00:02:49I wonder what's wrong, Gramps.
00:02:52Well, it's probably something up ahead.
00:02:54I hope he doesn't hold us up too long.
00:02:59If you leave that crazy car in the middle of the road, you're going to get it banged up.
00:03:23You're driving too fast, aren't you, lady?
00:03:27Wake up, Joe.
00:03:28I think our luck's run out.
00:03:31I'm not sleeping, baby.
00:03:33I'm just too much of a coward to keep my eyes open when you're driving.
00:03:36Dig?
00:03:38You know, you're going to lose your license.
00:03:40Lady, just pull your car over there and turn out your lights.
00:03:43I'm both of you standing.
00:03:49Hey, you!
00:03:50Get the flares out of my car and light them.
00:03:52They're in the back of the front seat.
00:03:54Put one over there.
00:03:55The one down there to turn off my light.

00:04:45Been an accident?
00:04:53Not that I know of.
00:05:08Some kind of roadblock?
00:05:09I don't know.
00:05:11The deputy stopped us.
00:05:13Told me to put these players out.
00:05:14Pull your truck behind the pickup.
00:05:18Hear me?
00:05:19Move your truck behind the pickup.
00:05:23Better do like the man says.
00:05:26Okay.
00:05:39Never fail.
00:05:41I got a date with a beautiful redhead in Sacramento,
00:05:43and I get held up on a row by some Mickey Mouse cop.
00:05:46No wonder I'm having trouble getting married.
00:05:48I'm on a grade here.
00:05:52I'd better put some blocks underneath the wheels.
00:05:54Give me a hand, will you?
00:05:56I'm on a grade here.
00:06:04I'd better put some blocks underneath the wheels.
00:06:12Give me a hand, will you?
00:06:13You were across the middle of the road and coming around the turn.
00:06:33I was only going 65 miles an hour.
00:06:35That's the speed limit.
00:06:37Lady, the law reads 65 miles an hour within the limits of safety.
00:06:41You were overdriving.
00:06:42But it's four in the morning.
00:06:43You were overdriving.
00:06:45These cars are dangerous day or night.
00:06:47Forget it.
00:06:48Don't argue.
00:06:50Now, what'd you do with my cigarette?
00:06:53What's the trouble here, huh?
00:06:55This is a roadblock.
00:06:57No cars that'll proceed beyond this point in either direction.
00:07:00How long, pops?
00:07:01Until I'm instructed to remove the roadblock.
00:07:06Well, now, isn't that considerate?
00:07:09Look, baby, don't let it bug you.
00:07:10Now, it isn't going to last forever.
00:07:12Look, I like it here.
00:07:14Well, then we got it made.
00:07:16Oh, look, you got it made.
00:07:18You won the money and I won this kooky traffic ticket.
00:07:21You know, this one's going to cost me my license.
00:07:23Look, baby, how often do you get a chance to make a killing like this?
00:07:26One hundred and seventy-five thousand dollars.
00:07:30Now, let this badge happy cat bug you.
00:07:32I'll buy you a ticket back.
00:07:34Look, I'll even buy you his badge.
00:07:37I, uh, I put those flares where you said.
00:07:41All units.
00:07:42Confirming 13.05.
00:07:44It's a button-up.

00:07:51At 13.05, repeat, at 13.05.
00:07:5510-4-0.
00:07:56I think someone's coming now, Sam.
00:08:01Can you make out who it is?
00:08:03It's a police officer.
00:08:04Guess there's been some kind of accident.
00:08:10Officer, is there an accident?
00:08:12Is that what the flares are for?
00:08:14Pull your car behind that convertible, please.
00:08:16Yes, sir.
00:08:17Any idea how long we'll be delayed?
00:08:19No, just pull your car over there.
00:08:21Oh, if it's not too long.
00:08:23Pull your car over there.
00:08:24Turn out your lights, and come up and join the group.
00:08:28Sure.
00:08:35All right, group around here.
00:08:37I want to talk to you.
00:08:38I'm Dan Colter, deputy sheriff in Del Oro County.
00:08:51I know it seems strange if he stopped here at 4 o'clock in the morning, but the explanation's coming.
00:08:56First, let's have your name.
00:08:57My name's Sam Barnes.
00:09:00This is my wife, Karen.
00:09:02We're from Tahoe City.
00:09:04This is Timmy.
00:09:05Hiya, Timmy.
00:09:07Meet Cheryl Hudson from San Francisco.
00:09:10Joe Baragi, North Beach.
00:09:13Crazy.
00:09:13The name's Al Weston.
00:09:17Look, I got an important date tonight.
00:09:19How about you, Dad?
00:09:21Jacob Elliot Saunders.
00:09:23Lived around here all my life.
00:09:25Everybody just calls me Jake.
00:09:27I wish he'd tell us what this is all about.
00:09:29I'm anxious to leave.
00:09:31If we missed that plane after all the trouble we had getting reservations.
00:09:34All right, folks.
00:09:35There's one thing more.
00:09:37It may become necessary for me to...
00:09:38Just a minute, Jake.
00:09:40Well, I'm going over to the truck to get my granddaughter.
00:09:43I don't think she ought to be over there alone.
00:09:46All right, is there anybody else in these cars?
00:09:49I got a kid in the cab of my truck.
00:09:50Some hitchhiker I picked up in Reno.
00:09:52Why didn't he get out of the truck?
00:09:53Beats me.
00:09:57We aren't going to be able to leave here for a while, honey.
