So St James' Park will host Champions League football once again next season after a nervy final day of the Premier League season.
00:08
Newcastle really weren't at it today against Everton. Things just didn't quite click anyhow.
00:12
It made a number of tactical changes. It just didn't pay off.
00:16
But the positive is that Manchester United, arguably having the worst season in their recent history,
00:21
have somehow pulled off a 2-0 win, a controversial 2-0 win against Aston Villa that ensured Newcastle ended the season.
00:27
In the top 5, it obviously means a lot to Newcastle. It could unlock a lot of PR issues that have been slightly alleviated during the season,
00:35
but they still remain there. But it will allow Eddie Howe to make some big moves in the transfer market.
00:40
It now feels like a big summer line ahead for Howe for his squad.
00:44
He spoke about the need to freshen up his squad as a natural process rather than a forced one.
00:50
He spoke about the future of Callum Wilson, who of course is out of contract, but there are talks planned with his representatives.
00:57
So, you know, the seats have already been sewn, even, for what lies ahead this summer,
01:02
including some talks that will be taking place over the coming days with PIF and the St James Park hierarchy.
01:10
So, it is a positive day. It didn't feel like it for large part, but it is a positive day,
01:14
and one that can be the catalyst for an even brighter future for Newcastle United.
01:18
I think we shouldn't forget, it has been a remarkable season, a historic season,
01:23
where that 70-year wage for major domestic silverware came to an end on that memorable afternoon at Wembley,
01:28
and it ended with Champions League qualification as well, which was the aim at the start of the season.
01:33
So, this, I guess you could say, will go down as arguably the best season in Newcastle United's recent history,
01:39
and it can only be seen as a positive.
