00:00:59Guatemala, a strange and beautiful country many thousands of miles away.
00:01:04A country with lofty snow-crested mountains, mighty rivers and deep lakes,
00:01:09quaint little villages and picturesque natives.
00:01:12This is Guatemala on the surface, what a tourist might see, if a tourist could ever get there.
00:01:19But under this superficial beauty lie many unsuspected dangers.
00:01:24Those mighty rivers run through treacherous jungle where wild animal life lurks in the shadows.
00:01:30Man-eating lions roam abroad.
00:01:32The deep lakes are infested with crocodile and alligators.
00:01:40And the natives may look picturesque, but are deadly to a white man.
00:01:45In the heart of this impenetrable jungle stand the ruins of all that is left of an ancient Mayan civilization.
00:01:52Older fire than Guatemala.
00:01:55The natives today are in great anger.
00:01:57Their ancient idol, the green goddess, has been snatched from the high altar.
00:02:02The high priest vows to avenge by a slow and torturing death the violator and desecrator of the sacred cathedral.
00:02:10But unknown to the natives, unknown even to the high priest, this stolen idol is more than a graven image.
00:02:17The hidden inside it is a secret formula for a new explosive.
00:02:21Powerful and deadly enough to blow whole cities sky high.
00:02:25A potential menace to modern civilization.
00:02:27And a real menace should the formula fall into unscrupulous hands.
00:02:32Tarzan and his band of intrepid followers, both men and women, have faced untold dangers.
00:02:38Wild animals, hostile natives, a rival expedition of murderous crooks and the horrors of fever-infested swamps
00:02:46to take the idol from the natives that the secret formula might be safe.
00:02:51At last successful, with the goddess in their possession, the Tarzan expedition starts on its long and arduous journey home.
00:02:58Everything's checked, Major Martley.
00:03:01Splendid.
00:03:02Well, I hope you have a nice trip to Livingston.
00:03:06Goodbye, sir.
00:03:07And good luck.
00:03:09Miss Vejo.
00:03:10Goodbye.
00:03:11Goodbye, Tarzan.
00:03:13Goodbye, old man.
00:03:14Goodbye, George.
00:03:16Goodbye.
00:03:20Nothing to do now but go home, sir.
00:03:22Right, George.
00:03:24Home abound at last.
00:03:26To the green goddess.
00:03:28And our mission fulfilled, Martley.
00:03:30Yes.
00:03:32Thanks to you, old man.
00:03:35Our only remaining task is the safe return of this relic to civilization.
00:03:40Well, shall we proceed?
00:03:41Surely.
00:03:43I'll get Nakim and follow.
00:03:46Come out.
00:03:50Get your banners ready.
00:03:51Put your best man on this.
00:04:14Senior Powers here.
00:04:19I'm Raglan.
00:04:34Well, Raglan.
00:04:39What's the care?
00:04:41Did you find the dead city?
00:04:44Yes.
00:04:46I found the dead city and the goddess.
00:04:49The goddess, eh?
00:04:51Well, where is it?
00:04:55Well, it was in my hands when...
00:04:56Oh, never mind the excuses.
00:05:00Where is the idol now?
00:05:03The Martling expedition has it.
00:05:06So the Martling expedition has it, eh?
00:05:09Colonel Blunder, do you realize what your mistake means?
00:05:13We've lost a fortune.
00:05:15That green goddess contained the formula for ancient Mayan explosives.
00:05:18Any nation would give millions to get it, millions.
00:05:21Well, I'd like to see you got them from that ape man.
00:05:24The ape man?
00:05:30Do you mean Tarzan?
00:05:32I wonder if you know what it means to be in the jungles with him on your trail.
00:05:37Any moment, a lad will have dropped down out of a tree, lurking in the very shadows,
00:05:42hands almost clutching your throat.
00:05:46Why, I tell you, man, I was lucky to get out of there with my life, let alone any goddess.
00:05:59Look here, Raglan, we still have a chance.
00:06:04I'll leave at once for the east coast.
00:06:06I'll have Simon Blade meet you with his ship at Libby.
00:06:10There's only one trail leading to the re-adultery,
00:06:14and the Martling expedition will have to paddle on it to get to the river.
00:06:17Sure.
00:06:19Now, what's to prevent you from going there?
00:06:26Now, you get men hidden on both sides of the ravine.
00:06:42Si, senor.
00:06:44Let's do it.
00:06:56Let's paddle out.
00:07:05I wish Tarzan wouldn't lag behind us like this.
