00:00New Zealand, fresh from a comprehensive T20 series win against the West Indies,
00:28welcome India to their shores. The hosts' talented lineup will be looking forward to
00:32testing themselves against the world's number one ranked side. India's star-studded team will
00:38be hoping to bounce back from a series defeat against South Africa. The World Cup in Australia
00:42and New Zealand is just over a year away. Both sides' preparations begin in earnest today.
00:53Yes, welcome along to highlights of the first one-day international between New Zealand and
00:57India from McLean Park in Napier. MS Dhoni won the toss, he elected to bowl first. Two powerful
01:04looking sides, Martin Guptill, Jesse Ryder at the top, will be hoping to get New Zealand off
01:09to a sound start and then they're going to hit them with pace. Adam Milne, Mitchell McLenahan,
01:13Tim Southey have plenty of that. For India, Mohamed Shami and Ishan Sharma could hold the
01:18key. Let's get out to Napier and join the action. And Guptill gets the first ball and was unsure
01:29as to where it had finished up and he's underway.
01:37Well Ryder's got a hold of this and he has banged it away into the grandstand
01:42and the end of the first over ends on a high note with a six from Jesse Ryder and it's seven without
01:48loss. Nicely turned away by Ryder and it's a scramble down at the boundary and not quite.
02:02He had a quite fine Jesse Ryder and he picks up four runs. Well the field is way too square maybe
02:09way too square maybe because of the shot that he played of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. So all he had to do
02:16was just help the ball along. Shami just going around the pads and despite the frantic effort
02:24not close enough. You can see how much distance the field had to cover but that is the modern way.
02:31He smashes it through the covers. Vintage Jesse Ryder. Not a lot of foot movement
02:43but the hand-eye coordination and he smacks it to the boundary.
02:51Oh dear me. He looks very tentative outside the off stump at the moment. Ryder uncertain.
02:58There he goes again and he's helped himself to go over on the floor. You know not quite. Bounced
03:08just inside backward a square leg. Just missed his line the bowler and paid for it. Yes from
03:15bowling around the off stump he's tried to bowl the variety delivery and it was on the leg stump
03:21on the leg stump and Jesse Ryder has just helped it along. Did it go the distance?
03:31Just missed.
03:32So
03:50and Ryder goes. India have their first success and it's 22 for one.
03:55And that's a reward for pitching the ball and getting it to move late. Realizing that
04:03Ryder wasn't moving his feet. That's what Shami has done. Pitched the ball further up. Got the
04:08ball to move late and once again the tentative prod not working for Jesse Ryder. He's a clean
04:15ball by Bama Shami for 18. It's 22 for one. Now that's a good shot. The best one from Gapthul.
04:24He's hit a square on the offside. It was a little bit short
04:27and a little bit wide and Gapthul hits his first boundary.
04:34Nick didn't go on. Good catch from the Ashwin.
04:38It flew very quickly. Gapthul went hard at it and he's paid the price.
04:47Wow he saw a little bit of width here to Gapthul. As I said he's been very circumspect. That
04:52straight up scene went hard. Thick edge. Ravi Ashwin good hands at first slip. Shami
04:59picks up his first. Good piece of bowling. New Zealand lose their second. Gapthul gone for eight.
05:0532 for two. That's a good shot. Much needed boundary.
05:15This is a lovely shot by Williamson. Just starting to find a little bit of a tempo
05:19in the last couple overs. A couple of lovely shots off the back foot.
05:23Shami just drifted into his pads. He's starting to get his timing going. Much needed boundary by
05:28New Zealand. It has been a very sedate start. It's as if the New Zealand batters have just
05:36been waiting for Andy to bowl poorly. He's confined and that'll run away for the second
05:44boundary of the over. A good one all of a sudden for the Blackcaps. It may well
05:47kick them into gear. 60 for two. That is clever cricket. Makes that look so easy.
06:01Not sure about the chase or the dive at the end but the batting was absolutely exquisite.
06:07He's going to have to go again. How's the timing this time? He's got it right.
