SPORTS enthusiast has developed the first all weather, four-wheel e-bike that looks exactly like a miniature car. Design engineer Mikael Kjellman produced the crazy PodRide vehicle in Sweden with the basic idea of creating a weather protected and more comfortable bicycle. Making use of an electric motor, this road-legal e-bicycle car can travel long distances both easier and cheaper whilst maintaining an eco-friendly journey.

00:00I put a lot of effort in making it practical, but it has also proven to be
00:05real fun to drive.
00:08Podride is an all-weather four-wheeled e-bike that looks like a miniature car.
00:16Hi, my name is Michael and I am the designer of Podride.
00:22The basic idea with Podride is to have a weather-protected and more comfortable bicycle.
00:28My solution is this four-wheeled, fully-covered bicycle car.
00:33Sports enthusiast Michael designed Podride in his home country, Sweden, to cope with the
00:39inconsistent climate that prevented him from cycling to work.
00:43Podride has an electric motor that allows drivers to adjust the level of assistance in order
00:48to travel further, easier and cheaper.
00:51It is small and has a short turning radius to work well on bikeways and in other city
00:58environments.
00:59We drive on both rear wheels and many gears.
01:03It can even take on steeper hills and rough terrain.
01:08The range is about 60 kilometers.
01:11The top speed with the engine is 25 kilometers an hour.
01:17This makes it a street-legal e-bike here in Sweden and most other countries.
01:22Podride lets users sit at the same height as normal cars, so other drivers can see that
01:27it is a serious road vehicle.
01:29And this all-terrain e-bike not only performs well, it is practical too.
01:34There is room for some baggage in the back.
01:37And if you want to bring your children or you need more baggage, you can hook on a bike trailer.
01:44In the front I have an extra air inlet, headlights and indicator.
01:50It has a 250 watts crankshaft engine, with air suspension, a comfortable and padded seat,
01:59and the recumbent seating position.
02:01You end up getting a very comfortable ride.
02:04You steer with sticks on the side and brake with handles.
02:11To get better ventilation in the summer, you can open up the lower part of the front window
02:16and also both the side windows.
02:20I use this small electric heater to defrost the windows when parked outside in winter.
02:27Michael and the Podride team are hoping to put the first batch of models on sale later
02:31this year, with an exact price yet to be confirmed.
02:35It's still just a prototype, but I've been driving it to work for more than a year now.
02:40It has proven to work very well.