00:07:08Maybe something's happened to him.
00:07:10Ridiculous.
00:07:12What would happen to Tarzan?
00:07:14You never can tell.
00:07:16Suppose, uh, suppose some of those monsters from the dead city has followed us.
00:07:20Well, you know, they may be right.
00:07:21Don't be silly, George.
00:07:23There isn't anything to fear any longer.
00:07:42Come on, let's keep going.
00:08:04Get your men moving.
00:08:04Come on, let's get out of here.

00:10:13Miss Beth?
00:10:14Are you alright?
00:10:16I think so.
00:10:19I still have to get that code book from Martlyn.
00:10:22You watch the Goddess while I see what I can do.
00:10:24Be safe.
00:10:29The Goddess, it's gone.
00:10:33What'd I tell you?
00:10:34Didn't I tell you that those fellows from the ruins would be on our trail?
00:10:38Whoever stole the goddess had no connection with the dead city, George.
00:10:41Whom do you suspect, then?
00:10:43It wouldn't surprise me if it were Raglin.
00:10:47What about the document?
00:10:53Thank heaven they didn't get it.
00:10:56The coat is no good without the goddess.
00:10:59Without this document, the thief dare not open the goddess.
00:11:03He'd be blown to ashes by the secret explosive it contains.
00:11:07Then there's still a chance to recover the goddess.
00:11:09Have the porters make camp.
00:11:11Hamas, prepare camp here.
00:12:03Major! Major!
00:12:10Raglin.
00:12:22Merkley!
00:12:23What happened?
00:12:25Take your time, Merkley.
00:12:30It was Raglin.
00:12:36The book. Gone.
00:13:00You two men go to Mantique and send that message from the radio office.
00:13:04Yes, sir.
00:13:05If all goes well, I'll meet you at Puerto Berrios.
00:13:30Well, what's the matter, little fellow?
00:13:34Let me see what's bothering you.
00:13:37Well, no wonder you're limping.
00:13:41All right, I'll have it out in a moment.
00:13:48There it is.
00:13:59There it is.
00:14:29Oh, my God!
00:14:59Oh, my God!
00:15:29Oh, my God!
00:15:59Oh, my God!
00:16:29Oh, my God!
00:17:00anges
00:17:16Clause?
00:17:17What about Raglin? Did you see him?
00:17:19Raglin caught the boat to Puerto Berrios.
00:17:22I'm sorry to have failed, Martlyn.
00:17:25But if we get the stack for the river at once,
00:17:27we can signal the next boat and catch Raglan there.
00:17:33We'll break camp at once.
00:17:47All right, George, they see us.
00:18:27Our better plan would be to search the cantina.
00:18:42Raglan would most likely hide in some out-of-the-way place.
00:18:47Let's split here.
00:18:49I'll go through this neighborhood and you can search the other parts of town.
00:18:54Glenda, I have to go to the cable office anyhow.
00:18:57I'd like to go along with you, Major, if I may.
00:19:00Certainly, my dear.
00:19:12There's been no word?
00:19:14No, senor. Your friend has sent no message.
00:19:18I'm going to my room.
00:19:19If anyone inquires from me, I'm not there.
00:19:23You understand?
00:19:25Perfectly.
00:19:28Everything all right?
00:19:42Well, did we get any word?
00:19:48Yes, there's a radiogram for you.
00:19:51Where is it?
00:20:14How do you get to it, by boat?
00:20:16No, it's in the interior.
00:20:17You'll have to cut through the jungle to get there.
00:20:21George.
00:20:23Yes, sir.
00:20:24Can I rely on you to do just one thing correctly?
00:20:27Oh, yes, sir.
00:20:28Well, stay around here.
00:20:30I have no time to waste looking for you when I return.
00:20:33I'll be over on that bench and I'll stay right there.
00:20:36I'll see that you do.
00:20:38No, sir.
00:20:39Oh, I mean, yes, sir.
00:21:20George.
00:21:51And what is the meaning of this?
00:22:00Well, you see, sir, I sat down on that bench with the best of intentions.
00:22:06But this guy insisted that I see Port Avarious.
00:22:10And besides, he had my yo-yo.
00:22:13Come on.
00:22:17Yes, sir.
00:22:18No.
00:22:40My search has ended, Markling.
00:22:42What do you mean?
00:22:43Franklin was on that balcony just a moment ago.
00:22:47What are you going to do?
00:22:50Jungle tracking's for me.
00:23:05I'd like to see Mr. Ragland.
00:23:07There's no one here by that name.
