00:00It's the final of Interior Design Masters and our designers are transforming two holiday
00:11cottages here in the whimsical village of Port Merion in Wales. And when we heard the locals
00:20were looking for a new king and queen we decided to step in didn't we Michelle?
00:24Indeed. Where would you like us? In a palace? Oh I'd love a throne. Between the two bishops please.
00:32Oh. You need to write a bigger check mate. Welcome to the final. The search for this
00:42year's Interior Design Master is almost at an end. Drumroll please. Over the last
00:50seven weeks the designers have transformed everything. From hostel bunk rooms. That's why
00:58it's backwards. To spaces for rescue dogs. I am putting some of the slogans that Battersea
01:07uses onto these boys. Oh this is spectacular. To hospitality boxes.
01:14Wow. The Twickenham 1909 finals on the doors. It's a small touch but gosh how effective.
01:21After their last performance in Edinburgh. Craig took a final bow. To fall short at the last
01:27hurdle it hurts. Oh wow. Now Rita. Au revoir. And John remains. Come on. Come on. The winner of Interior Design Masters is.
01:42We're in the final. Well done. Welcome you. I'm in the final. I mean this is a dream come true. Like.
02:04Off to Port Merion. I know. Oh my goodness. Being in the final is everything. My journey here has not been easy.
02:13But it's going to be fun to be in the final with Rita. She's going to be really tough competition.
02:18So we have a design technology teacher and a visual merchandiser in our final. They couldn't have more different skills. So I am so excited to see what Don and Rita do.
02:27That's what I thought it looks like it had. Rita's consistently excelled with her rustic textural signature style.
02:34What are you doing with this old bit of corrugated iron? I'm adding the wall with it.
02:38And brilliant ability to visualise a room. Super sexy textures.
02:44Winning her the first standout space. Thank you.
02:48The gift that Rita has is that she's able to take almost anything and make it into something extraordinary.
02:53She really does turn trash into treasure. Hello. We've got lights.
02:57Your imagination is something else. By week six, Rita had slightly lost her confidence a little.
03:04It's all neutrals on neutrals. So she ended up on the sofa because I didn't see enough of her in the design.
03:10The feedback then was leaning to you, which is exactly what we saw in the semi-final, which is why she's in the final.
03:18Winning some that space last week was actually the push I needed. I'm going to go for it. It's going to be epic.
03:26Keep going. You can see you're a teacher. You're just the right side of patronising.
03:32John's DT background has been evident through his expert use of materials.
03:37All of this matchboarding has been done incredibly well.
03:40John really showed me that he has an incredible attention to detail.
03:44It is exactly the right size to go in this frame.
03:49But he's been on the sofa four times.
03:52The words are nice and inoffensive, and that's not good enough.
03:56I'm worried that we're not going to get it all done.
03:59One of the biggest lessons that John's had to learn is time management.
04:03He's bitten off too much, but I can feel that he went for it.
04:07By the quarter-final, John turned a corner.
04:10It reeks of class.
04:11Well, I love that. Reeks of class.
04:13Along with Craig, his shop won standout space.
04:16John, you finally did it!
04:18In his cringe venue, it really all came together.
04:22Oh, wow. Now I'm excited.
04:24He created a design that will really stand the test of time.
04:28I am going into the final feeling confident.
04:30It's well within my ability to smash this, so that's the plan.
04:35Our final two designers.
04:38How are you feeling?
04:40Very excited. Very excited, yeah.
04:42The prize is really amazing.
04:44You'll be working alongside John Lewis's design team
04:47to create your own homeware line.
04:50That's incredible. Yeah.
04:51My mum will be very excited.
04:55I think she'll sleep outside of John Lewis's design people.
04:59The idea of John Cooper and John Lewis
05:01teaming up together is quite exciting.
05:02The two Johns. I know.
05:04But before all that, for the final,
05:07you're heading to the almost mythical, mystical village
05:10of Port Merion in Wales,
05:13where you'll be transforming one of their cottages.
05:16Port Merion on the northwest coast of Wales
05:19is a colourful masterpiece of eclectic buildings
05:22and the brainchild of architect Sir Clough William Ellis.
05:26Over the last century, it's inspired creatives
05:29from Noel Coward to the Beatles
05:31and was the location of 60's TV cult classic, The Prisoner.
05:35Today, anyone can stay in one of its 13 quirky,
05:38self-catering cottages,
05:40and our finalists have one each to completely transform.
05:44There's Battery, a cosy cottage with a kitchen diner
05:47and a small separate living room,
05:49and Toll House, a higgledy-piggledy grade 2 listed building
05:53with a more open-plan living dining area.
05:56Both have panoramic views of the estuary to the south
05:59and the vibrant village to the north.
06:02There's two keys in front of you, one for each cottage.
06:06Take your pick.
06:07OK.
06:09Battery Cottage.
06:10Toll House.
06:11Do you have any advice for our finalists?
06:14Just remember, the goal is to create a destination holiday cottage
06:19that shows me who you are
06:21but also gives me that sense of this incredible village of Port Merion.
06:25Now, if you thought Port Merion was bright and vibrant,
06:28wait till you see our guest judge.
06:31The showstopper Sophie Robinson is joining us in Wales.
06:36Yes.
06:37That's very exciting.
06:38She definitely loves colour.
06:39Good luck.
06:40I will see you in Wales.
06:43Good luck.
06:44I have been to Port Merion many times
06:46because it's such an inspirational and crazy kind of place.
06:50So, I am going all out on this one.
06:52I haven't been to Port Merion before.
06:53I've just seen it in pictures.
06:55It's a beautiful place that inspires artists
06:57and then hopefully it's going to inspire me to do the best space ever.
07:01It has to be because I want to win it.
07:12What's going on?
07:13After a week of planning their designs.
07:16It's like a dream.
07:18It's amazing.
07:22Our finalists arrive in Port Merion.
07:25It doesn't feel real.
07:26I know.
07:27I know.
07:28It's magical.
07:29To take inspiration from the surreal surroundings.
07:31Everything is so bright.
07:32I feel I'm in Alice in Wonderland.
07:34Oh, yes.
07:35So, I'm going to be Alice this week.
07:36OK.
07:37And the cottage is my wonderland.
07:38Does that make me the queen of hearts?
07:39I don't know.
07:40Oh.
07:41Off with your head.
07:42Oh, my goodness.
07:43That's scary.
07:44Good luck.
07:45Come here.
07:46Good luck to us.
07:47Hey, come on.
07:48Let's go see.
07:49They have three days.
07:50Here we are.
07:52And six and a half thousand pounds.
07:55Oh, those are them.
07:56To make over these cottages.
07:59Hey.
08:00Hey, hey.
08:01Hello.
08:02And they're getting a little help from their friends.
