Just before she and her adolescent son Parker are about to head to her small hometown of Wellington for the Christmas break, widowed Olivia Carver, an artist in her own right but one with a severe case of artistic block, learns that there is a high likelihood that she will lose her job as a curator at the New York Gallery of Young Artists in the new year solely due to lack of funding. She fears the uncertainty even more for Parker, who has retreated into a shell ever since his father Tom passed. She moved to New York City to eke out that life as an artist which was only punctuated by her marriage to Tom and having Parker. But she is excited to see that the art scene in Wellington has progressed during her absence with a Christmas mural contest for a prominent exterior wall in town, a contest she doesn't plan on entering due partly to her block. Not submitting an entry doesn't stop her from winning the contest in her mother Betty submitting one of her old paintings as an entry on her behalf. In the process, Olivia keeps running into Will Campbell, the contest runner-up, the two who have had one antagonistic encounter after another up to this point. But in the two learning more about the other, including the honorable reasons that led to them unfortunately butting heads, they begin to be a support for the other, art and otherwise, including Will helping Olivia with the mural as a second pair of creative eyes. As they start to fall for each other, the question becomes if she will take a chance with Will and abandon the path she and Tom had envisioned for themselves and Parker in New York City.

00:28:09so i guess it's kind of like i am working on the mural after all
00:28:20oh
00:28:25Oh, tasting with Will.
00:28:41Mom, boundaries.
00:28:43It was right there, sorry.
00:28:46And you're welcome for the freshly baked cookies, by the way.
00:28:49I'll go get you some milk.
00:28:51Mom, I'm an adult woman.
00:28:52I don't need a glass of milk.
00:28:55Oh, don't be silly.
00:28:56You love milk with your cookies.
00:28:57I'll be right back.
00:29:20As an artist, I need you to level with me.
00:29:23Do either of these ideas work?
00:29:26I think there are elements of each that work.
00:29:30I knew it.
00:29:31They're terrible.
00:29:32That's not what I said.
00:29:34Look, there's good stuff in here.
00:29:36I think you just need to distill it down into a unifying theme.
00:29:41You know?
00:29:41Okay.
00:29:43What do you like about this one?
00:29:48I like the colors and the composition.
00:29:52Mm-hmm.
00:29:53It feels almost dreamlike, which is kind of how I remember Wellington as a kid.
00:30:01That's great.
00:30:02And how about this one?
00:30:03Well, obviously, I love it because it reminds me of Parker.
00:30:10It feels like that special kind of Christmas magic.
00:30:15Warm and cozy and comforting.
00:30:20Can't argue with that.
00:30:21Is it crazy to try to do both?
00:30:23To come up with a design that showcases the winter walk, but is also more personal and intimate?
00:30:32Honestly, I think that's a great idea.
00:30:38Okay.
00:30:39Okay.
00:30:41So all I have to do is finalize a design, buy supplies, prep the wall, overcome my creative block, and flawlessly execute a public art project in a week and a half by Christmas Eve.
00:30:58Okay, but the good news is, you're not alone.
00:31:06You've got your parents.
00:31:07You've got Parker.
00:31:08You've got me.
00:31:09I bet we could rope Cody and Ivy into it also.
00:31:14Actually, yeah, I've been looking for an excuse to get those two in a room together.
00:31:18I set them up on a date a while ago, and apparently it did not go well.
00:31:25Ivy's been holding a grudge against Cody ever since.
00:31:27Maybe this could help them bury the hatchet.
00:31:29Okay.
00:31:31I'm making a mental note to get the details about that from Ivy ASAP.
00:31:37Are you sure that you want to help?
00:31:40You're not just being nice?
00:31:43Well, actually, I am being nice because I'm nice.
00:31:49Okay.
00:31:52I think I need to just bite the bullet and get started.
00:31:59All right.
00:32:01Let's get started.
00:32:07Hey, perfect timing.
00:32:12We were just about to get started.
00:32:13You have your lists?
00:32:15Oh, yeah.
00:32:15Olivia, did you see the sales section?
00:32:19Well, I wasn't expecting to see you here.
00:32:22Hey, Ivy.
00:32:23Um, how are you?
00:32:24I've been fine ever since you stood me up.
00:32:27Come on, I didn't stand you up.
00:32:28I left in the middle of the date.
00:32:32Okay, I know that isn't better.
00:32:34You left me with a bill at a fancy restaurant so you could go play bingo.
00:32:38I Venmo'd you, and I didn't play bingo.
00:32:40I hosted bingo at town hall.
00:32:43Our normal guy flaked.
00:32:44I couldn't just abandon the senior group.
00:32:45No, so you just abandoned me.
00:32:47I can see that, uh, there are still some fresh wounds here.
00:32:52How about we split up, tackle our lists separately, and maybe cool off a little bit?
00:32:58That is a great idea.
00:33:00So, Ivy, you will come and grab some paint with me.
00:33:03And, um, Cody and Will, you're on, uh, tools and equipment.
00:33:07Let me just remind everyone we're dealing with a limited budget.
00:33:10Until projects like this gain traction, the community services department has tight purse strings.
00:33:14That's fine. I'm sure you'll just stick us with the bill anyway.
00:33:18Okay, enough reminiscing.
00:33:21You couldn't have warned me I was walking into an ambush?
