00:00Unless you spill it out, but it absorbs really quickly, you kind of see those tracks, those lines inside, that's where that sodium polyacrylate is sewn into it, and so if we rip it open, you have to rip through a couple layers, and then you can see inside that same gel, so that's the science of how that works.
00:26But, we also, you know, we do love, like we're talking about witchcraft and magic, you know, like I said, we're scientists, not magicians, so we'll show you how it works. In this case, you guys are going to help us figure out how it works, so we're going to need three volunteers, we have sort of a competition, we like games, we like games here, you know, I see one volunteer in the hat, yes, come on up, you with your hand raised, I need two other volunteers to come on up, it's sort of a,
00:55is Planet of the Game Show kind of a competition, you know, are you actually volunteering or being voluntold by your friend? Your friend is wearing a shirt that says, I'm not stubborn, I'm just always right, so if she says that you have to go with it, I guess you do, so there you go, come on up, one more volunteer, or again, are you actually volunteering or is your friend forcing you, right, come on up.
01:17Alright, so we've got sort of a, a little bit of a, a science trick, a magic trick, a competition, it's a combo of all the best, we're going to tour in Vegas next, you know, we really got, we got the grazzle dazzle, we got the audience participation, okay, this is how it's going to work, I think it's a very straightforward competition,
01:42so, simply, all you're going to do, you see you have this giant cup of, um, Styrofo packing penis, I've seen these before, if you've ever worked in a package ever in your life, these come in it, right, um, Styrofo packing penis,
01:57and the way this is going to work, again, very straightforward, no need to be nervous, super easy, when we say, ready, set, go, you're going to see who can fill up their cup first with the packing penis, you can't dump it in, you have to do one at a time, it's like, one, two, three, you get it, yep, um, and so you're just going to simply see who can fill their cup up first with the packing penis, um, another kind of fast hand situation, any questions about that?
02:27Um, yeah, if you want to use two hands, who can you? Yeah, just as long as you're not grabbing from this tools up, it's got to be one packing penis at a time, but you can use two hands if you're, you know, very coordinated, go for it, any other questions?
02:38Okay, so, yeah, very straightforward, simple, but we did say there's a little bit of element of magic in it, and Don is actually, he has powers, um, and so he's going to, he's going to cast his spell, he's, he's still working out his powers though, sometimes they go a little haywire, so he's going to try and cast his spell to, you know, branch you all speed,
02:57I don't know, sometimes it goes a little wonky, so, you know, we're experimenting, we're scientists, it's totally fine, so he's going to cast his spell,
03:03ready?
03:10Okay, yeah, so now you've all been immune with Don's magic powers for short, all right, you ready now?
03:17Okay, get your fast hands ready, set, go!
03:21Oh, we're failing, we're failing, cup, cup number one, doing pretty good, cup number three, she's moving fast, something is happening though, cup number two, you just got to fill it to the top.
03:33You can do it, cup number two, you just got to fill it to the top.
03:35All right, cup number three at the top of Renee, she has won, cup number one right behind her, and cup number two, what is, what is happening here?
03:48All right, you guys, you did it, you did it, cup number three, you won, second place, I don't even know, give our racers a round of applause.
04:02I thought you did it, I would like you to say that again, what did you say?
04:09Oh, it's not the same, yeah, yeah, you know what, Don, what kind of magic were you using?
04:14Um, that's a good point.
04:17Yeah, so we got, yeah, cup number three is first place, cup number one is second place, I don't even know if this one places at all, because we didn't get it in there, but you said it's not the same, why did you say that?
04:29It's dissolving, can you show me again?
04:31Seems strange.
04:34Yep, that's dissolving, all right.
04:37Um, yes, so you guessed it's not the same liquid, you had to guess at what liquid it is.
04:43Alcohol's a good guess.
04:44Um, so it may be Don's Haywire Magic Lounge, but it also might be that I filled these cups with water, a styrofoam full of water, but I did fill this cup with, what is it, we put in there, Don?
05:05Sodium peroxide, sodium peroxide.
05:07if you like to paint your nails, you might have used this particular chemical and acidone.
05:21Yes. Yes, yes, yes. So we have a big container of industrial grade acetone. You can not put this on your hands.
05:30The stuff we use to take off nail polish is like really watered down so it's like not as dangerous to put on your skin, right, just for clarity.
05:37But acetone is used to strip paint. We know that for the nail polish. It's used for lots of things.
05:42Industrial acetone can be used to strip paint off of like walls. And it also melts plastic.
05:48So if you ever heard people talking about styrofoam not being super environmentally friendly, that's because it's basically like a pump of air encased in like thin plastic.
05:56So when I stick the plastic in the styrofoam, the plastic is melted, I mean in the acetone, the plastic is melted by the acetone.
06:05The air escapes, you see like a fizzle or like a head bubbled up when you did it.
06:09And then if you look on the bottom, can you see this kind of like a plastic sludge down there?
06:13So it's not like getting rid of the plastic. It's just melting it down into like one goop instead of getting rid of it,
06:20which is one of the reasons why people are concerned about the environment using plastics like styrofoam.
06:25They actually make now a kind of cactus peanut that's made out of cornstarch.
06:29So it just melts in water and disappears all natural. It's a good way to help protect the environment.
06:34But let's give a huge round of applause for our three volunteers. Great job. Thank you so much.
06:44Alright. We have another demonstration for you guys.
06:50So for our final act.