06:20Oh no. Ross Taylor could be in trouble here. Late call. Total miscommunication between Taylor
06:27and Williamson. Was Taylor ball watching? Did he not hear the call? It was a mess.
06:34It was. Williamson was always looking for three. Another lovely chip shot. Wide open spaces.
06:44Williamson called. Taylor didn't hear it. Whether or not he was watching the ball or not,
06:47wasn't a great throw. Again Williamson gets it through. Beautifully wide of mid-on.
06:56And that should run away again. Yes it does.
07:02That's close. Very, very, very close. May have just been touching down leg side a bit of bounce.
07:11Derek Walker had a good look at it. There is no review.
07:16I think this is a good shout. Maybe a little bit of angle. Taylor did go across.
07:20Oh I think that's very close.
07:33Well, dollar each way. Stick with the decision on field if we had a review system.
07:39It looked pretty good though when I saw it live.
07:42That's great batting. My word, that's a handsome shot. Now touch and go. Just short it seems.
07:58Gonna have to go. Oh I tell you what. I think Williamson might have been short.
08:04Yes it was a poor throw. Let's have a look and just see whether he would have made it or not.
08:12Oh close. Very close.
08:22Bhuvanesh by Kumar was a little bit slow behind point there.
08:29So another single to finish the over. So four off it and New Zealand now 97 for two.
08:41Able to free the arms on this occasion and that's well clear of the fields.
08:48And Williamson picks up another boundary as the New Zealand 100 comes up.
08:55And Williamson starts by taking yet another single and 50 for Kane Williamson.
09:03Well played. Really nice innings. 50 from 66 for Kane Williamson. Good strike rate, 76.
09:17That's a good shot. He's played some cracking shots today has Kane Williamson.
09:20That's just another one to add to the list.
09:22And that'll be it. So another one day international half century for Ross Taylor
09:34and that is number 25 for him. Yeah very popular half century but have a look at that one boundary
09:41in 50 runs. Very unlike Ross Taylor. I spoke to you before Simon.
09:46I feel like Ross Taylor's remodeling himself. He's crafting innings.
09:5270 balls.
09:58Oh that's beautifully played. Press forward and then wait for the ball.
10:03Lovely timing as well from Williamson.
10:10Gone and chipped it straight to the man at the short cover.
10:17That's Jinka Rahane and he takes the catch very comfortably. Kane Williamson's
10:26innings comes to an end. We've seen him play this shot love very well during the game but
10:31he couldn't quite go over the top or keep it on the ground. Stage are happy. Kane Williamson
10:39he'd be disappointed but a very well compiled 71 New Zealand 153 for three.
10:47Oh smashed. Just a hint of width and not much but McCullum was quickly onto it.
10:54Picks up his first boundary. 35 gone 161 for three.
11:03Just short. Looks for the pull shot but it was so wide and so high.
11:09All he did was manage to get a little under edge on it.
11:11Oh that's nicely played. Finds the gap.
11:18Don't know whether it'll run away for four but it should get three.
11:28It was a slab ball but look at my charm of it. This is what I like to see from Brendan McCullum.
11:33He went at the ball, stayed very side on and bent his knee. That high elbow.
11:39That means his balance is good. It's a feature of his game when he bats well.
11:51Advancing straight back over the bowler's head.
11:56Yeah McCullum aggressive. He likes to use his feet especially when he knows the bowler is
12:02looking to bowl full. There was a bouncer in the first ball of the over.
12:06Finally exact. So it's a bit of a double bluff by McCullum. He's got it over on the offside.
12:11Good shot. Good end to the over. Good start to the power play.
12:19Width and Charmy has got him. That's his third one in the innings and a crucial one.
12:26This can happen in the batting power play. Batsmen feel the compulsion to go after
12:33deliveries that they otherwise wouldn't have. This was wide and if he hadn't got a bat to it,
12:38it might have been called a wide the bowler but he's out. Ross Taylor very disappointed
12:44as he was leaving the crease. 55 to hit 171 for four.
12:55Up over and it is away. It wasn't perfectly timed but well enough for Anderson.
13:04Oh up and over. McCullum will be looking at square leg as if to say just how high was that.
