A GP has welcomed the ban on disposable vapes, saying they are too easily available to young people. Dr Natalie Rout said she’s seen children as young as 12 using them, and that the new ban could help limit access. Report by Covellm. 00:00My concern as a GP is how widely available vapes are, specifically for children. I think
00:06they have a really good role in helping with people that are usually smoking cigarettes.
00:11Vapes are preferred. However, with all of the vapes that are readily available for children,
00:17I'm seeing children as young as 12 that are using vapes, it comes as sort of a step in
00:21the right direction to really controlling how easily available they are. One concern
00:26is that if people don't have access to these single-use vapes, are they going to turn to
00:31the reusable vapes? Are they going to turn to cigarettes instead, which are worse in my opinion?
00:38I think only time will tell if it's going to help from that perspective.
00:43I do think vapes have a role in helping people to come off cigarettes, which are significantly
00:49more harmful from a health perspective. But I am also concerned about the availability
00:56of vapes and the nature of vapes for our children and youth.