00:10:00Gramps, there's something wrong, isn't there?
00:10:02Well, he hasn't told us yet.
00:10:04He hasn't told you anything?
00:10:06Everything is going to be all right.
00:10:08Has he told you anything?
00:10:09Now, June, honey, everything's going to be all right.
00:10:12I promise you.
00:10:13Gramps, are you ever going to stop treating me like a child?
00:10:16Oh, I don't mean nothing.
00:10:18Sometimes I think of you that way.
00:10:20I raised you, raised your mother.
00:10:23Maybe I don't want you to grow up.
00:10:27Oh, Gramps, I do love you.
00:10:39Hey, you're in the cab.
00:10:43Come on down out of there.
00:10:45Delaney!
00:10:58Gramp them!
00:10:58Hey, are you okay?
00:11:09Hey, are you okay?
00:11:28He dropped his suitcase.
00:11:30Hey, Judy, are you all right?
00:11:31For a minute, I thought he...
00:11:32No, no, no, I'm all right, Gramps, I'm all right.
00:11:33He's a maniac.
00:11:34See the way he attacked me?
00:11:36You're lucky he didn't use that knife on you.
00:11:38So that's what the roadblock was for, a stakeout.
00:11:41Why didn't he tell us?
00:11:42Well, maybe he thought you were the one he was looking for.
00:11:44No, he knew the boy by name.
00:11:48You okay?
00:11:49Yes, he never came near me, but you sure had a close call.
00:11:52You never can tell what you're going to run into at 4 o'clock in the morning.
00:11:55I'm worried about Timmy.
00:11:56Timmy?
00:11:57Yes.
00:11:58Oh, you mean your dog?
00:11:59Yes, he went right in after that fella.
00:12:01A regular bloodhound.
00:12:03Oh, here he comes now.
00:12:08Well, I guess that's that.
00:12:14Come on, Karen, we can go.
00:12:15Yeah, I guess you can.
00:12:16Coming, Sam.
00:12:17Have a nice trip.
00:12:18Thank you, and you be careful who you pick up next time.
00:12:21Where are you going?
00:12:24Well, I'm just going to go after that.
00:12:25Come on, back here.
00:12:26What for?
00:12:28I'm hip.
00:12:29The roadblock was set up for the kid, and you goofed it.
00:12:31So now you're running around playing Wyatt Earp.
00:12:34That's cool, man.
00:12:35But we don't have to play, too.
00:12:37Who was that guy?
00:12:38Clint Delaney.
00:12:39Nice kid.
00:12:41Six months ago, he killed a young girl.
00:12:43I remember reading about that.
00:12:45He stabbed that Ramsey girl to death.
00:12:48You sure he's responsible for a couple other killings, too?
00:12:51He's so frightened.
00:12:53His old man's dying of cancer at a county hospital.
00:12:56Show you how sick he is.
00:12:58Know what he did?
00:12:59Writes his old man a letter and tells him not to die till he gets there.
00:13:03Says he wants to watch him suffer.
00:13:04Wow, that guy was riding next to me with that knife for the last two hours.
00:13:08All units.
00:13:09All units.
00:13:10Situation 1310.

00:13:28All right.
00:13:29We're in a state of emergency.
00:13:31This is a yellow alert.
00:13:32An air raid warning.
00:13:33We're being attacked.
00:13:34We can't say.
00:13:35I tell you, we're being attacked.
00:13:36How do you know?
00:13:37The man didn't say anything about being attacked.
00:13:39Don't you understand what a yellow alert is?
00:13:41Well, what is it?
00:13:42It means we're in a state of emergency.
00:13:44I still don't say.
00:13:45I tell you, we're under attack.
00:13:47We've got to get to the nearest shelter.
00:13:48There must be one in the city.
00:13:49Come on, Joe.
00:13:50Let's get out of here.
00:13:51Nobody's going anywhere.
00:13:52That's why I stopped you.
00:13:54Look, man.
00:13:54Can't you get on that thing and ask them what's going on?
00:13:57They'll tell us as soon as they know.
00:13:59What about Conrad?
00:14:00Maybe they know what's going on.
00:14:10What's the matter?
00:14:11Can't you find it?
00:14:11Wait a minute.
00:14:12What are you doing?
00:14:12It's right over here in this 640.
00:14:16Crazy.
00:14:16It's fucked up.
00:14:17No, it isn't.
00:14:18It's working, baby.
00:14:19I just can't get Conrad with all the scribing interference.
00:14:23You're wasting your time.
00:14:24There's no regular radio reception in these mountains.
00:14:28There's too many minerals here.
00:14:30Well, how are we going to know what's happening?
00:14:32They're liable to be attacking any minute.
00:14:36Get out of those cars.
00:14:38I said, get out of those cars and bring your keys.
00:14:44Now.
00:14:45The radios are no good on this ridge.
00:15:04Only contact is the receiver in my car.
00:15:07All units.
00:15:08All units.
00:15:09Situation 1310.
00:15:11Condition red.
00:15:12Evacuation.
00:15:13Evacuation.
00:15:14Operation scatter.
00:15:15This is not a test.
00:15:181310.
00:15:19Situation red.
00:15:20All highways out of population centers to be cleared for evacuation operation scatter.
00:15:26All officers have full authority to deal with local problems.
00:15:29Did you hear that?
00:15:30They're evacuating the city.
00:15:31That's right.
00:15:33That's why I stopped you.
00:15:34And you're going to stay here.
