00:16Well, hi there!
00:17We are in Seoul, South Korea.
00:18We've come here right now to Gwangjang Market.
00:20Gwangjang Market was the first permanent market in Korea.
00:24Over 100 years later, it is still bustling as ever,
00:27with hungry tourists and locals alike.
00:2980% of the population is Chinese or Japanese.
00:34Ah, yeah. Really?
00:36This place is famous for its huge variety of traditional Korean street foods.
00:41Food you can grab on the go.
00:43We're about to try out an entire tiny little crab.
00:45Or have a quick sit down to eat and enjoy.
00:48Wow, that's like a whole meal right there. Look at these.
00:50From Korean comfort food.
00:52There's a whole freaking fish right here.
00:54To food with a face on it.
00:56That's a whole head of a pig. How do you order that?
00:58This place has it all.
00:59Hello, friends.
01:00I'm here today to Gwangjang Market.
01:03I want to eat a lot of food.

01:34It's spicy.
01:35It's spicy.
01:36It's spicy.
01:37It's spicy.
01:38It's spicy.
01:39My Korean's a little rusty.
01:41First stop of the day, warming it up with two best friends,
01:44odang and kimbap.
01:45Odang is fish cake boiling in a savory hot broth,
01:49perfect for cold days.
01:51So it's a little spicy.
01:52If you don't want to eat the odang, at least get the juice.
01:55It just warms you up in the wintertime.
01:56Mayak kimbap is a specialty of Gwangjang Market,
01:59usually filled with carrots, spinach, and yellow pickled radish.
02:05Okay, the sauce is spicy for your nose.
02:07Mayak actually means drug,
02:10cause this stuff is addicting.
02:11We're gonna sit down and try a little bit of all of this.
02:17I'm gonna start with my mini kimbap here.
02:19Take a look at that.
02:20It's like a bunch of little tiny kimbap to go.
02:22Mayak itself means narcotics.
02:24Basically why they've called it that is because
02:27it's got some horseradish in there that's gonna like singe
02:29your nose and like burn the back of your skull.
02:32Let's try it out.
02:32Oh, that's a skull burner.
02:37If you love that burn you get from the wasabi when you eat sushi,
02:42you will love this.
02:43And actually Korea is a place when you come here and get kimbap,
02:46you never have sauce with it.
02:47Even if you ask for soy sauce to put with it,
02:49they're like, really?
02:51That's not what we do.
02:52But here, this lady's doing her own thing.
02:53She's got this intense horseradish.
02:55I'm gonna put way too much on there.
02:56Oh lady, you're trying to kill me.
02:58Here we go, here we go.
02:59Oh, it hurts so good.
03:01Oh.
03:02I feel it in my sinuses, in the back of my brain.
03:05That'll wake you up.
03:05And then you gotta cool it down with some of your odang juice over here.
03:10Savoring, salty, perfect.
03:11This is, it can be called odang in Korea.
03:13They call it omuk.
03:14It's in a similar sauce to the other odang, but it's like a spicy sauce.
03:18Let's try that out.
03:19Mm-hmm.
03:19Perfect.
03:20Very dense, bouncy, chewy, fishy.
03:22And then the spice gets you at the end.
03:24This is a great start to the day.
03:25Let's keep it moving.
03:28Touch the sky.
03:30Make me feel alive.
03:32And when we come.
03:34Our food search continues here in Guangzhou Market.
03:36There's a ton of food to be found.
03:38And basically, the whole market is enclosed with this rooftop here.
03:41So it doesn't matter if it's winter or if it's raining.
03:43You can get in here for some tasty treats.
03:45Oh, I spotted our next food right here.
03:49Welcome to the world of fried everything.
03:52There's tons of stuff to choose from here.
03:54My neighbors to the side here, they've got some fish.
03:57And that looks very yummy.
03:58This is the Korean comfort food station.
04:00Especially the hearty bindae duck.
04:03I want to try some of the heart here.
04:04I want some kimchi done.
04:06And I'm going to get the bindae...
04:09Dau?
04:10Dau.
04:10Dauk.
04:11Oh, bindae dauk.
04:12Bindae dauk starts with washed, soaked, and husked mung beans.
04:16The beans, right into this grinder, it comes down.
04:18It becomes this kind of batter...
