00:00Good to see you both.
00:01Good to see you again.
00:02Yes, lovely to see you both.
00:04You too.
00:04Same.
00:05Thank you for delivering on another Mission Impossible movie.
00:08You have such presence, so it makes so much sense
00:11that you would be US president.
00:13Like, just makes sense when I saw it.
00:15But did you and Tom get to hang at all for this film?
00:19Because it feels like it's only phone calls, right?
00:22So either on screen, off screen, like,
00:24did you guys actually get to hang together?
00:26A little bit.
00:27We all celebrated his birthday during the making of the film.
00:30So that was pretty special, that we were filming here in London,
00:34and his birthday occurred one weekend.
00:36So that was great.
00:38That was a fun time.
00:39Oh, nice.
00:40OK, you got a little bit of Tom time then.
00:43Pom, how is everyone's French coming along?
00:46You spend a bit of time with them all now.
00:47Like, is Simon conversing with you in French now?
00:51No, he's not.
00:53But he was actually really quick to pick it up.
00:57And to, you know, because, like, the scenes were written in English,
01:01and oftentimes I had to translate it the day off.
01:04And so I would just, like, repeat the things to him,
01:08and he would, like, repeat after.
01:09And, yeah, and he did a great job, actually.
01:12We made the decision that, well, I said we made the decision.
01:16McHugh made the, and with Pom, although sometimes you were like,
01:20I'd like to say this line in English, but we loved that Paris was so kind of like
01:24her own person that she just spoke her own language.
01:27And when we speak to Paris, we speak to her in French, you know,
01:31because she kind of commands that respect.
01:32So it was fun learning, you know.
01:35And it was nice watching it in Cannes because I thought,
01:38oh, I'm speaking French.
01:39Can you put any of it into practice now?
01:42Only if you need to perform an emergency tracheotomy or whatever it is.
01:46Right.
01:47Yeah, I hope it never comes off in my life.
01:49What has it been like for you, like, working with Tom on Maverick, on these?
01:54Is he training you up to be the next Tom Cruise?
01:56Oh, man, that's, that's, let me say this.
02:00That's some big shoes to fill.
02:03And that Tom has made a lane for himself that I don't think anybody's going to be able to fill.
02:08But I do think he's training me up to, you know, stand on my own two feet.
02:12And my goal is to become a movie star, just like Tom in my own right.
02:15So hopefully all of this training can be applied in a proper way.
02:20And I can, you know, 30, 40 years, look back at my career and, you know,
02:23have this, you know, thing going on like he does.
02:27It's not going to want you in two of his biggest franchises if you're not doing a good job.
02:30Then something's wrong.
02:32Oh, that's a lot of pressure.
02:33I got to follow up.
02:34I can't do like.
02:35You delivered, you delivered.
02:36Also, I saw Michael B. Jordan turned up to the premiere as well.
02:40Yeah.
02:41What, how much does it mean to you to have like, you know, people who I think you kind
02:44of consider family, like turning up to support your film like this?
02:48That was so special.
02:49So, so special.
02:50And I just, you just got an opportunity to gush on him and in Sinners, you know, recently
02:55also out in the movie, another great movie.
02:58And I said, you know, hey, what's better than one Michael B. Jordan?
03:01Two.
03:02Two of them.
03:05Yeah.
03:06So it was great.
03:07It was great to see him there.
03:08It's so.
03:09And seeing Tom embrace.
03:10Oh my gosh.
03:11That was just the moment.
03:12Love to that.
03:13I do want to know though, it's been like 20 years of your life.
03:17What's it meant to you to, to be a part of this and to like form that friendship with Tom
03:23over all this time.
03:24Like it's so rare in movies to kind of get.
03:27Yeah.
03:28To place the six films and, and to get to sort of develop the character.
03:32What was really interesting to me was that it doesn't feel like that long ago that I
03:36was Benji working in the lab in mission impossible three before he was a field agent.
03:41And then when we got to do dead reckoning and these guys joined, I felt like the old
03:46man of this, of the film, you know.
03:47The wise man.
03:48The wise old man.
03:49And so when, because we make these films in particular ways and, and because we stay together,
03:56you know, and at the time we were all very much bubbled together because it was 2020.
04:01Everyone would always come to me to say, what's, particularly Shay.
04:05Shay would always want to ask, what are we doing?
04:08How is this done?
04:09And it was funny to suddenly be a senior member of the cast.
04:12Yeah.
04:13I mean, at some point we're like traveling to different countries together and we spent so
04:16much time together.