00:15:36Every road from every population center is going to be jammed with thousands of automobiles,
00:15:41cars, trucks, buses.
00:15:43Every road jammed.
00:15:44Wow, baby.
00:15:45Do you realize if we'd have kept going, we'd have ran smack into that grabbing mess?
00:15:50And to stop you from adding to the congestion, my order is going to keep you here.
00:15:53I can just see what's going on down there.
00:15:55God help the Sunday drivers.
00:15:56Imagine the panic.
00:15:57All of them trying to run.
00:15:59What if someone stalls?
00:16:00As soon as somebody stalls, about 15 cats are going to get out of their cars and they're
00:16:04just going to push them right off the road, man.
00:16:06But in the meantime, the roads will be backed up for miles.
00:16:09This means we're not going to get to Mexico City.
00:16:10This is on a level.
00:16:11It won't be very long before there'll be things flying around a little bit more important
00:16:15than a plane to Mexico City.
00:16:17I just can't believe it.
00:16:18Well, you better believe it.
00:16:19How about that?
00:16:20I could have been driving along the highway and bam, the end of the world.
00:16:24Well, at least I've got some company here.
00:16:26The end of the world?
00:16:27Could be.
00:16:28It doesn't seem possible.
00:16:30That's because people have been talking about it for so long.
00:16:33What are we going to do?
00:16:34I'll tell you what you're going to do.
00:16:36You're going to take it easy and proceed according to plans.
00:16:39Plans?
00:16:40You got it all worked out, Pop?
00:16:42It's all worked out.
00:16:43You got it worked out for a situation like this?
00:16:46Eight people on a mountain road?
00:16:48That's right.
00:16:49What do you got in the back of your heap, man?
00:16:51A collapsible bomb shelter?
00:16:53Attention all control points.
00:16:54All military, all civil defense units.
00:16:57Operations scatter must not slow down.
00:16:59Traffic stoppages on river freeway must be cleared.
00:17:03Execute severest measures to control hysteria and keep traffic flowing.
00:17:08Martial law, emphasize martial law.
00:17:12Sam, I want to go home.
00:17:13I don't want to stay here.
00:17:14Yeah, let's get in the car.
00:17:15You just heard the radio.
00:17:15Every road is jammed.
00:17:16Where are you going to go?
00:17:17I don't know, but I'm going to go someplace.
00:17:20Crazy, man.
00:17:22You know, I'll bet the cats are still rolling dice up at the state mine.
00:17:26How can you talk like that?
00:17:28We're being attacked.
00:17:29The whole country could be destroyed in the next few hours.
00:17:31And all you can do is talk about dice.
00:17:33This thing is on the level.
00:17:35What do you want me to do?
00:17:36Go out and fight the war myself?
00:17:38All right, that's enough.
00:17:40I'm warning all of you.
00:17:42If I have to use force to keep order here, I will.
00:17:45You're not helping matters anybody arguing.
00:17:47Isn't the Dalton grade up ahead?
00:17:49That's right.
00:17:49It's just up the road.
00:17:51We're 35 miles from the city.
00:17:54And 25 miles that way is Western Air Defense Command Headquarters.
00:17:57And 15 that way is Ramco.
00:18:00Ramco?
00:18:01A missile fuel refinery.
00:18:03But we're in a prime target area.
00:18:06One bomb would...
00:18:08You know what I think?
00:18:10I think you and you and you and me are sitting ducks on ground zero.
00:18:14Do you mean we're sitting on a target?
00:18:16Right smack in the full zone.
00:18:20Well, let's get out of here.
00:18:21What are you keeping us for if this is ground zero?
00:18:24Where are you going to go?
00:18:25We're safer here than we would be in a city.
00:18:28Lucky I stopped you.
00:18:29Any idea what it's like back there?
00:18:32People get pretty panicky.
00:18:33I'll bet they're scratching and fighting their way out.
00:18:35There's a plan to control it.
00:18:37For a man, you talk pretty loud.
00:18:40Joe, where did I put that set?
00:18:43Wait a minute.
00:18:44There ain't no drink in here.
00:18:45I can't find it, Joe.
00:18:51Get out of that car.
00:18:53Here it is.
00:18:55Okay.
00:18:55Just stay in the car a minute, baby.
00:19:03Now, if I remember correctly, there's a bar right back down the road.
00:19:06You're not going anyplace.
00:19:09What's the matter?
00:19:10Can't you hear?
00:19:10I said you're not going anywhere.
00:19:12Look, man.
00:19:13If the world's coming to an end and me and my chick one-ended standing in front of a bar,
00:19:17that's none of your business.
00:19:18I told you before, and I mean it.
00:19:37I'll use force to keep order.
00:19:40You ought to take it easy.
00:19:41Who knows how much time we have left?
00:19:44Seems a shame to waste it getting mad at each other.
00:19:46Wait a minute.
00:19:47Did you have to hit him?
00:19:48Look, maybe it's my fault for mentioning Ground Zero.
00:19:51I was just talking because I ain't no general.
00:19:53That's pretty logical thinking.
00:19:55We all know that first action will be to knock out the country's ability to resist.
00:20:00First thing will be a white light that'll blind us.
00:20:01Then a hot flame that'll burn out.
00:20:03Take it easy.
00:20:03But that's not all.
00:20:04Even the air you breathe will be deadly.
00:20:06Everything you touch will give off radiation.
00:20:08Ever hear of Hiroshima?
00:20:09And you won't hear it.
00:20:11It'll happen suddenly.