13:11Was it too high but it certainly was an opportunity missed.
13:15Yes he does mix it up well Mama Charmy. So suddenly banging the ball in there.
13:21Brendan McCullum would have probably played a fair bit of Mama Charmy in the nets.
13:25Both of them play for the same franchise in the Indian Premier League. That's why the smile.
13:29They're teammates and probably going to be teammates soon now when the auction takes place
13:34in a few days time.
13:40The smile will be all over McCullum's face this time because he's got him through extra cover.
13:45Not the quickest I've seen the outfield here at the Premier League.
13:48Not the quickest I've seen the outfield here. It has to be said at McLean Park
13:53more threes than normal. A quick running very quick running by the New Zealanders. So
14:01taking three runs. Soon as he hit it he started a lot of times when the ball is
14:07hit between the field as batsmen tend to linger around hoping it'll carry on to the boundary.
14:13But not this time. Look at the way they've run. Very very good running between the wickets there.
14:18Oh that's big. That is huge.
14:25Monstrous head.
14:28When you say out of the park that is what it was. Out of the park. Out of the ground.
14:33Just the right length from Ishan Sharma and on the pads as well. So Corey Anderson helping himself
14:40to a huge one. Look at that. The length is just right. Doesn't have the pace. He's got
14:47either ball the Yorker or look to ball the slower delivery. Look at that.
14:57And he'll get him over the top because he went the opposite way. McCallum read the mind there
15:02and was able to get far enough down to get under it. Fine shot. Very good shot from the New Zealand
15:09captain. He knew that this was going to be an attempted Yorker on the pads as well. So giving
15:16himself a little bit of room. Moving to the left side even as he advances down the pitch.
15:21That's a very good shot.
15:25Didn't miss his mark by much. It was the fact that McCallum used his feet and came at him.
15:29If he'd batted from the crease that would have almost been spot on. So great invention
15:34and a good over this. 12 so far from it.
15:37And that's away for four more. So the foot has gone down on the pedal and New Zealand bring up
15:42the 200. And Anderson clubs it way over mid-wicket.
15:54Oh great catch. That is phenomenal piece of work.
15:58Standing up at the stumps. Mahindra Singh Dhoni. It's a beauty because it gets McCallum the
16:05danger man. Well you would know because you've been a wicket keeper. These are tough catches.
16:11Your gloves have got to be in the right area. And I think he might have been just a little bit hurt
16:16as well as he hurls the ball in the middle of the pitch. He's got to be in the right area.
16:22And I think he might have been just a little bit hurt as well as he hurls the ball up in
16:29the air. But this is a big wicket. The big hitting New Zealand captain out for 30. 213 for five.
16:43He's gonna have to go. He would have been out I think. I'm pretty sure that might have been the
16:48end of Ronke. Jadeja had a good look at them. It's very rare that Jadeja misses.
16:56I don't think Ronke realizes how quick Jadeja. Look at the way he's covered
17:01the ground. And he would have been out by a fair distance if he had hit.
17:10Nicely hit by Ronke. And it'll be a scramble. And the ball wins the battle.
17:16And that's a nice straight hit.
17:22Oh that stays hit. That is a massive blow again. And for the second time he puts it on the roof.
17:30Wow. Indy if you didn't know the power of this man you're learning it very quickly.
17:35It's back of the length. He's put the second one onto the roof.
17:40To the longest part of the boundary. Over mid wicket.
17:47Just crunch.
17:52Talk that maybe gone over the stand. Get the measurements out. That is massive.
18:05That's the first one. And we thought that was big.
18:11It's just been bettered by this.
18:17And that's somewhere in the car park. That's massive.
18:23Napier's not a big ground square but that goes to the corner which is big because it's long straight.
18:30But over the grandstand into the car park. How far is it? That's what we want to know.
18:36Talking over 110 meters.
18:45Okay they've got another ball. I don't know if it's the same one or not.
18:49He's going to come around the wicket now. Just see whether he can change the line a wee bit.
18:56So Anderson resets his guard. 33 off 19.
19:06Well he wouldn't want to go around the wicket and pitch leg stump. He'll go again.