00:23:12He may use another name.
00:23:14I've already told you he is not here.
00:23:16Very well.
00:25:16Oh, gosh.
00:25:27Look!
00:25:29Come on.
00:25:38You hurt badly, old man?
00:25:40Gee, I think all your bones will be broken.
00:25:43I'm all right, George.
00:25:47Well, then, what happened?
00:25:51I found Ragland in a room up there and attempted to get the eye a little bit.
00:26:01Listen, you get some native bearers.
00:26:03And we'll meet you at the south end of town.
00:26:06All right, chief.
00:26:08You can certainly be thankful you recovered the code.
00:26:12Yes.
00:26:14But if I hadn't been so impulsive, we might have the goddess, too.
00:26:21What is it?
00:26:33It's a clue to Ragland's route and plans.
00:26:35Look.
00:26:39Let us find some bearers and start at once.
00:26:41We must stop them before we meet the others.
00:26:45Here, you better take care of this.
00:26:52Say, what's the idea, chief?
00:26:54What's the hurry?
00:26:56Tarzan.
00:26:57He might be on our trail.
00:26:58Not a chance.
00:26:59Not after falling off my balcony, will he?
00:27:01Like a broke in his neck.
00:27:04Not Tarzan.
00:27:05He's got more lives than the jungle animals he plays with.
00:27:08You wait back there for me.
00:27:09If Tarzan comes, you'll be needing all the men.
00:27:11Don't worry, we'll handle him.
00:27:17All right, boys.
00:27:39I wonder if the chief is right about Tarzan being on our trail.
00:27:43Ah, that chief is crazy.
00:27:45I tell you that guy Tarzan is as dead as a mackerel.
00:28:15Come on.
00:28:31Go on.
00:28:33Wait.
00:28:34Oh, let me finish him.
00:28:36No, let's hold him until the chief gets back.
00:28:37Then we can force him into our martiniers and get the cold stuff back.
00:28:41All right, get a rope on this pike and we'll tie him up.
00:29:03That'll hold until the chief gets back.
00:29:33Shh, shh.
00:30:33What was that?
00:30:55You asking me?
00:31:11There it is again.
00:31:29Hey, stop!
00:31:33Come back here!
00:31:44Hey!
00:32:11Hey!
00:32:19No, no!
00:32:23No, no!
00:32:25We were just obeying orders.
00:32:30Come here.
00:32:38Where's Raglan?
00:32:40Oh, they're out somewhere.
00:32:42He didn't want anyone to know where he hid the goggles.
00:32:46All right.
00:32:47Get out of here, both of you.
00:32:49And don't stop until you get to Fort O'Barry.
00:33:50Come on.
00:33:59Come on.
00:34:13Shh, shh.
00:34:41Shh, shh.
00:35:10We lost the tail, George.
00:35:23Maybe he's hiding somewhere.
00:35:25Trying to open the goggles.
00:35:44Raglan.
00:35:46Emmanuel may be following him.
00:35:53We'll go that way, George.
00:35:55And see if his trail leads to the river.
00:35:57I'll scout along the top of the bank.
00:36:00Yes, sir.
00:36:15Help!
00:36:38Take them off!
00:36:39Let me come with you!
00:36:41Take them off!
00:36:49Any trace of Raglan?
00:36:51No.
00:36:53We lost his trail down near the river.
00:36:55George is searching the other way.
00:36:57Take them off!
00:36:58Take them off!
00:36:59Raglan!
00:37:00Raglan!
00:37:02Major Manley!
00:37:03Major Manley!
00:37:04Raglan!
00:37:05Hey, Major Manley!
00:37:06Oh, God!
00:37:07Oh!
00:37:08Raglan Manley!
00:37:09Take it off!
00:37:10Take it off!
00:37:11There's nothing there, George.
00:37:13They attacked me.
00:37:14Thousands upon thousands!
00:37:16Thousands of what?
00:37:17Turtles!
00:37:20Listen, Major.
00:37:21Really, there was, there was something.
00:37:23Oh, your code book.
00:37:25I can't get it.
00:37:27Oh!
00:37:30Help!
00:37:31Help!
00:37:32Help!
00:37:33Help!
00:37:34Don't tire Tarzan.
00:37:35He's got to get that book.
00:37:56Look, Tarzan.
00:37:57He's going to get it.
00:38:26Tarzan!
00:38:31Get up.
00:38:34Get up.
00:38:37Get up, get up, come on, I got him.
00:39:04Get up, get up, come on, I got him.