00:20:12There'll be no warning.
00:20:13There'll be some chance, Gramps.
00:20:15Some of us will make it.
00:20:16We'll make it.
00:20:18Oh, man.
00:20:19That's a laugh.
00:20:20We'll make it just because you say so, huh?
00:20:23What are you going to do, Pops?
00:20:25Dig eight foxholes over in the side of that mountain?
00:20:28Do you realize the radius, the area of destruction from the explosion of one hydrogen bomb?
00:20:32It's too late to run.
00:20:34People survived Hiroshima.
00:20:36We can survive this.
00:20:38We can't do with you yelling your head off.
00:20:40What do you want us to do?
00:20:41Now you're thinking.
00:20:42What do you want us to do, Colter?
00:20:44Empty that truck.
00:20:46What?
00:20:47You heard me.
00:20:48All of you.
00:20:49Empty that truck.
00:20:50We get inside, it might protect us.
00:20:52Gramps, I don't want to be locked up inside of that truck.
00:20:55Do you realize how long we'll have to stay inside?
00:20:58It's going to be about two weeks.
00:20:59That's right.
00:21:00The radiation will be deadly.
00:21:02Do you really think we could stand a blast in the truck?
00:21:04You got a better idea?
00:21:06Yeah.
00:21:06Let's get the hell out of here.
00:21:07There's no place to go.
00:21:09Now let's get over there and get that truck unloaded.
00:21:14You better go with him, honey.
00:21:16Well, what about you?
00:21:17I'm just going to stay here and watch you cats work.
00:21:20Go ahead or he's going to have us both handcuffed.
00:21:24No, no.
00:21:25Go ahead, honey.
00:21:26What's the matter?
00:21:39Well, what am I going to do with the stuff inside?
00:21:41It's worth a lot of money.
00:21:42Oh, what?
00:21:56I don't want to go in that truck, Gramps.
00:22:04Junie, I'll be there with you.
00:22:06You won't be alone.
00:22:07Do we have to go in that truck?
00:22:09We have to do what the man says.
00:22:11I can't stand the thought of being all locked up.
00:22:13Junie, we've got to learn to accept things as they come.
00:22:16Right now, our only chance of surviving is to do what the man says.
00:22:20I won't be able to stand it, Gramps.
00:22:22I'm not going to go in there.
00:22:26I won't be able to stand it.
00:22:56I won't be able to stand it.
00:22:57I won't be able to stand it.
00:23:11Hello?
00:23:13Hello.
00:23:17How are you?
00:23:22I'm all right.
00:23:26I need my suitcase.
00:23:28I can't leave without my suitcase.
00:23:34Scared?
00:23:36Maybe.
00:23:37A little.
00:23:40Don't try to run away.
00:23:43I want to talk to you.
00:23:47Your face is all scratched.
00:23:49Does it hurt?
00:23:51No, it doesn't hurt.
00:23:52Where's my suitcase?
00:23:57Do you know what's happening?
00:24:00We're being attacked.
00:24:03It's a yellow alert.
00:24:05We're going to be bombed.
00:24:06You had my suitcase.
00:24:07Why didn't you bring it?
00:24:09Don't you understand?
00:24:11We're all going to die.
00:24:15No, they will.
00:24:17But you won't.
00:24:18You were nice to me.
00:24:20Junie!
00:24:23Is your name Junie?
00:24:26My name's Clint.
00:24:29Clint?
00:24:30That's right, Clint.
00:24:32Jun, are you up there?
00:24:34Don't let him come up here.
00:24:35He's not after you.
00:24:39None of them were ever nice to me.
00:24:43You were nice to me.
00:24:48Jun, come on down.
00:24:50What do you want me to do?
00:24:51Jun!
00:24:53Let me talk to him.
00:24:58Don't let him come up here.
00:25:03I'm coming down, Gramps.
00:25:07Next time, bring my suitcase.
00:25:18Junie!
00:25:19Gramps, he was there.
00:25:28Who?
00:25:29The boy with the knife.
00:25:31Are you all right?
00:25:32Did he hurt you?
00:25:33No.
00:25:34He wanted his suitcase.
00:25:36He was there.
00:25:46This is an emergency.
00:25:48Let's just go over there and give us a hand.
00:25:52An emergency what?
00:25:53We're in a yellow alert.
00:25:54Subject to attack at any minute.
00:25:56What do you mean?
00:25:56Never mind the talk.
00:25:57Give me your keys.
00:25:58Now, get over there and help unload that truck.
00:26:05We're going to use it as a bomb shelter.
00:26:06Hey!
00:26:09Junie just ran into that clint.
00:26:11Where'd he go?
00:26:12He ran away.
00:26:14I don't want any of you people wondering at all.
00:26:18Get this truck unloaded.
00:26:19Who's attacking us?
00:26:26I don't know, but the warning's been coming over his radio.
00:26:30That means nuclear warfare.
00:26:32Are they sure it's coming here?
00:26:34Yes, they're sure.
00:26:35They're evacuating the city.
00:26:37Oh, God.
00:26:42Automobiles can't move us fast enough to get us out of the area of destruction.
00:26:46There's no place to run.
00:26:51No place.
00:26:54That truck is supposed to protect us from the blast?
00:26:56Well, he thinks so.
00:27:16You want to cooperate?
00:27:32Like this?
00:27:35Either you cooperate and we work together,
00:27:37or you're going to sit where you are.
00:27:39Joe, don't fight with him.
00:27:41Honey, I don't want to be alone.
