00:00In his home country, what can he do today? We are all set on the grid here in Monte Carlo,
00:05it's lights out and away we go, Norris gets away brilliantly, Charles Leclerc is coming at him,
00:10Hager on the inside, trying, there's a lock up there from Lando Norris, but he makes it into
00:14the first turn, that was a bit scary for him for a few moments and they're all making their way
00:18around Sandoval and safely through, Charles Leclerc on the inside, almost spotted a gap
00:23through Massenet, nothing doing there, Piastri in third, there Verstappen, Isaac Hager, Fernando
00:28Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, Esteban Occon and Liam Wilson, he thought better of it and backed
00:33out, didn't want to pick up any damage down the inside there, goes Kimi Antonelli and into
00:38the barrier, goes Gabriel Bortoletto, one of six rookies in this race and the Salva, he's
00:45stranded at Portiletto. Antonelli's gone up the inside, bona fide overtake, but has obviously
00:50caught Bortoletto out, I suspect they had Occon's tyres on the front and this is, so Bortoletto's
00:57gone round the outside of the hairpin and taken the place and Antonelli's decided he's
01:02decided he's having it straight back again. Well the gap was there, or did he, was he far
01:11enough alongside the Sauber on the inside whilst trying to overtake?
01:16Tremendous run down the outside, Norris got away well, but in the second phase, Leclerc found
01:22more grip and Lando locked his front tyres, a bit of cadence breaking, Piastri fending off,
01:27Verstappen as well, so both McLaren are struggling a bit, but doing well in racecraft to maintain
01:32position there, but as we saw, Lando then, this is a horrible lock-up with full tanks of
01:40fuel, and he will have little flat spots on both those front tyres, you run about 56%
01:46from brake bias, that's why the front axle locks up rather than the rear axle, and Lando did well
01:54to get off the brake pedal and turn the steering wheel. And unlike in Imola last week, Oscar Piastri
02:00fends off Max Verstappen, who was trying to go round the outside at the right-hander, not a left-hander
02:05this time around. Here's Kimi Antonelli, the gap's there for him to charge it right up the
02:10tail of Liam Lawson, and that's the double wave yellow for Pierre Gasly. Now, is this
02:16going to result in team's pitting? Are we going to get a virtual safety car? Is Gasly going
02:21to get back to the pits? He hasn't got a long to go, but that wheel is hanging on by a thread.
02:26You're absolutely told to park him straight away, because you've got no brakes. You're obliged
02:31to park that straight away. So Gasly has hit the wall here. He's not going to park it
02:37straight away. He's going to turn right-handed and come into the pits for how much debris
02:41has been dropped. Let's have a look at the incident. Into the tunnel we go. That's Yuki
02:47Tsunoda ahead of Pierre Gasly into the daylight, dropping down, under braking. Oh! So I'm amazed
02:55if that hasn't damaged Tsunoda's car. So what happened is he lost the brake. He lost the tail
03:02under braking. So the pit, even if there's a safety car now, pit entry. Oh, he so nearly took
03:08his teammate out as well. Yeah. So what happened there is he locked the rear axle, Gasly, and just
03:14couldn't slow down. And that's... That's a strong red bull. That's what that is. Isn't it just? And there's the front
03:19wing, or part of it, flying across Yuki Tsunoda. What is he doing?
03:26Well, what was the reason for that? There was no overtake on, that is for sure. What do you want me to do?
03:33You want me to keep pushing? We save, we let him go. Plan B, stay with Norris.
03:39OK. That's why you're one driver, one with another. I know I have a kidney, Richard, so let's keep
03:43pushing now. I'm going to cover Hamilton. Ah, can't push now! Doesn't even have a new set of
03:49soft tyres at Max Verstappen. Here goes Oli Behrmann down the inside, battling here with Lance Stroll, and
03:55Lance Stroll was not about to let the hat's car past, and both of them did well to avoid any major
04:01contact and a hit into the back. If you pass three blue flags, and don't yield, you'll get a penalty.
04:08Medium tyres on Oli Behrmann. Yeah, didn't it? Yeah. Oh, that's why he had to go over the curb.
04:13He had a massive slide on the way in, had to counter-steer into the slide. Through there has Lawson.
04:24Long before he was born, but I think I know what he means.
04:27Oh, Ted, just a couple of seconds. Fernando Alonso is pulling out to retire, and look at that.