00:33:23Oh, no, I could have.
00:33:29Wow, if I had known it was that bad, I would have had Will tell Cody to stay home.
00:33:35I'm fine. I'm over it.
00:33:37I just wanted to see him squirm.
00:33:38So, you and Will are getting pretty chummy.
00:33:46Yeah, well, turns out when he's not being obnoxious, he's actually kind of nice and helpful.
00:33:54Mm-hmm. Nice and helpful. I mean, hot.
00:33:59Okay, pump the brakes. My mom already jumped to that conclusion.
00:34:04Oh, come on. Stop acting like it's a crazy thought.
00:34:07Nothing wrong with thinking someone's cute.
00:34:09Cute has nothing to do with it.
00:34:11We're just collaborating.
00:34:13You don't have to look too far into it.
00:34:15Yeah, we actually have another session booked for tonight.
00:34:17See? And you really still think there's nothing more going on?
00:34:21Look, until she gives me reason to believe otherwise, there's nothing romantic happening.
00:34:24Can't you?
00:34:37Olivia, I see you've been busy.
00:34:41My dad mentioned that he was going to stop by and clean today.
00:34:45Said I needed a proper studio to work with.
00:34:48Huh. So, despite Cody abandoning this place, it's thriving too.
00:34:53Sounds familiar.
00:34:54Ha-ha.
00:34:55Okay. Enough lollygagging. There's still plenty of supplies to bring in from outside.
00:35:00All right.
00:35:14All right. Have a look.
00:35:17You can choose whatever you'd like, Parker.
00:35:20Want to paint for an hour? We can do that.
00:35:22Want to pound some clay and make a sculpture? That's cool, too.
00:35:31Oh, I think he has his eye on something.
00:35:33What do you see?
00:35:34The pastels?
00:35:35The pastels. Excellent choice. Very expressive.
00:35:42What should I draw?
00:35:44Honestly? Anything you want.
00:35:47This is all about you.
00:35:49How you're feeling right now.
00:35:50I'm just here to guide you as much or as little as you need.
00:35:59Would it be okay if your mom and I joined you?
00:36:01Yeah. Nice.
00:36:14Okay.
00:36:14Okay. You've got a pad.
00:36:15Let's give one to your mom.
00:36:18And I get one, too.
00:36:21So, I'll tell you how I'm feeling.
00:36:24I'm feeling a bit nostalgic.
00:36:26I think I'm going to draw one of my favorite Christmas memories.
00:36:31One year, my parents got me a hockey set.
00:36:34And me and my family spent all day shooting goals on a frozen pond near our house.
00:36:40That's what I'm going to draw.
00:36:41You already know what you want to draw?
00:36:48I want to draw my favorite Christmas present, too.
00:36:51Let me guess. It was a helicopter.
00:36:53No.
00:36:55I'm drawing my train set.
00:36:57What? You're telling me Santa got a whole train down the chimney?
00:37:01It's a toy train.
00:37:03Santa brought it, but my dad helped me set it up.
00:37:09Dad sounds pretty cool.
00:37:11Yeah.
00:37:12He's in heaven now.
00:37:15I'm sorry, Parker.
00:37:18I know that's not easy.
00:37:20Actually, I was only a couple years older than you are when my dad went to heaven.
00:37:26Really?
00:37:27Yeah.
00:37:29I miss him a lot.
00:37:32He was the best.
00:37:35But I know he's looking down on me, even right now.
00:37:41If you want, I can tell you all about him while we do our drawing.
00:37:47Yeah?
00:37:52Your stuff?
00:37:53Yeah.
00:37:54Okay.
00:37:56Whew.
00:37:57Feel that cold wind.
00:38:00Well, Parker, I think you did a great job today.
00:38:03And this turned out so well.
00:38:06Good job.
00:38:06Olivia, you have some homework.
00:38:12Hey, bud.
00:38:14Can you make sure that your mom has at least something drawn before our next session?
00:38:19I got you covered.
00:38:20Yeah.
00:38:23That's my guy.
00:38:28Our next session?
00:38:30Yeah.
00:38:30I figured if you're both up for it before you head back to the city.
00:38:35I want to thank you, Will.
00:38:37Well, I know this means a lot to Parker, and it means a lot to me, too.
00:38:48Mom, can you start the car?
00:38:50I'm freezing.
00:38:52Yeah, bud, I'll be right there.
00:38:54Well, I should probably...
00:39:01Yeah.
00:39:02Um, are you sure that you're okay to lock up?
00:39:06Yeah, yeah, I've got to clean up anyway, so...
00:39:08Okay.
00:39:08All good.
00:39:09Okay.
00:39:10Um, thanks again, Will.
00:39:12You got it.
00:39:13Um, thanks again.
00:39:43It's absolutely beautiful.
00:40:09Parker's first Christmas.
00:40:11He was the best gift anyone could have asked for.
00:40:14I don't know what happened.
00:40:16I was thinking about Parker and how easily he started his drawing.
00:40:21Something just clicked.
00:40:23My hand started moving on its own.
00:40:26Well, it must have been tough putting this down on paper.
00:40:30I'm proud of you.
00:40:31At any rate, it should help with the mural, right?
00:40:34Have the creative floodgates been opened?
00:40:37Drawing this was one thing.