04:17They were like almost like codependent, you know, with the group.
04:21It was like, what are you doing tonight?
04:22Okay.
04:23Um, so, uh, should we hang?
04:25And you know, I was like, what?
04:26And then like, we go back home.
04:28We're like, Oh, where's my friend?
04:30It's true.
04:31It's like when you go away with your friends, you miss them when you go home.
04:34Yeah.
04:35Yeah.
04:36We got so used to it.
04:37We got so used to living so close to each other and yeah, but it worked for the film.
04:40It does work for the film.
04:41I obviously have seen the film.
04:43So I know how your character evolves, but obviously people watching this haven't.
04:47So from dead reckoning to this one, like how much has grace evolved?
04:52I can't give anything away.
04:54You've never got to go see it.
04:55I think she's, um, I, you know, I love her unpredictability.
04:59She's pretty slippery and mercurial and, and, um, definitely the first one, she was a lone wolf.
05:04Yeah.
05:05Um, so again, with this one, there was lots of different interpretations of each scene and gave them a lot of options to work with.
05:12So it wasn't until I saw the film that I went, okay, that's the version that they've gone for.
05:15Oh.
05:16So, um, it's really about how, how the dynamic fits into the, into the context of the story in the most interesting way for audiences.
05:23Oh my God.
05:24Yeah.
05:25I would love to see the other interpretations.
05:27Yeah.
05:28When do we get to see that?
05:29She's just singing and at one point it's just interpretive dance.
05:31Yes.
05:32I mean, that would be wonderful.
05:34It's something new that Mission has not tried before.
05:37And the Q has a director's cut.
05:39So just asking for it.
05:40Obviously Tom is known for doing the most extreme stunts as we see through all of this.
05:44Extreme.
05:45Yeah.
05:46That's the way to put it.
05:47Yeah.
05:48What's the most extreme thing that you have ever done in your life?
05:49I'm a scaredy cat.
05:51Are you actually?
05:52I, you know, my husband likes to, uh, you know, kid me from, we were out doing something
05:57and, and, uh, someone came up to me, came up to us as if we were exiting a, a restaurant
06:03and he was like, can you help me?
06:04My brother, my brother, haven't seen, have you seen him go by?
06:07And I said, is it trouble?
06:09And she went out, they were like, she fell out.
06:14He was like, you weren't trying to help.
06:17You were like, does he have a gun, a knife?
06:19Is it, but all you could manage to say was, I, is it trouble?
06:24Because if it is, I'm out.
06:26I'm out of here.
06:28I like how calm and composed you were though.
06:30I feel like that.
06:31You know, you pull back, cock ahead and, that was the truth now.
06:35See, when I look at you, I feel like nothing would rattle you.
06:38Like you just, you have, you are the vision of composure.
06:42Oh yeah.
06:43That outward exterior.
06:44So it's just hiding a scared interior.
06:46Yes, yes.
06:47So how have you done anything then?
06:49Extreme, would you say?
06:50Like, anything stunty?
06:52Like, no jumping out, no bungee.
06:55Nothing with the possibility of injury or death at the end of it.
06:59Am I interested in pursuing?
07:01You've never had a temptation.
07:03No, a jet ski.
07:04Okay.
07:05Yeah.
07:06And then you go, I'm out in the middle of this big, huge body of water.
07:10What if I flip?
07:11Oh, what?
07:12Why am I?
07:13Oh, this is longest 15 minutes back to shore.
07:16Honestly, I'm learning so much about you because I would never have known.
07:20Genuinely.
07:21And I have my baby on the back who's five and thinks we're playing.
07:25Oh, this is longest journey back to shore ever.
07:29I like this about you.
07:30I feel like I can relate to you because I'm such a scaredy cat myself.
07:34So I feel like I'm really glad that you've also got that in you.
07:37Well, I did a fire walk when I was nine.
07:39I walked on fire.
07:40Nine?
07:41Yeah, nine.
07:42Yeah.
07:43Yeah.
07:44Yeah.
07:45Yeah.
07:46Yeah.
07:47Yeah.
07:48And I found myself there at nine years old and walked across a bed of burning coals at
07:531500 degrees.
07:54Wow.
07:55And you gear yourself up for a pep talk, which is, yeah.
07:59And I did it.
08:00And I think it really set me up well as a kid.
08:03I think as a kid, obviously, you were quite a lot more fearless than as an adult when you
08:08mistakes are real.