04:20That are ground with water and seasoned with salt to make a batter from there
04:24They can add vegetables or meat and fry that sucker up. Oh god. Look at it
04:29It's so big and greasy and oily the cow heart and the savory kimchi pancake is battered and fried like most other items here simple
04:38Straightforward and delicious. Holy crap. What good timing guys. We came here
04:42We dropped by just as they toss in a bunch of new on. Oh, sorry a bunch of new now
04:46Do you guys calm down? You're probably stressed out this right here. It's like a whole fried meal
04:50We're gonna start with this. I'm gonna work my way up to the heart. This looks super tasty
04:54This is like Korean comfort food on a cold day. Look at that. It's steamy crispy
04:58It's full of beans and it looks a little soft on the inside, too. I'm gonna try it with no sauce first
05:07The taste of this is excellent. It's egging is super crunchy and then it's got a bunch of that like salty umami flavor
05:13There's probably some MSG maybe all right. Oh
05:16Wow, I'm gonna try it with a little bit of sauce here little sauce a little onion. Mm-hmm. Love it next
05:22We've got some kimchi John here this super common yummy street food here in Korea, and we're just gonna take it down
05:27I like this mm-hmm right ready actually not a ton of kimchi flavor in there
05:31But a hint of sourness from the kimchi, which is a flavor. I really love oh, and there's kind of an a post
05:37Spiciness that hits your throat. It's like a loving spiciness sliced fried beef heart with some breading there and try that out, too
05:46Mmm a little chewy, but in that fun organ-y way very yummy all this is fantastic
05:52It's just a bunch of Korean comfort food just fried
05:55delicious over-the-top yumminess
05:58Sundays at this market mean packed food stalls and even a little recreational drinking they gave me some makgeolli
06:04Makgeolli this is Korean rice wine in here come bay
06:09One shot
06:21I see this place right up here. This is something that used to freak me out that I never got to try in Korea for years
06:26I lived in Seoul passing this beauty in the streets much like asking the popular girl to prom
06:32I always intended to try but never had the courage to until now look at that the frickin nose of a pig and then she's got these big
06:39Sausages, I'm pretty sure these are like a blood sausage
06:45Yes, Sunday is a type of blood sausage and a pretty common street food in Seoul stuffed with rice blood
06:52minced meat and maybe even some veggies if we're lucky look I asked for a little bit of sausage look how much they gave me
07:03I can't believe like years and years ago
07:05I was afraid every time I saw that big nose looking at me it would really freak me out today
07:09I'm just jumping in and like this little girl. She's gonna try it out wow
07:13You could be a YouTube star. She's like yeah, heck yeah
07:15I eat some pig face so she can do it. Why couldn't I and why couldn't any of you? You know what I mean?
07:19So we've got like a shrimp sauce here that goes with the pig
07:23I don't know what to call it except for a pig face. There's probably a good Korean word for it. Let's try it out
07:27If you look at it, it is super fatty like that this pig had a fatter head than me. We're gonna dip it into this sauce. Let's go for it
07:38It's really good
07:40Oh
07:44She's showing me how to eat. She's like yo layer it up
07:46You got to put some kimchi a tiny bit of sauce and we're gonna put it all together. Mmm. That's a lot of food the texture
07:52It's a bit fatty. It's a little bit of meat when you put it with the spiciness and the salt from the sauce like the flavors
07:58Undeniable that's really surprising. I'm super glad I tried that out today and then we're jumping into the sundae right here
08:04It smells like a bunch of ground-up organ meat. It's a bit intimidating. I'm gonna get a nice medium-sized piece here
08:09That's still a pretty big piece. I'm gonna put a little salt on there. Let's try it out
08:19Wow, that's a mix of emotions. I like the head meat a little more. It's got like a mustiness to it
08:24I think you have to be drunk when you eat that. No offense
08:27No offense. It's got like this gelatinous texture mixed with chewy rice some meaty flavor
08:33But like the blood flavor is very present in there and I think it's wrapped with real intestine, which is a nice treat
08:38I'm gonna try one more. I really need to nail down this flavor profile
08:42It takes I'm getting used to it was yummy, but it was even more fun than it was yummy. You know what I mean?