00:40:42Painting a huge mural for everyone to see?
00:40:46That's a whole different animal.
00:40:49But I'm ready to try.
00:40:52Good.
00:40:52What do you mean by a moment?
00:41:00We were standing outside, saying goodnight, and...
00:41:04I don't know.
00:41:05It felt like something could have happened.
00:41:08All right.
00:41:09Did it?
00:41:11No.
00:41:11Of course not.
00:41:12Don't say it like it's ridiculous.
00:41:14You're both young, single, attractive.
00:41:17Aw.
00:41:17Thanks, man.
00:41:18I'm just saying.
00:41:20What's the holdup?
00:41:21Don't get me wrong.
00:41:21Okay.
00:41:22I wanted to kiss her.
00:41:25But, you know, Parker was there.
00:41:27And I guess I feel like it's not my place to make a move like that.
00:41:36Olivia needs to decide when it's right for her and for Parker.
00:41:41Sure, I get that.
00:41:42But don't you think last night might have been some kind of indication she's into you?
00:41:46It was basically a date.
00:41:48Me doing our therapy with her son?
00:41:50That was a date?
00:41:51Wouldn't even breach the top five of the weirdest first dates I've been on.
00:41:53I don't know.
00:42:01You really think she might have considered last night a date?
00:42:04If I was her, I'd date you before letting you give my kid therapy.
00:42:07Hey.
00:42:10Was that a wreath?
00:42:13Yes, but I was aiming at Cody.
00:42:16Oh, well, now I see why you became an artist.
00:42:21Wow.
00:42:22What happened in here?
00:42:24It looks great.
00:42:25Well, I figured we're going to be spending a lot of time here.
00:42:28Might as well make it festive.
00:42:29How'd he rope you into this?
00:42:31I honestly don't know.
00:42:33I should be at Town Hall.
00:42:34And now that you're here, I feel less guilty about leaving.
00:42:38Ornament exchange tonight, you guys.
00:42:41And I noticed that wall is still alarmingly blank.
00:42:44Don't worry.
00:42:45That is going to change very soon.
00:42:47Good luck.
00:42:49Thanks, man.
00:42:50See you later.
00:42:50See you later.
00:42:52So, are we actually going to go paint, or were you just trying to get rid of Cody?
00:43:00A little bit of both.
00:43:01I figured we could start by finishing up the actual mural frame, and I'll tell you all about my new design idea.
00:43:10New design idea?
00:43:12Now you're talking.
00:43:12Okay.
00:43:14Well, lead the way.
00:43:15So, yeah, most of the design would be more traditional, kind of like the Norman Rockwell idea, but with some different styles thrown in.
00:43:28So, the trees and the mountains could be more classical landscape style, and then throw in some lights and Christmas decorations for the holidays.
00:43:38Maybe some surrealism?
00:43:39A couple of nutcrackers melting.
00:43:49Seriously?
00:43:50I think that sounds great.
00:43:51It's ambitious, but it's great.
00:43:53I wanted to thank you again, Will, for last night.
00:44:01It was really wonderful.
00:44:04And not just because I'm feeling inspired.
00:44:08Parker is so proud of his drawing.
00:44:11He would not stop talking about you at breakfast.
00:44:14Well, I'm glad I could help.
00:44:16Oh, that reminds me.
00:44:19My homework.
00:44:20As requested.
00:44:21Ah, okay.
00:44:26Oh, wow.
00:44:29Is that?
00:44:30It's Tom.
00:44:31With Parker.
00:44:33It's my favorite Christmas memory.
00:44:36It's beautiful.
00:44:40Like I said, if, um, if Parker wants to do another session with me while you're still here, I'd be happy to.
00:44:47Still got all the supplies in there.
00:44:51You really love this, don't you?
00:44:57Art therapy, teaching?
00:44:59I couldn't imagine doing anything else.
00:45:02Me, no offense, but if it weren't for the severe lack of teaching opportunities in Boston,
00:45:06I probably wouldn't have ended up in Wellington.
00:45:10But it turned out for the best.
00:45:16I think it looks pretty good.
00:45:18Yeah.
00:45:18Now all you've got to do is paint.
00:45:21Wow, this place is packed.
00:45:28When you said ornament exchange, I was picturing, like, ten people.
00:45:31Well, that's because Cody's been killing it lately.
00:45:34You know, it's only the second year that we've done this, and it's already a Wellington staple.
00:45:37Hey, Parker.
00:45:39Are you sure you want to hang that one?
00:45:42You worked so hard on it.
00:45:47Yeah, I'm sure.
00:45:48I think it's cool someone else is going to get to put it on their own street.
00:45:51Can you help me, honey?
00:45:55I need someone tall to lift me.
00:45:57What?
00:45:58You think I'm tall?
00:45:59That's amazing.
00:46:01Sure.
00:46:02Can I?
00:46:02Yeah.
00:46:03All right.
00:46:04Let's go pick the best spot.
00:46:05Just be careful, please.
00:46:07Mm-hmm.
00:46:08Whoa.
00:46:09Okay, okay.
00:46:09Parker seems to be really taking to Will.
00:46:14I mean, it probably helps that Will is basically a big kid himself.
00:46:18Yeah.
00:46:19Yeah, I know what you mean.
00:46:21It's like Parker's starting to come out of his shell a little bit.
