00:03I've got eight all together, I didn't have a television.

00:07That was a little joke.

00:09But, um, I'm so thrown, I thought that you'd recorded it earlier, look at them.

00:14Ugly, aren't they, all of them.

00:17But, um, when I started singing in the early 60s, um, well before all of you lot were here,

00:26the reason I got into it was because I had this burning ambition.

00:30To sing.

00:31That's all I wanted to do, I didn't want to be rich or famous.

00:35And here I am, a few years later, picking up this wonderful award.

00:39Thank you so much.

00:42I want to thank all the musicians I've played with, all my influences, like Sam Cooke, David Ruffin, Muddy Waters,

00:51all those guys who influenced me.

00:53And, uh, I'm just, I'm so overwhelmed that you're here.
