Tobin is upset with comments made by offensive line coach Butch Barry about Liam Eichenberg being the 'glue' of the Miami Dolphins offensive line. Would Leroy run behind Eichenberg's blocking if he was still playing?
Transcript
00:00Dolphins.
00:01They got mini camps going on right now.
00:03Can I just tell you something?
00:04That's enough.
00:05What are you doing?
00:06I hit the wrong button.
00:08This guy is,
00:09you have been locked on that phone for no less than an hour and 20
00:14minutes.
00:14That's not true.
00:15Yes,
00:15it's true.
00:15It's pretty true.
00:16It's not true.
00:17It's true.
00:17Stop covering the mic.
00:18I could.
00:19That's not true.
00:19Yeah.
00:19Okay.
00:20It is true.
00:20Isn't that true?
00:21You can review the tape.
00:23You've been locked.
00:24You've been locked in ever since he was,
00:26you've been thinking about Paella,
00:27not the,
00:27not the program.
00:28No,
00:28you did.
00:28That's not true.
00:29I think so.
00:30I think so.
00:31Um,
00:32can I tell you something that drove me nuts?
00:36I'm all for defending your guys,
00:38right?
00:38I'm all for defending your guys.
00:39What do you mean?
00:40You guys just as a coach,
00:42a player,
00:43your friends,
00:44whatever.
00:44I'm all for defending your guys,
00:45but I will not sit here and be blatantly lied to by who Dolphins,
00:52offensive line coach,
00:53butch Barry.
00:54Ooh,
00:54what do you say?
00:55Oh,
00:55wait,
00:55wait,
00:55wait,
00:56wait,
00:56wait,
00:56let me guess.
00:58Let me say something.
00:59Vlad.
01:01Go ahead.
01:03I'm going to just say two words.
01:07Liam Eikenberg.
01:08That's right.
01:11You made up,
01:12you made up for,
01:13you made up for your one hour.
01:14We don't even know the offensive linemen,
01:22right?
01:22Oh,
01:22that's right.
01:22But I know that was good.
01:24That was good.
01:24I know for a fact that if Tobin has a problem with,
01:29with somebody said about the offensive line,
01:32then Liam Eikenberg was mentioned.
01:36Go ahead.
01:37he was asked about bringing him back by reporters.
01:40And he said,
01:41quote,
01:42he's the glue in the room.
01:44Does an unbelievable job with the whole room,
01:47doing an unbelievable job with younger players.
01:49He's a leader by nature in terms of how to do the standard of work.
01:54He can play a lot of different positions,
01:55has multiplicity.
01:57And I think that's very important.
02:02You want to know something,
02:03dude?
02:03I told you this though,
02:05but butch then do me a favor,
02:06dude,
02:07make him a coach.
02:09Then if I need glue and standard in the room,
02:14make him a coach.
02:15Cause the fact that I'm a snap away from you guys,
02:18even contemplating putting him back out on the field is malpractice.
02:24I thought we'd be over this already.
02:26Did you know?
02:28I told you,
02:28wait,
02:29I told you why he was going to be back on the team.
02:32And why is that?
02:33I thought somebody,
02:34why is that?
02:35I don't know.
02:36You know why?
02:36Because they're stupid.
02:38No,
02:39because here's how football teams work.
02:42Okay.
02:44If I have one guy that I can play in multiple positions in actuality,
02:51I have three guys.
02:53Okay.
02:53Now he may not be a starter,
02:56but he's not.
03:00If you need to play him at a number of different positions here and there,
03:06everybody has one of those guys.
03:10And so we decide to have the worst guy.
03:13He stinks.
03:14They're rare.
03:15Rare.
03:16Yes.
03:17How can having somebody,
03:18you want to know why they're rare?
03:19Cause you'd never have somebody this bad on the team.
03:22I'm telling you.
03:23What is he good at office parties?
03:25Like I want to know,
03:26does he always remember during the birthday cake?
03:28I'm telling you that every team has the one or two guys that play multiple positions on the offensive line.
03:35The only reason he plays multiple positions on the offensive line is because he was never good at one of them.
03:42I didn't say all that.
03:44No,
03:44I'm just saying that's why that's why they view him as an asset.
03:48We're trying to convert this year.
03:51He's done center.
03:52He's done left.
03:53I mean,
03:53put it this way.
03:55Bob Sapp.
03:57They had him on offense.
03:59Then they move him to defense.
04:01Then they move him to China.
04:03Japan.
04:04Japan.
04:05Yeah.
04:06Where he became a legend.
04:07Where's the legend.
04:08He's a legend.
04:09I got to reach back out to him.
04:10He said he would come on one time.
04:11Yeah.
04:12Yeah.
04:12He was doing a fight.
04:13And then I was doing the fight.
04:14I forgot about it,
04:15but I want to get him on.
04:17Yeah.
04:18I'm going to ask him.
04:19We got to ask him about the spiders.
04:21Oh yeah.
04:22Oh yeah.
04:23We had a,
04:24they played a prank on him.
04:26So he played a prank on somebody.
04:30So our offense,
04:31our center was probably like 200.
