Transcript
00:00okay so this is the race control this is where everything happens once uh well about two two
00:05and a half hours before roads close so so i sit here um next door to me is the is the famous or
00:12infamous laptop and obviously we've got 41 digital flags now around the course and in a red flag
00:18situation this is where i operate the digital red flags from uh that that are lighted around the
00:24course um equally at the same time on my left is the the elite dispatch gary heinz it's here at the
00:31league dispatch and when a marshal uh pushes the red the orange button on his radio that uh brings
00:38up an alert system on the on the on this console gary then automatically shout us immediately
00:44shouts incident the whole room comes to a quiet uh we're then uh on on his console on his monitor
00:52it tells us where the incident is so he confirms that the incident's taken place
00:57um you know and there's four questions basically do they need a race stop um is it safe to continue
01:03do they need any medical assistance do they need air med and uh and once that's the information
01:09we've got the information uh obviously if it is a race stop i hit the hit the button on the on the
01:14laptop uh he gives the uh uh the announcement to the course all sectors all sectors red flag red flag
01:21red flag that's then repeated so like a like a mayday signal so if they they've got bikes going
01:28past them so if they miss if they miss that first time they'll pick it up the second um he then passes
01:33that uh incident to one of three controllers so we've got controller one controller one elaine brown
01:40who who manages controls sectors one to four so that's from the start line through to the end of
01:45cronky uh sorry to uh cronky body crossroads we've got uh controller two harry barton he he controlled
01:53manages from uh uh cronky body crossroads to ramsay hairpin and we've got controller three uh chris ward
02:02who manages basically the mountain section so from ramsay hairpin across the mountain back round to the
02:06start line uh we then have uh lizzie kinvig lizzie kinvig is we've got two deputy clerks of the course so
02:14liz is one of the deputies uh we've got the event logist sits here so everything that any decision
02:19i make anything that's said in race control any retirements any details of the incident
02:24any incident that takes place uh pam redmayne the event longest takes all those details
02:30we've then got roger brown who coordinates the movements of the course cars and the traveling
02:35marshals and obviously he comes through me so i'm the only one who can give authorization for
02:40anybody to enter the tt course but once that authorization is given roger then coordinates
02:45those movements we've been we've then got the serious incident reporting officer so inevitably
02:51you know unfortunately if we do have a serious incident um this guy sat here from crown limited
02:57we've engaged crown limited fantastic bunch of guys all ex coppers but um they are they then are
03:04responsible for uh writing any reports for uh our insurers you know the coroner etc etc and then next
03:11to me here is the uh john barton the uh the other deputy clerk of the course john's also the event safety
03:18officer and course inspection officer so he'll do the um uh the pre-practice qualifying race uh course
03:24inspection and uh considering we're lucky to have john really i mean he's he was uh competing around the
03:30tt course for 33 years and and uh retired last year or not last year the year before so to have
03:36somebody of john's experience in race control uh giving us the riders perspective is um is you know
03:42it's it's pretty good actually then over on the right we've got um ed wilson who uh is the uh represents
03:51promoter body liaises direct with green light um and both uh uh and just any press releases for uh to go
03:59out we've then got victoria giles vicky giles and she updates all the the website content and we've
04:06got brenda crellin brenda crellin is the family's uh welfare officer and obviously she liaises with
04:11her with the families in the event of any incident taking place then over on the left we've got uh the
04:19chief medical officer or deputy chief medical officer dr sally simmons uh we've got her uh her deputy who
04:26assists uh with uh paperwork and all this sort of stuff um just helps you know particularly through
04:31when an incident takes place uh we've got the retirements uh desk here so any any competitor
04:40who stops anywhere on the course um obviously once they've stopped on the course people back here at
04:44the grandstand are gonna want to know what's going on so um you know hopefully most of the time it's
04:50they've stopped because of mechanical issues but the retirements lady either sarah moore or millie
04:55kinvig they'll radio down to the race office or telephone down to the race office and let them
05:00know who the rider is why they've stopped so then that message can be passed on to the
05:04uh the families around the grandstand um and then on the left hand side of the race control we've got
05:10the various emergency services so we've got um we've got the uh senior fire officer senior police
05:17officer the police constable and then we've got um representatives from the ambulance service who
05:22obviously then liaise very closely with uh dr sally simmons then in terms of display we've got the
05:29two the two big two big screens left and far right and they they they have obviously got a map of the
05:37tt course and on those two big screens the same as what i've got on my uh monitor in front of me
05:43is the tracking system so once any competitor leaves the grandstand we can see is a motorcycle
05:51tracking around the tt course and then if i need to deploy any um any non-racing vehicles onto the
05:59course whether that's traveling marshall bikes course cars emergency vehicles whatever that will
06:04show them tracking around the tt course as well and then the bank of tv bank of tvs across the top
06:10that's uh that's uh the green light coverage so for the tt we're very fortunate we've got a live
06:15coverage of uh the uh practice qualifying and race sessions uh a live feed into race control um also
06:24the static static individual cameras and we've also got uh the ability to have um a feeding from the
06:30from the two tv helicopters which is really really useful and then underneath the bank of four cameras
06:37we've got the static cc tv cameras around the tt course which is obviously very helpful for the tt
06:43but really coming to their own for the match grand prix and classic tt with when we haven't got the tv
06:47coverage so um yeah that gives me extra visibility because before all this was put in place the only
06:54bit of the tt course i could see was from the start line to the end of pit lane and uh to just see
07:00just have visibility of 300 meters out of a 37 and three quarter mile course um this has been a a huge
07:07huge uh enhancement and it gives it gives us in uh race control more visibility and obviously we can
07:15manage incidents much better absolutely and this place will be heaving with people very shortly yeah
07:20yeah we've got um so uh any on any session whether it be practice qualifying or race uh session we have
07:2723 people up in race control uh managing managing the racing aspect of the event
