00:00Long time no see!
00:05I miss you!
00:07Welcome to Miz Mojo.
00:09With the end of their military enlistments coming up fast,
00:12today we're catching up with all seven members of BTS
00:15as we look back at their accomplishments these last few years.
00:19Because together or apart,
00:21these guys are always giving ARMY a reason to celebrate.
00:24Make sure no life!
00:28June 13th is a special day for BTS and for ARMY.
00:33The anniversary of the group's debut is marked every year
00:36with an event called FESTA
00:37and always features performances and video events
00:40to celebrate the occasion.
00:42But in 2022, the tone was more bittersweet
00:45as BTS delivered the announcement that ARMY had been dreading.
00:58Suffering from burnout,
01:01the members explained that they were taking a group break
01:04to explore themselves as individuals
01:06before starting the mandatory military service
01:08required of all South Korean men.
01:11Sad as fans were to see the group separate
01:13for a minimum of three years,
01:16we knew it was the best thing for them as artists and as people.
01:19And it's not as though they cut us off cold turkey.
01:22Far from it.
01:23All seven members have kept busy in the interim
01:25with a steady stream of personal projects.
01:28Today, we'll check in with each of the Bangtan boys
01:31and see what's kept them running these last few years.
01:34As both leader and one of the primary creative forces
01:46behind BTS,
01:48RM has been an integral part of the group's ability
01:50to evolve over the years.
01:52However, prior to the group's hiatus,
01:55he admitted to feeling stifled
01:56by the constraints of the K-pop machine.
01:59No wonder then that his solo projects
02:01would be as layered, artistic, and diverse
02:03as RM himself.
02:05It's about the Korean painter,
02:07Yoon Hyun-geun,
02:07that I have the biggest respect, art industry.
02:12And he was always saying that
02:13you should firstly be a human
02:16before you do some art or do something.
02:20So the song is inspired by his lifelong message.
02:26Released in December of 2022,
02:29Indigo marked his first full-length studio release.
02:31It would eventually become Billboard's highest charting album
02:35by a Korean soloist to that point in time.
02:44Indigo could best be called experimental hip-hop,
02:47but even that seems too limited.
02:49Described by RM as a diary of 2019 to 2022,
02:54the collab-heavy album freely follows his creative impulses
02:57across the 10 tracks.
02:59It's a cool world, but it's gonna be my part,
03:02cause true beauty is a true sadness.
03:05Now you can feel my madness.
03:07Songs range from dreamy to discordant,
03:10from indie minimalism to sweeping soundscapes,
03:13from retro grooves to rock-inspired hooks.
03:15No two belong in the same genre.
03:17With a lesser musician,
03:19it might devolve into chaos,
03:20but RM weaves it all into an intriguing portrait
03:24of a true artist,
03:25linking all the pieces with his singular gift
03:27for self-expression,
03:29be it in the raw confessional style of Lonely
03:31or the powerful poetry of Wildflower.
03:40You'd think that would be enough of a statement
03:42to tide everyone over until his return from the military,
03:45But five months after his December 2023 enlistment,
03:49RM released another solo project in May of 2024.
03:59If Indigo was a diary,
04:01then the album titled Right Place, Wrong Person
04:04is a roadmap.
04:05It continued RM's study of exploration,
04:08both musically and internally,
04:10coming out as something that feels totally original.
04:12The songs also delve into a spectrum of styles,
04:15influences, and moods from melancholy to confrontational.
04:19But there is a deconstructed quality
04:21and a witty sort of dark irony
04:23that acts as an album through line.
04:31Ultimately, Right Place, Wrong Person
04:33would appear on the 2024 best of lists
04:36for numerous outlets.
04:38After hearing about his struggles pre-hiatus,
04:41it's exciting to see RM's big creative swings
04:43as paying off the way they have been.
04:45We weren't exactly expecting the military
04:47to make a saxophonist out of him,
04:49but we look forward to seeing
04:50how that plays into his future work.
04:57Jin.
04:58BTS's eldest member was also the first
05:00to ship off for the military,
05:02enlisting in December of 2022.
05:04However, as a going-away gift for fans,
05:07he released his debut solo single,
05:09The Astronaut, in October of that same year.
05:19The song made waves on various charts
05:21and also netted Jin his first solo appearance
05:24on Billboard with a debut at number 51.
05:27He got the opportunity to perform it live
05:29when he joined his co-writers, Coldplay,
05:32on stage at their tour stop in Argentina.
05:41He also continued to explore his victual interests,
05:45learning how to make traditional alcohol
05:47with brewer, Pac Rock Dam,
05:49and chef Baek Jong Wong
05:51in a web show called Drunken Truth,
05:53while bringing his own unique touch
05:55to the process, of course.