08:05Oh, yes.
08:07Rita's reuniting with super stylist Bryony.
08:11I'm so pleased to be back.
08:12It feels so special, doesn't it?
08:14Yeah.
08:15Yeah.
08:16Team Rita got me badge.
08:17Team Rita.
08:19And John is back with the king of colour, Craig.
08:22John's learned so much.
08:24I'm happy to be here helping bring his vision to life.
08:27Shall we have a look?
08:28Go on, come on.
08:29Each cottage is unique.
08:35Oh, look.
08:36OK.
08:37John's living and dining area is open plan.
08:40We can really make something special out of it.
08:42While Rita's is divided into smaller and separate rooms.
08:46Oh, this is so cute and small.
08:48Both have a kitchen.
08:50Big plans for a very small kitchen.
08:52Stairs and landing, as well as a single and master bedroom.
08:57Look at the view.
08:58This is what you stay here for.
09:04So, Port Merion was designed by Clough William Ballas,
09:07who's this, like, amazing architect.
09:09And the whole place is inspired by Portofino and the Mediterranean.
09:13So, that's the vibe I'm going for.
09:15Which I think is perfect.
09:16I've got a lot of pattern and colour going on here.
09:18Yeah.
09:19It's such an over-the-top place.
09:20Yeah.
09:21That should be reflected in here.
09:22Can't wait to get out of here.
09:23I know.
09:24I know.
09:25I'm excited to do it.
09:26Here we go.
09:27Wowee.
09:28I would like to bring the outside inside,
09:31but more pastel rather than strong colours.
09:34So, it's more Rita.
09:35It's more Rita, yeah.
09:36Because I think when you're on holiday, you want to feel calm as well.
09:39I'm designing a British cottage.
09:41Because back home in Lebanon, we think all British people live in cottages like this.
09:47Like, cute little, cosy, romantic.
09:50So, I want to bring a countryside feel into the cottage.
09:54Just like what I used to see in movies.
09:56I'm bringing it to reality.
09:58Et voilà !
09:59This is the plan.
10:00Et voilà !
10:01To help bring their designs to life...
10:05Hello!
10:06Hello!
10:07Hello!
10:08The finalists have two carpenters and three decorators each.
10:12So, the vibe I'm going for really in here is Mediterranean.
10:17Lots of colour going in here.
10:19Lots of pattern in the living room.
10:21On the walls, it's going to be red.
10:23And then there are going to be frames of gorgeous wallpaper.
10:27John's framed wallpaper featuring Amalfi Lemons, gargoyles and a checkerboard pattern will sit on his living room's cranberry red walls.
10:36He's echoing this red in his striped furniture and adding a coffee table topped with his statement wallpaper.
10:43In the separate kitchen, he's painting the cabinets a rich Mediterranean blue and the plain tiles will be covered with a blue patterned vinyl.
10:52In the dining area, he's adding a new table and chairs, which will be painted yellow to match a modernist geometric paper above the dado.
11:01Below, he's adding shiplap panelling.
11:04We're blessed with this gorgeous shiplap on these walls.
11:07I want to add a little bit more in.
11:09So, up to a kind of dado height, wrapping it around this dining area.
11:13Because, obviously, it just leads right through.
11:16Maybe we should start.
11:17Yes!
11:18Make a start!
11:26I've never done shiplap before.
11:29So, they're individual planks and then they have a bit that kind of slots inside the back of the other one.
11:36And it adds a kind of layer of texture and interest.
11:39While John uses shiplap to connect his dining room to his living room.
11:43Really pleased with that.
11:47This looks amazing.
11:48Rita is going all out to separate hers from her kitchen.
11:52I wanted to have a stud wall because I wanted the dining area to feel a bit more special and separate.
11:57What am I doing with this?
11:59So, my idea was to have this piece of timber going across between the new stud wall and this corner here.
12:06Okay.
12:07So, I'm going to look like a beam.
12:08Yeah, like a beam.
12:09Where I come from in Lebanon, the design of houses does not involve beams.
12:14So, this is for me really exciting because, like, I can make all my dream come true.
12:19There's someone else.
12:20There's something else.
12:21There's something else.
12:22There's something else.
12:23Rita and her family settled in the UK 18 years ago, having lived in four other countries after fleeing the war in her childhood home of Lebanon.
12:31I feel it's the first time in my life I feel settled in a country.
12:35It's in the UK where I express myself as a woman, as an artist and now as a designer. I love it.
12:40What are you thinking for your final design?
12:43I just want to make it look nice and cozy.
12:47So, I owe a lot to my mom because she wanted a better life for us.
12:51I would like her to feel very proud of all the sacrifices she had to do for me to be here and live my dream.
12:58We are in the final now. I'm so proud of you, daughter.
13:02I see Rita to be the best interior designer in the world. I am her mom. I think that. And I hope that.
13:13If I compare myself from Rita week one to Rita in the final, I think I gained confidence and fear is almost gone.
13:20How are you feeling about the final?
13:22It means everything because I always wanted to be a designer.
13:26Yes. So, have five for this.
13:28Oh!
13:30Interior design, it's like a therapy that has art and creativity in it.
13:36Because you can change somebody's mood by changing their space.
13:39And that's what I would like to be known for.
13:44This is my rustic dream come true because I love mood.
13:48If I ever get married, I'm going to get married to a timber.
13:51A bit of timber.
13:55Rita's timber divider and stud wall will separate the dining area from the kitchen which she is painting entirely pastel pink.
14:03She's replacing the wall cabinets with wooden scaffolding boards and scaffold will also be used in the living room to create an open display wooden cabinet.
14:12She's painting the walls of pale butter yellow complemented with grey blue woodwork.
14:18A huge bespoke floral artwork will cover one wall and the rich jewel colours seen in the new cosy furniture are repeated in her dining room in a bold Jacobean inspired wallpaper.
14:30I love it.
14:34But you want that all blanketed please?
14:36Yeah.
14:37When I saw this wallpaper and I looked at Port Merriam buildings, I felt this wallpaper had every colour in Port Merriam and that was the starting point.
14:46So the dining area, I just want it to be a place you remember and it's the only place I've got the wallpaper because it's the centre of the cottage.
14:55This is where I picked the blue in the doors, the pinks in the kitchen.
15:00My signature style has developed because when I started it was like rustic, textural and now proudly I can add to it colour.
15:09I'm going for six colours this time but I think they will work really well together because they're all based on a pastel shade.
15:16It's so good Rita.
15:18This is so gorgeous.
15:21So yellow is the theme.
15:24Yeah.
15:25So bright and sunny and joyful.
15:26OK, lovely.
15:27John's dining room wallpaper couldn't be more different.
15:30It's a lovely print.
15:31Isn't it?
15:32So it's really kind of geometric which I love.