08:55Ancheon are small side dishes that might accompany any type of Korean meal. I recognize some of these here
09:01This is myelchi and I believe this is spicy chewy squid the peanut one right here
09:06It's more like a sweet bean with almost like a molasses around it
09:09Here you can buy them in bulk and even do some taste testing before committing
09:13We're about to try out an entire tiny little crab. Oh, that's a good crunch
09:17It kind of breaks apart very easily very brittle. Manchan can include kimchi, dried squid, basically anything you see here
09:24One of my favorite things here is the spicy ojingo spicy squid. Bam
09:29Try it out
09:31Really good little spicy little fishy and has a great chewiness to it. I love that one. Wow guys
09:36They gave us these little yogurt and it really cleanses the palate after you take down an entire crab
09:42And we're gonna try it one more thing here. This is called
09:44It's a root vegetable putting it in my mouth
09:47It's like an old carrot smothered with salty gochujang sauce like red pepper paste
09:54Basically everything here has kind of a powerful taste. It's really like well-preserved salty a lot of intense flavors coming from a place like this
10:05They have so many different food items here
10:06So they have pig skin and chicken feed
10:08Korea makes the best chicken feed deboned so they're super easy to eat and just like the pig skin
10:14They're both coated in a layer of spicy red chili paste
10:24Oh, that's really awkward and friendly. This is some thick chop chae yo the t-h-i-c-c thick chop chae up in here
10:30Chop chae are slicked up glass noodles coated in sesame oil
10:35Usually with some woodier mushroom and other veggies tossed in and then we have a kimchi mandu here
10:40And I believe a gogi mandu as well mandu is the korean word for dumpling and when it comes to street food
10:46You'll always find the pinkish kimchi variety and gogi or meat dumplings as well
10:52Let's just order all that and spend a bunch of money guys
10:54As a bonus the owner throws me a glass of shikhae basically a korean horchata and a couple rice cakes, too
11:00We got our first our mandu
11:01We're gonna eat that with some soy sauce here got some onion with it
11:05I mean guys, I think after this i've eaten almost everything in this market
11:09Mmm, really yummy meaty chewy savoring kind of a classic dumpling i'm gonna put the kimchi in
11:16Little tangy some sour kind of grilled kimchi flavor. We chase that with an onion. Oh, yeah, baby
11:21I'm gonna jump right into the chop chae look at the beauty that is a super common side dish with korean food try it out
11:27Mmm, this one's really peppery
11:32It's the most peppery chop chae i've ever had but I like it and then a lot of sesame oil, too
11:36So it's oily and it gives it some smoky flavor to it moving on if you take a look here
11:40This is like our spicy platter with the duck boke here
11:44We've got these boneless kind of shredded chicken feet
11:47So when you look at it now, it just kind of looks like a glove and then here squares of this pork skin called gupteki
11:53I'm gonna start with some pork skin
11:59I love that and that's even better with alcohol i'll tell you that it's really chewy gelatinous spicy
12:04She already shoved one of these in my mouth, but i'm gonna try it one more chicken feet
12:08It's good. She's like massaging them right now if you're gonna have chicken feet
12:11This is the way to start out with it because it hardly even looks like a foot anymore and it's boneless
12:15So it's really easy to eat and then we're gonna finish it off with one of these fat duck bokis they got here
12:19You can see inside that white rice cake great robust chewy texture and a bunch of spice on the outside
12:26And we wash it all down with some shikage. That's very nice. Mm cool and refreshing
12:43We've come to this lady's kiosk here. She's just selling basically tons of different types of seaweed
12:47It's like the seaweed you'd see on the outside of kimbap. That's why kim is like seaweed
12:54Very good the best cheers
13:01Mmm yummy salty crunchy a little bit of seafood flavor in there. That's a brand if you're in the market for seaweed
13:08I mean that one is pretty good if you can read that
13:10Oh
13:14Listen, we've had almost every food that this market has to offer and oh
13:19Hi
13:19Chapsal
13:20Young noodle boil, you know
13:24Rice cake
13:25Oh, she knows you got much sir. Yeah, okay. Thank you
13:32You can see here she's making it by grabbing a huge chunk of dough
13:36She throws in the sesame seeds the sugar she's showing me on this little spoon right here
13:40And then she's gonna drop it right onto this hot oil the most impressive part
13:43She's flipping it and then pressing it this adds to the unique shape of this food
13:47So she's gonna fold it over put it into the cup and then oh
13:51Yeah, two cups
13:53Wow guys what a nice dessert for what a buck and a half about and you can see it's doughy
14:03It's fried donut in a cup basically with tons of delicious filling sesame seed brown sugar. It's all gooey likely
14:11I will burn my face off upon putting this in my mouth hole, but let's see what happens
14:14It's so good undeniable it's so doughy
14:22It's just like a bunch of fried dough with some sweetness on the inside you can see it's crustified crispy crunchy on the outside
14:29And then super doughy on the inside next time you come to the market and you eat 15 different foods and your day with a sweet doughy korean donut
14:36Just like this
