Reporters Henry Bryant and Sam Morton reflected on Brighton's 4-1 win away to Europa League winners Spurs on the final day of the Premier League season.
Transcript
00:00Yes guys, how's it going? I'm Henry Bright, that's Sam Walton. We're reporters for Sussex World and we've just watched Brighton travel to Spurs at the top of Hotspur Stadium and win 4-1. Absolutely thrashing the Europa League winners. So Sam, talk to me about what that game was like.
00:18Yeah, it was a brilliant result for Brighton to cap off the season and finish in 8th place. Obviously a disappointing conclusion in the setting, haven't qualified for Europe, but they did their job and it was obviously quite a go for them elsewhere. Still, it's a really good result for Brighton to finish in 8th place. Lots of injuries this season, perhaps a 10 win.
00:39And I felt that that's a real positive result for Brighton to finish in 8th place. And I think obviously just yet again today showed the talent they had through the squad. Without a striker, no Danny Welbeck, even out for injury, Jan Petro out after that altercation with Jan Paul Brandt in 3rd training.
00:56So Brighton really did surprise a few. The fact that they scored four goals with no striker on the pitch and eventually we've got another two goals after his goal against Liverpool.
01:04The second one today was a lovely little back hill and it was really great to see from Hinchelwood and he was playing with a lot of confidence.
01:12He could have had a hat-trick because a penalty was given and he felt that it should have been Hinchelwood to step up and score his hat-trick.
01:20And he admitted he didn't want it, but it was that O'Reilly that took the penalty. A fair play to him, he could slap it in the corners. That made a 3-1 to Brighton.
01:28And then Diego Gomez off the bench, it was a superb strike to make it a 4-1. It was a really great response from the second half for Brighton because they did look quite poor in the opening stages.
01:38They fell behind to Dominic Slanky's penalty and Spurs did look quite buoyant in those early stages after being in the European league.
01:45But I thought Brighton responded really well and then scored four good second-half goals and finished the season off in style.
01:50Yeah, it was the season off with a high and then afterwards, Fabian Herschelwood spoke to the press and said that sometimes those amount of points that Brighton got could have been enough to get into Europe, but it wasn't meant to be.
02:04And he also commended Jack Hinchelwood, just saying how versatile he's been and what player he's been.
02:11He said he's suffered in some periods, but he's done really, really well.
02:16But yeah, it's another one for us to look at, another one for us to analyse their second-highest finish in the Premier League for Brighton.
02:24So, I mean, it's not all doom and gloom, is it?
02:26No, it's absolutely not all doom and gloom. You mentioned Herschelwood.
02:29He's becoming a bit like a new Pascal Gros, isn't he?
02:31He's remembered, obviously, for being so versatile and to pop up in any position he's needed in.
02:36Yet again, without a striker today, you play Herschelwood, who's primarily a full-back and plays a sentiment field.
02:42And today he's almost like a striker. He's scored two goals. I think that's just to show how valuable he is to the team.
02:48At 20 years old, it's only going to go to get better.
02:51And to be a local lad as well, you can be rest assured that he will probably want to stick around for many years.
02:56So, lots of reasons to be positive. I think Brighton are going to strengthen this summer.
03:00They might lose a couple of big names, so we'll see how that goes.
03:04But we know Brighton can cope with a reasonable one and they can bring some brilliant talent in to make them even better.
03:12Obviously, no European football next season, which is a shame.
03:15But hopefully that will give them the opportunity to find she and needs them in the training pitch.
03:19Herschelwood's second season, I'm sure things will learn to get better.
03:22Absolutely. Time will tell if Fabian Herschelwood can make it a second season of success for the Albion.
03:31No Europe, as Sam mentioned just there, but a lot to look forward to for the Albion.
03:35Some departures coming up with the likes of Matoma.
03:38Looking like he may go to Bayern Munich, but we'll see what happens.
