00:00Here to give out the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the National Arts Centre,
00:05please welcome 12-time Juno Award winner, the incomparable Sarah McLachlan.
00:30Thank you, thank you so much. Tonight, I have the distinct honor of presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to a true icon,
00:40a woman who has inspired so many of us with her artistry, her unique voice, and her confidence to do it her own way.
00:48There is no one like her. Everyone knows Anne Murray, and everyone loves her.
00:56Even Stewie from Family Guy couldn't resist her and her wicked sense of humor.
01:02Anne and I are both from the East Coast, and I've always felt a kindred spirit in her.
01:07A shared desire to pursue our dreams, but on our own terms.
01:12Her songs were the soundtrack of my childhood, and I still know the words to everyone.
01:17The beautiful, simple beauty of Snowbird.
01:21The innocence of Danny's song, and the unconditional love of You Needed Me.
01:27Anne's a pioneer, a trailblazer, and her calm Canadiana presence belied a grit and confidence that helped her lead the way.
01:36She was the very first Vegas headliner to refuse to work two shows a night, agreeing to only one, so that she could focus on her family.
01:45Her bold stance led the way for other artists like Dolly Parton and Elvis Presley to follow suit.
01:53Anne still holds the honor for having won the most Juno Awards ever.
02:00She is a living legend, a true maverick, our North Star.
02:10And tonight we celebrate her with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
02:14We thank Anne for everything she did to build Canada's star system, and for opening doors for so many young women who followed.
02:23Let's look at her story.
02:25Ladies and gentlemen, the recipient of more Junos than any other Canadian, please welcome that wacky Snowbird herself, Miss Anne Murray.
02:35The Juno goes to...
02:37Anne Murray.
02:38Anne Murray.
02:39Anne Murray.
02:40Anne Murray.
02:41Anne Murray.
02:42New kind of feeling, Anne Murray.
02:44Anne Murray.
02:45Since she began her career in 1968, Anne has won a record-setting 25 Juno Awards.
02:50The newest member of the Juno Hall of Fame, Anne Murray.
02:54Her contributions to Canadian music and culture have been endless, earning her the prestigious Order of Canada.
03:00With 32 studio albums and over 55 million records sold worldwide, she conquered the charts and put Canadian music on the map.
03:08I'm happy to say that it all started here in Canada.
03:11Anne's career began with an audition for Sing-Along Jubilee.
03:15I was in second year college, and I thought, well, that'd be great for a summer job.
03:19You know, can't beat that, singing for a living.
03:22Oh, what a lark.
03:23She made the show, and in 1970, burst onto the charts in both Canada and the USA with Snowbird.
03:29Beneath its snowy metal, cold and plain.
03:33I was the first Canadian female single artist to sell a million copies of a record in the U.S.
03:41Snowbird changed my life.
03:43People smile and tell me I'm the lucky one.
03:47Anne achieved a string of number one hits on the country charts, but she never thought of herself as just a country singer.
03:54In Canada, I think that I've been accepted since the very beginning as a singer.
03:59In the U.S., they're bound and determined they're going to categorize me, and I will not let them.
04:04Somehow you needed me.
04:08You Needed Me won Song of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards.
04:14It got the Grammy in the pop category and was number one on Billboard.
04:19You Needed Me catapulted my career to a whole new level.
04:23Anne's success on both country and pop charts was unparalleled.
04:27Her star power continued to grow and left a lasting legacy for Canadian artists who followed.
04:33I want to sing you a love song.
04:39I want to rock you in my arms all night long.
04:44Anne-Marie, what a legend! Everybody, please!
04:48I would like to say thank you to Anne-Marie who started everything.
04:53Yes, thank you.
04:54He opened so many doors for Ross.
04:56Anne, thank you.
