place,
08:50understand why we put in so much effort in protecting it and keeping it alive.
08:56You're all welcome here to have your own relationship with the area and hopefully that could help you as well
09:03come to understanding what your role is when it comes to protecting our heritage and pursuing sustainability in our country.
09:11Guys, I made it. I feel like I deserve another crown.
09:17Guys, thank you so much for being with me.
09:20And I hope that you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed it.
09:24And I hope I tried you to discover the Masungi Trail because it is very educational and very informative.
09:31Thank you for watching and until the next episode of Straight From The Experts, ingat! Bye!
10:01Thank you!
