00:00we're over a lot of ocean right now yeah we're over the Pacific we're gonna come over the tip
00:13of South America
00:30I'm Marie Claire I'm Christina Cook of NASA and I'm Jessica Neer
00:51we're both NASA astronauts living on board the International Space Station and I've actually
00:55been here since March 15th I think it's somewhere almost 250 days something like that that's about
01:01200 days longer than me and actually tomorrow will be my 50th day on the International Space
01:05Station the last 50 has been the best it's been pretty amazing being up here together with both
01:11of us having worked and been friends together and colleagues for so long one of the highlights
01:16of my 50 days thus far was the spacewalk that Christina and I conducted together we were doing
01:22a series of spacewalks to upgrade some batteries and then something went a little bit awry with
01:26the battery channel and we had to do an unplanned spacewalk to replace the battery charge discharge
01:32unit the ground team planned for that in only a couple days that baseball was also the highlight
01:36of my mission to be a part of both professionally and personally of course it's just an extraordinary
01:41experience the views are amazing on board our days consists mostly of maintenance of the space station
01:49and doing science to basically benefit life on earth and also to further our goals of exploration a lot of
01:56the work we're doing here on long duration spaceflight is going to inform the future missions that we do back
02:01to the moon and also on to Mars outside of our workday which is about 12 hours long in and of itself
02:07we have meals with our friends and we have other hobbies we can do keep in touch with people on earth look out
02:14the window take pictures read watch movies this is my favorite window to read by you can usually find
02:21me here on Sunday mornings sometimes it's sunnier though and that's a little bit nicer we don't have
02:27a ton of time for free time but what we do we make the best of it and I think the real joy about living
02:31up here is getting to know your crewmates and getting to spend time with them we hope you enjoy our day
02:36aboard the International Space Station a very important part of our daily routine on the
02:43International Space Station is exercise this ensures that we keep our muscles and bones healthy and that
02:49we can come back from our missions back to earth still in a healthy state so this is our resistive exercise
03:00device where we can actually achieve the same thing as lifting weights would be on earth in space in
03:06microgravity just like on the ground we have to wash our hair in space too so I'll show you a little bit
03:14about what that looks like in microgravity so we get some of our drinking water in a pouch like this a
03:19little initial rinse basically I'm just squeezing the water out of this drink bag as you can see here
03:28and I'm just getting that all in my hair one of the things that's interesting up here when I would
03:36work out on the ground if I'm running or biking or doing any kind of exercise I always have my hair
03:41back so it doesn't get in my face of course up here actually you don't need to do that it never gets in
03:46your face so often I'll just leave it down but when I say down up here it usually ends up being mostly up
03:53up like this but it stays out of your face while you're working out so that's all you need so I'm
04:01just working all the water through here getting a nice little rinse and of course because I'm in
04:07space I can also do it with what looks like being upside down to you you can feel like spider-man when
04:18we jump up to the ceiling like this up here it's gonna get a little bit of shampoo in here especially
04:22at the roots give it a bit of a scrub first I'm gonna get some of it out with a towel now we'll give
04:32it a rinse perhaps the most important part of washing the hair is getting rid of all the extra
04:41hair that's falling out so I don't leave it around all over the space station for my crewmates to find
04:45some people have described it a bit like you're floating along and suddenly you get hit in the
04:50face by something that feels like a spider web because somebody's long hair is just floating there
04:55in front of you and you can't see it okay I'm ready for my conditioner work some of that in here and
05:02this is just a leave-in conditioner and that's it that's how you wash your hair in space not that
05:07complicated so today we're gonna harvest the mizuna lettuce that we've been growing for about the past
05:16month this is the fourth iteration of the veggie experiment and this one is in particular looking
05:21at different light levels so we have two different wavelengths of light as you can see this one is a
05:26bit more red on the top and this one on the bottom is a little bit more blue so today Christina and I
05:30are harvesting the lettuce as I mentioned we'll be cutting several of these leaves off half of it to go back
05:35to the ground with the scientists to evaluate and half for us to make some delicious salads up here
05:41and that is quite a treat for us to have fresh lettuce up here on the space station since we
05:45don't have any many opportunities to have fresh food so right now Drew Morgan and Christina cook are
05:56doing a tool audit of the spacewalk tools for the upcoming spacewalk series that we will start this
06:03Friday here's Christina she's photo documenting the tool config for one of the crew lock bags
06:08they're doing this work in the airlock this is the area where the crew members get suited up in
06:21the space suits they'll be right here mounted to the wall getting into the space suits and then they'll
06:26go out just past Christina there into the crew lock and that's the area that we will depressurize in
06:32order to then open the hatch and go out into the vacuum of space to start the spacewalk another
06:37way that we spend our day on board the ISS is doing maintenance on the space station itself so
06:42you can see Jessica here is doing some cleaning of one of our ventilation ducts that's important
06:48because dust and debris that's in the air doesn't really fall to the ground in microgravity so it
06:52actually all ends up on the surface of our ventilation ducts
06:57What are you having for dinner today?
06:58Oh man, so bad. I have Indian fish curry in and also a rushing can that I actually took out already to cool down. That's one of my favorites. Yeah. I've got meat tips and mushrooms and I'm going to start with the pea soup.
06:59Okay, there you go. Try it.
07:01Okay, there you go. Try it.
07:02Okay, there you go. Try it.
07:03Okay, there you go. Try it.
07:04Okay, there you go. Try it.
07:05What are you having for dinner today?
07:06What are you having for dinner today?
07:07Oh man. So bad. I have Indian fish curry in and also a rushing can that I actually took out already
07:14to cool down a little bit. That's one of my favorites. Yeah.
07:17I've got meat tips and mushrooms and I'm going to start with the pea soup.
07:24There you go. Try it.
07:33I was going to try the beef steak. I haven't actually tried the beef steak yet.
07:37It's good.
07:39Okay.
07:40Let's put some music on for dinner.
07:42Absolutely.
07:43Alright, I'm going to attempt to do your trick and get the whole peel off in one.
07:47Okay.
07:48I have an honorary mirror.
07:49Oh, smell that.
07:51It smells so good. It's so fresh.
07:53It smells so good.
07:54Orange.
07:55I was going to find one.
07:56I know.
08:01Man.
08:02That would have been so awesome.
08:10This is our hygiene station.
08:12Can't go tonight without flossing, you know me.
08:14Believe me, I do.
08:16Oh, this is that exfoliator I was telling you about.
08:19I used it and I really like it.
08:20What do you think?
08:21I knew you would because it's all natural and it's actually food-based even.
08:24Yeah, it was just like there was some sugar in it.
08:26Yes.
08:27It tastes like that's sweet.
08:28It's like not gross if it gets in your mouth.
08:29But I used it the other day and I felt like my skin looked really good.
08:32Yeah.
08:33It's kind of like camping in some ways, you know.
08:37It is a lot like.
08:38If you have everything you need, you just don't have running water.
08:40It's just all a little different.
08:41Luckily we both love camping.
08:43Maybe I will try some of my facial cleanser today.
09:08Hey Goose.
09:09Hey.
09:10Our only time to stare at the Earth is after work.
09:15Right when we shouldn't be getting blasted by sunlight.
09:18We're over a lot of ocean right now.
09:20Yeah, we're over the Pacific.
09:22We're going to come over the tip of South America.
09:26Awesome.
09:36All shut down.
09:41Paran incon make.
09:43Good night Earth.
09:45Linda is happy to follow if you were missing out.