15:34Yeah, yeah, yeah.
15:35Right, let's do it.
15:36We're going to nail it.
15:37Well actually we'll paste it.
15:38But his statement living room wallpaper.
15:41Er, that's happening.
15:42Which ties his scheme together.
15:44No, not yet with that.
15:46Has yet to arrive.
15:49It's coming from far away.
15:50We just haven't had an update in a while as to where exactly it is.
15:54We're going to keep thinking positive it's going to be here.
15:57It's not unusual.
15:58You ought to be loved by anyone.
16:00Six hours.
16:01What a journey.
16:02I've got such a numb bum.
16:03What the?
16:04Where the hell am I?
16:05Is that a known petrol station?
16:06Oh my god, oh my god.
16:07I think I'm hallucinating.
16:08I can stop.
16:09What is this place?
16:10This makes Disney look dowdy.
16:11What a trip.
16:12What a trip.
16:13What a trip.
16:14Where the hell am I?
16:20Is that a known petrol station?
16:23Oh, my God, oh, my God!
16:25I think I'm hallucinating!
16:28I can stop!
16:30Oh, what is this place?
16:34This makes Disney look dowdy!
16:38What a trip!
16:40That's the last time I have cheese before bed.
16:50Hi, boys!
16:51Oh, hello, Alan!
16:52Oh, Craig!
16:53I thought I'd seen the last of those shorts and braces.
16:57Rock on, Tommy!
16:59So, how's he doing?
17:01He's doing amazingly, yeah.
17:02When you look outside in this amazing place, Portmoyne,
17:05and you look inside, it absolutely belongs here.
17:07And generally, within the whole space,
17:09we're looking at just a Mediterranean feel in here.
17:12Yeah, it is Mediterranean.
17:13That could be like Greece, couldn't it?
17:15Well, it could be, yeah, for sure.
17:16Which is in the Mediterranean.
17:18Yeah, thank you for that little geography lesson.
17:21So, is everything going to plan?
17:22There's a key thing that hasn't quite gone to plan.
17:24My, like, statement wallpaper hasn't arrived yet.
17:27Oh, where's it coming from?
17:29Transylvania.
17:30Who buys wallpaper from Transylvania?
17:32Well, me by mistake.
17:34Talk me through it.
17:35See, that's my wallpaper.
17:37That's the one.
17:38D-racula.
17:39Oh, he looks nice.
17:40Oh, dear.
17:41It's all the colours that I've used throughout the whole cottage
17:44come together in that wallpaper.
17:46Let's hope you get that here, if it's your statement wallpaper.
17:48John's design is very Port Merian.
17:52He's got the Mediterranean colours.
17:53Now, all he needs is his wallpaper from Transylvania.
17:56And if that doesn't turn up, it's fangs for nothing.
18:09It is like a butter.
18:11Makes you hungry.
18:13In Rita's living room...
18:14There's a scone.
18:16What is it?
18:16Things are off to a sweet start.
18:19Somebody left this scone.
18:21Yeah.
18:21They're hungry.
18:22See, I told you, it makes you hungry.
18:24Cos it's like butter.
18:26The kitchen's going the colour of sugared almonds.
18:30Hello.
18:30How's it going?
18:31All right, yeah.
18:32Just putting a coat on these.
18:33Oh, wow, it's a nice thing.
18:35It's nice and gentle.
18:37So I'm going for pastel pink,
18:40cos I want to be off the contracts to the outside,
18:42rather than just literally copying what is outside inside.
18:45When you're on holiday, I want you to feel more relaxed as well.
18:48It makes it look so cosy.
18:51While Rita chooses muted tones...
18:53Blue is the colour.
18:54It is.
18:56John's going bold.
18:58I'm so pleased with these.
18:59These tile transfers are just a really quick and easy way of changing up your tiles.
19:03They're not permanent, so if you change your mind again, you can alter them.
19:05You know, to do this space, it's 120 of these, and that's like £30, a lot cheaper than your tiles.
19:11So I think they're great.
19:12If it had been me, Challenge 1, doing that, I would be re-tiling the thing,
19:16which would have taken ages and cost a fortune.
19:18I've got a sea view, I've got my Mediterranean tiles, I've got beautiful blue units.
19:23I'm getting a whole Mediterranean vibe in here.
19:25These are just like scaffolding shelves, but once you stain them with walnuts, they look like sexy and expensive.
19:34I'm showcasing my signature style while celebrating Port Merion gorgeous environment by all the wood that I'm using.
19:42So I'm removing the top kitchen units and replacing them with like nice, chunky, rustic shelving.
19:48Rita!
19:49Hi!
19:49Look at this!
19:52So lovely and pink!
19:54Very pink!
19:55It's very pink!
19:57And the wallpaper.
19:58She's bringing all of your Rita-isms, aren't you?
20:01Rita-isms.
20:01Rita-isms, I love that!
20:03So we build that stud wall, and then I wanted a beam.
20:07And you stole that from a park bench, yes?
20:10What's that?
20:11Brenda, she loves sitting here.
20:13What?
20:14That's lovely!
20:16What's this here?
20:17Little Team Rita badges.
20:18Oh, would you like to wear a badge?
20:20This is mind games.
20:22No, no, I agree with it.
20:22I've got to be impartial.
20:24I'm like Switzerland.
20:25Give John T.
20:26Yeah.
20:27Budget.
20:29Budget.
20:30You're very tired, yeah.
20:32And on that note, you're tired and emotional.
20:35Just leave it.
20:36It's time to call it a day.
20:39End of day one, I think we've done good.
20:45See you tomorrow, you're well done, guys.
20:47I feel I'm more like a confident designer when it comes to colours.
20:51It fits the brief.
20:52It fits Port Marion.
20:54I don't have doubt.
20:56It's going to look really good.
20:58Looking good.
21:00So in terms of what I wanted to achieve today,
21:03there's obviously issues with the wallpaper,
21:04which still hasn't arrived.
21:06Let's get out of here.
21:07I know when to hit the panic button.
21:09And we're not there yet.
21:18Good luck.
21:19Good luck, guys.
21:20Day two.
21:21How exciting.
21:22Well done.
21:23Everyone just smashed it yesterday,
21:25so we need to do the same again today.
21:27Upstairs.
21:28Hiya, love.
21:33But John's living room wallpaper still hasn't arrived.
21:37It is in a van, driving around Manchester at the moment.
21:41I think my wife is genuinely worried.
21:42It's on its way to my house.
21:44It isn't ideal, but I'll do whatever it takes
21:46to make sure that wallpaper gets here.
21:48I'll see you later, love.
21:49Bye-bye.
21:50I love you.
21:51What have we got?
21:52Oh, that's pretty.
21:53My wife and kids, they mean the world to me.