00:27:42Do what he says.
00:27:43Well, how's it going to be?
00:27:49Yeah.
00:27:52Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:27:53Go ahead.
00:27:54How are you doing, honey?
00:28:14They're unloading the truck.
00:28:16It's just full of goodies.
00:28:18You know, there's a cookie-made coat over there,
00:28:20like the one I always wanted.
00:28:21Oh, yeah?
00:28:22Yeah.
00:28:24Hey, don't know that stuff near the wheels.
00:28:29We're going to have to move the truck.
00:28:31Put them over there.
00:28:34There it is.
00:28:40See, Joe?
00:28:41Wasn't that right?
00:28:43Don't be careful.
00:28:44Look what you did.
00:28:45Who's going to take inventory?
00:28:46Well, you've got a lot of valuable merchandise in this truck.
00:28:48Sam, please don't just stand there.
00:28:51Who do you think you're talking to?
00:28:59I'm talking to you, and don't glare at me.
00:29:01That's enough.
00:29:02No, it isn't.
00:29:03Shut up!
00:29:05Why don't you pitch in?
00:29:07You'd be surprised how much better you felt if you were busy.
00:29:09Come on up, honey.
00:29:16This is a real pirate stand.
00:29:18There's all kinds of loot.
00:29:20There are a couple of more coats in here.
00:29:22Latch on to one.
00:29:23You too, Pollyanna.
00:29:28Hey, man.
00:29:28You got something to open this one?
00:29:30It's Christmas at Macy's.
00:29:33Hey, man.
00:29:34You got something to open this one?
00:29:35Use your hands.
00:29:36I bought a meat coat for you.
00:29:44Are you sure to fit?
00:29:45Like a glove.
00:29:58A little incongruous, isn't it?
00:30:01A symbol of the joyous celebration of the Savior of man.
00:30:04I was looking forward to such a happy Christmas this year.
00:30:18Do you know that one of these big missiles launched from any place on Earth can strike a target with pinpoint accuracy in just 75 minutes?
00:30:28We got the first warning 20 minutes ago.
00:30:30God rest to him, Mary, gentlemen.
00:30:44Money means nothing when you're really interested.
00:30:48But we've only met, Mr. Weston.
00:30:50Call me Al.
00:30:51All right, Al.
00:30:53What do you want?
00:30:54A diamond tiara.
00:30:55Okay, here's a diamond tiara for you, princess.
00:31:03What else do you want?
00:31:04How about some caviar?
00:31:05Sure, there's a case around here somewhere.
00:31:08Caviar.
00:31:09Here we go.
00:31:12Imported the real thing.
00:31:13That's only the beginning, Karen.
00:31:16Nylons for every hour of the day.
00:31:19Al, they're size 14.
00:31:20What's the difference?
00:31:21What do I do with all these things?
00:31:23Put them out on the patio by the swimming pool.
00:31:28Anything you want, it's yours from Al.
00:31:31And no strings attached.
00:31:33I'll give you anything but a tomorrow.
00:31:35There's not going to be a tomorrow, is there?
00:31:37I don't know.
00:31:38I kind of like to think there is.
00:31:41It's too bad we can't cram everything we'd like to do into this truck.
00:31:45Yeah, we've got food, and we've got water, and...
00:31:50Yes.
00:31:58That is a compliment.
00:32:00Well, I mean it.
00:32:05This truck would be pretty interesting for them next 14 days.
00:32:09Yes.
00:32:11You too hungry?
00:32:19There's some food over here.
00:32:21Pete, how about giving me a hand?
00:32:23100 proof bourbon.
00:32:25Not bad.
00:32:27Seems you ought to have a drink.
00:32:28Joe!
00:32:29Joe!
00:32:30You're a regular St. Bernard.
00:32:32Well, don't you stand there.
00:32:35Rescue little old Cheryl.
00:32:36Well, I'm coming, baby.
00:32:38I'm coming, baby.
00:32:51Crazy.
00:32:52Well, alcohol kills all germs.
00:32:56So, just like that, you have 100 proof sake, ma'am.
00:33:01Rock the rock.
00:33:02I'm scared, Joe.
00:33:13I'm scared.
00:33:16How about that, Jazz?
00:33:19175,000 bucks.
00:33:23Doesn't that frost you?
00:33:25For the first time, we got independence.
00:33:28No more scamming and hustling, Dick.
00:33:32This is it, baby.
00:33:34A free ride to any place we want to go.
00:33:37Joe, what's going to happen?
00:33:39Nothing's going to happen.
00:33:41I don't want to die.
00:33:43You're not going to die.
00:33:45We're going to get out of this.
00:33:46No, we're not.
00:33:48Didn't I tell you I had a cool feeling?
00:33:50Everything was going to be groovy when I started the game.
00:33:52Well, everything's worked out up until now, hasn't it?
00:33:54This is different, Joe.
00:33:55No, it's not.
00:33:58The odds are longer, yeah.
00:34:00But this is a pretty big patch of ground.
00:34:05And I got a good feeling everything's going to be all right.
00:34:11I want to believe you.
00:34:15You've got to believe me, baby.
00:34:20I do, Joe.
00:34:21I do.
00:34:23I do.
00:34:24I do.
00:34:40What are you doing now, man?
00:34:43I said there'd be no drinking here, and I meant it.
00:34:47We're not going to have any drunks around here.
00:34:49Now let's get that truck unloaded.
00:34:51But we haven't got all night.
00:34:53What's the matter with you?