06:09Following his discharge in June of 2024,
06:12Jin hit the ground running,
06:14while walking briskly anyway.
06:16He served as one of South Korea's torchbearers
06:18at the 2024 Olympics.
06:20From the sublime to the absurd,
06:43Jin has also returned to our screens
06:44in the variety show format
06:46he always excels in.
06:47He recently starred in the Netflix reality show,
06:50Kian's Bizarre B&B,
06:52and he's been helping to fill
06:53the Run BTS-shaped hole
06:54in ARMY's viewing schedule
06:56with a spinoff entitled Run Jin,
06:59where he gets up to all kinds of hijinks
07:00for our amusement,
07:02both alone and with noteworthy guests.
07:04He made his musical comeback
07:06in October of 2024
07:07with the single I'll Be There,
07:10ahead of the release
07:11of his first mini-album in November.
07:14Accurately called Happy,
07:15the six tracks gave fans
07:17plenty to smile about,
07:18with a mix of emotive ballads
07:20and upbeat bops
07:21that ushered in Jin's rock star era.
07:23I swear that I will always sing for you,
07:27sing for you.
07:29The EP Echo marked another comeback
07:31in May 2025,
07:34alongside plans for Jin's first world tour.
07:37Suga.
07:37In a group full of habitually hard workers,
07:40it sometimes seems like
07:42no one works harder than Suga.
07:44Not only is he a major producer
07:45and songwriter for BTS,
07:47but he has frequently lent his talents
07:49to other artists,
07:51both behind the scenes
07:52and through featured collaborations.
07:54He would continue that
07:55in a 2023 release with Halsey
07:57for the video game Diablo 4.
07:59It wasn't the first time
08:06his track record of supporting
08:08other artists
08:09had come to the forefront.
08:10In December 2022,
08:12Suga had launched
08:13his web series,
08:14Sochita,
08:15showing off his skill
08:16as an interviewer
08:17in comfortable,
08:18free-flowing conversations
08:19with his famous guests.
08:21Meanwhile,
08:21out of the public eye,
08:23he was focusing
08:23his energy on self-development.
08:25We're tired just hearing
08:42about his schedule,
08:43but for Suga,
08:44this process of growing his skills
08:46was an important step
08:47in revitalizing him artistically.
08:49And Boy did it.
08:55In April of 2023,
09:00Suga's album D-Day
09:01hit like a tidal wave.
09:03Though it was his first
09:04full-length studio project,
09:05it was also the third entry
09:07in the chronology
09:08of his alter ego,
09:09August D.
09:15Having spent
09:16the previous two mixtapes
09:17wrestling with identity
09:19as his notoriety grew,
09:20in D-Day,
09:21Suga meditates
09:22on social issues
09:23and themes of freedom,
09:24while reconciling
09:25his various personas
09:27into a single self-image.
09:29The production
09:29is first-class,
09:31as Suga pulls
09:31from sources
09:32as diverse
09:32as traditional
09:33Korean instruments,
09:35alternative rock riffs,
09:36and Ryuichi Sakamoto
09:38piano features.
09:39The lyrics are complex,
09:41analytical,
09:42and sometimes
09:43nakedly vulnerable
09:44in a way
09:44a younger August D
09:46wouldn't have been ready for.
09:54Debuting to substantial
10:00popular and critical acclaim,
10:02D-Day would get
10:03a well-deserved victory lap
10:04when Suga embarked
10:05on his first solo world tour
10:07between April
10:08and August of 2023.
10:10By the end,
10:11the culmination
10:11of his long journey
10:12and the enthusiastic
10:13support of his work
10:14got even the consummately
10:16unflappable Suga
10:17welling up with emotion.
10:18J-Hope
10:29The sunshine of BTS
10:31is known for his energy,
10:33so it wasn't surprising
10:34that he was the first member
10:35to release a solo album.
10:37But when Jack in the Box
10:38dropped in July of 2022,
10:41ARMY's were not prepared.
10:48Dark, edgy,
10:52and aggressive,
10:53Jack in the Box
10:53existed in another universe
10:55to the bright,
10:56vibey mixtape
10:57Hope World.
10:58The album brims
10:59with old-school swagger
11:00and rockstar attitude,
11:02showing a totally
11:03different side
11:04to J-Hope.
11:05And it works.
11:12Both Rolling Stone
11:14and NME
11:15would include
11:16Jack in the Box
11:17in their end-of-year rankings
11:18for Best Albums of 2022.