21:56Without them, I couldn't have done those.
21:58Even when I'm struggling to come up with an idea
22:00for a challenge, they're like,
22:02no, come on, do it.
22:03And that's really encouraging.
22:05You're going to put other colours on it?
22:06I'm going to go orange into pink into yellow.
22:09Ah.
22:10I'm so proud of John.
22:12It's really not been easy for him juggling work,
22:15family and everything.
22:16I've often wished him goodnight,
22:18and he's been still tapping away,
22:20designing and doing stuff.
22:21So, yeah, he's definitely put his heart and salt into it.
22:24So, is this a dinosaur attacking Paul Merian?
22:27Yes.
22:27I've spent many fantastic years teaching,
22:30and they've gone on and done wonderful things.
22:32But this would be me going on
22:34and doing a wonderful thing.
22:35You're really proud of me.
22:36I keep going and doing my dreams.
22:39Oh, thank you, sweet pea.
22:41I think winning the competition
22:42would give me the self-belief
22:44that I can actually do this,
22:45give me a platform on which to build
22:47and create an identity as an interior designer.
22:50Oh, look at these windows!
22:57All of a sudden, they look completely sexy.
22:59Yeah.
22:59I mean, the view, like,
23:00you're really drawn to look at it.
23:02So, predominantly white in the master bedroom.
23:05You don't think it's a bit risky
23:06using white in a final?
23:09I mean, there's nothing wrong with that.
23:10You know, if you like white.
23:12Well...
23:13From a personal perspective,
23:15the one thing that slightly worries me
23:17is all the white.
23:19He's all about the Mediterranean vibes,
23:22but I'd probably go for the full colour option.
23:24I think I'm using the white
23:25just because it's going to make the colours pop.
23:26John's brilliant white walls and turquoise frames
23:32will be the backdrop for his showpiece blue bed
23:35with matching bedside tables
23:37that are built into a headboard.
23:39LED soft lighting will illuminate textured wall art,
23:42and to add to the Mediterranean vibe,
23:45he's building a Greek-inspired ceramics display cabinet.
23:49The blue is repeated on the bannisters
23:51and in a trompe-l'oeil wallpaper
23:53depicting plates from Sorrento Harbour.
23:56In John's single bedroom,
23:58he's using floral soft furnishings
24:00from which he's picked a flamingo pinky orange for the walls
24:03and blue alcoves,
24:05which is the same blue as his master bedroom bed frame.
24:09I have a bed to paint.
24:11And a beautiful bed.
24:12And is this in the cobalt blue?
24:14Yeah.
24:15Imagine these are going to have to be brushed,
24:17and then everything else just roll it to her.
24:19I'm about to get cracking it.
24:22Wow, what a colour.
24:25In Rita's master bedroom...
24:27I love it.
24:28..there'll be no white left in sight.
24:31I'm going for, like, cosy, romantic vibe in the cottage.
24:34Do you feel this is, like, cosy and romantic?
24:36We're booked in next weekend, aren't we, Ian?
24:38Oh, it's first booking, first booking!
24:43Rita's romantic master bedroom walls
24:45have been half-panelled with a russet red tongue-and-groove cladding
24:48and cocooned in warm, pale pink.
24:51She's adding hand-painted artwork
24:53and up-cycling second-hand finds into bedside lights,
24:57but the main feature above the bed
24:59will be two pairs of rowing oars.
25:01If you want to go kayaking, you're ready.
25:06Hi, Alan!
25:07Hey!
25:08Rita!
25:09Aura!
25:10Oh!
25:11Good one!
25:12That's a joke!
25:13That's a joke!
25:13I love it!
25:14So where are these going?
25:15We're going to try to put these oars through the hoops
25:18as I can feature wall behind the bed.
25:21I love it.
25:23All right, so...
25:24We need to find number one.
25:26I wrote it on the end.
25:27Is that one?
25:28That's three.
25:29This would make a great Saturday night game show.
25:32What's the number of my oar?
25:33I've got one.
25:34Quick, put it in the hoop.
25:36Now, would you say this is repurposing?
25:39So, yeah, repurposing,
25:40because the architect, Clough, that built Fort Marion,
25:43he was all about sustainability
25:45and reusing materials in his build.
25:48So I thought oars would be a good way
25:51to remind you of the seaside.
25:53Yes.
25:53Anything else you're repurposing?
25:54I'm repurposing these two...
25:56What are they?
25:57They used to use them for posts, as a bag,
26:01but I'm repurposing them as bedside table
26:04in the single bedroom.
26:05That's so clever.
26:07I love Rita.
26:08She's the queen of repurposing,
26:10which epitomises the whole ethos of Fort Marion.
26:14She finds bits of rubbish
26:16and turns them into these weird and wonderful objects
26:19that make for a memorable stay for guests.
26:21I'm sure she'll get five stars on Tip Advisor.
26:25Oh, look at that, Ollie.
26:37Lovely.
26:38The finalists both have stairwells and landings to transform.
26:42John, so we've run out of paper to do that wall.
26:44Right.
26:45And John's using another statement wallpaper.
26:48Have you got any good ideas?
26:49I think in the past, I fall into the trap of thinking everything has to be absolutely perfect.
26:57And actually, sometimes things can be good enough.
27:00Why don't we just cut out the plates?
27:02Stick them on that wall over there.
27:04Then we've got kind of continuity, at least, from one space to the other.
27:07Very good indeed.
27:08That's why you're in the final.
27:09Oh, here, in this place.
27:13This is orange.
27:15For her hallway, Rita's abandoned her pastel palette.
27:19So, as you can tell, you've got this, like, old-fashioned wood chip everywhere.
27:23Went for a gloss finish.
27:25So not only bright, but shiny.
27:28Give it this modern feel.
27:30Rita, I love it.
27:31It's bright, it's bold.
27:33It's really reflecting orange, or like a fake tan.
27:35Good fake tan, or...
27:36No, fake tan gone wrong, Brian, yeah.
27:40It's very bold.
27:41It's quite scary, because everything else is so pastel.
27:44I wanted it to feel like the staircase of curiosity.
27:47So I hope it's exciting, rather than,
27:49Mmm, I'm not going upstairs.
27:51It's the final.
27:52It's the time to go bold.
27:53Yeah.
27:54Yeah.
27:55Rita's gloss, orange staircase and landing leads to her single bedroom,
28:00which is half-panelled and painted in a cheerful mustard yellow.
28:05She's inserting a clothing rail, open shelving,
28:09and she's repurposing metal sailor bags into a bedside table and flower pot.
28:15She's painting the ceiling with yellow and mushroom stripes to match the walls.
28:24Oh, wow.
28:25This is really dark and green.
28:29It was meant to be like a mushroom colour.
28:32Breathe.
