00:00I saw the movie and at first I didn't realize it was you with the glasses and
00:04the mustache. How did the physical traits inform your portrayal of the character?
00:08You have to always credit wardrobe and makeup and hair because as they show you
00:14various pants and shirts and coats and stuff you start they help you discover
00:19the character and I knew I wanted to white out my hair and I grew my mustache
00:24bushy and I said well it's got a lot of gray in it but wipe that out and it
00:28wasn't until I put on the glasses where I said oh my god I'm Geppetto. It was a
00:34shock but it was too late to go back and Tom Hanks already got that part so that
00:39ship has sailed. That's pretty impressive though that was your real mustache?
00:42Yeah yeah and and my real hair so I love when you look in the mirror and you
00:50don't see yourself anymore you see the character that's when you know you're
00:54getting close. It's such a hopeful and inspiring film and it's coming out at a
00:59time when it can sometimes feel like the world is actually ending. It's perfect
01:04timing because we're so divided there's such anger and division in this country
01:09and this film is it's positively therapeutic I think. I certainly felt so
01:18much better about everything after seeing it so I hope I hope the word of mouth is
01:23strong because like I say you can't really say well it's about this and
01:28describe it in a in a way you usually would. The movie first premiered at TIFF
01:35over nine or almost nine months ago how does it feel that people finally get to
01:39see it in theaters? Was it that long ago? Oh my gosh. Well that was a revelation
01:44because I never I'd seen it once at Mike's house and it was just my wife and
01:49me and Mike and to see it with a full audience was just astonishing. They were
01:54with us from the get-go they laughed in all the right places there was scattered
01:59applause and when the lights came up at the end there were people with tears in
02:03their eyes. It was really powerful because you never know how people are
02:07going to perceive it. I hope there's I think it's going to have strong word of
02:11mouth fingers crossed. It's a tear-jerker do you would you suggest that people
02:16bring tissues and come prepared? Yeah well unexpectedly so I I don't know that
02:24they they're gonna use their sleeves. And Nick Offerman's voiceover plays such an
02:31important role in the film if you had to pick a celebrity to voiceover a movie
02:35about your life who would it be? Well Nick Offerman does such a great job. I just
02:41saw him oh in the credits to the Oscars it said announcer Nick Offerman. So he's
02:47working all the time and the voiceover community has been a godsend to me. I
02:53love them all. They're so comfortable in their own skin. They're so talented.
03:00there's no kind of there's not the kind of competition and rivalry and I'm just
03:07astonished at how talented they are because they come out of the world of
03:11stand-up and improv groundlings and Second City. I've been at sessions that
03:18where I've laughed so hard I feel like I owe them a cover charge. It's that
03:22entertaining. And you recently said that you're stepping away from the Star Wars
03:26universe. You've had your time in it. What went into making that decision?
03:29Well it's just natural. I mean one era ended and a whole new era began. In fact
03:36they've produced more original content since I finished then in all six films
03:43that I was in. But and it's great stuff. I mean I loved Rogue One and
03:50Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett. My son said dad you gotta watch Andor. So
03:55that's on my to-do list.
04:01you