00:46:24Mm-hmm.
00:46:25And boy, is he ever responding to Will's art therapy.
00:46:28Yes.
00:46:29You two are joined at the hip lately.
00:46:32Yeah, well, as much as I hate to admit it, Will has been a huge help so far.
00:46:40I don't think I'd be able to finish in time on my own.
00:46:43I'm not talking about the painting, Olivia.
00:46:45I'm talking about this.
00:46:48Wait, hold up.
00:46:49One, two, three.
00:46:52Cookies.
00:46:53Cookies.
00:46:54Just one.
00:46:55Yeah.
00:46:56Just a single painting.
00:46:57Just a single one.
00:46:59Of course we do.
00:47:01Cookies.
00:47:31Yes.
00:47:32Now that is what I'm talking about.
00:47:37I'm telling you, buddy, it feels great.
00:47:40You're not going to get in trouble.
00:47:41I promise.
00:47:48Oh!
00:47:49See?
00:47:50Good, right?
00:47:52Go crazy.
00:47:53Yeah, there's a whole stack.
00:47:55What is going on in here?
00:47:57Oh, that's therapy.
00:48:00That's therapy.
00:48:02Mm-hmm.
00:48:07Since you're already here, do you want to?
00:48:12Do you want to?
00:48:12Oh, yeah.
00:48:13Doesn't that feel great?
00:48:23Okay.
00:48:24Yes, I will admit that feels pretty amazing.
00:48:29And kind of like a weight has been lifted.
00:48:32Fantastic.
00:48:34Parker, you did so well at this first part of the process.
00:48:37Now what we get to do is choose the pieces that you want to use in your mosaic.
00:48:43I can hear the bells, the bells are ringing.
00:48:47I can hear the children playing, singing.
00:48:51I've been going back to that old feeling.
00:48:54Time to turn it back to that old feeling.
00:48:58Take me home, take me home, take me home, to Christmas.
00:49:05I'll be home, I'll be home, for Christmas.
00:49:14No memories waiting for me.
00:49:17There's no place that I'd rather be.
00:49:20Oh, home, take me home, to Christmas, to Christmas.
00:49:28Oh, home, take me home, to Christmas.
00:49:58Hello?
00:49:59Anyone home?
00:50:01Hey.
00:50:02Hi.
00:50:03I'm glad I didn't miss you.
00:50:05Um, I come bearing gifts.
00:50:08Is that takeout?
00:50:10There's a great Thai place just around the corner.
00:50:12I felt bad that I couldn't help out earlier, so I came to bribe you.
00:50:17I hope you like pads, see you.
00:50:19There's enough for two.
00:50:20That sounds perfect.
00:50:24Four brothers?
00:50:27I cannot imagine five kids.
00:50:31Yeah, I don't think my parents could either.
00:50:32I am the youngest by nine years.
00:50:35Aw, you're a little accident, baby.
00:50:37Well, you know, I prefer surprise.
00:50:41So what's your brother's deal?
00:50:42They all married with kids?
00:50:44Oh, yeah.
00:50:46I have ten nieces and nephews.
00:50:48Wow.
00:50:50Christmas at your mom's must be wild.
00:50:52Yeah, it is.
00:50:53Of course, it still doesn't stop my mom from asking when I will be giving her more grandchildren.
00:50:59But, uh, I just don't think I'm really cut out for that.
00:51:04For being a parent?
00:51:10Will, come on, I've seen you teach.
00:51:12And with Parker, obviously, you'd be great at it.
00:51:17Sorry, um, you did not ask my opinion on that.
00:51:22You're okay.
00:51:24I know that it's stupid, but...
00:51:29When my dad died, it hit me so hard as a kid.
00:51:36I was sad and angry and confused.
00:51:40And I think...
00:51:41I think one day I'll be gone.
00:51:44And when that happens, I don't want my kid to have to live through what I did.
00:51:55Well...
00:51:55That is not stupid.
00:51:57Losing someone you love is really hard.
00:52:05But you can't let the fear of losing someone outweigh the joy of loving them.
00:52:12There's not a day that goes by that I don't miss Tom.
00:52:17But that pain and that grief...
00:52:23It's worth it.
00:52:26Because of all of the wonderful memories that I have of him.
00:52:31And yeah, I wish that...
00:52:34I could spare Parker the pain of having lost his dad.
00:52:37But that would mean losing the good parts, too.
00:52:47And I know he wouldn't trade those memories for anything.
00:52:49It sounds like it was kind of awkward.
00:53:00It was.
00:53:01At first.
00:53:02But...
00:53:03Then we started painting and everything went back to normal.
00:53:05Well, you guys did kind of bare your souls to each other last night.
00:53:09That's a heavy conversation to come back from.
00:53:11Especially when it's with someone he likes so much.
00:53:14Okay, you have to stop saying that he likes me.
00:53:18I refuse.
00:53:19I will die on this hill.
00:53:23I guess I did see another side of him last night.
00:53:26It was nice having a real conversation.
00:53:29He must make you feel comfortable.
00:53:32Yeah.
00:53:33He does.
00:53:34I think it's great.
00:53:37And you should, too.
00:53:38How's it going over there?
00:53:47That's great.
00:53:48Is that us?
00:53:50Yeah.
00:53:50I think I need to make your head bigger.
