00:00Hair hanging feels unique to me because I feel like it's the only form of aerial where
00:04you're working without an apparatus.
00:06So usually with silks or trapeze, it will be you and the thing you're working with.
00:12With hair hanging, it's just you.
00:14So that feels really magical to me.
00:15It feels like the most like flying.
00:21Hi, my name is Erin Blair and I'm a hair hanging aerialist.
00:30Hair hanging is a traditional circus practice where you arrange your hair in such a way
00:38that you can hang from it and do aerial.
00:42I wanted to try hair hanging because I've been doing circus for a long time and I love
01:03always pushing the limits of what my body can do.
01:07And hair hanging seemed like a really exciting way to keep going further.
01:12To train for hair hanging, you have to condition your body.
01:15You need a very strong spine and neck.
01:18You have to sort of train your hair and your scalp.
01:21I take a lot of vitamins.
01:22I take very good care of my hair and learning how to do that definitely took me some time
01:26in practice.
01:33The challenges with this type of performance, there's a lot of pain.
01:37If not done correctly, hair hanging could of course be very dangerous.
01:41You could lose a lot of hair.
01:43You could potentially have the hair come undone.
01:46You could fall if you're very high up.
01:48That could be extremely dangerous.
01:54And it's been really amazing to me to see like how much the body can do.
01:58And so I really try to explore that, like how much I can express with my body, how strong
02:04I can be, how flexible I can be through my acts.
02:06I love your body, how much I can be, how much it can be affected by my body.
02:07And now I have been very looking forward.
02:08You could use my body, how much I can be...
02:08I have no idea, I have no idea.
02:09I have no idea.
02:10I learned a lot...
02:11I can be...
02:11I know I can be...
02:12It's probably a lot more...
02:13I have no idea.
02:14I have no idea.
02:15You could do that.
02:16I've been really struggling...
02:17I think I've been really struggling.
02:18I'm really working with you.
02:19I've been really struggling.
02:20I'm really struggling to keep my body, how hard I want people to do.