28:32Calm down.
28:34It's green, but it's nice green.
28:36I think sometimes Rita panics when she uses colour.
28:40She always ends up with this amazing result,
28:42but she can just forget that along the way.
28:44So I'm just here to remind her how brilliant she is.
28:46It matches what's going on outside.
28:48This is it.
28:49It's bringing it in.
28:50It's meant to do.
28:51Yeah.
28:51So aesthetic.
28:53Not aesthetic is another word.
28:54Ex-ex.
28:55It's...
28:55Ecstatic.
28:56That's it.
28:57Oh, you're ecstatic, not the aesthetic.
29:00I'm ecstatic about it.
29:02Good.
29:04Hey.
29:05Oh, this is lovely.
29:07Nice.
29:07Second coat.
29:08Fabulous.
29:09John's also ecstatic about his single bedroom.
29:12Very nice and poppy.
29:13Oh!
29:13Oh! I'm glad you're excited.
29:16I am excited.
29:17That's a helmet.
29:18You can make a piece of wood.
29:20Yeah.
29:20And we'll just cover that horrible plastic.
29:23It'll be Velcroed onto a little bit.
29:24Great!
29:25While John admires Craig's handiwork...
29:27Hello, knock, knock!
29:29Hello, come on in!
29:31Rita's invited herself over for a peek.
29:34Whoa!
29:36Very different than mine.
29:37Is it?
29:38Yes, because you went a bit brighter.
29:40And I love this idea.
29:41You took the plates from here, and it's just a bit there.
29:44You are clever.
29:46This is bright.
29:47It's very bright in there.
29:50Wow!
29:50I thought I was colourful.
29:52This is a bedroom for a child.
29:53We're going to have some florals, the curtains and the bedding.
29:57It's so joyful and fun.
29:58Well done, John.
29:59I really loved what I've seen, but I didn't feel jealous.
30:03Just because of what we've done is so different.
30:06I'm going to stay focused and positive, because I've got a lot to do.
30:09Hi, John.
30:12Hello, Alan.
30:13I've come in here, and I'm just gagging for terra misalata.
30:18It feels very Greek.
30:20I feel like Meryl Streep.
30:21Mamma mia!
30:22It's gone!
30:22Yeah!
30:23Yes!
30:24Tell me what you're doing here.
30:25So, planning out a build at the moment, Alan.
30:27Because you know I like a build.
30:28You love a build.
30:29I do.
30:30So I've got two going on in here.
30:32I've got a little build going on behind the bed.
30:34Never seen so many knobs in the bedroom.
30:36And it's going to give us some little floating shelves either side.
30:40So you've got a bedside table, then.
30:41Yeah.
30:41And then I've got this, which is going to be a kind of a fake wall with little alcoves in it.
30:47And then I've got all my kind of Mediterranean pots going in it.
30:51This is so ambitious, John.
30:53I think it's, you know, achievable, though.
30:55Time management!
30:56Time management!
30:57I've got there in the end.
30:58Well, I don't want to offend you, but being on the sofa four times, you're going to get a lot of advice.
31:05Exactly.
31:05I'm way more confident now.
31:07You'll get complete validation if you win.
31:09To win this is the dream.
31:10You could be interior design master.
31:13John Cooper, interior design master.
31:15Yeah.
31:15I like that.
31:16Yeah, that's a tattoo.
31:17We are.
31:18Maybe not.
31:19It's halfway through day two.
31:30Lovely.
31:31John's bedside table cum concealed lighting headboard is going in.
31:36Ooh, look at that line up.
31:40Absolutely perfect.
31:43The view from the master bedroom is actually the lighthouse, which is really cute.
31:47And Rita's getting artistic inspiration from the landscape.
31:51If you have an old frame, stick it on the wall and draw on your physical wall, because if you don't like it, you can put some paint and it's gone.
32:00There we go.
32:02So I've got some artwork here.
32:04It's based around texture.
32:05If I underlight it, it will showcase that texture.
32:09So it's essentially just making a white wall look a bit more interesting.
32:13Et voilà .
32:15Portmarion artwork.
32:16It's good for the time I've got.
32:28Right.
32:30Those curtains look amazing.
32:32Got the curtains up.
32:33Got the lampshade up.
32:34With John ahead of schedule, for once...
32:37Tomorrow, we can start dressing this very early.
32:40Craig's got time to check out next door.
32:43Hi!
32:43This is cute.
32:47So it's all going well?
32:48Yeah, I think so.
32:49It's a lot of paint still, because I haven't left anything white.
32:52Sounds very busy up there.
32:54Yeah.
32:55So can I go and have a look?
32:56Of course.
32:56Yeah, come on.
32:57Gosh, this is very bold.
33:05Welcome to the singing bedroom.
33:09Lovely colour.
33:10Stripey ceiling.
33:11Yeah.
33:11I've not seen that before.
33:12Yeah.
33:12Really nice.
33:13Yeah, so yeah.
33:14So I'm presuming you're putting this tongue and groove in?
33:16Yeah, and it's a bit cottagey and seaside.
33:18It looks like it's always been here.
33:20Oh, thank you.
33:21But you think you've got a lot to do, haven't you?
33:23Yeah, yeah.
33:23You too.
33:24We've actually managed to put some curtains up in one room.
33:26Oh!
33:27Yeah.
33:28So, um...
33:29All right, Craig.
33:31Well, thank you for visiting.
33:33Get out now, Craig.
33:33Can I go?
33:34I absolutely love the full colour option.
33:37But I think John's really hit the nail on the head.
33:39He's really all about balancing what's going on outside with what's going to go on inside.
33:44And I look at Rita's cottage.
33:46It's very different to this.
33:49Colour's everywhere.
33:49What, more colour than this?
33:51I mean, she made a point of saying that there is nothing white.
33:55Wow.
33:56But yeah, they've got a lot to do.
33:57They're still on painting walls.
34:00Okay, that's interesting.
34:01Yeah.
34:01End of day two, I would have loved us to be a bit more ahead.
34:07Now I'm feeling we're slightly behind, because I decided to paint every door, every wall, every ceiling.
34:21Come on.
34:23We have a lot to do.
34:24Let's go.
34:26So, first thing tomorrow, I want all the carpentry work to be done,
34:29because after lunch is all about styling and hanging things.
34:33What a day, mate.
34:35But there's a lot been done.
34:37Today's been such a good day, but just got some bad news on the wallpaper.
34:42It was out for delivery, and then they've decided to not deliver it and return to the depot.
34:49The wallpaper will get here at some point.
34:50Thanks, mate.
34:51Even if it comes right at the last minute tomorrow, it's going on then.
35:03The final of the finals.
35:05Good luck.
35:09Are we ready?
35:10Yes.
35:11CV, the bookcase to be built, please.