00:34:55We found some things in the truck that might be useful.
00:34:57Come over here and take a look.
00:35:04Yeah.
00:35:05Anything else?
00:35:07Yes.
00:35:07There's some cases of food.
00:35:08We got enough water?
00:35:21I got a full water bag on the front of my pickup truck.
00:35:24I got 20 gallons in a tank and pack of the cab.
00:35:26Two cases of canned grapefruit juice over there.
00:35:29Get awful thirsty in 14 days.
00:35:31We'll have to ration it.
00:35:32You can get thirsty in 14 minutes if you're scared enough.
00:35:34What's happening, Pop?
00:35:45We don't want to be litterbugs.
00:35:47You're kidding.
00:35:49Oh, we want to keep it clean for the...
00:35:52We're going to be litterbugs.
00:36:22Hold it!
00:36:35Get out of the way!
00:36:37Oh, I'm sorry.
00:36:38If you'd have kept out of the way, I'd have gotten them.
00:36:44Well, don't just stand there, Wyatt.
00:36:46Go get them!
00:36:46Are you kidding?
00:36:49Know how to have a shotgun?
00:36:50Yeah.
00:36:51Take this and get up there high enough so you can get a good view all around this area.
00:36:55That's the only way we're going to be able to finish here.
00:36:57Okay.
00:37:00If you see them, shoot them.
00:37:13All fire units. All fire units.
00:37:16Hey, Colter! There's something coming over on your radio!
00:37:19There you go!
00:37:21Units 19, 20, 35, 126, and 163 to rail marshalling yard.
00:37:26All fire units. All fire units.
00:37:28Officers, shoot all looters. Shoot all looters.
00:37:32If they were to hit the city from here, could we hear it? Could we see it?
00:37:33Take it easy.
00:37:34Oh, it won't happen. I don't believe it.
00:37:35Junie, where did I put the book?
00:37:38Behind the seat on your side. Can I get it for you, Grant?
00:37:39No, I'll get it myself.
00:37:40Joe, I want to take it.
00:37:41Joe, I want to take it.
00:37:42I want to take it.
00:37:43I want to take it.
00:37:44I want to take it.
00:37:45I want to take it.
00:37:46All units.
00:37:47All units.
00:37:48All units.
00:37:49If they were to hit the city from here, could we hear it?
00:37:50Could we see it?
00:37:51Take it easy.
00:37:52Oh, it won't happen.
00:37:53I don't believe it.
00:37:54Junie, where did I put the book?
00:37:55Can I get it for you, Grant?
00:37:56No, I'll get it myself.
00:38:09Joe, I want to thank you for your present.
00:38:12It's just what I wanted.
00:38:14Oh, wow, baby.
00:38:15That stuff really hit you, didn't it?
00:38:17No, I feel fine.
00:38:19You know, I'm not worried anymore.
00:38:21Not even a little bit.
00:38:23And I don't want you to worry either.
00:38:26You got another bottle, baby.
00:38:28Now I know you didn't get that stoned on what you had in there.
00:38:35Give me that.
00:38:36No, you don't.
00:38:37You heard what the cops said?
00:38:38No, you're not going to find out.
00:38:45She's still drinking.
00:38:47Well, why shouldn't she if it makes it any easier?
00:38:49He said there was to be no more drinking.
00:38:51She's not hurting anybody.
00:38:52She's jeopardizing every one of us.
00:38:54We're going to be penned up in this truck for two weeks.
00:38:56And I don't like the idea of spending 14 days with an alcoholic woman.
00:39:01Have you figured out where you're going to move the truck?
00:39:04Yeah.
00:39:05Well, just between you and me, do you think it's going to do any good?
00:39:10What do you mean?
00:39:11What do you mean?
00:39:12You know if we're within 200 miles of ground zero, it's no use.
00:39:16People survived here at Shima and they didn't have any warning.
00:39:18Well, that was an old-fashioned atomic bomb.
00:39:21Now, if they used the hydrogen warhead, then what?
00:39:24In that case, it's over.
00:39:26No truck, no mountain, no nothing.
00:39:29Well, we can't think that way.
00:39:31As long as I wear this badge, it's my duty to protect the lives of the citizens.
00:39:35And your plan of survival is a truck?
00:39:38That's right.
00:39:39Sure, I could have sent you to a reception area.
00:39:41Well, then why didn't you?
00:39:43We'd have never made it.
00:39:54Honey?
00:39:56Come here.
00:40:10Have a drink?
00:40:11Come on.
00:40:13It's great.
00:40:14Whiskey?
00:40:15Claire and Mellow.
00:40:18What's the matter, kid?
00:40:21I'm frightened.
00:40:23Well, who isn't?
00:40:26I'll tell you something, honey.
00:40:30I've been scared since I was 12.
00:40:34Wouldn't you notice what happened when he bought me a mink coat?
00:40:40I'm sorry.
00:40:41You know, Joe, he looks like a hood.
00:40:43He acts like a hood most of the time.
00:40:45But I know him.
00:40:46He's a sweet guy.
00:40:47He's been awful good to me.
00:40:48I love him.
00:40:49You want to know something?
00:40:50He loves me, too.
00:40:51Come on, honey.
00:40:52Bottoms up.
00:40:53Bottoms up.
00:40:54Come on, honey.
00:40:56Bottoms up.
00:40:57That's a girl.
00:40:58That's a girl.
00:40:59It may not be the best taste of it, honey.
00:41:00But I know him.
00:41:01I know him.