19:15Well he's done him on the outside.
19:19Yeah good reply. Never nice for a bowler when he gets hit for six out of the ground.
19:25He's just trying to close the angle a little bit. Lock off one side of the park.
19:30He's virtual showing us how far. 122 meters.
19:37That is massive. Imagine a rugby field for New Zealand viewers plus the 25 or 22 meter line.
19:52He's got a bit on this and it's going down to the boundary for four.
19:59Gave him a little bit of width and he smacked it away for four more.
20:0519 runs off the over. It's 2.36 for five.
20:11Jadeja to do the bowling. Now Ronke goes high and it's over the boundary.
20:20It's a question of did it get there on the full. The umpire wants to check.
20:24He's got plenty on that. Ronke that will be six.
20:38No doubt at all about that and the second six in the over for Luke Ronke.
20:44Yeah he's taken a liking to Jadeja. Got underneath it. Trust the bounce. That's
20:50what a good touch does. It allows you to get underneath the ball.
20:55Really good timing though.
20:58Goes again low and flat and four this time. Almost an anti-climax.
21:08Sliced away and it's going to fall short of the fieldsman
21:12and they'll come back and that will be 50 for Corey Anderson.
21:17Well really well played by Corey Anderson. Just when his team needed it he's come out.
21:2251 off 30 balls. Three fours, three sixes including one. 122 meters. Get a good round of applause.
21:32Oh he strayed a bit and it is going to cost him. That's another big one.
21:38He's gone on the offside and oh beautifully taken. A very good tumbling catch and an important one too.
21:56Now the slab will change up to Ronke.
22:02The off spinner back of the length. Ronke tried to thrash it hard.
22:05It's a good catch. He's trying to see who caught that. Kumar caught it. So Luke Ronke's dismissed for 30.
22:13New Zealand, well they're going well. 279 for six.
22:21Loves it up in the air and it's going to fall nicely into the gap.
22:28That's a direct hit and he's going to check upstairs.
22:36The Indians actually pretty confident here. They might have run Anderson out at the boulders end.
22:42It was a direct hit. Yeah good throw by Rahane. Direct hit. Nathan McCallum got done by a slab ball.
22:50The call was always two. No he's well low.
22:58And he's gone. Caught in bold.
23:03So what an over that was.
23:07Trying to do something Nathan McCallum and all he's done is smacked it back to the bowler.
23:11Well it's a good catch. Hit the hole nice and full. Never easy on the follow through.
23:18It's a good effort. It's a great second last over of the match.
23:22Well done Mohamed Chami. Nathan McCallum he's dismissed for two. New Zealand 284 for seven.
23:30And Savi plays a clever shot and clips it away down back to the square. He'll come back for the
23:35second and the boulders all the way down at the keepers end. Two runs but India have finished
23:41strongly and New Zealand's 50 overs has bought them 292 for seven.
23:52A pretty decent effort that from New Zealand. The key partnership between Kane Williamson who made
23:5771 and Ross Taylor making 55. They laid the platform. It was the pyrotechnics and Corey
24:03Anderson 68 of 40 continuing to enhance his reputation. The bowlers the pick was probably
24:09Bhuvaneshwar Kumar at the top. One for 38. Very economical. It's Mohamed Chami with the wickets.
24:14Ishan Sharma and Jadeja were the other wicket takers.
24:18Join us after the break for the run chase. India needed 293 to win.
24:24Good delivery. Very good delivery. Savi focusing on the off stump.
24:44And a gap. What an awkward bounce Nathan McCallum. He may just have got half a hand on it to stop it
24:51going through to the fence but good start for day one.
25:12Did he get a bit of bat on it? That is what they seem to be asking the umpire.
25:22Is it on the top of the pads? No. It's pretty certain because he was quick to deny the bowler.
25:35Oh through him. That's a good over and a shot of frustration there.
25:44The bullying starts. 11 for none.
25:45Full shot should be out. It is out. Straight down the throat and Sharma's frustration has
25:56ended pretty early today. The bouncer he could not keep it down and McLennigan strikes again.