35:13So then, Brian, you could start with all the styling.
35:16Decorators, guess what?
35:17More painting!
35:19Yay!
35:20Let's get going.
35:26Hello.
35:27Hello.
35:29Oh, my God.
35:29We got deliveries from Transylvania.
35:32Better late than never.
35:34Right, let's have a look.
35:35John's wallpaper prayers have been answered.
35:37Oh, the suspense is just too much!
35:42That's the one!
35:43Wow.
35:44That is stunning.
35:46We've finally got it.
35:47It's worth the wait.
35:49John!
35:51Woo!
35:51It is amazing.
35:53That wallpaper is the thing that unifies everything in there.
35:55And so the fact that it's here now is incredibly exciting.
35:58Where are you planning to put it?
36:00We're going to create a framed area on there.
36:02Around that window wall, basically.
36:05Yeah, yeah.
36:05Awesome.
36:07That's it.
36:13I've first set of curtains in amongst the chaos.
36:16That's cute.
36:17Very cottage vibe.
36:19So there's chaos everywhere, but I left them to it.
36:22Rita is also using a frame to make a statement in a living room.
36:26I like to draw when it's chaos.
36:28With an enormous flower.
36:30Tip of the day.
36:32If you would like a giant frame and you cannot afford,
36:36you can buy skirting boards, and if you cut them to size,
36:39you can have this beautiful, chunky frame.
36:41I wanted every time you turn around the cottage
36:44to see something exciting on a wall.
36:46I love it.
36:47Do we have more wood?
36:50To add to the cottage vibe...
36:52One more length and a few offcuts.
36:54Rita's designed a bookcase out of scaffold boards.
36:57Do you think I have enough to have another small shelf on the bottom?
37:01Oh, yeah.
37:01I thought, instead of buying a bookcase,
37:04I would like to bring rustic wood and turn it into bookcase,
37:08and that will make the space even warmer as well.
37:11That's cute, isn't it?
37:12Yeah.
37:12It's very pretty.
37:16It's here, at last.
37:18Oh!
37:19I was expecting fangs and blood and a cross.
37:22No, it's far more joyful than that.
37:23Yeah!
37:24I'm loving it!
37:25Oh, thanks, Alan.
37:25Just move it over here for now.
37:33All right?
37:33Yeah!
37:34Perfect!
37:35With just a few hours to go...
37:37I'm thinking I'm going to push it right that way.
37:40It's time to get furnishing.
37:42I'm debobbling all the bits and bobs.
37:45I think they've been pre-loved by some cats.
37:48So Clough is known to kind of repurpose old buildings,
37:50and I, again, want to pay homage to that.
37:53I haven't bought new sofas, same with my armchairs.
37:55So there is sustainability playing a part in this stuff.
37:59Oh!
38:00Ah!
38:02Are you OK?
38:03I banged my head on the leg.
38:05My furniture is quite bright.
38:07Ooh!
38:08Ooh!
38:09Because I wanted it to be, like, cottagey, backslash modern.
38:13This feels really cosy.
38:15Oops.
38:17All right, we'll go.
38:20I brought back some of the furniture that was here,
38:23because sometimes if you don't need to buy something new
38:26for the sake of it, don't buy it.
38:31Rita's also keeping the existing dining table.
38:35This is hard work to incite you.
38:36But it will be worth it,
38:37cos it was quite yellowy with this varnish.
38:41There we go.
38:43Can we talk about that colour in there?
38:46Do you like it?
38:47It's like travelling through a packet of watts, it's...
38:50LAUGHTER
38:50Come on, come on!
38:53One out to go!
38:54Hooray!
38:55Hooray!
38:56Oh, yes, this is my favourite part.
38:59When you just throw it all out.
39:01So, this is the basket.
39:12If you flip it around,
39:14it's a gorgeous light fitting.
39:22MUSIC PLAYS
39:23Do you want me to pop a chocolate there?
39:26No.
39:27What, don't chocolate on bed in?
39:28Well, that's what they do in hotels.
39:31I'm not the posh.
39:32I'm going to get you a chocolate.
39:33Get one for myself.
39:39Ooh!
39:39Yeah, it's good, isn't it?
39:40Really nice.
39:43Time's ticking, ladies!
39:54MUSIC PLAYS
39:55Ooh, John.
39:56Hey, hey, Greg.
39:57I think we're done.
39:58I love it.
39:59We've done this.
40:00Well done.
40:01Goodness.
40:02So, you really nailed it.
40:04Thanks, Mike.
40:05Thank you so much.
40:07Team Rika!
40:13The guest judge for the final
40:15is interior's expert and colour queen,
40:18Sophie Robinson.
40:19Sophie, come on, this has got to be, like,
40:22Sophie Robinson's happy place.
40:23This is literally the dream, isn't it?
40:26Look at all this colour.
40:27Sophie is known for her love of maximalism.
40:31So, no better judge for Port Merion.
40:34When I walk into these holiday cottages,
40:36I want to feel completely transported.
40:39This isn't home from home.
40:40This is going somewhere really, really magical.
40:42Well, this is all about dreaming big, isn't it?
40:44Yes.
40:44I mean, what a vision.
40:46So, come on, I want to see all the colour,
40:47all the pattern,
40:48so it can match the energy and wonder
40:50of the rest of the village.
40:51Being here in Port Merion,
40:53it's like stepping into a dream world.
40:56The challenge, of course, for our finalists
40:58is how do you channel that magic?
41:01And I've asked them to show me an element
41:02of their signature style.
41:04This is not the time for holding back.
41:07I'm so happy with the space that I've created.
41:13I hope that when the judges walk in there,
41:16that they're transported into the Mediterranean.
41:18This is my chance to prove that I can be an interior designer.
41:21Oh!
41:32So, this is John's holiday cottage.
41:35I'm just seeing real confidence here, Michelle.
41:38We've got a very bold colour palette,
41:40but he hasn't stopped there.
41:41We've also got lots of pattern to delight the eye as well.
41:43I love how he's framed that window
41:45and then put the pattern behind it.
41:47And we've got all kinds of, like, gargoyles
41:49and lemons and flowers and, like, the chessboard.
41:52So, that's really connecting to what's going on outside,
41:55which is really clever.
41:56I agree.
41:56Putting the same pattern on the coffee table
41:58is maybe over-egging it a little bit.
42:00I would like to have seen another pattern.
42:01Really? Even with the stripes on all the chairs and the sofa?
42:04Yeah!
42:04Oh, interesting.
42:06I quite like the fact that these are high-back armchairs
42:08because in an open-plan space,
42:09it can be quite difficult to create a nice, cosy, intimate setting.
42:13In the dining room, he's taken the language
42:15of the original shiplap,
42:17but then used it just to frame this area.
