00:24One of Disneyland's most unusual areas was actually in the park.
00:28Holiday Land was located outside Disney's perimeter berm in a field west of Frontierland.
00:34Holiday Land's nine acres were devoted to simple, inexpensive outdoor family fun.
00:40Opening on June 16, 1957, Holiday Land had its own admission gate into Disneyland
00:47and could hold up to 7,000 guests for large events.
00:51It also had playgrounds, horseshoes, baseball field, volleyball,
00:55the world's largest candy-striped circus tent.
00:58Although Disneyland was totally non-alcoholic, here there would be beer.
01:02Unfortunately, it was almost impossible to get enough temporary restrooms to handle the beer consumption.
01:08Well, you're in here and you're waiting to go through those turnstiles.
01:12Just think, you're hearing the Mark Twain and the Atomic, all of these things just beyond the berm.
01:17But you can't go there.
01:18Traction posters at the entrance?
01:19Yeah, traction posters for the Grand Canyon and the Columbia.
01:22But you're not going to go on those because today you get to do sack racing.
01:29Yeah, you know, man, and at Disneyland, wouldn't that be great?
01:34So we've got a whole lot of adventures here.
01:37I think there were almost as many attractions at Holiday Land as there were in Disneyland itself.
01:44So let's see, after we finish with sack races, we can go on a slide!
01:49How about that?
01:50Look at the cat!
01:52And in a merry-go-round, see?
01:55We have Fantasyland attractions, we have, you know...
02:01Maybe these kids have never been to Disneyland, so they really don't know what those whistles and things belong.
02:07They just think it's part of them.
02:08Now, after you finish with the sack race, you know, nothing can be better than getting your own non-themed balloon.
02:15And a Tom Sawyer hat.
02:17And a Tom Sawyer hat.
02:18And then now you can be in a balloon race.
02:20I guess it's a balloon race, whatever.
02:22I've never done that one myself.
02:24Something, another bucket list.
02:27Now, forget that un-themed slide that I showed you a minute ago.
02:31This is a theme park, okay?
02:34And here is the Frontierland attractions.
02:39Okay, so, this would be fun.
02:42And, of course, you know how hot it is at Disneyland in the summer?
02:46It's really, really hot.
02:47Watch this little girl.
02:49I don't want to go into the sun.
02:52No way!
02:53Ah!
02:54Ah!
02:55Yeah, pretty bad.
02:57Okay, now, remember, we don't want to go on the Jumbo Cruise or the Manor Hornet.
03:07We want to do baseball.
03:08Yeah, that would be fun.
03:09Like, so, Dad's got pitch and whole family's out there.
03:13Meanwhile, the Mark Twain right on the other side of that.
03:17I knew we were going to play baseball.
03:19America's Pastime.
03:20Or volleyball.
03:21Right next to the paint shop.
03:23And there's actually three orange trees, and if you reached high on that barbed wire fence,
03:28you might be able to pick up one of the last remaining oranges, I think.
03:32While you were enjoying your day at Holiday Land.
03:36Look at that circus cart from the Mickey Mouse.
03:38You know, there were contests that were out here, too.
03:40There were?
03:41What kind?
03:42Well, there were, here's one of the judges now.
03:44Well, she looks very honest.
03:46You know, I don't think she would cheat.
03:48No, of course not.
03:49What is she?
03:50Oh.
03:51Oh, okay.
03:52Ah.
03:53Now, maybe there were reasons for certain audience members to go to this that didn't
03:56want to go to Disneyland.
03:57Maybe.
03:58Imagine at Holiday Land.
03:59Yeah.
04:00I think they also had a pier over here, too.
04:03I'm not sure, but, yeah.
04:04And then they brought it up.
04:05Anyway, that's another story.
04:07Now, the rage in the 50s was the hula hoop.
04:12And so, what would a day at Holiday Land be complete without the hula hoop attraction?
04:19She's really good at it.
04:21I could actually do that, too, back in the day.
04:26And back to those sack raises.
04:29Milt Albright came up with the idea of a special area at the park with a separate entrance
04:34to be made available for special parties and companies and organizations.
04:38The place would be called Holiday Land.
04:45This big new addition to Disneyland is an ideal gathering place for organizations visiting
04:50the park.
04:51We're just in time for the Big Potato Derby.
04:54They're off and running.
04:56Uh-oh, number 13 dropped his bit.
04:58And coming down the stretch is the winner by a potato's eyelash.
05:01In this contest, table manners are left at home.
05:05It's all good, clean fun.
05:07Well, anyway, it's delicious.
05:09Under Holiday Land's big top, the Mosketeers are putting on their own show for moms and dads.
05:17And other family fans.
05:30Stay tuned!
05:31Bye!
05:33How big do you learn later?
05:35Bye!
05:36Bye!
05:37What's up?
05:38What did you hear?
05:39Bye!
05:40Bye!
05:41I hope no!
05:42B Famous!
05:44Someone probably's a great singer at the Blackboard.
05:47Into the allergies of hell and natural.
05:49It's a miraclesalyorum.
05:50And this category is what stays the beloved crowd, restored around the山.
05:53It isn't for calls and memories.
05:54Just imagine.
05:55It's awesome.
05:56Earth is a miracle.
05:57Here is a miracle.