26:05And the field had perfectly placed this time around. Didn't have to move an inch right in
26:11his midriff. So Rohit Sharma finds a field and McLennigan is very very happy because he's given
26:19him a hard time. Look at that. 23 balls for his three and India have lost their first wicket for 15.
26:32Look at the timing. Beautifully timed. This is not exactly the quickest of outfields. Not like
26:38an Indian outfield but look at the way the ball has sped to the boundary. Folks this is a perfect
26:43cover drive. Perfect cover drive. Replay that 10 times over batting coaches to your young charges.
26:54Never over hit it. Right out of the middle of the bat. Down on one knee in complete control.
27:01Oh that's beautifully timed. Into position so quickly and already he's hit a couple of boundaries.
27:11Yeah they don't have any issues nowadays.
27:17Most of these top Indians have no issues at all.
27:21Yeah they don't have any issues nowadays.
27:28Most of these top Indian players, Suresh Raina may be the exception.
27:34For the most part they all play the short ball well. They're used to it.
27:42Don't mind playing the hook shot, the pull shot and Virat Kohli in particular.
27:47Yeah I thought he'd try him again with the short ball.
27:54He's had a bit to say McClendon. Not for the first time.
28:01Virat Kohli is not shy of a word either. He fires up. We've seen plenty of it.
28:07Big to do. Big spat during the IPL last year with Gautam Gambhir.
28:19Almost had to be separated on the field. It was terrific stuff. Feisty.
28:28He's fallen over. McClending it. He's putting a bit of effort in. Look at that 143.
28:33He really is giving it something.
28:39Yeah it's good pace.
28:42That one quickest of the over.
28:48So Virat Kohli, Shikha Dhawan,
28:53Ajinkya Rahane. They're the modern day Indian cricketers. They're feisty characters. They have a word.
29:03Well in the case of this bloke, he can back it up with actions and there's another boundary.
29:11It's noticeable that McClendon doesn't bother to have a word this time.
29:18Oh that's glorious. You don't see many better cover drives than that.
29:25Somehow it always looks better when it's done by a left-hander.
29:28It was always the case because there were so few of them I think, that it just looked
29:38different. There are a lot more now around the world but this is exquisite.
29:44And it's a favoured option of Shikha Dhawan in particular.
29:50Yes he just holds the pose. Took a long time for the first boundary. I think it might have
29:56been the fifth or sixth over but they have upped the tempo big time here.
30:11Oh just over the top. Might have got a fingertip to it and it's going to pull up short
30:18and they'll get a couple.
30:20I think it did hit the fingertips. Yeah Corey Anderson, I think it is.
30:25He's tried to control it. It did get the fingertips.
30:35It's away for four.
30:39Gee whiz. I don't know whether we need to say any more about that. It's a forward defence. Yeah.
30:46Nice shot. Beautifully played. It was just a mere push and it's raced off to the boundary for four.
31:00And the quicker it comes down. That one's 1.53 and a half.
31:05So that's the quickest one we've seen from him I think. The 1.53.1 or 2 I think in the one day,
31:11sorry in the 2020 game at Eden Park. So that's the quickest
31:14delivery we've seen from Milne but it's gone back off Coley's bat just as quick.
31:26So that just emphasises the point. Pace is not everything if you don't get your length and your
31:30line right. Oh yeah, little jab. It's in the air, straight up and a simple catch to Taylor.
31:49Well the man with the golden arm, Corey Anderson has done it. He's broken the partnership.
31:54He's picked up the big wicket of Sheikha Darwin who's gone back for a pull shot
32:00and ended up getting done for speed and a little bit of height got cramped.
32:04Banged in hard by Anderson. Good energy and it got high. No control at all. Came off the stickers
32:11and as comfortable catch as you'll get for Ross Taylor. And Anderson's pumped. That's a big blow
32:17for New Zealand. Important wicket. Darwin on the way for a well-made 32. India 73 for two.
