00:00say is the secret to your marriage and how did you overcome challenges that kind of came your

00:05way? What would you say was your biggest key in that period of your life? The big thing for me

00:11was it's impossible to love someone and control them at the same time. And what we think is love

00:19tends to be disguised as control. And it's really wild because for years I remember not being loving

00:31and being controlling. And my wife called me on it. This is the thing that helped us get to the next

00:39level where people try to, they think that you never really have difficult conversations or

00:45arguments and all the things. But those things make you better. You have to have those things.

00:50You have to go through these things. The only way out is through. And when I hear things about people

00:55having never arguing, I know that, you know, they probably aren't going to be together too long.

01:01I'll be honest. Right. And once we started to get real about everything and how we felt about

01:07everything, now there's no mysteries. You know what I mean? Because again, like I said about it earlier,

01:13it's really about finding out what it is you need. What does she need? And how can I provide that?

01:20And she did the same thing for me. She's like, what does he need? And how can I be the person

01:25that gives that to him? And let me tell you, after 36 years, it's better than ever. You know,

01:31I can easily say we're going to live, we're going to go on to eternity. That's my plan.

01:38I love that. Do you love this phase of marriage in your life too? Your kids are older.

01:42I know you have a grandchild as well. I mean, life must just be so much fun right now.

01:47Oh man. The phase is kids are gone and they're out. They're big, they're grown. They can make

01:53their own decisions. And you know, a friend of mine told me this. He said, hey man, you did it.

01:58I was like, what do you mean? He said, dude, that's it. You did it. They're alive. They're living.

02:04They're past 19. And hey man, you got five kids and you did it. You just want to keep them alive

02:11so they can go live their own lives. You know what I mean? And it hit me. I was like, wow,

02:17that's what it is. You know, because it's another thing, you know, parenting has a limit,

02:23you know, I'm done. I'm not a parent anymore. You know, now I'm an advisor. I'm a friend.

02:30You know, sometimes I'm a financier. The relationship changes because it's different.

02:39And now my wife and I, we can just pick up, we can go wherever we want. We can do what we want.

02:44And I'd say this, my wife has really attacked this in so many ways. She wrote books. She has a

02:52clothing line. She started a church. I mean, she's done so many things simply because now she knew

03:01she had to replace the kids with her dreams and she never neglected herself. And I think that's

03:07wonderful.
