00:00...that the Trump administration can temporarily end a program that provided temporary protection
00:10to more than 500,000 immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.
00:16The High Court, according to Justice Ketanji Brown-Jackson, plainly botched its assessment
00:22and undervalued the devastating consequences of allowing the government to precipitously
00:27upend the lives and livelihoods of nearly half a million non-citizens in the midst of
00:32pending legal claims, according to his writing.
00:35In April, the Trump administration was temporarily prevented from revoking the Biden.
00:40After the immigrants had fled violence in their home countries, the parole programs had provided
00:45them with temporary legal protection.
00:48Trump issued an order in January directing the Department of Homeland Security to end
00:53all categorical parole programs he claimed were contrary to the policies of the United States.
00:59According to the court's order, Justices Samuel Jackson and Sonia Sotomayor did not agree to
01:05grant the request for a stay on the lower court's order.
01:08Jackson said that ending the program will have devastating consequences and that the government
01:14failed to meet its burden of demonstrating harm.
01:16While it is evident that the government seeks a stay to enable it to inflict maximum predecision damage,
01:23the purpose of court-ordered stays is to minimize, not to maximize, harm to litigating parties,
01:29the statement reads.
01:30D. The General Solicitor.
01:32In his request to the Supreme Court, John Sauer argued that District Judge Indira Talwani overstepped
01:38her authority and that the Immigration and Nationality Act grants Homeland Security Secretary
01:43Kristi Noem authority to revoke parole.
01:46In her April order, Talwani stated that undermines the rule of law to prematurely terminate legal
01:52status for non-citizens who complied with DHS programs and lawfully entered the country.
01:58Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said that the program let migrants fly into the United States if they
02:03had a sponsor and went through security.
02:06The program allowed participants to stay for up to two years.
02:09The court allowed the Trump administration to remove 350,000 Venezuelan immigrants' deportation
02:16protections earlier this month.