42:21And yet it just fits so seamlessly.
42:24And yellow is just the colour
42:25for creating a happy, convivial, jolly feeling.
42:30100%, love it.
42:31Oh, my goodness.
42:38This blue is really zingy.
42:40I'm transported to the Mediterranean.
42:42How clever that he's done a minimal maximal makeover,
42:46minimal that he's painted cupboards
42:48and put stickers over the tiles.
42:50No.
42:51John has really now learnt
42:53that he can get the look that he wants,
42:55but it doesn't have to take him ages.
42:57Oh, the money.
42:58I mean, this is a budget makeover,
43:00but it looks really, really quality.
43:05Oh, Sophie.
43:13I haven't noticed the room yet, Michelle.
43:14It's all about the view.
43:16But framed in the turquoise,
43:19which actually super lifts the whole thing.
43:22Isn't this a lovely little move?
43:24This is a nod to the architecture
43:25that we're seeing outside,
43:26these little archways.
43:28Look at this headboard
43:30with the integrated side tables.
43:32That is a tour de force, is it not?
43:34I don't think I've sort of seen something like this
43:35because the bed has a headboard,
43:37but then he's added another headboard
43:39and backlit it,
43:40which is actually quite a complex idea.
43:42He's given us loads of texture.
43:44I love the idea that he's brought the texture
43:47even into the art,
43:48but I find myself somehow wanting them
43:50either to be bigger
43:51or that it's across the whole bed.
43:53I think his choice of this pure, brilliant white
43:58is really working today.
44:00We've got amazing sunshine.
44:03The danger with this colour choice
44:04is come autumn, winter,
44:07this colour white is going to turn to grey,
44:09and I think this room will feel really chilly.
44:11There is great bravery in not feeling compelled
44:15to plaster every wall with pattern or colour.
44:17Do you?
44:18I do.
44:18There's an argument for that, do you?
44:20I'll arm wrestle you over it.
44:22I know.
44:22You're the true maximus.
44:24Just more, more, more.
44:25Layer, layer, layer.
44:25I mean, he's really had some fun
44:34sourcing some wallpapers for this project.
44:37And what's clever is then I see echoes of it
44:40as I look along the landing.
44:42It's good to see repetition
44:44because it makes the whole space feel coherent.
44:47I am being absolutely hit
44:57with the dose of the feel-good vibes
44:59with this lovely sherbet-y orange colour.
45:01So happy.
45:02I love this very cute little print.
45:05It's on the curtains, the bed, the cushion.
45:08There's enough happening here,
45:09but this one coordinates perfectly.
45:12I would love to bring friends and family here,
45:14and ultimately, I guess that proves the success.
45:18Shall we dance some more?
45:19Yes, let's.
45:25I give this cottage my everything.
45:28I'm crying because I'm so happy.
45:29It looks so good.
45:31It feels so cosy and nice.
45:33I hope Michelle will see that.
45:42Blouses.
45:43This is...
45:44A lot more muted, isn't it?
45:46It's very restful.
45:47Kitchen.
45:48The pale pinks.
45:49There's a very quite light touch here,
45:52but then a contrast with the scaffold planks.
45:55Well, it's quite rustic and vintage-y.
45:57Rita is the queen of finding new uses for things.
46:01So I love the insertion of this huge piece of timber
46:04to make the division between the kitchen and the dining room.
46:07It just feels gorgeous.
46:09I rather love the massive basket over the dining table.
46:13Well, it's unexpected, and I think this brief, to me,
46:17is yearning for the designers to be a bit unexpected.
46:20You've got the wallpaper, which is kind of exciting and vibrant,
46:23and an absolutely exquisitely dressed table,
46:27and all looking out across the nature.
46:29It's perfect.
46:30I feel a lot more energy and attention has gone down there,
46:33and maybe she was right to do that,
46:34cos that's the main focal point of this room, isn't it?
46:37So this is just as important.
46:39This is your first expression of what this cottage is about.
46:42A bit underwhelming.
46:43Well, this half, a little bit.
46:46But let's go check out the living area.
46:56Oh, I think I'm going to sit myself down.
46:59It's a beautiful space.
47:01It's just kept the original furniture in the dining room,
47:03but then introduced the kind of much more jewel colours here.
47:07It's really quite lovely.
47:08In terms of an all-year-round, cosy, cocooning, inviting feel,
47:14I think she's absolutely nailed the colour palette.
47:16I like the introduction of this almost, like,
47:18ticking fabric for the curtains,
47:19cos that's very country cottage-y.
47:22This, framing you, Michelle,
47:24is this incredible oversized piece of artwork,
47:28which I can tell she's made herself.
47:29It's excellent, and it makes a real statement.
47:32It's extraordinary.
47:33This wall is broken up quite well with display.
47:36It's nice to see that she's used the scaffold boards,
47:39which, you know, continues from the kitchens.
47:41Also, it does make a lovely tableau
47:43that she's incredibly good at out of this whole wall.
47:56I love it!
47:58You're on holiday.
47:59You want to exhale, drop your bags, and relax.
48:03And this room, through its warm, cocooning colour palette,
48:07the textures on the bed,
48:09yeah, I can't wait to get in and curl up with a good book.
48:11This whole statement is just kind of glorious.
48:15She's not really looking towards Portmarion Village.
48:18She's looking out to sea.
48:19We've got the fishing baskets, the oars.
48:20They're some lovely original ideas.
48:22I mean, it's quirky, it's bonkers, but it really works.
48:26From the beautifully framed picture
48:28that I imagine she's drawn herself,
48:30so she's, you know, picked out a little bit
48:32of the iconic architecture.
48:34Quite witty, isn't it?
48:34Yeah, and then she's actually kept, though,
48:37all the original furniture on the other side of the room.
48:39I think it's really good to reuse things.
48:41Maybe just some lovely sheepskin
48:43over those armchairs to soften them.
48:46I feel like the black kind of kills off
48:48this lovely, cosy cottage vibe for me.
48:51Oh, wow, this is pretty impactful.
48:54It's a gorgeous colour.
48:56And look, it's gloss.
48:58It's reflecting all the light.
49:00And actually, do you know what as well?
49:01Really practical, because you've got lots of people
49:02bashing up with luggage.
49:04It's much more durable.
49:09What a happy room!
49:12You look outside the window,
49:13and this mustard yellow is right there
49:16on the buildings.
49:17She's panelled the whole of the room,
49:20which is absolutely beautiful.
49:22It just feels a little bit more unusual.
49:24Some really interesting visual references
49:26and styling moments.
49:27Bold stripes on the ceiling.
49:29It's elevating your experience in here.
49:31I think that's what I might have liked
49:33to have seen a little bit more of downstairs,
49:35cos that tells me,
49:36oh, you're somewhere a little bit quirky.
