00:00A woman on Reddit shared a scary experience where she felt unsafe even though she was in a crowded public place.
00:07She claimed that a man at a Delhi metro station asked her for directions.
00:11After she gave him the directions, he started following her.
00:15So he asked to sit next to her where there was barely any space and he asked for water and he just kept trailing around her.
00:23She had to make a fake phone call just to make him stop.
00:26So I'm curious to know from each one of you, have you ever had this experience where you felt unsafe being in a public place?
00:33So it happened with me when I was travelling from Gurgaon to Noida.
00:38I had booked a cab and this guy came.
00:42After like 10 minutes, I observed that he's not using the map and kind of saw him turning to a wrong way.
00:50That was a narrow lane and the place was totally stranded.
00:54And I saw him looking at the side mirror like some vehicle is kind of following our cab.
01:00He is in touch with that person.
01:02I felt very scared and right away I asked him to stop the cab.
01:06And then I actually saw that vehicle stopping nearby.
01:10I sat in the cab and it was around 7 or 8 pm and I was going from Noida to Delhi.
01:16And the cab driver, he called someone but then he, similarly he was not using the map.
01:22And he kept asking me questions like, ma'am where do you live?
01:26And do you live with your family?
01:28And then he stopped at a petrol pump and he got out of the car and he started speaking in some other language.
01:34But I could still make out a few things that he was saying and he was basically telling someone,
01:40He told him a location that was close to my place and it was a construction site because there's a metro being constructed there.
01:48So I got very scared and I thought I have to get down before this point arrives.
01:52So I was returning from Noida to Delhi and I was taking the expressway and the auto took the service lane.
02:00So after some time, he was constantly only taking the service lane, even though there were cuts to go to the main one.
02:06And after a few minutes, I see him video call somebody and the angle of his phone was right above his shoulder,
02:13which we usually don't do. And I was visible. I was like, I asked the auto driver, what are you doing?
02:19He's like, no, no, no, no, no, madam, we are watching for Dawai.
02:22I said, you need to do the phone for Dawai.
02:25And then he put his phone down a little. The video was still on and he was constantly taking the service lane and it was getting darker.
02:33And then I literally shouted at him and I said, listen, I will either get down or you take the main road.
02:38Next cut, take the main road. I'm not going on the service lane.
02:41According to a 2023 survey, 88% of women in Delhi have faced harassment on public transport,
02:48like staring, touching and e-teasing, yet only one person reported.
02:52Most incidents go unreported due to normalization or lack of visible support.
