Kinds of Kindness - interview with Joe Alwyn and Mamoudou Athie
Transcript
00:00Joe, one of the scenes that like really shook me when I was watching the movie was the scene in the second part where Jesse's character shoots your character's hand.
00:09I was wondering if you could break down what it was like filming that scene and what you guys talked about when it came to how you all reacted to that moment going down.
00:17It was a joy.
00:19I had a long one to happen.
00:21It was, yeah, but, you know, it was pretty fun.
00:24Yeah, it's not every day you get shot in the hand and then licked by Jesse Plemons.
00:33But it was great.
00:34You have, you know, there was in technical terms, you have like a, I guess, a rig of a tube that runs up your body and down your arm.
00:41And I think they did actually make a prosthetic arm for me.
00:43I remember going in for tests for that, but it wasn't used in the end.
00:47And the tube gets kind of somehow disguised on your hand.
00:51And then, you know, he pulls the trigger.
00:53Someone steps in a pump.
00:56And the rest is magic.
00:57Dude, also, Jesse's so strong.
01:00Like when I was trying to pull him off, I couldn't move him.
01:04He's weirdly strong.
01:05It's such a visceral thing that happens afterward.
01:07And then he decides to lick your hand.
01:09What went into that decision?
01:10Was it scripted or was it something you guys came up with on the day?
01:13That was definitely scripted.
01:15I should say that wasn't scripted.
01:17You know what, that wasn't scripted.
01:19That took me by surprise.
01:21And I'm still getting out of that.
01:23I can't buy.
01:36I can't buy.
01:37I can't buy.
01:38I can't buy.