00:53:53Excuse me?
00:53:54Excuse me?
00:53:54Mouth, ear, ear, eyes.
00:54:08Okay, that's better.
00:54:10Excuse me.
00:54:11That's perfect.
00:54:12Excuse me.
00:54:20Hey, bud.
00:54:21I wanted to talk to you about something.
00:54:22So I know Christmas here so far has been a lot of fun.
00:54:33Yeah.
00:54:34I like getting to see Grandma and Grandpa all the time.
00:54:37I like Mr. Campbell, too.
00:54:39He's funny.
00:54:40Yeah.
00:54:41He's kind of a goofball, huh?
00:54:44Yeah.
00:54:44He helped me make friends at the Christmas Craft Club.
00:54:48That's great.
00:54:50I'm so glad.
00:54:52I guess we're really going to miss all this when we head home after Christmas.
00:55:01Yeah.
00:55:03But the good news is that Wellington is not that far from New York.
00:55:09So we don't have to wait until Christmas to visit again.
00:55:12When can we come back?
00:55:13Whenever you want.
00:55:14I mean, within reason.
00:55:16It is a five-hour drive.
00:55:18Okay.
00:55:27It's Dad.
00:55:28He will always be with us.
00:55:40No matter what.
00:55:42You know that, right?
00:55:53Hey, Mom.
00:55:54Hey.
00:55:54What's going on?
00:55:58Oh, not much.
00:55:59Should be ready soon.
00:56:01This all looks great, but I thought you said we were having a quick family dinner.
00:56:06I have to keep working on the mural after this.
00:56:08Oh, I know that, sweetheart.
00:56:09We won't keep you too long.
00:56:12Anyway, I just feel like making something special.
00:56:14Hey, Parker, what's who's here?
00:56:18Mr. Campbell!
00:56:20Oh, hi, Parker.
00:56:22Nice to see you.
00:56:24Have a seat, Will.
00:56:25Oh, thanks.
00:56:26We are...
00:56:27Mom?
00:56:30Did you invite Will to dinner and forget to tell me about it?
00:56:34No, I didn't forget.
00:56:35I told you this morning.
00:56:37No, you didn't.
00:56:39Well, I meant to.
00:56:40I...
00:56:41Must have just slipped my mind.
00:56:43Well, anyway, I don't know what all the fuss is.
00:56:45He's a very nice man.
00:56:47He's helping you with your mural.
00:56:49I...
00:56:50Actually, it's appalling that we didn't do this sooner.
00:56:54Well, if you had talked to me about it, I might have mentioned that tonight isn't really
00:57:01the best night.
00:57:03Why not?
00:57:04Because...
00:57:08We had kind of an intense conversation yesterday, and now having him over, I just...
00:57:16I don't want him to get the wrong idea.
00:57:18What wrong idea?
00:57:20It's a pot roast.
00:57:22You're doing that thing.
00:57:24Where you act all innocent, but secretly, you are plotting.
00:57:30And you are looking too far into this.
00:57:33Now, I want you to march over to that stove and make sure those veggies don't burn, while
00:57:40I go greet our guest.
00:57:46Will, I'm so glad we didn't make it.
00:57:49I'm good to see you.
00:57:50You did that self-portrait.
00:57:53It looked exactly like me.
00:57:54It didn't look anything like me.
00:57:56Seriously, though, the mural is looking great.
00:57:59I could see why Olivia's been able to make it as an artist in New York City.
00:58:03That's not easy.
00:58:04That must feel good, having another artist talk about your work with such high esteem.
00:58:08Well, it may be infrequent, but yes, it is appreciated.
00:58:12I try telling her all the time how great she is, and she doesn't like hearing it.
00:58:17Her own mother.
00:58:19Now, granted, I'm not an art critic, but I do know good art when I see it.
00:58:24I mean, I get that.
00:58:26My mom's a bit like that, and I admit it can be a bit embarrassing.
00:58:30Okay.
00:58:31It's not that we don't believe you.
00:58:34It's just artists are pretty hard on themselves, and when you have a good mother, you know
00:58:41that she is going to support you no matter what, right?
00:58:44I could draw a stick figure dog with five legs, and my mother would think it was wonderful.
00:58:53So, Betty, I would just take it as a compliment.
00:58:56It means Olivia knows that you love her, and you want what's best for her.
00:58:58Mr. Campbell, do you ever visit New York?
00:59:04Um, you know, not as much as I would like to.
00:59:09But now that I have some friends there, maybe I should come more often.
00:59:15If that's okay, of course.
00:59:19Yeah, you are welcome any time.
00:59:26You need a bag of sugar if we like you.
00:59:28Just like this guy.
00:59:32I hate to cut a lovely evening short, but I think Parker is all s'mored out.
00:59:37Oh.
00:59:38So I better get him to bed.
00:59:39Oh, don't be silly.
00:59:40Your father and I will put him to bed.
00:59:42You can stay and have fun.
00:59:44Come on, sweetheart.
00:59:45Sweetie, I haven't finished roasting my mother.
00:59:47Come on, sweetheart.
00:59:49Yeah, I probably should lay off the sugar.
00:59:52Will, great to have you over.
00:59:57Thank you so much.
00:59:59All right, load me up.
01:00:00Okay.
