At a South Carolina Democratic Party event on Friday, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) spoke about the need for Democrats to move beyond a seven swing state strategy to win the presidential election.

00:00And across the country, as you heard it, I got a little chance because of being on a ticket, which I'm just going to name.
00:11We had an opportunity last November to elect the most qualified person who's run for president in this country.
00:16And we blew it. We didn't get it done.
00:21We had a visionary, compassionate, kind, and effective leader that we had a chance to elect.
00:28But what we know is, is that you've got to get out there and we've got to do the work for it.
00:32We've got to make the case that we can talk to the American public and get it done.
00:37But I'm telling you, we have got to get it out of our heads that we can win the presidential election in seven swing states.
00:46We have got to get that out of our head.
00:48It is shrinking our impact.
00:50And more importantly than that, it's leaving the people behind who most need us to win elections so that we can improve their lives.
00:59So whether it's South Carolina or Texas or Florida or South Dakota, we need to take our message to those folks.
01:08Because right now, it's in those places especially that people are hurting.
01:14States that didn't expand Medicaid.
01:16States that, states surrounding me that turned down summer food nutrition programs for their students because they said the kids are too heavy as it is.
01:30That's spoken like someone who never understood what it means to see your kids not get enough to eat.
01:36That's spoken by someone who truly doesn't care.
01:39I'm pretty sure it was probably spoken by someone who sure goes to the front pew on Sundays, but they're not willing to be there when it's time.
01:46And by the way, Pastor, I got to tell you, I'm Norwegian Lutheran.
01:52We need more of that fire we heard up here.
01:56I would go to services more.
01:58I'm telling you if we did that.