11:21And the songs themselves
11:22got a rave reception
11:23from the Lollapalooza crowds
11:25when J-Hope took the stage
11:26as the first
11:27South Korean solo artist
11:28to headline a U.S. festival.
11:36J-Hope would also
11:38go back to his roots
11:39in street dance
11:39with a mini-series
11:40called Hope on the Street,
11:42exploring his own past
11:43while traveling around the world
11:45to learn from other dancers.
11:47It was released
11:47in March 2024
11:48while he was in the midst
11:50of his military service,
11:52alongside a mini-album
11:53and a promotional collaboration
11:54with J. Cole.
12:02Following his discharge
12:04in October of 2024,
12:06Hope he took a much-earned breather
12:07before diving back
12:09into the idol life.
12:10His first post-military performance
12:12was at the request
12:13of French first lady
12:14Brigitte Macron
12:15for the charity
12:16Le Galat des Pièces Jaunes
12:18in January of 2025.
12:20In the subsequent months,
12:28he kicked off a world tour
12:30and released several singles,
12:32switching things up again
12:33with a softer R&B sound.
12:35He is slated to return
12:36to the lights of Lollapalooza
12:37as a headliner
12:38at the Berlin Festival
12:39in July 2025.
12:41This kind of love
12:42I guarantee for life
12:44Dream's gonna be sweet tonight
12:47Jimin
12:47Rather than plunging headfirst
12:49into solo work,
12:51Jimin eased his way in.
12:53He duetted with
12:53Wanna One's Sung Woon
12:55on an OST
12:56for the drama
12:57Our Blues
12:57before co-writing
12:59and featuring on Vibe
13:00with Daeyang
13:01of Big Bang fame.
13:02Give me a two
13:03You know me
13:04not yet
13:05Vibe
13:06Baby
13:07The song was aptly named
13:10and proved to be
13:11a great warm-up
13:12for Jimin's
13:12big solo release
13:13in March of 2023.
13:15This was where he proved
13:16he was ready
13:17for the deep end.
13:18Watch me throw
13:19And I shook, shook
13:21on Santa Claus
13:23Away
13:24Written in response
13:27to Jimin's
13:28emotional struggles
13:29during the 2020 pandemic,
13:30the songs on the album
13:31titled Face
13:32explore the nuances
13:34of loneliness
13:34and struggle
13:35for self-acceptance.
13:36ARMYs know
13:37that the latter
13:38is a battle
13:39Jimin has fought
13:39for a long time
13:40and that he has grappled
13:42with body image
13:43in the past.
13:44So as gratifying
13:45as it was
13:45to see face-topping charts
13:47and smashing records
13:48from day one,
13:49it made us especially proud
13:51to see Jimin
13:51embrace himself
13:52through his work.
14:02Like the other members,
14:04Jimin had material
14:04ready to tide us over
14:06following his December
14:072023 enlistment.
14:09In July of 2024,
14:10a second album
14:11called Muse was released.
14:13Wanna give her the world
14:15and so much more love.
14:19The single Who debuted
14:20at the top of both
14:21the Billboard Global 200
14:22and the global exclusive
14:24US chart,
14:26which was the first time
14:27one of his songs
14:27had achieved the feat.
14:29Later that summer,
14:30we also got a fun throwback
14:31to the days of Bon Voyage
14:33when Disney Plus released
14:34the travel series
14:35Are You Sure?
14:36featuring Jimin
14:37and Jungkook's
14:38wholesomely chaotic escapades.
14:46V.
14:47If there's one member
14:48who knows how to get ARMY
14:50begging for solo music,
14:51it's V.
14:52For years,
14:53he has teased us
14:54with snippets of songs,
14:56most of which we're still
14:57hoping to hear recorded someday.
14:59A million stars, anyone?
15:00Just tell me you love me
15:03then I'll give you everything.
15:06What can we say?
15:07RV is a perfectionist,
15:09and while he was continuing
15:10to refine his music,
15:12he had plenty to keep him busy.
15:14His first hiatus projects
15:16were for TV.
15:17In July 2022,
15:19he and his Wooga squad friends
15:21filmed their four-day trip
15:23for the Disney Plus series
15:24In the Soup,
15:25Friendcation.
15:26Then in February 2023,
15:29he joined the reality show
15:30Ginny's Kitchen
15:31as the restaurant intern,
15:33allowing the world
15:34to see more of his silly,
15:35infectious personality.
15:37Oh, yes.
15:38What are you doing?
15:39What are you doing?
15:40What are you doing?
15:41What are you doing?
15:42What are you doing?
15:43What are you doing?
15:44What are you doing?
15:46What are you doing?
15:46Oh, yes.
15:47Oh, yes.