01:00:01Oh, it's okay, bud.
01:00:02I got you, everybody.
01:00:03Okay, you okay, Dad?
01:00:04Yeah, here we go.
01:00:05Okay.
01:00:06Night, guys.
01:00:08Yeah?
01:00:08Good night.
01:00:09Good night.
01:00:11Good night, Mom.
01:00:12Good night, sweetheart.
01:00:13New York does not have stars like this.
01:00:23Well, score one for Wellington.
01:00:27And sure, we might not have the city's culture or food or incredible art scene or bountiful
01:00:35career opportunities, but we got stars.
01:00:38Well, speaking of career opportunities, I've been so busy with the mural that I haven't
01:00:49even thought about work.
01:00:51What's up?
01:00:53I, uh, found out my job is having to downsize, and I'm not sure where I land on the chopping
01:01:01block.
01:01:04Really?
01:01:04That's awful.
01:01:08So, if your job is up in the air, is there any reason that you're rushing back right after
01:01:15Christmas?
01:01:17I mean, I don't know what people get up to in New York City, but I will tell you that
01:01:21things are pretty wild here on New Year's Eve.
01:01:25Some of the stores even stay open till nine.
01:01:29Yeah.
01:01:32Well, for all I know, my job could be safe.
01:01:35Plus, I have to head home sometime.
01:01:41Get back to real life.
01:01:45Sure.
01:01:46There's probably nothing here we're sticking around for.
01:01:48Wait.
01:02:06I'm sorry.
01:02:07I, I, I can't, I can't do this.
01:02:10Olivia, I...
01:02:11Please, um, I need to go.
01:02:14I, I know.
01:02:25I, I...
01:02:26I, I...
01:02:27I...
01:02:31I, I, I, I, I, I...
01:02:33Oh, my God.
01:03:03Will?
01:03:24Hey.
01:03:25Oh, hey, Dad.
01:03:27Well, nice to see you, too.
01:03:29Sorry.
01:03:30I thought you were Will.
01:03:32We had a weird thing last night, and we haven't had a chance to talk about it yet.
01:03:39Oh.
01:03:40Well, look, if you need an ear to bend, I'm right here.
01:03:43Thanks.
01:03:45What have you got there?
01:03:47Oh, just some tools and hardware.
01:03:50You know, I thought I'd reinforce those shelves, you know, make sure they don't collapse on us.
01:03:54Dad, you are working so hard.
01:03:57You should give yourself the day off.
01:03:59You just retired.
01:04:00You should relax and enjoy it.
01:04:02Sweetie, I tried relaxing.
01:04:04It didn't really take.
01:04:05But I am enjoying it.
01:04:07I like to hang out with you.
01:04:09Now, come on.
01:04:09Let me pick up some of Will's slack and give you a hand.
01:04:12Thanks.
01:04:13That would be nice.
01:04:14All right, folks, do not forget the nose.
01:04:20Remember, if it ain't red, it ain't Rudolph, right?
01:04:23It's just some boring, average, nameless reindeer.
01:04:27Okay, so you got shut down.
01:04:29What happened next?
01:04:31Nothing.
01:04:31I went home.
01:04:35Great, Doug.
01:04:36Thanks.
01:04:37Love your imagination.
01:04:39Oh, purple's cool, too.
01:04:41Way to go against the grain, Mona.
01:04:42Born rebel over here.
01:04:45Very nice.
01:04:46Very nice, everybody.
01:04:48Have you guys, like, talked about it?
01:04:51Not a peep.
01:04:53I'm not an idiot, Cody.
01:04:54I could take a hint.
01:04:55She needs space.
01:04:56Or she was just caught off guard.
01:04:58Probably felt like one of these in the headlights.
01:05:04Well, suffice it to say, I am not going to make that mistake again.
01:05:07I'm just going to keep my distance.
01:05:12It was a dumb move anyway.
01:05:13She's leaving in a couple days.
01:05:14All right.
01:05:18Looks like everybody's putting the finishing touches on their work.
01:05:22Oh, and that's a good thing, because we've just run out of time.
01:05:25Thanks for a fun class, everyone.
01:05:27You've done some great work today.
01:05:28Let's all give a hand to Will for so graciously hosting class on such short notice.
01:05:36Thanks.
01:05:37Great stuff.
01:05:38Nice.
01:05:40Seriously, man.
01:05:42I'm going to kill Randy for bailing on bingo day again.
01:05:45Honestly.
01:05:45I enjoy it.
01:05:46Find yourself short-staffed again?
01:05:48Let me know.
01:05:49Well, if the mural goes well, maybe I could convince the city to allocate more funds for
01:05:54our projects.
01:05:55Get you paid for stuff like this.
01:05:56I wouldn't say no to that.
01:05:58So long as Olivia finishes in time.
01:06:00You think she's going to get it done?
01:06:01Oh, no doubt in my mind.
01:06:02At this point, I would just slow her down anyway, so it's probably for the best.
01:06:06Unless she wants you there, of course.
01:06:09That wouldn't be so bad.
01:06:10Hey, you worked late.
01:06:26I was getting worried.
01:06:28Finishing up is taking longer than I thought.
01:06:32Oh, I thought about pulling an all-nighter, but I don't think I could lift a paintbrush right
01:06:37now.
01:06:38You're close?
