00:00There's a song that I'm particularly fond of, and normally we're a, I'm sure you may not know, you may know, we're normally a dance band and we play quite a lot of dance music, and this is a particular favourite waltz that goes back a long, long time, which is associated with Ennis down in County Clare, and with the famous Irish clown Johnny Patterson, and it's a lovely song called The Stone Outside Dan Murphy's Door.
00:30There's a sweet garden spot in my memory, it's the place I was born in my prayer, about as long years ago since I left there, but return there I will if I'm spared.
01:00My friends and companions of childhood would gather each night near a store, round Dan Murphy's shop, and as often we sat on the store and outside Dan Murphy's door.
01:16These days in our hearts we would cherish, contented although we were poor, and the songs that were sung in the days we were young, on the store and outside Dan Murphy's door.
01:33Each night after work we would go there, in the winter or spring just the same.
01:50And the boys and the girls all together, would indulge in some innocent games.
01:59Dan Murphy would take down his bill, while his daughter looked after the store.
02:06sweet music would ring, sweet songs that we'd sing in on the store and outside Dan Murphy's door.
02:12Sweet music and songs would ring, sweet songs we would sing, sweet songs we would sing on the store and outside Dan Murphy's door.
02:16These days in my hearts we would cherish, contented although we were poor, and the songs that were sung in the days we were young, on the store and outside Dan Murphy's door.
02:34Back again do my thoughts ever wander
02:43Near the scenes of my childhood's home
02:47Tis long years ago that I left there
02:52All just poverty, all just trouble
02:55Although in this life we have prospered
03:00But still in our hearts we feel sore
03:04For we long to go back to the friends that we had
03:09On the stone outside at Muppie's door
03:12But usually I think of my friends there
03:16And the children we play by the door
03:20And the friends that we had and the songs that we sang
03:25On the stone outside at Muppie's door
03:28These days in our hearts we will cherish
03:32Contented although we were poor
03:37And the songs that we sung on the days we were young
03:41On the stone outside at Muppie's door
03:45These days in our hearts we will cherish
03:49Contented although we were poor
03:53And the songs that we sung in the days we were young
03:58On the stone outside at Muppie's door
04:02Thank you
04:06Thank you
