00:00Major ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court on immigration.
00:03It allows the Trump administration to revoke the temporary legal status of half a million immigrants,
00:10meaning they are now subject to deportation.
00:13Jonathan Gonzalez with more details.
00:16It's a critical immigration victory for President Trump.
00:19In a 7-2 vote, the Supreme Court ruled the Trump administration may remove the protective status
00:25of more than half a million migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.
00:30They entered the United States under a Biden-era program that allowed them to live and work
00:34in the U.S. while they seek asylum.
00:36It was for a period of two years.
00:38They were required to pass background checks, both medical and criminal, and they also had
00:45to show that they had some sort of financial sponsor who had legal status in the United
00:51States.
00:52Gustavo Mora is an immigration attorney.
00:54He says the program was already set to expire in April of 2026, but this new ruling allowed
01:00the Trump administration to shut it down immediately.
01:02Mora says the administration is targeting migrants who've been in the country for less
01:06than two years.
01:08If they've been here for less than two years, then immigration can pick them up and issue
01:14an expedited removal order against them and take them out of the country without giving
01:18them an opportunity to see an immigration judge.
01:20President Trump has long called for an end to illegal immigration, though these more than
01:24500,000 people all entered the United States legally.
01:27In fact, all the immigrants affected by this order were already subject to deportation, and
01:32Mora says each should now immediately seek the assistance of an immigration attorney or
01:37an immigrant advocacy group.
01:38It may seem like all hope is lost, but oftentimes we can find some other form of relief that
01:46a client might be eligible for in order for them to proceed with their process in the United
01:52States.