08:09But I think it sort of was a lesson in facing your fears and being curious about them, about
08:16where they come from, what they mean.
08:17And if you can overcome them, then you might find something really exciting on the other
08:22side.
08:23Are you brave enough to do it now?
08:24I would do it now.
08:25I think it's, I also understand the physics of it.
08:27Okay.
08:28If you walk at a certain speed for a certain distance, you won't burn.
08:31So I understand the science.
08:32Okay.
08:33But I think Tom's fearlessness is contagious.
08:35There's no way that I could ever imagine or ever want to even attempt to do a tenth of
08:42an nth of what he does.
08:44And there's no one like him.
08:45I think this film is the accumulation of everything that he's done before.
08:48I mean, I got hooked on skydiving because I was inspired by Tom.
08:52Oh.
08:53So, yeah, there's like a few like spicy jumps that I did.
08:56Do you do solo ones as well now?
08:57Of course.
08:58I've done 233 as of today.
09:00Do you mean like jumps when you felt something might go wrong?
09:03Yeah, it happens.
09:04Oh my God.
09:05But I have to be ready for anything, so.
09:06Oh my God.
09:07No, thank you.
09:08No, it was beautiful to skydive over the pyramids in Egypt.
09:12That was stunning.
09:13Oh, that's, yeah, that would take some topping.
09:15And at some point I was in Florida.
09:17I jumped there.
09:18And while I was under canopy, there was something that happened in the sky.
09:24It looked like a portal.
09:26So I don't remember how it's called, but it's a phenomenon.
09:31Phenomenon.
09:32Phenomenon.
09:33Sorry.
09:34Yeah.
09:35Phenomenon.
09:36That is like, just like, I don't know, the light is so beautiful.
09:37And with the, I don't, I think it's a reflection of light.
09:39It happens sometimes in the sky or in the snow.
09:41Oh, I've heard about that.
09:42Yeah.
09:43How is it called?
09:44It just felt like a magical portal.
09:46I was like, I'm going to enter a new, a different world.
09:51Okay.
09:52That's very cool.
09:53Yeah.
09:54It's like a, it's like a halo or an umbral or something like that.
09:56Yeah.
09:57Oh, that's so shiny.
09:58It was like different colors too.
09:59I was like, am I dead?
10:02Did my shoe done?
10:03Thank God.
10:05So I've done certain things like bungee jumping, skydiving and racing cars, but it-
10:10You've got your pilot.
10:11Your pilot license.
10:12Of course.
10:13But it's, it's almost like what, if we were talking about anybody else, like, you know,
10:17if we remove Tom Cruise from the equation, I would say these things, you know, be like,
10:20oh, wow, that's so cool.
10:22But following up from the guy saying, oh, you got your pilot's license.
10:25Well, I'm hanging outside of the freaking plane.
10:28You know what I mean?
10:29Oh, you're jumping out of your bunch, uh, parachuting.
10:32Oh, I was about to spoil the movie.
10:35I was about to-
10:36Has it been really hard keeping like this whole thing a secret?
10:40Because I know-
10:41No, because we didn't see it till a week ago in Japan.
10:43Yeah, yeah.
10:44We saw it for the first time with audiences when it premiered there.
10:46So we didn't, we, I mean, I don't know whether that was strategic because they don't trust us.
10:50Yeah, I think so.
10:51More because the film hadn't been ready until like the day before.
10:53Right, right, right.
10:54So, I mean, that, that suits us quite well.
10:56I'm a big winter sports fan and I love snowboarding and-
10:59He's really good at it too.
11:00I, I, I, I, I once hit, I think 95 K, KPH on my snowboard.
11:06Wait, do you remember when you, you went to do, um, sand dunes?
11:09Oh yeah, yeah.
11:10When we were shooting in Abu Dhabi.
11:12And he went to do that.
11:13It was so cool.
11:14I went dune boarding, you know, like sand boarding.
11:16That was quite fun.
11:17Okay.
11:18So you both got a little bit of, well, you've got major adrenaline junkie.
11:21And she's about riding motorbikes and horses and all sorts.
11:23Yeah.
11:24Okay.
11:25So you're the next Tom Cruise.
11:26I mean, I, I take it as a compliment.
11:28We're going to have the POM, uh, led action movie.
11:31POM Cruise.
11:32POM, POM Cruise.
11:34Sure, we'll go with that.
11:36Uh, so good to see you both.
11:38You too.
11:39And yeah, good luck with the film and the rest of the tour and everything.
11:42Just enjoy it.