00:39:34Get up, get up, come on, I got him.
00:40:04Get up, get up, come on, I got him.
00:40:26Hey!
00:40:30Get in here.
00:40:35Nango, try to find Major Martley. He must be somewhere at the top of the falls.
00:40:40Yes, Miss.
00:41:04Tarzan!
00:41:14Tarzan!
00:41:16Miss Vail.
00:41:23The book. I've lost the code book to the goddess.
00:41:26The book is safe, Tarzan.
00:41:28But how? Where?
00:41:29You dropped it when we brought you ashore.
00:41:32But Raglan made his escape with the goddess.
00:41:35We saw him headed downstream in a cayuca.
00:41:38Then I must hurry after him at once.
00:41:45What is it, Nango? Speak English.
00:41:47Black Devil, take away Senior Martley and Senior George.
00:41:52Black Devil? What do you mean?
00:41:54He means Queen Maya's monsters.
00:41:56The black-robed emissaries of the high priest.
00:41:58Take your men and return to camp.
00:42:00And you?
00:42:01I'm going to try to pick up their trail.
00:42:03But Tarzan!
00:42:08Should we come, senorita?
00:42:10No, we're heading for the dead city.
00:42:13If Tarzan loses their trail, we may be able to help.
00:42:16But senorita, those black devils...
00:42:18Never mind, hurry up.
00:42:28TARZAN YELLS
00:42:59You are to be held as hostages for the safe return of the green goddess.
00:43:04You speak English.
00:43:06Who are you?
00:43:08Who am I?
00:43:10What does it matter?
00:43:12Once I was known in the world of science.
00:43:15But 20 years ago, I cast my lot with these people.
00:43:20And I am content.
00:43:29No, he...
00:43:31He demands to know where you have taken the green goddess.
00:43:35It was stolen and carried away by someone else.
00:43:38Someone not in our party.
00:43:52You must produce the goddess.
00:43:54If you fail, you die.

00:49:50Listen, I'm being watched.
00:49:54I'll have a man signal you from the point.
00:49:58Do you understand?
00:50:00Aye, aye, sir.
00:50:06What do we do now?
00:50:08Crawl through here. When they come for me, we'll make a break for it.
00:50:12WHINNYING
00:50:20Keep up your nerve. Here they come.
00:50:42DRUMMING
00:51:02Oh, look!
00:51:09Where have they brought us here?
00:51:11We've been questioned by the High Priest through me.
00:51:16These instruments bring out truthful answers.
00:51:20But I've already told you.
00:51:22We haven't the Green Goddess, nor do we know where it is.
00:51:25The fellow brought them to the Raglan Goddess.
00:51:27And we don't know what he did with it.
00:51:29What?
00:51:30What's he going to do to me?
00:51:32That's why you can tell him nothing.
00:51:34Let them question me.
00:51:36DRUMMING
00:52:06Oh, my God!
00:52:36WHINNYING
00:52:39WHINNYING
00:52:41DRUMMING
00:53:05Thank heaven we escaped without any casualties.
00:53:08Say, what would happen to Raglan if the monsters caught him with the Goddess?
00:53:12I don't think they will, George.
00:53:15By now, Raglan's probably found a safe refuge.
00:53:18Don't give up hope, Major. We may yet catch Raglan.
00:53:22When I saw him heading downstream, I sent one of my men after him.
00:53:26He'll either return with news or send word.
00:53:29Look! Someone's coming!
00:53:34It must be Lopez.
00:53:36The messenger says he's sent from the Antiques.
00:53:56How are you, Lopez?
00:53:57Fine, thank you.
00:54:02Are you Raglan?
00:54:03Yes.
00:54:04Senor Lopez.
00:54:08Raglan seems to be waiting for someone at Mantique.
00:54:11But whom?
00:54:12Jose does not yet know.
00:54:14Well, is Jose still watching Raglan?
00:54:16Oh, si, senor.
00:54:18And there's a strange sailing ship laying off the shore south of Mantique.
00:54:22And Jose thinks that possibly those whom Raglan's waiting for are on board that boat.
00:54:28I'd like to see that mysterious ship.
00:54:30The Cayuca won't carry all of us.
00:54:32So I'll cut through the jungle and meet you at Mantique.
00:55:00The Cayuca
00:55:31The Cayuca
00:55:40Halt!
00:56:00Halt!
00:56:31Halt!
00:56:44Put your hands off my carters.
00:56:47This will be the last time you meddle in my business.
00:57:00Halt!