04:33That, as disappointing as that is for Fernando Alonso, he has gone straight to a gap and has got
04:38his car out of the way. So we can cover this under yellow flags without the need for a safety car.
04:44Yeah, retire the car. Spoke.
04:47Max Verstappen running a solid job on the medium tyres. Currently his fourth fastest,
04:5211 laps those medium tyres have done. If Alex Albon gets that much closer or any more closer to the
04:57barriers, his medium tyres, I'm going to lie. And that is a proper team game. As Piastri slid
05:02into the wall, he did bang the barrier a bit going through Sandoval. He's had a few leery moments,
05:08hasn't he, this weekend, Oscar, on the throttle. Consistency has not been his buzzword as Antonelli
05:14outbraking himself into that chicane. And he has been on those tyres, Kimi Antonelli from the start.
05:20They've done 42 laps. If you leave the track and gain an advantage at the chicane, you are obliged to
05:26give that place back before you get to Tabak turn 12. That's what the race director's event notes say.
05:33And George Russell didn't do that. So he's just, I think, like you say, I'll take the penalty because
05:38I'll make up the time. Could he come out ahead of Oscar Piastri? That's the key. And that's George
05:43Russell cutting the corner. Oh, sorry, Kimi Antonelli getting very close to the barriers.
05:51To avoid the collision from Albon. He slammed on the brakes.
05:55So we need to give that position back to Albon. I'll take the penalty. He's driving erratically.
06:01They've given er, Russell, a drive-through, so a 20-second penalty for the er, er, well, for being very cheeky, basically.
06:12Two seconds, Dave. So we've got a drive-through penalty, but we'll delay it as long as we can.
06:18To be honest.
06:20Not possibly.
06:22Hey, Phil.
06:25Yeah, but he has to take it because otherwise he'll get a grid penalty.
06:27Oh, two seconds. Take radio.
06:29So at the end, we will swap the cars back.
06:32OK, let's do more race until the last time of it.
06:35We never know what's going to happen in front.
06:38Alex will finish the race tonight, don't worry.
06:41Better play from Carlos Sainz.
06:43The top four at the end of lap 64 was only 6.4 seconds.
06:50Verstappen leading, but he has to pit again.
06:53Norris, Leclerc, Piastri looking like the podium sitters at the moment.
06:57I'm sure out of the chicane on board as we are with the Williams of Alex Albon.
07:02And Carlos Sainz makes way.
07:03He was always going to swap around and they're back to 9th and 10th.
07:06Albon ahead of Sainz.
07:07Cheery little wave there from Alex Albon.
07:09Just been stuck in that train all the way through the race.
07:15That was close.
07:17Well judged.
07:19He's on it.
07:19He is certainly on it.
07:20It's just not possible to pass him.
07:22Slowest tour of the...
07:26One hand completely off the steering wheel there.
07:28They need all the steering light and actually you change the geometry
07:32often for here to give you a little bit more lock for the hairpin.
07:35Yeah, Max is just backing me up.
07:37At least not even fishing.
07:41Which is his prerogative, isn't it?
07:43Which is what we expected.
07:44Charles Leclerc, if he's going to do it, if he's going to do anything,
07:47he's going to have to try and do it now to get past Lando Norris.
07:51And no, nothing doing at Rascad.
07:54Because the clear air comes to Lando Norris' aid.
07:58Max Verstappen stops Lewis Hamilton.
08:00So he won the opening race of the season in Australia
08:04and he's been kept waiting to get back onto the top step of the podium.
08:08But the wait is not going to wait much longer.
08:12Lando Norris rounds the final corner.
08:15A record lap in qualifying to take pole.
08:18And victory in Monaco for the first time in his career.
08:21Lando Norris wins the Monaco Grand Prix.
08:24Charles Leclerc comes home for a fabulous second
08:28that he didn't think was possible on Wednesday night.
08:30Oscar Piastri third is a 1-3 for McLaren.
08:33And a strong race for them.
08:35There you go.
08:35P1 in Monaco, baby.
08:38Monaco, baby.
08:40Yeah, baby.
08:43Touch of the Jensen pumps.
08:45We did it.
08:46About that one.
08:48We won in Monaco.
08:50That's a dream.
08:52Well done, guys.
08:53Unbelievable job.
08:55Amazing weekend.
08:57Thank you so much.
