31:44The interest alone on the federal government's debt works out to about $600 a year
31:49for every man, woman, and child in the United States every year.
31:53And it's rising.
31:55It is rising faster than most people know because Washington's bookkeeping
31:58makes the growth of the debt look smaller than it is.
32:01It does this by counting the huge surplus in the Social Security Fund
32:05as available cash, which it is not.
32:08Now Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan of New York
32:12proposes to stop this fiction writing, to cut Social Security taxes,
32:16eliminate the huge surplus, and show the American people the true size of the debt.
32:22Not everyone is in favor.