00:41:02He's been awful good to me.
00:41:03I love him.
00:41:04You want to know something?
00:41:07He loves me, too.
00:41:08He loves me, too.
00:41:14Come on, honey.
00:41:15Bottoms up.
00:41:25That's a girl.
00:41:27It may not be the best tasting stuff, but it'll sure make you feel better.
00:41:33Are you going to get married?
00:41:38Joe wanted it first class.
00:41:42Wedding in a big church and all the relatives.
00:41:46Honeymoon on the Matsonia.
00:41:51The royal Hawaiian bridal screen.
00:41:56He just never had enough to make it till now.
00:42:02And now that he's finally got it.
00:42:24You talk pretty weepy for a girl.
00:42:27Here's to love.
00:42:32It's the greatest.
00:42:55I almost blew your head off.
00:42:56Oh, I'm sorry.
00:42:57I should have given you some warning.
00:42:59You're lucky I'm not trigger happy.
00:43:03The truck loaded and ready to move?
00:43:08I don't know, Al.
00:43:17You look nice and mink.
00:43:26It's peaceful up here.
00:43:27Sure.
00:43:28That's why I got the shotgun.
00:43:29Al, would you really shoot him?
00:43:32If I had to.
00:43:33Poor boy, you must be frightened to death.
00:43:34You must be frightened of death.
00:43:55Put your arms around me.
00:44:17You know what you're doing?
00:44:19I think I do.
00:44:22You dames, you're all alike.
00:44:25You're all alike.
00:44:55You're all alike.
00:45:08It really doesn't matter what they'll think.
00:45:10You're all alike.
00:45:11You're all alike.
00:45:12You're all alike.
00:45:13You're all alike.
00:45:16You're all alike.
00:45:47Where have you been?
00:46:12Where's your wife?
00:46:14I don't know.
00:46:16That's where I was looking for her.
00:46:18Did you find her?
00:46:20No.
00:46:21No.
00:46:22See the kid, Clint?
00:46:24No, I didn't see anything.
00:46:26Well, where's your wife?
00:46:29I suppose she'll be back in a minute.
00:46:31Well, let out a holler.
00:46:32That'll bring her in.
00:46:45Well, that does it.
00:46:53We got everything in the truck.
00:46:54Okay.
00:46:56We're going to move the truck about a quarter of a mile up the road.
00:46:59Some of you can ride in the back of the truck.
00:47:00The rest of you can ride with me.
00:47:02I'll bring my car so I can keep in contact with County.
00:47:05All right, let's go.
00:47:08Go get the driver.
00:47:09What are you waiting for?
00:47:12We've got to drive the truck.
00:47:14Get going.
00:47:14If it weren't for you, I think I'd throw it away.
00:47:28Yeah, I know what you mean.
00:47:34Al, I don't know how to say this, but it's very important to me.
00:47:38Say it.
00:47:40Well, you said you appreciated honesty.
00:47:43I don't want you to become angry.
00:47:48Well, it's important for me to know how you feel.
00:47:50Does it really make any difference?
00:47:59Does it?
00:48:02Yes.
00:48:05It would tomorrow.
00:48:08Okay, for your tomorrow.
00:48:12Like I said before, any guy worth his soul
00:48:14is going to appreciate you for what you are.
00:48:17And I dig you.
00:48:20Oh, Al.
00:48:50The truck's loaded.
00:48:55We're going to move.
00:48:57You better come down.
00:49:07It really doesn't make any difference, does it?
00:49:11No, it doesn't.
00:49:12Of course.
00:49:14Please.
00:49:14Please.

00:56:55HOW MUCH TIME WE GOT?
00:56:59Who would have thought this truck was going to end up as a bomb-shovel?
00:57:26That's hot.
00:57:29Well, aren't you hot, Joe?
00:57:38Is it really going to be like that?
00:57:42You mean the heat and the blast and the radiation?
00:57:46Yeah.
00:57:49Now, how the hell should I know?
00:57:52But, Joe...
00:57:53Shut up!
00:57:55Will you please, honey?
00:57:59Thank you, Peter.
00:58:12Peter, I did a lot of thinking while you two were away.
00:58:16You know, about a hundred yards from that old shack of yours up in the hills is an abandoned mine.
00:58:22I've never seen it.
00:58:23Oh, it's there.
00:58:24Very old mine.
00:58:25A lot of shrubbery around the entrance.
00:58:27Used to play there when I was a kid.
00:58:29It goes deep into the side of the mountain.
00:58:32Now, by following the main tunnel, you'll be able to go far enough back in where you'll find an area that should protect you.
00:58:38And you don't have to worry about water because there's an underground spring.
00:58:42You really think we'll have a chance there?
00:58:44You'll be a lot safer there than you will be in that truck.
00:58:48Of course, I don't know what you're going to do about food.
00:58:51There's some canned food at the cabin.
00:58:53We can take some with us.
00:58:54Good, good.
00:58:55Well, then, if you hurry, you can make it.
00:58:57Well, what about the others?
00:58:59Oh, once they lock that door, they'll never open it again.
00:59:03Calder can only see things his way.
00:59:05He actually believes that they've got a chance in there.
00:59:08Well, let's try to get them to go with us.
00:59:10There's no use.
00:59:11If anybody has a chance, it'll be young folks like you.
00:59:15Now, that's kind of one-way thinking.
00:59:17Now, do as I tell you.
00:59:18You're going to be in the same boat that they're in.
00:59:20Now, get moving.