01:06:40Good.
01:06:41Just one last section I haven't been able to nail down.
01:06:44A scene with a family on Christmas.
01:06:47I've painted their faces a dozen times, but it's just never looked right.
01:06:53Hoping to knock it out tomorrow morning before the unveiling.
01:06:57You know, your father told me he had a really nice time working with you today.
01:07:02It was quite the conversation from what I understand.
01:07:05You know, if you have anything you want to talk about, I'm always here.
01:07:13I appreciate that you want to help, but sometimes your way of helping just kind of complicates
01:07:20things.
01:07:20I'm sure I don't even know what you're talking about.
01:07:25Mom, come on.
01:07:28You knew that I was having trouble painting, so you secretly entered me in a contest to
01:07:35try to motivate me.
01:07:36You saw that Will and I were getting along, so you invited him over for dinner and left
01:07:41us stargazing.
01:07:42Yes, and now you almost finished painting a mural and you kissed a man you liked.
01:07:50If it took a little nudging for me to get you there, so be it.
01:07:55What about what I want?
01:07:57Doesn't that matter?
01:07:58Of course it does.
01:08:00So tell me, Olivia, what do you want?
01:08:04I just need you to listen.
01:08:06That's all.
01:08:07Okay.
01:08:17All right.
01:08:20Well, I guess I'm having trouble figuring out what I'm supposed to do.
01:08:31Being back home.
01:08:33Painting again.
01:08:35Meeting Will.
01:08:35It's all stirring up a lot of emotions and they're all good, which shouldn't be a problem.
01:08:47But then I think about what that means and the guilt that I feel for falling for another
01:08:56man, for picturing a life outside of New York.
01:08:59And that can't happen.
01:09:02Why not?
01:09:03Because it's the life that Tom and I built together.
01:09:07Parker was born there.
01:09:09And I moved to New York to pursue my career.
01:09:13So if I leave all that behind, then I've failed as an artist.
01:09:17And if I abandon the life that Tom and I were building together, then I have failed as a wife
01:09:23and as a mother.
01:09:25Parker, you are not a failure.
01:09:28I need you to hear that.
01:09:30And you do know art exists outside of New York, right?
01:09:34And you are good enough to make it anywhere.
01:09:37And as far as being a failure of a mother?
01:09:40Well, that's nonsense, too.
01:09:42You and I both know no matter where you are, you will give Parker everything you've got.
01:09:48You will never fail that boy.
01:09:50But what about Tom?
01:09:54Tom loved you more than anything.
01:09:56And he'll always be a part of you.
01:09:57And he'll always want what's best for you.
01:10:00And yes, I know you planned a life with him.
01:10:03And as painful as it is, that plan has changed.
01:10:07And you can't keep holding on to it at the expense of building a life for you and Parker.
01:10:12So what am I supposed to do?
01:10:22Listen to this.
01:10:24Sometimes it's the only guy you've got.
01:10:28And you're not the only one going through a new life change trying to figure things out.
01:10:33I mean, look at your father.
01:10:35The man's retired and doesn't know what to do with himself.
01:10:37And as for me, I found myself in unfamiliar waters, too.
01:10:46I had to watch my daughter go through something terrible and see this bright flame in her start to fade.
01:10:57I don't want to keep growing apart, Olivia.
01:11:00I want to be here for you, if you'll let me.
01:11:03It is very unfair of you to spring this conversation on me when I am physically incapable of escaping.
01:11:23Come here, sweetheart.
01:11:27You'll be fine.
01:11:29Yeah.
01:11:30You'll get past this.
01:11:33Mom!
01:11:40Mom?
01:11:41Hey, Mom!
01:11:43Merry Christmas Eve!
01:11:44Mom!
01:11:45It's Christmas Eve!
01:11:49Merry Christmas Eve, bud.
01:11:51Hey.
01:11:51Whoa, whoa, whoa.
01:11:53I wanted to talk to you about something.
01:11:55Do you have a second?
01:11:56Um, so, I know the plan was to head home in a couple days.
01:12:07But I was wondering how you would feel about staying a little longer, maybe living in Wellington for a while.
01:12:15Like, for good?
01:12:17I don't know.
01:12:20Maybe.
01:12:22What about school?
01:12:24Yeah, you'd have to change schools.
01:12:26And I know that would be tough.
01:12:29So, hey, please, I need you to be honest with me, okay?
01:12:32Because we can just forget this whole thing right now.
01:12:34It'll be tough for me, too.
01:12:42It's our home.
01:12:44And it's where your dad...
01:12:47His memory lives there.
01:12:55Daddy doesn't look there.
01:12:57He's here.
01:12:58He's wherever we are.
01:13:03You're right.
01:13:04Of course you're right.
01:13:07Your dad and I will always love you.
01:13:10You know that, right?
01:13:10Are you sure you're okay with all this?
01:13:15Yeah, but I do have a question.
01:13:18If I go to school here, does that mean Mr. Campbell will be my art teacher?
01:13:25I think so.
01:13:27If nothing else, I'm sure he would love to teach you.
01:13:31Yes!
01:13:33Grandma!
01:13:34Grandpa!
01:13:34Grandpa!
01:13:35This one!
01:13:40Cody Miller, Director of Recreation and Community Services.
01:13:46How can I help you?
