Deaf Foster Dog Sleeps In The Weirdest Positions

She gets SO excited when her foster mom wakes her up. Elli told us how much Sky loves meeting new people, and is so ready to find her forever family!

00:00I find her sleeping in the weirdest positions.

00:07Skye is my deaf foster dog, and when I need to wake her up,

00:10most of the time I place my hand in front of her nose so she scents me.

00:15Without fail, every time I wake her up, she is so excited to see me.

00:20Hey, sweet girl.

00:23Oh my goodness, we're so excited.

00:26We're so excited.

00:27This is because she lives alone in a refinished barn next to our farmhouse.

00:31Eight and a half months ago, I met her at a shelter,

00:33and she reminded me so much of my own deaf dogo, Jasmine.

00:37I didn't feel good about leaving her there.

00:40So I did what any sane person would do, and I brought her to my farm.

00:43However, my dog Jasmine did not get along with her

00:46and made it very clear she wasn't comfortable with her in our house.

00:49So for now, until she's adopted, Skye lives by herself

00:53in the barn that I restored into a home.

00:56To be clear, I spend many hours throughout the day with her,

01:00starting at 6.30 in the morning.

01:04We go hiking on local trails.

01:06We also run errands together because this is a dog who absolutely loves to meet new people.

01:12Every day I practice sign language with Skye.

01:15Sign language is actually important to every dog whether they hear or not.

01:18Most dogs, as they age, will lose a degree of hearing.

01:22So if you've already been pairing your verbal cues with hand signals,

01:27you're not going to compromise on your communication as your dog ages.

01:31As much as I would love to keep Skye, I can't.

01:34I already have a full plate with my own special needs dogs.

01:37And I also always need to have room to foster.

01:41So I'm looking for the right home for this wonderful dog.