32:24There's an opportunity. Oh what a catch. Nathan McCullum stuck out his right hand and it's stuck
32:32and Corey Anderson makes the breakthrough again. Oh how good a catch is this. This is superb from
32:39Nathan McCullum. It always looked like it was just going to be out of his reach. Cross seamer again
32:45from Anderson. Threw the shot too early as Rahane. McCullum puts on the dive about there. Sticks in
32:51the right hand. That is brilliant. That is outstanding. That is joy for Anderson. He salutes
32:57the crowd. What a take that is. That is brilliant fielding. Rahane. A short stay for him. Gone for seven.
33:05India 84 for three.
33:11That was interesting. That did climb and he was lucky Rainer. Very lucky.
33:16Here's Nathan McCullum. Oh that's a good shot. Up and over.
33:27Wholly on the charge. A lovely use of the feet.
33:33Midoff is up inside the circle.
33:37First ball of the over. The bowler least expects it. He's trying to get the over off to a good start.
33:4750 for Riddick Coley. Just a little appetizer.
33:53It could be a very very good watching five weeks. A master class so far.
34:04Now then. Just square and a half. Gee whiz. Gupta was after it. New Zealand thought for half a second.
34:12Half a second. He might have just about misplaced one.
34:17Well that'll run away for four. Bad finish from New Zealand's point of view in India.
34:25Looking good again. 128 for three.
34:31Can't control that. What a catch. Oh Tim Salby. How beautifully judged. And Moon has done it with the bouncer.
34:40Mark that one down. That's a future tactic as well. Today it's been pulled off beautifully.
34:49Yeah we talked about the short ball on Suresh Rainer. He cannot control it.
34:53He's been working so hard. He's tried to paddle it down but the thing about that ball was Milne
34:58got the height right. It was above the eyes. And a terrific catch from Tim Salby.
35:03Milne's pick one up. Suresh Rainer goes for 18. It's 129 for four.
35:12Oh what about the control here? It wasn't there. It didn't carry.
35:16There was no timing. McLennigan a long way short of him.
35:19Look at that running between the wickets. That's what I will say. They're brilliant at that.
35:33Converting one into two. 137 for four.
35:41Oh lovely shot. Beautifully timed.
35:44Oh that is a cracker of a shot. Milne is quick.
35:54You have to look at the time Mandar Singh Dhoni had in playing that shot.
36:02Oh played a missed. I suspect try to run it down too. There is a third man in place so it's
36:10it's only a single at best. And there's a slip in position as well.
36:18That is an area where Dhoni has been susceptible particularly overseas
36:22where he tends to fish at deliveries around the off stump.
36:30And there's a signal immediately. Oh it's hit directly.
36:34Oh it's hit directly.
36:36They want to run a second but when they do they'll go back and check.
36:40We'll try at the other end for a run out as well. Now let's have a look.
36:46My colleagues seem to be confident because he called the skipper for
36:50a second and they're both very quick between the wickets. But whenever there's a direct hit
36:54it's a very good chance of it going in favor of the fielding team. He's inside I think.
37:04He's close.
37:09I think he might be inside. Let's get a clearer view.
37:26This is the thing. When do the bales come off? When the bat is on the line or beyond the line?
37:34Not out. Boy that was a near thing.
37:41Oh that's a good shot. That's over the infield. A couple of bounces in four runs
37:47and that's what India have been looking for. And that's what they need in the next few overs to
37:53try and bring that asking weight down. Length ball bold. That is what batsmen are looking for
38:00when the fielders are in the 30-yard circle at mid-off and mid-on.
38:03Because then they can get under it and head it over the infield.
38:11Oh crunching shot. Beautiful.
38:21Over the top and clear of the fieldsman and over the boundary for four more.
38:27Another wonderful shot from this young man.
38:33Oh bang through the air three for four. Was in the air and wasn't far away from Ross Taylor.
38:42In the air. High in the air into the black sky. He's going back as Jesse Ryder doesn't get a hand
38:50on it. Oh no. Oh no. It was not easy running backwards and in the end Ryder couldn't get a
38:57hand on it. Now got lost in the night sky. Went very very high. Went above the lights.
39:03Ryder was running back. I thought there may be a chance the guy on the cover boundary could
39:06have run in and called over Ryder. Length. It's a mistake by Coley. Straight up the air.