00:59:23Well, come on, Grant.
00:59:24Thanks.
00:59:26Always be prepared.
00:59:29It's my motto, too.
00:59:32Now, you two, get in the pickup truck.
00:59:35I got something else to do.
00:59:36No, I'm not going to go.
00:59:38Now, Junie, I'm not coming with you.
00:59:40I'm going to the top of that mountain.
00:59:42I'm going to climb up there and watch it happen.
00:59:45I don't particularly want to be around when this thing's over with.
00:59:50Well, you two got to believe that there can be a new beginning.
00:59:53You haven't much time.
01:00:07I'll save it till later.
01:00:28You can't smoke in here.
01:00:30I said I'd save it till after.
01:00:32With all this mud packed on the ventilators, we ain't going to get any air in here.
01:00:41Well, that's the whole idea.
01:00:43The air is going to be full of radiation.
01:00:44We want to keep as much of it out of here as possible.
01:00:49Yeah, that's right.
01:00:50Look, I don't know about you, but this heat's too much.
01:01:05I'm sure nobody cares if I make myself more comfortable.
01:01:12Well, look, for the next two weeks, we're going to be awful close.
01:01:15I'm sure nobody cares.
01:01:16Look, can't we open the doors just a little bit?
01:01:39Get some fresh air.
01:01:41Are you out of your nut?
01:01:44Who knows when this thing is going to go off?
01:01:46We wouldn't have time to shut the doors.
01:01:49Give me that dog.
01:02:13What do you mean?
01:02:21I mean, give me that dog.
01:02:25What are you going to do with him?
01:02:26You can't open the doors to let him out.
01:02:27The bomb's life will go off.
01:02:29That dog's got to go.
01:02:31We're going to need every bit of air to breathe ourselves.
01:02:34After a while, we'll be laying on the floor to get fresh air.
01:02:37But he's just a little dog.
01:02:39He doesn't breathe much.
01:02:40We can't have him here.
01:02:41No.
01:02:42The dog's got to go.
01:02:42Don't you touch him.
01:02:43Give me that.
01:02:44Wait a minute.
01:02:44Get rid of that dog and you'll help an awful lot.
01:03:09You'll be glad we don't have that extra pair of lungs when you're laying here gasping for breath.
01:03:22Take it easy, Karen.
01:03:28Shut up.
01:03:28No more talking.
01:03:30The best thing for everybody to do now is just sit down and take it easy.
01:03:50The more you get yourselves worked up, the hotter it's going to get and the harder it's going to be.
01:04:24What?
01:04:28I want to get out.
01:04:37I can't stand this.
01:04:39You can stay here if you want to, but you're not going to keep me in here.
01:04:45I'm going to get out.
01:04:58Oh, welcome to the group.
01:05:07Didn't know there was anybody in the truck till we heard all the ruckus.
01:05:11What do you got in there?
01:05:15All kinds of goodies.
01:05:27Where'd you come from?
01:05:29Where are the first out?
01:05:30From the city.
01:05:32There ain't no city no more.
01:05:34Everybody there is going nuts.
01:05:35Yeah, the old warehouse district is on fire.
01:05:39The farm?
01:05:40Are you kidding?
01:05:43What happened to the law?
01:05:47How come you cats got through?
01:05:49There ain't no law.
01:05:51It's everybody for himself.
01:05:53We are the law as far as we're concerned.
01:05:55Well, I'm the law here.
01:05:58Well, you just go right ahead and be the law.
01:06:00All we want to do is get out of here.
01:06:02Nobody's stopping you.
01:06:03Get going.
01:06:04We need gasoline.
01:06:05Is there any gas in there?
01:06:07No.
01:06:08Look, all we need is about 10 gallons to get on the other side of the mountains.
01:06:12Take a look.
01:06:13It's the truth.
01:06:14We ain't got any.
01:06:15Where do you think you're going to go?
01:06:17As far away from here as we can get.
01:06:19You ain't got a chance, man.
01:06:23That blast is going to cover an area for miles around, and you ain't going to run fast enough or far enough to get anywhere.
01:06:31Why don't you get in the truck with us?
01:06:33Are you kidding?
01:06:34That flimsy thing will never hold.
01:06:36Even if the blast doesn't cave it in, the heat will burn it to a crisp.
01:06:40You're wrong.
01:06:41Look, man.
01:06:44If we thought we had a chance, we would have fought our way into the subway.
01:06:47There ain't no chance here at all.
01:06:49But we got a chance if we get some gas.
01:06:51All units.
01:06:52All units, take shelter.
01:06:54Take shelter.
01:06:55Missiles coming in.
01:06:57Missiles three minutes away.
01:06:59Missiles three minutes away.
01:06:59And we got no time to mess around.
01:07:00Come on, let's get the hell out of here.
01:07:01There ain't no gas in the bus.
01:07:03Let's try the cop's car.
01:07:04Five seconds away.
01:07:06Missiles three minutes, 50 seconds away.
01:07:08No keys.
01:07:09Take shelter.
01:07:10Take shelter.
01:07:10Missiles, 2 minutes, 1,5 seconds away.
01:07:19Get him.
01:07:24Let's go.
01:07:31Take shelter.
01:07:32Take shelter.
01:07:37Get shelter.
01:07:39Missile 2 minutes and 10 seconds away.
01:07:51Missile 2 minutes and 5 seconds away.
01:08:09Clint!
01:08:23Wait a minute, Clint! Don't run!
01:08:26Come on, Clint, get in the truck!