15:47In a tonal 180,
15:49V appeared in the music video
15:51for IU's Love Wins All
15:53in 2024.
15:55Do we want to see it developed
15:56as a full-length drama series?
15:58Yes, we do.
15:59Will it wreck us emotionally?
16:01Also, yes.
16:02Love, love, love.
16:10In September 2023,
16:13V finally released
16:14a solo album called Layover.
16:16Infused with old-school jazz,
16:18R&B, and soul,
16:20it stood out for its dreamy,
16:21lo-fi mood
16:22while also being the perfect showcase
16:24for V's expressive voice.
16:33Layover would go on
16:35to hit major streaming numbers,
16:36eventually tying V
16:38with his groupmates
16:38Jin and Suga
16:40for the title of highest-charting
16:41Korean solo artist
16:43in Billboard history.
16:44His mid-enlistment release
16:46came in March of 2024
16:47in the form of the digital single
16:49Friends.
16:50With a beat made for swaying,
16:52it's a great listen on its own,
16:54but we loved seeing V's sense of humor
16:56shine in the accompanying music video.
17:04Jungkook.
17:05BTS's Golden Maknae
17:07can't help but live up to his nickname.
17:09His solo activities
17:10have taken him to stages
17:11all over the world,
17:13and he's rocked them all.
17:14You won't regret me
17:16champagne, confetti
17:18I wanna see it
17:21in motion
17:22in 3D
17:23He was typically fast off the block,
17:25releasing a collaboration
17:26with Charlie Puth
17:27in late June of 2022.
17:30Then, in November,
17:31he became the first Korean artist
17:32to provide an official theme
17:34for the FIFA World Cup
17:35with his song,
17:36Dreamers.
17:37We are the dreamers
17:39We make it happen
17:41Cause we believe it
17:43Jungkook kicked off 2023,
17:45becoming a brand ambassador
17:47for Calvin Klein in March,
17:49which certainly turned heads.
17:51But it was the July release
17:52of his official debut
17:53solo single,
17:54Seven,
17:55that got people gagging,
17:56especially when they heard
17:57the uncensored version,
17:59which we can't share here.
18:00Every hour,
18:02every minute,
18:03every second,
18:04no matter the night,
18:06I'll be loving you
18:07right seven days away.
18:08With Seven,
18:09Jungkook racked up
18:10a slew of impressive records
18:12and accolades,
18:13including an MTV VMA win
18:15for Song of the Summer.
18:17In September,
18:18he would go on to headline
18:19the Global Citizen Festival
18:21in New York.
18:22Finally,
18:22in November 2023,
18:24Golden was released.
18:25Something next to you
18:27come
18:27Still there in the fire
18:29next to you
18:31The 11-track album
18:34is a pop fan's dream
18:35filled end-to-end
18:36with earworms.
18:38But the thematic arc
18:39from first attraction
18:40to eventual heartbreak
18:41shows a sophisticated sensibility
18:43underneath the smooth production.
18:44It was also a commercial smash hit,
18:47acting as a shining cherry
18:49on top of a truly golden
18:502023 for Jungkook.
18:52If there was any doubt
18:53he was born for pop star glory,
18:55his solo successes
18:56should have swept it all away.
18:58Before we continue,
19:06be sure to subscribe to our channel
19:07and ring the bell
19:08to get notified
19:09about our latest videos.
19:10You have the option
19:11to be notified
19:12for occasional videos
19:13or all of them.
19:14If you're on your phone,
19:15make sure you go into your settings
19:17and switch on notifications.
19:20Yet to come.
19:21So, what's ahead for BTS?
19:23It's not uncommon
19:25for K-pop groups
19:26to fade out
19:26after military enlistment.
19:28But when our guys left,
19:29it was with a promise
19:30to ARMY
19:30that they would be back
19:31as OT7.
19:32And they've yet
19:33to make us a promise
19:34they didn't keep.
19:35After three years
19:54and a lot of personal
19:55and artistic growth
19:56from each member,
19:58it's inevitable
19:58that the group
19:59will reunite
19:59with a different perspective.
20:01But that's also
20:02a pretty exciting prospect
20:03given how well
20:04BTS has always
20:05been able
20:06to organically evolve.
20:15Refreshingly
20:16for the K-pop industry,
20:18their apparent company
20:18HYBE seems willing
20:20to give them a beat
20:21to navigate the start
20:22of their next chapter.
20:23So it may still
20:24be a little bit
20:25before we've got
20:25new BTS music
20:26filling up our playlists.
20:28But we can be patient.
20:29After all,
20:30we know whatever's coming,
20:32it will be worth the wait.