04:34And 65,
04:36270 pounds.
04:38And Bob Sapp was massive and had the muscles on top of muscles.
04:43Ridiculous.
04:44A specimen.
04:45So one time,
04:46Jeff Christie came out of the shower.
04:48And Bob Sapp went at him like he was mad as hell.
04:52What?
04:53And he goes,
04:54and so Jeff's yelling,
04:56hold on,
04:56hold on.
04:57If we're going to fight,
04:57let me put some drawers on.
04:59And we just start laughing at the locker room.
05:03Cause he went,
05:04chased him around.
05:05And he was like,
05:05he thought he was serious.
05:07This is a,
05:08for our,
05:09our viewers out here.
05:10This is Bob Sapp.
05:11Yes.
05:12Like just,
05:13just a terrifying.
05:14And he was also in,
05:16what's the,
05:17uh,
05:17Electra.
05:18He was in that movie.
05:20You're going to eat that cool.
05:21But the movie,
05:24he was in the movie lecture with,
05:26um,
05:26Jennifer,
05:27Jennifer Garner.
05:27I never,
05:28you said he looks like a lecture.
05:30No,
05:30I said he was in a lecture.
05:32So guess why he didn't make it with the Vikings.
05:37Why is that?
05:40Not aggressive enough.
05:42Well,
05:42they did say a lot.
05:43Like you had to get him like,
05:46you had to get him mad to go out and play regular football.
05:50And it just became like,
05:51they didn't know where to put them on offensive line or deep.
05:54Who in the hell is he?
05:56It's like jelly roll.
05:57Look at,
05:59you can't even say that anymore.
06:00He needs to go to Dr.
06:02Pimple Popper.
06:03Get rid of that growth up underneath his arm.
06:07Yeah.
06:08I only fight Bob Sapp when I need a frame.
06:11But you know,
06:12he fought,
06:13he fought,
06:14um,
06:17seven guys on one pay-per-view.
06:19Yeah.
06:19Yeah.
06:20A lot of people don't think it would hold me up.
06:22You think?
06:26Legend though.
06:27Still a legend.
06:28Beloved in Japan.
06:29Yep.
06:30He was a,
06:31he was a cool dude.
06:32Just,
06:33you had to get him fired up to go out and play regular football.
06:38Respectfully.
06:39I don't think that,
06:39uh,
06:40Liam Eikenberg is beating seven guys on the pay-per-view one night.
06:43We're just trying to get him to beat the guy across from me.
06:46Yeah.
06:46Which he doesn't.
06:47I'm telling you.
06:48I told him.
06:49Just send him.
06:50Wait,
06:50wait,
06:50wait.
06:50Send him to the Yotes,
06:52dude.
06:52After the season was over with,
06:54what did I tell you?
06:55Just send him to the Yotes,
06:56dude.
06:56You don't understand how these guys are important in the league.
07:01And I get it.
07:03Like the dolphins basically were like,
07:05you know,
07:05they thought,
07:06Oh,
07:06someone's going to pay him.
07:07Right.
07:07Cause everybody's going to pay offensive.
07:08No,
07:09they're not paying them a lot of money.
07:10Now the dolphins are like,
07:11cause Hey guys,
07:13they're not paying them a lot of money.
07:15I know he's making,
07:16he's making,
07:17I know he's on the cheap skis.
07:18I get it.
07:18So a guy that can play multiple positions on the cheap ski.
07:22You ever,
07:22you gotta have,
07:23you gotta have some guys like that on your team.
07:25You can't go pay big money for every position.
07:27Play the undrafted kid.
07:29Uh,
07:29Andrew Meyer from last year.
07:30Nobody's saying he's going to be a starter.
07:33I know.
07:33I don't,
07:34but I'm saying he don't have him.
07:35He don't even have it as an option.
07:37Don't even,
07:38if,
07:38if,
07:39if three offensive linemen getting hurt.
07:41Okay.
07:42But if somebody night does get hurt or if James Daniels doesn't come back from his,
07:45Achilles,
07:46right?
07:47I don't even want it being on the menu.
07:51Take it off the menu.
07:53Do you understand?
07:55And I told you this when the season ended,
07:58Liam Eikenberg will probably be back because every team has one or two guys that play multiple positions.
08:04And although they don't start,
08:06they're important to the team because you can move them around.
08:10Remember Raniel Pinto?
08:12Marlins reliever.
08:13Raniel Pinto.
08:14Do you remember him?
08:15Here we go.
08:16People would say the same thing about Raniel Pinto.
08:19And they would say a valuable is,
08:22is having a lefty out of the bullpen.
08:25It's not necessarily your closer,
08:27but you can go to him in a pinch and you'll want to know what he did every single time.
08:31Leroy meatballs,
08:33meatballs on top of meatballs.
08:35And you want to know when the meatball stopped,
08:37when they stopped having Raniel Pinto in the bullpen.
08:40My point being is,
08:42what year is this for Liam Eikenberg?
08:45Five?
08:45Five.
08:47You are who you are.
08:49Arr, matey.
08:50And get him the hell off the Dolphins.