39:15Just didn't even pick it up. That is a not an easy catch at this time of night but you
39:18need to take it when they're given. It looked like he was under it and was comfortable and that
39:25just went away from him. Never easy at night with a black sky. Depth perception is very difficult.
39:34Wow what a blow that is for New Zealand. How big a play is that going to be?
39:39Virat Coley. Southie first ball has created something. New Zealand not good enough to
39:46make the most of it. Slip goes into play. Ross Taylor in it. Second slip
39:58for MS Dhoni. Just moving third man a touch wider.
40:08Pulled away by Dhoni. Plenty of space out there. How good's the timing?
40:13Yep the timing's great. Even Martin Gavdil can't run it down.
40:16Another boundary for Dhoni. India on the march.
40:23Oh look at that for a cover drive. Look at that for class. Nathan McCallum tries spellingly.
40:30He can't stop it. What a hundred from Virat Coley. What a way to bring it up.
40:35What a master class it's been. It's one day international hundred number 18
40:41and it has been all class from this talented right-hander.
40:47Oh bang goes Dhoni. Has it gone all the way? Yes it has. Sheer power from the Indian skipper.
40:59In the air it's gone flat and it's gone hard and it's gone long
41:03and it's gone all the way for six. That's just straight confidence and arrogance.
41:13Oh has it hit the helmet? Oh what a catch. Is there some gloves there? He's walking off.
41:18He's walking off. Dhoni's gone. McClannigan's done it. What a catch from Wonky.
41:23Hit some ground to make. That is an absolute beauty. The plan was to go short but you've got
41:29to execute it. It rushed on to Dhoni. Hit the gloves and onto the helmet and bounced. Wonky had
41:35to make ground and he did. Great catch. Just what New Zealand needed. McClannigan celebrates. He's
41:41got what a skipper wanted. It's time to stand up and he's saying I'm going to do it.
41:46MS Dhoni's departs for 40. India 2-2, 4-5.
41:50Oh goes past the outside edge. Wow. That's what Brendan McCullum was after.
41:59Yeah the key that Brendan McCullum will want his bowlers and his fielders to do
42:03is bowl as many balls as they can today to keep Coley off strike. Build up the pressure on him
42:10because the more balls they bowl that the new batter that keeps the form batter off strike.
42:18The form batter off strike. It gets frustrated and that can bring about another wicket.
42:28Edge and taken. Two in the over. McClannigan's done it again.
42:34What a delivery. Genasia finds the outside edge and he's gone. New Zealand pick up two. Bang bang
42:41and they're back in this match. Well we talked about needing to stand up. Well he's done that.
42:45Back of a length. Just an outside edge. Ronke takes a simple catch but New Zealand will start
42:51believing now. McClannigan stood up. He's done what a skipper wanted. He's got New Zealand back
42:56in the game. Jadeja he didn't trouble the scorers. India now 2-2, 4-6.
43:06Nathan McCullum to continue. Bang goes Coley. Has he got it all? You betcha.
43:12You betcha. That's gone all the way for six. What a reply from this right-hander.
43:26One bounce. The wrists. The wrist absolutely magnificent and a contosure.
43:32Well he can play the same ball on the offside. That is the time he'll use the top hand but when
43:38he sees that there is no protection for the field bowler in the deep he will use the bottom hand to
43:44hit that ball from outside the off stump to deep mid wicket. That is the reason why he's so hard
43:49to contain. Now the same kind of delivery he can drive through the covers and we saw that as he
43:54was nearing his hundred. The lovely drives that he played through the covers. Now when the ball's
44:00angled into him he's used the bottom hand for that boundary. He's got to hit him on the toe.
44:06He's got to get full so he can only get one. He's tried and he's out. Oh he's out the bonus wicket.
44:15McClennigan just keeps taking them and Ryder as nonchalant as you like. He had a half chance
44:22earlier. He didn't let that one go big and Coley's on his way. What a full toss and he hit it straight
44:31to that fielder. Maybe five yards either way and he would have got runs if not a boundary
44:38but straight absolutely straight to the fielder. India has been finding fielders
44:44with a regularity. We saw that with Rohit Sharma and now we see that with Virat Kohli.