49:38I am super excited to meet the people
49:41who've created these holiday cottages.
49:43I feel John has been looking towards
49:45the village,
49:46this kind of slightly quirky
49:47Mediterranean influence.
49:49And yet Rita has looked to the amazing
49:52coastal countryside view.
49:54So one's looking that way,
49:56one's looking that way.
49:57Who's got it right?
50:01It's the finalist's last chance
50:03to convince Michelle and Sophie
50:05that they should be the winner.
50:07Rita, congratulations.
50:17What an amazing transformation.
50:20So tell us a little bit about your inspiration
50:22for your holiday cottage.
50:23I wanted to bring the outdoors indoors,
50:27but I wanted it to be a bit more muted,
50:29cos I want people to feel cosy, relaxed,
50:32a bit of romance,
50:34cos that's how I see British cottages.
50:36Those lovely, warm russets
50:38absolutely delivered that feeling.
50:41So lovely use of repurposing.
50:44I wanted people to remember one object
50:46at least in every room.
50:48These were the moments of joy and intrigue
50:51that I think Port Merion
50:51is a real sort of part of this destination.
50:55Something unexpected.
50:56Yeah.
50:57What would it mean to you if you won?
50:59So winning for me would mean obviously a lot.
51:03If you believe you want to do it,
51:05it doesn't matter what age or where you're from.
51:10Yeah, it would mean everything.
51:11You are already a complete inspiration.
51:17Right now after the feedback,
51:19I feel very emotional
51:20because it's been the best eight weeks of my life.
51:24This competition gave me this massive boost
51:26to start to believe in myself
51:28that I could create spaces that people will love.
51:31This is the essence of what I always wanted.
51:35Hi.
51:37Hi.
51:38John, how are you feeling?
51:40I feel over the moon, actually.
51:42The blossoming of your confidence
51:45is just the most exhilarating thing to see.
51:49I thought that kitchen makeover was a masterpiece.
51:52Change the cupboard colour
51:54and those genius tar stickers.
51:55We wanted to come from this magical village
51:58into this magical holiday cottage
52:00and the narrative continued and you nailed it.
52:03I know if I'd done that kind of challenge one,
52:05I'd have been there like taking tiles off
52:07and putting new ones on them.
52:08I was going to say,
52:09because that was your big learning curve, wasn't it?
52:11Because you weren't short of ambition,
52:13but you just couldn't get the stuff done in the time.
52:16Certainly the last two challenges,
52:18because that's not been the case.
52:20What would it mean to you if you won?
52:23If I won, it would be every bit of validation I ever needed.
52:28You know, I've spent such a long time now,
52:3118 years teaching children design and following their dreams.
52:35And I think I'm exemplifying that now.
52:43Wow, that was amazing.
52:44This sofa chat was different to the others.
52:48This was the most lovely sofa chat I've grown.
52:52Yeah, I can call myself a designer now.
52:54It blows my mind.
52:55I have now got to get really nitty-gritty
52:59about what was on the brief,
53:01and that's the only thing that can determine the winner.
53:07Hey, guys!
53:09The previous designers have arrived in Port Merion
53:12to give their critique of the finalist's work.
53:15Here we go.
53:16Oh, my God.
53:17Oh, my God, I'm actually gobsmacked.
53:22This is bald, isn't it?
53:24Wow.
53:25This is gorgeous.
53:27John could definitely win this.
53:28You can see, like, the evolution of their design style.
53:32It's amazing.
53:32So this is Reacher's Cottage.
53:34Very nice.
53:35Oh.
53:36Oh, wow.
53:37I love the dining area.
53:38So cozy.
53:39I love that.
53:40I love the wallpaper.
53:41If I was on holiday makeup,
53:42I'd probably choose Reacher's,
53:44because I found it slightly more restful.
53:47Well done, girl.
53:48Feels very Tuscany in here.
53:50And that is obviously in keeping with Port Merion.
53:52Exactly.
53:53I think John could win.
53:55And the details with, like, the taste of Italy in the wallpaper,
53:59it just felt perfect.
54:01Oh, that's a bit of luxe, isn't it?
54:03Yeah.
54:03That's lovely.
54:04I love that.
54:04Love the oars, aren't they?
54:06Oh.
54:07I love it.
54:08So clever.
54:10I think Rita's got a really good chance of winning this.
54:12So cozy.
54:13You just want to spend all day in her cottage.
54:15Yeah.
54:16It's really nice.
54:17It feels like someone's actual bedroom.
54:19It's very comfy.
54:20Mm.
54:20Rita actually had very similar, like, fitting.
54:23Yeah, it is similar.
54:24What a transformation John and Rita have done within those cottages.
54:29They both should be so proud.
54:30Ooh!
54:32Look, the orange.
54:33Glossy.
54:34Isn't it stunning?
54:36I really can't call these going to win.
54:38It's a tough one.
54:39I want to be Michelle.
54:40After eight weeks, the time has come to reveal the winner.
54:50Hello.
54:51Hi.
54:52So lovely to see you again.
54:55So, what do you think of Port Merriots?
54:57Amazing.
54:58It's like being in a dream, isn't it?
54:59Yes.
55:00Let's welcome back Rita and John.
55:04I am so very proud of both of you.
55:17And there's no doubt that you will both go on to have extraordinary careers.
55:22After much deliberation, a decision has been made.
55:26And the winner of Interior Design Masters is...
55:34John.
55:39Oh!
55:39Well done.
55:47I've just won Interior Design Masters.
55:52Oh, my goodness.
55:53Congratulations.
55:54You did it.
55:56When my students see this, I hope, you know, it inspires them.
56:00You know, my ambition is boundless right now.
56:02There's so much I want to do.
56:04And this feels like that first step.
56:09You're incredible.
56:10What a talent.
56:11I feel amazing.
56:13Because I'm so proud of myself.
56:15I'm proud of John.
56:16Cheers to John.
56:18And cheers to me for a great future.
56:20I think this is just the beginning.
56:23I loved it.
56:24Two extremely talented, creative designers.
56:33But John clinched up.
56:34His space really mirrored the magical eccentricity of Port Merion.
56:38And he's created a really special, uplifting, joyful space for people to create happy memories.
56:44A key part of this brief was to capture the essence of this incredible, magical, mystical place.
56:53And John did that using colour, pattern, texture, and design.
56:57I'm so proud of you.
57:00You've done amazing.
57:02I've actually done it.
57:05I'm an interior designer.
57:08LAUGHTER
57:09Oh, my goodness.
57:12Cheers.
57:13Cheers.
57:13Cheers.
57:18LAUGHTER
57:18This is life-changing.
57:23Changes everything.
57:24What's going on?
57:26LAUGHTER
57:26LAUGHTER