08:54I'm telling you.
08:56The reason why he is here.
08:58There's got to be some undrafted guys.
09:00No, there's not.
09:01From North Dakota.
09:01There's not a whole bunch of guys that can play.
09:03There has to be.
09:04There's not.
09:04That's better than this.
09:05Listen,
09:06there's not a lot of guys that are in the NFL that play multiple positions on the offensive line.
09:14You may have one guy per team.
09:18That's how rare.
09:19Like,
09:20so it's like a utility lineman.
09:22Like a utility infielder.
09:25Right?
09:25You don't want him to be an everyday starter.
09:28But you use him in a pinch.
09:30That's what Liam Eikenberg is.
09:32No,
09:32I don't want him in a pinch.
09:34I don't want him in a pinch.
09:36Ever.
09:37No pinch.
09:40I don't want it as an option.
09:42No thanks.
09:45Dude.
09:46No.
09:47No.
09:48That's,
09:48that's,
09:49what you're saying right now is exactly what's going to put them in the same trap.
09:53Somebody said he's a Swiss Army butter knife.
09:55Give that guy a point.
09:58It's well said.
10:00There's no sharpness to those scissors,
10:02knife,
10:03or corkscrew.
10:03I,
10:04I told you after the season,
10:07why he would be here.
10:09Silly.
10:10It's silly.
10:11Okay.
10:11It's silly.
10:12Okay.
10:13We're wasting our time.
10:14No,
10:14you're not.
10:15We're wasting our time.
10:15You gotta have even have it there.
10:17You gotta have cheap talent on your team.
10:19He's not talent.
10:21He's not talent.
10:22He's bereft of talent.
10:23He falls on his face.
10:26Hold up.
10:26Hold up.
10:27Hold up.
10:28Hold up.
10:28What?
10:29You know what the hell.
10:31What?
10:32Bereft?
10:32Is that how you use it?
10:34Minus one.
10:35You sure?
10:36I think it is.
10:36I don't like the word out sounds.
10:37Minus one.
10:37I look it up,
10:40but I can't spell it.
10:42Wait,
10:42wait.
10:42What's the word?
10:43Bereft of talent?
10:46Oh,
10:46God.
10:47Yeah.
10:48Bereft of talent means lacking or devoid of talent.
10:51He's right.
10:53Where'd you pull that one out of?
10:54I don't know.
10:57That's fair luck.
11:00I know words.
11:02They mean words.
11:03It's the same guy who couldn't say enjoy or spell it or spell it.
11:10Hey,
11:10Leroy,
11:11as a running back,
11:11would you run behind Liam Eikenberg?
11:14Be for real.
11:15Be for real.
11:16It's a great question.
11:16Wait,
11:17wait.
11:17Take Michigan.
11:17How would you feel about it?
11:18Where's Liam from?
11:19What's home?
11:20Notre Dame.
11:20Notre Dame.
11:21Oh,
11:21yeah,
11:21he's definitely not running behind him.
11:23How can I put this?
11:26You say no.
11:27We had some struggles on the offensive line before.
11:31You were on a three-win team.
11:32There had to be a sieve on that line.
11:34Huh.
11:34I was young.
11:35I didn't know him.
11:35Ha!
11:38They were old,
11:40old.
11:41I'm like,
11:42wow.
11:42That was the first,
11:43the only team I ever played on.
11:45We had three or four offensive linemen that were 34.
11:51How you think that went?
11:52Not great.
11:53Yeah.
11:54Not great.
11:55Was that when Reggie was praying?
11:58No,
11:58that was in Minnesota,
11:59where we had a good offensive line.
12:02And he picked Big K up.
12:03Oh,
12:04man.
12:05R.I.P.
12:05Big K.
12:06Right?
12:07He picked Big K up,
12:09who was like 6'4",
12:103'50",
12:11and tossed him aside like a candy wrapper.
12:15Big K did not have it his way.
12:16And he got back to the,
12:17he got back to the huddle,
12:19and all the offensive line,
12:20you see what you did?
12:22They blamed me.
12:25I said,
12:26you got to use your,
12:27you hit your line with sass.
12:32No.
12:32What am I supposed to say?
12:34It's not my,
12:35this is not my fault you got tossed.
12:37It was,
12:38dude,
12:39there's a picture in,
12:40this is how incredible it was.
12:42There is a picture in Minnesota's building
12:46of Big K this high off the ground,
12:49getting arm barred by,
12:51it was the most,
12:52we kept running it back on film.
12:54Just running it back.
12:55Just running it back.
12:56Just running it.
12:57And every time they ran it back,
12:58another offensive lineman would stare at me.
13:00Told you not to cut Reggie.
13:02Oh my God.
13:03Amazing.
13:04Amazing.
13:04Amazing.
13:04Amazing.
13:04Amazing.
13:05Amazing.
13:05Amazing.
13:06Amazing.
13:06Amazing.
13:06Amazing.
13:06Amazing.
13:06Amazing.
13:06Amazing.
13:06Amazing.
13:06Amazing.
13:06Amazing.
13:06Amazing.
