Ukraine, Russia Agree to Prisoner Exchange, But No Ceasefire

Ukrainian and Russian negotiators in Istanbul agreed to exchange thousands of sick, wounded and young prisoners of war, as well as the bodies of 6,000 soldiers who were killed in action. However, the two sides failed to make progress on a ceasefire agreement.

00:00Russia and Ukraine have failed to reach a ceasefire agreement, but they have agreed to exchange thousands of prisoners.

00:07On release of prisoners of war, we agreed to focus on specific categories rather than numbers.

00:14We agreed to exchange all for all, seriously wounded and seriously sick prisoners of war.

00:22At peace talks in Istanbul, the two sides also agreed to exchange all prisoners of war under the age of 25,

00:28as well as return the bodies of 6,000 soldiers killed in action.

00:33But on the question of a ceasefire, the two sides made little progress.

00:38The U.S. has called on both Russia and Ukraine to continue negotiations.

00:42This war has been brutal from both sides. Too many people have died.

00:47And the president wants this war to end at the negotiating table, and he's made that very clear.

00:53The talks come after a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack,

00:56which Kyiv says damaged or destroyed at least 40 Russian aircraft.