00:57:10What's that?
00:57:11The gutter.
00:57:12Quick, we'd better get out of here.
00:57:14We have a car back on the road.
00:57:15Good.
00:57:20All right, I'll get my party together and be aboard within an hour or so.
00:57:24That'll be fine, Major.
00:57:31Mantique
00:57:41Empty-handed, huh?
00:57:43So we're sailing without the gutters.
00:57:49And who's the bungler now?
00:57:52Well, mister, the contents, the jewels and the formula are aboard this ship now.
00:58:01You mean that Markling has chartered this vessel?
00:58:04Exactly.
00:58:07He wanted to escape you.
00:58:09I made it my business to see that this was the only ship available.
00:58:13Why, Flay, that's very clever.
00:58:15Very, very clever.
00:58:21Well, why not get what we want and get rid of these people?
00:58:25Oh, no.
00:58:27You've made too many mistakes already.
00:58:30I'm not doing this from now on.
00:58:36I've warned you.
00:58:38Don't show that ugly mug on deck.
00:58:48I've put our best cabin at your disposal, Miss Bale.
00:58:50I hope you'll be comfortable.
00:58:51Thank you. I know I will be.
00:58:53It isn't often these days we have a lady aboard.
00:58:56I suppose not, Captain.
00:58:57I know you're going to have a very pleasant voyage.
00:58:59I'm sure of it.
00:59:01Now, Major, if you'll excuse me, I'll give orders to set sail.
00:59:05Linda.
00:59:10Well, homeward bound at last.
00:59:15Blow up on your board, mate, come!
00:59:17Nice pullover, Captain.
00:59:18Very.
00:59:20The shade's too nice.
00:59:22Break out, old man, mate!
00:59:24All aboard!
00:59:25All aboard!
00:59:26Go!
00:59:27Take off your hats!
00:59:30Take off your hats!
00:59:33Let go of your seat! Let go of your sack!
00:59:56Let go of your seat!
01:00:27Follow this wind.
01:00:31We're heading into a bad storm, Major.
01:00:33Yes, looks like it. How do you feel?
01:00:35I think I'll turn in before it gets worse.
01:00:37All right, my dear.
01:00:38Good night.
01:00:39Good night.
01:00:40Good night.
01:00:57Raglan's on board.
01:00:58I just saw him.
01:01:03Are you quite sure, Eula?
01:01:04Positive, Sargeant.
01:01:06Where?
01:01:07I was on the way to my cabin.
01:01:09He was in the companionway.
01:01:14All right, Marlene.
01:01:16We've walked you to a trap.
01:01:19You may not know that Eula saw Raglan.
01:01:21You brought this thing to a crisis before I was ready, did you?
01:01:24What do you mean?
01:01:25That mailwoman saw you.
01:01:27Yeah?
01:01:32So what?
01:01:33I warned you!
01:01:34Oh, you...
01:01:39All of you go quietly to your cabin.
01:01:41I'll remain on deck.
01:01:42I may learn something definite.
01:01:45Get some of the crew and get him out of here.
01:01:47Aye-aye, sir.
01:01:58All right?
01:02:01Fine.
01:02:14All right.
01:02:35Mr. Beating, is he...
01:02:40Raglan!
01:02:41Beat it!
01:02:44Beat it!
01:03:14Look at all those men!
01:03:16Hey!
01:03:17Hey!
01:03:18Hey!
01:03:19Hey!
01:03:20Hey!
01:03:41What are you going to have these men on the boat?
01:03:46What are you going to have these men on the boat?
01:03:53Let's turn away forward!
01:04:15Let's turn away forward!
01:04:45The mains are adjoining!
01:04:46The prisoners are in their cellars!
01:04:47No!
01:04:48No!
01:05:15No!
01:05:29See it?
01:05:40Can you read it, Markling?
01:05:41Yes.
01:05:43Uh, partly.
01:05:45This is undoubtedly the formula.
01:06:08And here's the formula.
01:06:10The cause of all our difficulties.
01:06:11Well, that's all over now.
01:06:13I've looked in the crystal and seen that it's much too dangerous to be in anyone's hands.
01:06:18There was major...
01:06:44Well, Eula, do you feel compensated for all your hardships now that the document is destroyed?
01:06:51More than compensated, Tarzan.
01:06:54Meeting and learning to know you is well worth any hardship.
01:06:59I'm the one who is grateful, Eula, for having met you.
01:07:06Then we both owe much to that little parchment.
01:07:09We surely do.
01:07:13THE END
