00:00Good afternoon, my name is Phil Hewitt, group arts editor at WC6 Newspapers and also chairman
00:07of the Festival of Chichester, which is why it's particularly pleasing that Emily has
00:11joined. Emily Barton has joined this year's Festival of Chichester for two really appealing
00:16sounding gigs for all sorts of reasons in the Novium June 26th, June 27th, by Candlelight
00:23it's the new album and what a place to play. Yes, I'm really excited and thank you so much
00:30for the festival making a venue like the Novium available to put on some Candlelit concerts,
00:37we're doing two dates, it'll be the same event twice because obviously it's such an intimate
00:41space, we've got 60 seats on the 26th and then 60 seats on the 27th and we're very hopeful
00:48that we will fill it with people to perform this new album for.
00:52And the venue obviously shapes the gig doesn't it to an extent, what can the venue do that
00:58will work on your favour, especially when you're interested in this?
01:02Well it's an experiment, I mean that's also exciting, it's something new for me, I've never
01:07performed there before, I really enjoy the thought of playing amongst the artefacts of something
01:14incredibly old and ancient that contain all of the stories and the history and who knows
01:20what those streets underneath Chichester, who knows what they've seen and who's trodden
01:25on them and what stories they've got and all my songwriting is generated through story and
01:30narrative and so I like the idea of being in a space, sharing stories that come from me
01:36sort of on top of the stories of Chichester. I think it will be a slightly magical feel with the candle lit,
01:45it'll be dark and shadowy and it'll feel like you've slept away from hopefully sunny bright Chichester
01:52on a summer evening and come into this little world where we can just share some acoustic music
01:58together it'll be an intimate performance. It sounds lovely and focusing on your most recent album
02:04late last year. Absolutely, it will be majority of the material I'm performing will be from Vapor Trails
02:11which yeah was released last October and I've been gigging it in varying different places and I've got
02:17a few gigs this summer where I'll be showcasing it. I'll put in a couple of choice covers of songs that
02:24influenced me or by artists that I particularly like and also I've written some stuff since the
02:30album because you just don't stop do you so I will be adding some more recent things in so
02:35hopefully there'll be something brand new for everybody who comes to watch it. It sounds super
02:41brilliant, well lovely to speak to you again Emily, fantastic that you're part of the festival,
02:46want you in it every single year. I must just say that also we're going to be running a bar
02:50so if anybody's worried that it's a venue that doesn't feel like a normal sort of musical venue
02:57do not panic you'll still be able to get a glass of wine or a beer and come and watch with that in
03:02your hand. It sounds perfect, hopefully it goes brilliantly, thank you.