01:13:47Hey, Cody, it's Olivia.
01:13:48Olivia, great to hear from you.
01:13:50You got good news for me?
01:13:52Oh, uh, yeah.
01:13:53I'm just on my way to the mural to do some final touch-ups.
01:13:56But we should be all good for the unveiling this evening.
01:13:59Okay, good.
01:14:01If you'd told me you weren't done, I might have had a heart attack.
01:14:05Forget I said that.
01:14:05I have full faith in you.
01:14:07Right.
01:14:08Um, I'm actually calling you to the museum.
01:14:10I'm calling because I wanted to get your help with something.
01:14:13Of course.
01:14:14Anything you need.
01:14:15I'm sure by now you have seen Will, and you've heard what's going on.
01:14:22And I was hoping...
01:14:23Will and I haven't talked since that night, and I really want him to be there tonight.
01:14:33It's important.
01:14:35So, do you think you could make sure that he comes?
01:14:38That's it?
01:14:41Sure, I was going to do that anyway.
01:14:43He needs to support the community services department.
01:14:46And me, frankly.
01:14:47I did want to talk to you about something else.
01:14:50Do you have some time right now?
01:14:51Hey!
01:14:52Merry Christmas.
01:15:06Good evening everyone on behalf of the Community Services Department it gives
01:15:21me great joy to welcome you to the Wellington Winter Walks inaugural
01:15:24Christmas Eve mural unveiling in our ongoing efforts to engage the community
01:15:34through the arts we hope this is the first of many new initiatives to bring
01:15:39our town together but enough for me we're here for the art and it only makes
01:15:45sense to turn things over to the artist so let's all give a big hand for Olivia
01:15:56thank you so much everyone it really means the world that you all came out
01:16:01tonight I have a lot of people in my life that I want to thank my dad Mac who
01:16:12worked tirelessly to make sure that we had a proper space to work my mom Betty who
01:16:23is the reason I entered this contest and who is always rooting for me my son Parker who is my
01:16:34everything and one more person it was with the help of a fellow artist that I was able
01:16:42to overcome my creative block and finally open myself back up to letting the world in again and he
01:16:53deserves to be up here too so well would you like to come and help me do the honors
01:17:02will Campbell everyone hi I want to thank you well for being my partner when I needed one I know that I made
01:17:28things difficult but you helped me see what was missing and you helped me realize what I want
01:17:36um I have just one more announcement um before we unveil the mural I am overjoyed to tell you that the
01:17:51canvas for this piece which has served as a second home since I've been here well it's not going to
01:17:58remain vacant any longer working in tandem with the community services department I will be transforming
01:18:07this space into a studio and a gallery to create and display works of art from myself and fellow Wellington
01:18:16artists as well as anyone else who wants to engage with the arts so without any further ado
01:18:31we present to you a Wellington Christmas
01:19:01will
01:19:07I'm so sorry for pushing you away the other night I just I panicked and then I felt guilty and embarrassed
01:19:23but I I really don't want that to be the way that we leave things
01:19:27because I realized that I'm ready to fall in love again and
01:19:36I am falling in love but if you don't feel the same way I I completely understand I just
01:19:45I wanted to make it perfectly clear that
01:19:48Parker and I we want you in the picture
01:19:58I want to be in the picture
01:20:09I want to be in the picture
01:20:10oh you don't know me and I can breathe
01:20:36Now, these are fun to decorate, but I have to be honest, I'm mostly excited about eating them.
01:20:52Wonderful speech tonight, Olivia. I'm really excited to see what you do at the studio.
01:20:56Thanks, Cody.
01:20:57Me too.
01:20:58Ivy, this is long overdue, but I owe you an apology for how I left our date last year.
01:21:03I can sometimes let work get in the way of my personal life.
01:21:07Apology accepted.
01:21:09And also, Cody, I just have to say I think it's pretty cool how you're always supporting the arts in this town.
01:21:16Whoa, was that a compliment?
01:21:17Don't let it get to your head.
01:21:20Hey, can I buy you a hot chocolate to make up for my past decisions?
01:21:24They're free, you weirdo, but sure.
01:21:31Hey.
01:21:32I have to thank you, Mom, for giving me an edge.
01:21:37You were right.
01:21:38I needed it.
01:21:39So, Cody says that he thinks he might be able to get me a deal on rent if I agree to host community events at the studio.
01:21:51But that means I'm going to really need some help getting it into shape.
01:21:55I think I can find some time for a project like that.
01:22:00Great.
01:22:00But I am not going to let you work too hard.
01:22:03I know you're having trouble with retirement, but if there's one thing I've learned since I've been home, that's the change is good.
01:22:09Okay.
01:22:11But I'm not too worried about it.
01:22:14You know, with the studio and having you and Parker home again, the future is looking pretty bright, sweetheart.
01:22:20I think you should get over there.
01:22:22Come on, Mom.
01:22:23You need to make a cookie, too.
01:22:28I would love to.
01:22:30I got to admit, I am looking forward to doing stuff like this more often.
01:22:38Yeah, me too.
01:22:42So, I was thinking, seeing as how the studio has successfully already hosted some art therapy sessions, it might be a good space to host some more.
01:22:56And it's a great place for any after-school art programs you were thinking of teaching, if that's something you would be interested in.
01:23:06I would love to.
