00:00Now look, this is the place where I got to say we got to be honest with ourselves.
00:05We're in this mess.
00:06We know who Trump is.
00:07He told us and he does it every day.
00:09But we're in this mess too because we lost our way.
00:12We lost our way a bit as a party.
00:14And I'll tell you, I get it, all of you sitting there is.
00:17This dude's the last guy I want to tell us about we lost our way.
00:20You're the guy who lost.
00:23But I'll tell you what, none of us, none of us can afford to shy away right now from asking
00:29the hard questions and doing the things we need to do to fix it so that we win elections.
00:36When we lose elections, people's lives are put at risk.
00:39This is not a game.
00:40This is not yay, yay, our team wins.
00:43This is people's lives at stake.
00:49So here's what I've come to terms with.
00:51Here's what I've come to terms with.
00:53The party, the party that, my party, the party that was there to lift my family up when my
00:59dad dies and my mom's got two kids staying at home.
01:03The Democratic Party that was the party of the working class, we lost a big chunk of
01:08the working class in this last election.
01:11And the thing that bothers me to no end and drives me to do something about it, we didn't
01:18just lose the working class.
01:21We lost the working class to a billionaire who gives tax cuts to other billionaires.
01:31This last election, you could hear the primal scream of folks.
01:34Working class folks were in pain.
01:36They were yelling from the top of their lungs, do something.
01:40Do something.
01:41The system's not fair.
01:42You can't own a home.
01:43I can't get healthcare, I'm worried about my kids, I'm worried about gun violence.
01:50And for all of the boneheaded, self-serving, despicable crap that Donald Trump does, that
01:57guy knows how to sniff out a problem.
01:59And he puts on one hell of a show pretending that he cares about those people.
02:04Now look, I hear a version of this everywhere I go.
02:07You know this.
02:08Well, I don't really like Trump, and I don't know if he's right.
02:14I don't even know what he's doing is going to make a difference, but damn it, he's willing
02:18to shake things up and give it a try.
02:21You hear it.
02:23What about us then?
02:25How do they do us?
02:26Well, Democrats, we have no shortage of good ideas.
02:30We talk about it all the time.
02:31You heard some of the things we did in Minnesota.
02:34But when we get into power, we haven't been able to get the stuff done.
02:38At least not the stuff that people actually care about and feel in their lives.
02:42You know this is true.
02:45Some of you here have knocked your damn fingers until they were bloody on doors and called people.
02:51It's terrible to pick up the phone and call somebody cold and say, I'm calling from the
02:54Democratic Party.
02:55Piss off!
02:56Or whatever they do.
02:57You've been there.
02:59You've done the work.
03:01But they don't see it transferring.
03:04And you have to keep going back and asking folks.
03:07The other day I saw this, I read about a Democrat down in Georgia.
03:11They asked this woman, simple question, describe the Democratic Party.
03:17This is a Democrat.
03:18This woman is a Democrat.
03:20And she said, a deer in the headlights.
03:22She said, it's like they see the car coming, but they just stand there and get run over by
03:27the damn thing anyway.
03:30That's a review of our party by someone who actually likes us.
03:34It's a damning indictment, but I think it's right on the money.
03:40The problem isn't just an existential threat politically.
03:45This isn't about winning elections.
03:48This is about what's demanded of us morally.
03:50Because we're fighting for working people.
03:55That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
03:58Working for working people.
03:59That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:00That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:01That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:02That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:03That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:04That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:05That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:06That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:07That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:08That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:09That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:10That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:11That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:12That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:13That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:14That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:15That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:17That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:18That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
04:19That's the DNA of the Democratic Party.
