The Handmaid’s Tale Loses Major Character Ahead of Series Finale | E! News

00:00Fans of The Handmaid's Tale saw three major characters meet their demise.

00:05Warning, major spoilers ahead.

00:08Episode 9 of the show's sixth and final season, fittingly titled Execution,

00:12saw two June Osborne allies, her love and baby daddy Nick Blaine and Joseph Lawrence,

00:18plus the evil Gabriel Wharton, all perish.

00:21June and U.S. Representative Mark Tuello conspired with the Resistance ally Commander Lawrence

00:26to plant a bomb on a plane full of commanders.

00:30But just like the best laid plans, it went awry,

00:32with the commander showing up early and Commander Lawrence sacrificing himself for the good of the Resistance.

00:38Unfortunately, at the last minute, Nick joined them all on the plane,

00:42and all June could do was hopelessly watch the plane break into pieces from the ground.

00:47Leading up to the big moment, actor Max Minghella revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter

00:52that he learned of Nick's death from Elizabeth Moss before the final season.

00:56He told the outlet, quote,

00:58This is a very poignant way to end, to me.

01:00I felt like a grounded version of Nick,

01:02and what I was really impressed by was how much it was not what I thought it was going to be.

01:07Bradley Woodford, however, says he was torn over filming Commander Lawrence's final moments,

01:11telling the outlet, quote,

01:12I was very happy that Lawrence made the choice that he made.

01:15I think as he's listening to Nick and sitting on the plane in the final scene,

01:18he's thinking,

01:19This poor kid is another victim of this hellscape that I created.
