00:00Aliens. Are they real? Well, recently released documentation from the U.S. government suggests
00:09quite a few unexplained phenomena, but the jury's still out. However, if you want to up your chances
00:14of spotting a UFO, experts say there are some places with far more sightings than others.
00:18This map was recently released as part of a new study of UAPs, or unexplained anomalous
00:23phenomena, showing where in the country has the highest sightings. The study was conducted using
00:28some 98,724 sightings, logged between just 2001 and 2020. And you don't have to be an expert to
00:36conclude the country's west and southwest are clear hotspots, with geographer Richard Medina saying
00:41about it, quote, The West has a historical relationship to UAP, Area 51 in Nevada, Roswell
00:47in New Mexico, and here in Utah we have Skinwalker Ranch in the Uinta Basin, and military activity in
00:52the U.S. Army Dugway Proving Ground. He adds there are more sightings, likely because of the active
00:57outdoor communities in those areas. They can recreate outdoors year-round, with better
01:02atmospheric conditions, i.e. no cloud cover, especially at night when most of these sightings
01:06occur. The researchers say this is just the first step in better understanding UAPs as well,
01:11saying that geographical context could provide some insights into what people are really seeing.