44:48He's a chance. He's a chance. Must be close. They think they've got him.
45:09Bhuvneshwar Kumar has half started walking towards the changing room before he's turned
45:15round and walked towards Ashwin. He's not the quickest between the wickets and you can see that
45:23out by a fair distance. Out by a fair distance. There really was no run in it
45:28but the pressure getting to Ashwin calling him for a run which simply wasn't there.
45:35Bhuvneshwar Kumar run out six 244 for eight.
45:38Oh got it. He's got him big too. That's massive. Oh unbelievable shot at this time. Dangerous man.
45:54Straight up. Straight up. Who's under this one? Oh it's down. It's down. It's down McCullum.
46:03Was it Salde's? Was it Salde's catch?
46:09Did he hear a call? Obviously not because it seemed to hang for a long time. Was the man coming in
46:14the better option? In any case it's down. Yep McCullum not sure.
46:24Not sure about that at all. Still to a ball. Ashwin back on strike.
46:30This time. This time surely. Salde. He's pulled off another one in the deep. Another diving effort.
46:38Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant stuff. Well he's taken some tremendous catches. The first one was
46:48a pretty simple one. Rohit Sharma right in his midriff. Then he took a super catch off Suresh
46:53Rana. And once again. Well he picked it up late. Might have picked it up late in the background
47:00of the crowd. But covering ground very very nicely. And another tremendous catch by the
47:07New Zealanders. 12 to Ashwin. 259 for nine. Well mostly whipped away. And he's hit again.
47:17Well that's a terrific shot.
47:25Oh he's done it. A cracking Yorker to seal the deal. And New Zealand go one nil up in the series.
47:33What a performance. They have hung tough when they were asked to at crucial times.
47:41Great game of cricket. India falling just 24 runs short. And that innings of 123.
47:47Splendid stuff from Virat Kohli. But it wasn't enough. Let's hear from the captains and the
47:50man of the match at the presentation. Captain MS. You won the tie selected to bowl first. Let's
47:55talk about that first. How did you feel? Well I think overall it was a good decision. Of course
48:00it had to be backed by good bowling. I think the first three or four hours we didn't bowl that well.
48:04But after that we were able to get the ball back. So I think overall it was a good decision.
48:10After that we came well back into the game. I think spinners also they bowl the right way.
48:16At times outside the subcontinent it's very important to mix up the pace. Don't rely too
48:21much on beating the batsman in the flight or getting a lot of turn. It won't happen more
48:25often than not. So I felt the bowlers did their job restricting them under 300 odd runs on a good
48:32wicket. So I think it was a good decision. Brendan a terrific performance from you guys
48:36tonight. Putting runs on the board first. Did you feel you had enough at halftime?
48:40I thought we had past score to be honest. I thought the way that India bowled at the
48:44end there restricted us from that 300 plus total. So we were pretty comfortable at halftime with
48:49past score but we knew we were going to have to bowl and feel well. Virat's innings was world
48:54class again and showed why he's one of the best players in the world. We sort of knew that we had
48:58to get him out if we were serious about winning that game at the end. Thankfully Mitch came back
49:02and did a job for us removing both MS and also Virat which was really important for us.
49:07Time now for the man of the match. Pretty tough decision because as Brendan said Mitchell
49:10McLean again bowled particularly well. Virat Kohli's innings was outstanding but joint decision
49:14we gave it to Corey Anderson for another fantastic innings and also a couple of wickets with the
49:18ball. Corey feeling pretty confident? Yeah yeah it was nice to obviously come out and do that.
49:22Near the end it was set up with Ross and Kane and yeah it makes I guess my job a lot easier
49:29to go from there. You struck the ball nicely but up until the end they got those Yorkers right
49:33didn't they? It was pretty tough to get away right at the end of the innings. Yeah it was
49:35their death phase was incredible to be fair. I don't think they miss very often at all so
49:39yeah I guess that's something that we need to look at for the next game and see how we
49:42can come up with some I guess some different tactics.
